Hawksmoor Wood Wharf in Tower Hamlets

First time visitor to Hawksmoor despite all the hype around it for years! I was really impressed by the quality of the steaks and the sides which perfectly accompanied the main courses. The atmosphere was relaxed but felt classy and it was a great vibe on a Monday early evening.

Perfect, attentive and personal service as ever here. Food is amazing and we always leave with a smile. This is now my fave Hawksmoor and look forward to returning soon.

Experience of welcome by all staff was appreciated as all were very attentive. My fillet was very nice. My friend had the porterhouse and it was underwhelming, overpriced for the quality. It was my birthday so was kindly given a dessert which was very kind. Would not return.

A modern twist on fine dining in the business district of East London. My reason for writing this review is to praise the branch for its facilities, its level access into the restaurant itself with cast space to sit and dine. I would avoid the lunch time rush if you want to get a table but even then the staff are excellent at accommodating the needs of wheelchair users in this situation. The restaurant also has a manned cloakroom where you are able to be free of any bags/luggage that may hinder your dining experience! A huge shoutout to our wonderful waitress Rachel and her colleagues for making us feel welcome and for showing that nothing is ever too much for them. A great example is when I was unable to crack the lobster using the provided utensils due to the weakness in my hands and we asked whether the chef would kindly be able to do this for us and without question was done and sent back to our table very quickly! The food was stunning not only by presentation but by taste too! We ordered a Half Native Lobster, Beef Dripping Fries, Creamy Spinach, Hawksmoor Smoked Salmon, Potted Beef and Bacon and Sticky Toffee Sundaes🍴An absolutely delicious meal and definitely worth the price too! I would highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for an instagrammable but also a true British culinary experience🍽️

We had an excellent lunch today. Food was amazing, staff were friendly and attentive. Can highly recommend the sharing roast. Everything was cooked perfectly.

Went for a Sunday roast with a small group of friends. Food was fabulous and the restaurant felt quite spacious even though it was busy. We paid for corkage and took our own wine. Shout out to Steph at Hawksmoor who was amazing.

Lovely restaurant. We went there on a Saturday night so the place was quite packed. The food was good, though the steak was dry and too expensive for the portion size. The main thing I did not like: one of the patrons at the other table was vaping in the restaurant and the server I told was afraid to address it. I had to insist for him to address it. Vaping is not legal in restaurants I don’t think I should have had to request for that to be addressed.

Genuinely the most awful experience. Took over an hour for our food to come, and once it did, they forgot about condiments & the steak was still breathing (RAW) despite asking for medium rare. The bland fries were practically inedible and the servers were impossible to get a hold of. Tables so close together that other guests were breathing down my neck as I was forcing myself to drink their extremely overpriced Prosecco. Extremely overrated. Also asked to see the manager but they didn’t bring him out. Instead, they offered us a free glass of cheap wine if we would come back! (Never returning). Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

I’m not one to right reviews but I had a dreadful exprenice. The service was shocking, didn’t get our food served for an hour of waiting with missing sauces and had to send a steak back as it was rare! the chips tasted like they was 5 days old. As we got our bill we complained asked for the manager, they never brang them over and tried to give us a discount instead. I’m absolutely appalled by this place and I will never ever be returning.

Avoid at all costs. Overpriced. Terrible service. Fries 3 days old. Stickey floors. I have eaten better food at a weatherspoons. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Definitely not coming back.

I had high expectations when booking this restaurant for my mum’s birthday, but the experience was beyond disappointing. I spent £358, and it was absolutely NOT worth it. Food: The food was horrible—bland, poorly cooked. The lobster was ridiculously overpriced for the tiny amount of meat it had. Every dish felt like a rip-off. Service: The service was shockingly bad. We waited ages for both starters and mains, they got our order wrong, and they even brought out extra drinks we never ordered (and charged us for them!). Atmosphere: We were seated at the back, and every time someone walked in or out, a cold draft came through, making the whole experience uncomfortable. Birthday Ruined: I was so frustrated that I didn’t even bother having them bring out the cake. The waiter did not even care and was so rude!!! For the amount of money I spent, I expected at least decent food and service, but this was a complete letdown. Avoid this place unless you enjoy wasting money on bad food and slow service. AVOID !!!!!!

