Excellent restaurant within the Strand Palace Hotel. We tested all the flavor profiles in this restaurant and tried the bruschetta, sheperd's pie and Thai chicken curry. They were all different in their flavors and excellent in their presentations. Loved the service and ambience as well. Prices were ok for central London standards.

The best cocktails / dinner in London. Staff are so so friendly. My mum asked for a French martini which wasn’t on the menu. Not an issue to make , I ordered a margharita and again bar man came to check exactly how I liked it. Dinner was exquisite so so delicious and really well priced. Restaurant beautiful we can’t wait to come back in November.

We went here again because it was still open after the theatres had closed. The food is awful. I had a burger and it was very cheap and very poor quality. I had eaten here once before and it was dreadful. Having decided to give it another go, I wish I hadn't bothered. You can access Joe Allen from inside this hotel. Go there. The service and the quality of the food is far superior.

I go here regularly with friends if you want a quiet environment to have a good get together - especially pre-theatre, as it is in the Strand . Good freshly cooked and presented reasonably priced snacks and plates or mains, and good service, where the staff can’t do enough. there may be times when they are busy and you have to wait, so don’t be in a rush…

Terrible place, and terrible service. We ordered two sirloin steaks, both medium rare. One of the peirces was cooked to death, and was sent back. When we got the new food the meat was totally raw and very burnt. The service was super slow, and we were sitting and waiting for 15 minutes before taking the order. Also one of the waiters dropped a piece of fries on the serving table and picked it up with his hands and put it on the plate again. Totally unacceptable. Too bad that a good hotel like Strand Palace has a restaurant of this terrible quality as its main dining option. Will not return here again.

It took them literally 1 hour to serve us our mains (7:15-8:15pm). They tried to apologize by taking off the bill one of our drinks - they chose the water :) We didn’t ask in reality for something in return but it felt like taunting us. Not good at all. I did thank them regardless.

Hotel is excellent. The restaurant staff are for the most part courteous with the exception of those at the breakfast desk. Service was lacking and bordered rude.

Love the jotl as in room. But find haxwells is not efficient for service. As in areas for dining and drinks only not clear for staff......

Honestly, if you’re staying at this hotel it’s absolutely worth tacking breakfast on to your bill. The food is fine, there’s plenty of it, and the service is superb - Yogi in particular is terrific.

I would like to leave a review about the food but I never got it. I waited mine main for a near 2 hours. Some of the party members got both, starters and mains at the same time. So I guess the average of almost one portion per person is fine. When asked for the food we got an answer of five more minutes. Repeatedly. Bad day for kitchen and waiters but won't recommend.

During our stay at the hotel we had dinner two nights in their restaurant. The food is good and the service is super good. In our case we were served by Cynthia and Sai, two super attentive waiters, thank you very much for your service!!!

The best restaurant I have ever been to, from the food to the excellent service to the atmosphere. I had beetroot and goats cheese salad for starters which was lovely and my partner had chicken liver pate which was tasty and nicely presented. I had seabass for my main which was lovely and tasty and large portion, my partner had corn feed chicken and garlic mash and baby carrots, which he said was lovely and the chicken so supple, also a large portion, he couldn't eat it all. We both had a side of garden vegetables, which were cooked perfectly. For dessert we both had sticky toffee pudding which was so filling and really tasty. We both had a glass of house red. The service was excellent and the waiter was so attentive and he never even had to write the order down, he remembered it and I gave him the whole 3 courses at once. His name was Armur I think and he was so polite and happy and helpful a credit to Haxells. The atmosphere is lovely low lighting just right for an evening meal. Quite busy for a week day which was good. We had told the waiter it was our Anniversary so he brought us a cake with Happy Anniversary on it for us after our dessert which was lovely and a really nice surprise to go to all that trouble for us. So would definitely recommend it to anyone and would definitely go again.