Food was okay, priced too high, probably because of the place. Very cozy interior with nice corners etc. Close to Canary Wharf metro station. Highly recommended to make a reservation. Wines very expensive considering the quality. Bottle of water 7£🤯.

Nice restaurant really good service. The steaks are every bit as good as I had heard!!! Well worth a visit. Not a desert person but was given a birthday tiramisu which I ate and enjoyed. Think we spent around £100 each would go again.

What has happened to Hawksmoor - I remember going to the original in Shoreditch, and Air Street and Guildhall were always good, high prices but service and food were always 100%. I have been to canary wharf twice now and wont return. Had a chewy steak the first time. This time it took 2 hours to get a burger and pudding. Burger was cold, chips small. Puddings were ok. It used to be known for high quality with high prices and that was fine - but was totally not worth the money tonight. No idea if its just the Canary Wharf branch is the problem or have the others gone down hill. Such a shame.

I have an allergy to the generic oils, which I stated and took three different waiters to ask me. I tried to choose things it shouldn't be in and kept asking and making sure, but was still in the ingredients or somehow sneaked in I as noticed it the next morning and didn't feel great! Food was very average in taste and presentation, the portion sizes were also very small. For the extortionate pricing and supposedly posh/top dining it was very poor and underwhelming! However the place, location and atmosphere was very good!

My first time at Hawksmoor in Canary Wharf, and I’m already looking forward to returning. The service is highly professional and efficient. I was fortunate to be served by Marius, the restaurant manager, whose deep knowledge of the menu and attention to detail ensured we had everything we needed. Filipe also deserves a mention for his warmth and professionalism, working seamlessly with Marius to provide an excellent experience. Special thanks to the Portuguese bartender, whose name I didn’t catch. The food quality was outstanding – easily some of the best steaks in London. The combination of top-notch service and attention to detail makes this a place I’ll definitely revisit. Highly recommend!

Amazing food as always, very long wait on a Saturday evening for food but not an unpleasant place to spend the time.

We were traveling in London and were recommended this place. Coming from the DLR station, it was quite difficult to find. After searching for a while in the rain, we finally arrived at almost 15:00, only to be turned away because it was closed. Imagine the disappointment! I wish they had updated their website and the directory in Canary Wharf to reflect the correct opening times. It would have saved us a lot of trouble (website says Kitchen closes at 15:30 and the directory in Canary Wharf says open til 23:00).

Overwhelmingly loud, staff seemed overwhelmed. Great cocktails though!

*Sunday Roast* I don't like writing bad reviews, but I feel like people need to know. The restaurant is in a great location, looks really nice inside, staff are friendly, but unfortunately I had a really bad meal. Ordered the Sunday roast with stuffing on the side, and a Guinness. It was a good Guinness, but it all ended up costing 50 pounds and it was honestly a 4/10 meal. Potatoes were dry, and had a really tough exterior, meat was tough, Yorkshire pudding wasn't very good, and the whole meal was just cold. The only thing that was hot was the stuffing, because it was in its own cast iron skillet (a 7.50 add on). The stuffing was really really good to be fair! Shame about the rest of the meal.

Went here last night for a friend's 40th birthday, had the private room upstairs, roughly works out £100 each. Food was amazing, the thought of having beetroot as a started, I was like no, however it was beautiful, everything had flavour. The service was amazing, he was nice and polite, running up and down to male sure we had everything. You can even hook your phone up to the speakers and play your own music 🎶. Defo will be going back and would recommend. I wanted to drive but I am glad I never as others found it tricky to park and ended up parking 10mins away, glad we got a cab.