I thought I'd contact Haxells direct before posting this awful review but as they didn't have the courtesy to respond, here goes... I'd booked a table in the bar for my birthday drinks. The man at the entrance of the restaurant showed us where we could sit and we got a nice comfortable seating area. I went to the bar and there was nobody there so I asked the same man if I could order a bottle of champagne and three glasses. He was quick enough to take my money £84.88 (which included service!!) but after 15 minutes the drinks had not appeared. Not a good start to the birthday celebrations. Finally, I noticed Mimi and called her over to ask where our drinks were. She was very polite but asked what we'd ordered. After another 5 minutes, she appeared and politely delivered the champagne in the ice-bucket and three warm glasses. Finally, we could celebrate my birthday but probably won't be returning. Thanks.

Such a shame. Just not enough staff. And mostly inadequate service. The female manager was working incredibly hard, but the kitchen was disorganised and the other waiters were on slow motion. Everything delayed. Drinks and food missing. Cutlery missing etc etc. needs sorting, as food great!

This is my second time staying at Strandpalace. Haxells, you are wonderful. The sweetest employees in the world may be here. I came to the Hotel for the New Year and unfortunately got sick. They helped me without expecting anything. They made herbal tea and did their best to make me feel better. They are amazing. I'm going back to my country, but I'm here every time I come to London. Thank you so much for everything..Best regards. To all the wonderful staff :)

Great food, drinks, and service.

Nice fancy restaurant. Food was tasty. The customer service could be better.

Open table had got our details wrong so we had to wait a while to be seated. We were there for the pre theatre menu at 5.45pm. Service was very slow and it was almost 6.30 by the time anything arrived at our table. The drinks came after the starter and were wrong. The starters were nice, we had one each of the three on offer and all were tasty. The mains were very disappointing. The burger was v simple. A dry subway shaped bun with a round patty and a small bit of salad. Very dry. Terribly presented and extremely poor value for money. The chicken was OK, garlic mash was lacking garlic and the seasonal veg on the side was mostly Carrots which already came with the dish, a few mushy watery sprouts and a couple of fine beans. Lovely surroundings sorely let down by very underwhelming food. Creme brulee dessert had no brulee!

A nicely presented restaurant with mostly good service. Food is average or just above average, I would say with smallish portions.

Dreadful service, waited ages for my order to be taken, restaurant wasn’t that busy, Caesar salad to start, had asked for chicken with it, took another age to replace it, very sour dressing too.I spotted a female in grey suit , complained about poor service and being ignored, my next course was forgotten , I asked the guy who’d taken my original order, said seven minutes, ( ordered steak) steak was ok, overpriced tho and was served with tired rocket and three vine tomatoes, not even chargrilled.Had to rush it , as twenty minutes to curtain up in Savoy theatre. Manager did apologise and gave me a free glass of wine , just wanted to pay and get out , didn’t have time to take off “service “ charge.At prime lunch time 1.00pm when I arrived, emphasise with staff seemed to be serving ended stands of afternoon tea. Won’t be returning.

My wife and myself had a most enjoyable lunch yesterday with her sister and daughter (visiting from California) at Haxells Restaurant in the Strand Palace Hotel (where our family members were staying). We were given a lovely quiet table and had a delightful long lunch. Both the food (particularly liked my calamari, corned chicken & lemon tart with vanilla ice cream) and service were excellent. All in all, a most enjoyable experience which I should gladly repeat.

Our waiter spent over 10 minutes at the table directly in front of us helping them sign up to make an account to leave them a review. He was assisting an older couple. They’re desperate to fix the poor reviews they’ve received, but as a result, they received an additional negative review. The waiter even looked at us three times and chose to ignore us as he asked this couple for the password they’d like to use on their account. Very desperate and indicative of what you’ll expect if you dine in here.

Absolutely brilliant little restaurant located at the Strand Palace... Good selection on the Theatre menu as well as a la carte Swift service Nicoleta helped us to our table and was brilliant Nihar was on another level - nothing too much and ensured everything was spot on. Stopped in for a late lunch before heading out to sightsee. As requested, we informed the server that one of our party had a tree nut allergy. After waiting for about 20 minutes, the manager came out and told us they “could not accommodate the nut allergy”. They refused to serve us anything on the menu because there were nuts in the kitchen. London was the last stop on our trip through the UK, but the first time we’ve ever been refused service for having an allergy. Do better Haxells.

Dinner was lovely friendly staff

I was impressed with the quality of the food at this restaurant - I ordered sea bass and it was very tasty. For a hotel restaurant, especially in central London, it is definitely better than most.

My husband and I were only checked on once at the very beginning of the service. When we were ready to leave it took over 20 minutes to get someone to take payment even though there was only three other tables. The desserts were extremely oversweetened . So sweet in fact that I could not eat them. Sandwiches were decent though not great. The tea however was very good and the scones were perfect. They were light and airy but still rich and full of flavor.

Haxells Restaurant & Bar is a hotel restaurant located in Strand Palace. The atmosphere is upscale and the menu is easy to navigate. For theatergoers, there is a menu for £30. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and professional.

The salad is beautifully presented. A bit too oily for me, strong enough to taste the olive flavor— at least the oil seems good. There’s no balsamic taste in it, however. Probably someone in the kitchen forgot it. I asked for extra vinegar on the side and it’s better. (Hope people ordering hot dishes won’t have problems as it will be more difficult to fix.) On the bright side, the has more greens than I expected XD The spinach is super fresh and the avocado is not raw. The espresso is decent for a hotel. Overall a pretty welcoming cafe/bar in the hotel lobby. Ample lighting and power sockets for me to read a book while my friend recharges by Power Nap.

Pre theatre meal. We arrived a bit late so chose something quick to prepare as we had the theatre at 7.30. We chose the club sandwiches and they were delicious and very generous. Loved the sour dough bread. I had smoked salmon and avocado, with salad. My husband had the chicken and bacon with fries. Good value and very filling. Staff were very attentive and professional.

Excellent service seated very quickly and dinner for wonderful, all staff very pleasant and polite, me and my mum enjoyed, with thanks to my daughter for our birthday. Lovely and well done.

Went here for afternoon tea today and it was excellent. Scones were delicious, as was everything else. We considered this tea “affordable” because it was 45 pounds per person as opposed to 70 at other places. We were dressed in jeans/tshirts for a day of sightseeing, so we worried about feeling out of place and underdressed, but it was fine. When looking at the tea menu, we thought you picked one savory and one sweet, but each person gets all 4 savories listed and all 4 sweets, in addition to a scone and an individual pot of tea (2-3 cups). We were completely satisfied. Ver pleasant staff as well.

This restaurant is part of the Strand Palace. It's a very nice space to spend some time. Six of us met for dinner some days prior to the Coronation. Generally the food was poor, ranging from overcooked fish to just generally strange combination of tastes. My partner was taken ill with a gastric issue that night and we had spend day travelling so no other food. I keep trying not to eat in hotels if possible but this was an easy option and looked fine???

Service was great, very attentive, food was lovely, we went on a Groupon Voucher and although the menu options were limited what was on offer we as very nice and it didn’t spoil the experience. Would go again

A fantastic restaurant within the Strand Palace Hotel. The menu on offer is varied and good value for central London prime sport. The venue is spacious and airy yet provides great seating. The food itself was excellent. We had both breakfast and lunch in this restaurant during a recent overnight stay.

With a group of former workmates I visited this restaurant after a visit to the National Gallery. I wasn't optimistic: hotel restaurants generally aren't great. But this was OK. Better than OK really. We wanted a place that would let us have a leisurely chat and this certainly did. A nice relaxed atmosphere. Food was good - I had the smoked salmon club sandwich with chips and it was almost too much. Price was reasonable for a west end venue and service was friendly.

I have had three of their delicious desserts: lemon tart (beautifully presented), apple tarts (nice warm, sugary apple slices with ice cream), and cream brûlée (glazed with warm and fabulously browned sugar crust). P.S. I wish they served light breakfast sets like “croissants and coffee”. I think they only have heavy breakfast “set” (~$16 USD for a traditional english breakfast, plus croissant and plus coffee/tea)

Excellent in every respect. The staff are kind and smiling and welcoming, and we were served quickly. I had sea bass with fennel, which was really delicious and fresh. It's a really spacious, comfortable space, and I will definitely eat here again.

The afternoon tea seated area is tucked away, separate from all other hotel foyer activities. Service was great and the food was of good quality. I find this with a lot of places, I wish they did Assam tea. This is my preference over English Breakfast tea.

I had booked this restaurant for my birthday, as it is close to the theatre and the menu looked decent. We were a party of 9, and there were options suitable for everyone. The table was booked for 5pm, but wasn’t ready for us until 5.15pm. We sat down and ordered drinks and food, all seemed ok. The starters came and they were quite underwhelming. The Caesar salad that my brother ordered, did not come with any anchovies. They took his dish away and brought it back with 2 fried, rock solid anchovies. My brother was not impressed. My friends chicken satay arrived, and the chicken was grey. That is just 2 disappointing starter dishes. Then, a few more drinks were ordered. The waitress came, and put down the pint of beer first. As she did so, she must have lost her balance and the prosecco that was on her tray went all over my brother. His gilet and sweatshirt were soaked, as were his jeans. There was no apology and the waitress was told to leave. It took a while before anyone came to clear up. Again, bare in mind, no apology. Finally things were cleared up. But no one thought to take away our empty starter dishes. Some sort of manager (not particularly professional and appeared to have been drinking) came over. We asked for somewhere to dry my brothers clothes off, but we were told there wasn’t anywhere we could do this. So he was expected to sit there soaked all evening with no apology. Then a pint of beer was just plonked beside him, with no explanation. We asked again for my brothers clothes to be dried, because there was no way, in a hotel, that there was not a dry cleaning or drying facility. We managed to get his stuff dried. The mains came. We ordered more drinks. The mains were all extremely disappointing. It was all relatively simple food that was ordered. The burgers were all cold. The veggie burger was cold but burnt. The anchovies on the Caesar salad were fried and rock hard again. No drinks arrived. Eventually, after the most awful service and food, we left without paying. We explained to the manager and to security that we would not be paying due to this horrendous experience. I would not recommend this place, nor will I be visiting ever again. If I could give this restaurant a lower rating, then I would. I didn't get any pictures of the food, as there was nothing worth taking pictures of.

Took my grandson for the festive afternoon tea and was quite disappointed. For the cost of this you expected a little bit more care. Children's goody bag not as described, yes there was a toy but everything else was missing. The food arrived quite promptly but we had no choice of brown or white for the sandwiches. They didn't give you anything to eat your prawn cocktail with. Then started the wait for the tea. Grandsons hot chocolate arrived promptly but after 10 mins I had to go and ask for my tea. After 20 mins I then had to go and ask for my grandsons tea. They then brought out the wrong tea for him and after bringing out the wrong one yet again second time round we gave up and just took it. Later I had to chase somebody down in order to order more tea, nobody checked to see if it was required or even asked if the food was OK. I also had to go and find some one to pay the bill. The place wasn't busy yet the waiting staff just hung around by the door without actually checking to see if you wanted anything. Twice they brought somebody else's order to our table. On top of that they had the cheek to add a service charge to the bill of an extra £7!!!! Nowhere did it say that I had to pay this charge and I find it astonishing that this was added seen as the service was virtually invisible. I saved up for months to take my grandson here and it was a huge disappointment. They have replied to my e mail and have sorted this out though... the staff need some re training...

Had afternoon tea in the Haxells, Dec 2022. Food was awful but staff and decor were great. Saddest part is that they had run out of children's toys for the Childers afternoon tea. The sandwich’s were horrible, Sainsbury’s does better. The cakes were dreadful!! The Christmas cake was rock solid. Scones were fine. The “tea” was teabags served in a teapot. I would not go again nor recommend the tea. The staff were lovely though

Arrived and was promptly greeted and seated. We did the festive afternoon tea, which was poor quality, reasons being the sandwiches were dry and the scones were very hard, the other cakes were okay. It was not value for money as the adults menu £39 and children's menu £19, vary only by a prawn cocktail and an orange tart, the price difference is extortionate. It wasn't very busy on Sunday 4th but it was particularly hard to get the attention of staff to request more tea. There was no offer to replenish any sandwiches or desserts unlike at The dilly or Chesterfield who offer this. Upon leaving a tall, male, Asian server questioned me on whether I had paid. I am curious if this happens to everyone or just people of a particular shade, black people? Yes some of us are successful and can afford afternoon tea at a mediocre establishment. I had settled the bill with his colleague previously and was mortified. I would not return and the children were not impressed either.

I went for a festive afternoon tea. First the atmosphere could be more festive as whole London Is in sparking lights but in Haxells it is not. The afternoon tea wasn't served in the three shaped plate but in a normal one as they explained it was for one person. So nothing festive in it. The room for the afternoon tea was a little but old. Food was okay, squid was chewy and not crispy. Chicken skin was also soggy but service after food being finished was long. Also finished my drink and no one came to ask for a second drink. The food is generally OK. Try order pan cooked food and avoid grills (lamb chop, steak, burger patty, you name it), because the surface of the meat is constantly burnt and charred. You can taste a strong bitter taste, unless you like that.

We had lunch and dinner at Hazels. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The food was faultless. the salad I had for lunch was just perfect.

I ate at Haxells for dinner as I am staying at the hotel it is connected to and received a voucher. I must say the food was amazing. The roasted butternut squash blew me away. As a vegetarian it is sometimes difficult to find quality meals that do not contain meat and this was just amazing. The service was also very good

Good restaurant inside a historic hotel. Our choices were varied and we were very happy with dinner overall. Food looks and tastes good. There is also a bar in the restaurant as well as separate fun bar and even American diner on the other side of hotel.

A wonderful place to relax and enjoy a fabulous meal. Friendly staff which were most accommodating especially to single guests. My steak dinner was perfectly cooked and most delicious. It is a restaurant and fortunately not a train station. So relax and enjoy. Great air conditioning on those super hot days in July 2022.

Greet and meet slow at the door causing queues. Breakfast choices good however the hot breakfast buffet items were generally cold despite being in chafing dishes. They had only one chef dishing up so incredibly slow service causing queues for food.

We spent 3 nights at the hotel, booked 2 rooms and got the vouchers for being green and not needing daily cleaning. When we went to Haxells to use the vouchers at our last night, we were told that only 3 vouchers out of four can be used at one payment, was very disappointing. The manager took her time (good half an hour) to calculate the payment to include the fourth voucher in so that the lemonade (not a glass of wine was included) while she must have known they have no rooms for four, so why not offering to half the bill btw rooms. Just a very stupid argument over a voucher that we were not asking for in the first place but were offered by be the hotel. The 3 pounds were obviously more important than 4 happy customers... Very sad.

Starters came out quite quickly and were very tasty. Our mains were also very nice, but took over an hour to arrive. A server offered us a complimentary drink, but in my opinion, that is not good enough to appease an hours wait for food. There were a number of servers attending to our table , which I don’t think enhances the customer’s experience of dining here.

Friendly efficient staff and lovely food. Can recommend the seafood linguine. Nice pleasant and very clean surroundings.

Dismal breakfast, not in the same class as Durham Marriott. The Strand Palace offered a "Continental breakfast" with one sort of ham and no cheese; Marriott offered 4 different meets and four cheeses and much else. The Haxells (ie Strand Palace) cooked breakfast offered salty bacon, tired fried eggs and lumpy scrambled eggs. The coffee flasks pour badly. Go to Durham instead!...