Being a vegetarian, i didn't find many options here. That said, the restaurant offers an excellent ambience and service for regular and official meetings / lunch / dinner / drinks. I would highly recommend this place. I am a frequent here every time I am in Canary wharf.

I loved it, we liked it, the girl was super nice and friendly, we would come back again. I don't know what the girl's name is, but she was the one who was there on Saturday, January 25th.(Lunch) She is very nice and friendly, I hope they give her a raise.

I went here to specifically try their £19.50 January lunch time offer of a 250g rump steak with choice of side. I'm really disappointed as the waiter had recommended to have the steak cut as butterfly because in his opinion it would be overdone? I didn't really understand this because I went for medium well done and if a steak is thick I don't understand how it would it then get overdone so quickly. The steak was burnt in some parts, and when I looked at the other diners steak theirs looked the same as mine. It was tough chewy and wasn't worth the money at all. The beef dripping chips were nice but the portion size was extremely small. I don't get the hype about Hawksmoor, the atmosphere is nice and restaurant clean but steaks overrated. Some of the staff were also rude and had an attitude when i was passing by them, the waiter also was about to overcharge me by £10 because he forgot that I went for the lunch time offer and also added in a peppercorn sauce I hadn't ordered. I wouldn't recommend this establishment if you care about quality, definitely go elsewhere.

we went for the 19.95 rump + side deal during january. the quality was debatable. asked for medium rare and the steak was over cooked. After reflecting on it with the chef who agreed the steak was overcooked, the server kindly offer a new rump. overall still very good value imo.

We had a lovely lunch celebration meal here. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and our overall experience was wonderful. The restaurant is very modern, well spaced, and stylish. We will definitely be back.

Incredible lunch experience. Louis treated us to some restaurant history and excellent service. The steak was amazing and the sides were top notch. The cherry on top was the sticky toffee pudding at the end. Thanks Hawksmoor and Louis for an awesome memory.

Best steak in the area and one of the best in London in general. We visit once in a few weeks on average - quality of food always top-notch, and service impeccable - very knowledgeable, well-trained and attentive staff.

Had a family meal for 4, with two having the lunchtime special, one burger and one fillet steak. Otherall fine , its just nowhere near as good as othe Hawskmoor in London. Steaks were salty and slightly overdone for medium rare. Gave feedback at the time, which was ignored. Otherwise service was attentive and burger was excellent.

I was looking forward to the meal and evening at Hawksmoor. I ordered lobster, steak fillet with few sides and apple pie. Presentation was average. I thought that food was coming out quickly but the waitress kept forgetting bits for our table which after third time started to be annoying (then she was rewarded with 12.5% service charge🤨). Food tasted good and meat was cooked as I ordered but I have to admit that when I saw the prices on the menu I was expecting to be swept off my feet. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I think that £130 (food only) per person is quite a lot. I’ve been in places in the past where overall experience was much better and I spend that amount for two people. Thankfully I was with great group of people and I had very good evening. But I think I’ll won’t be going back to Hawksmoor anytime soon.

I’d heard so much about this place thought i’d check it out, with my friend her partner along with my partner and I. We had a 8pm reservation, finding the restaurant was ok as we parked in the closest car park to it, and walked directly across the road. The restaurant was completely full (upstairs) and very loud and noisy, which was fine being Saturday night. The first table we were shown to wasn’t ideal, a large circular table centre of the restaurant, We asked to move and were shown to a booth towards the back of the restaurant. The waitress was ok but to be honest she could’ve been better, she just didn’t seem engaged with us. Drinks order taken and about 40 minutes later food order taken. Which is fine whilst chatting away. When the food did arrive it was warm not as hot as i’d expected. But the steak was cooked to my specification as were the rest of the table, bar one who opted for the chicken. Portion sizes were ok although for the price of the mash it could’ve been bigger. But all in all ok. Average night.., quite expensive considering what we had.

2025 update: Steak quality had gone down, still serving ridiculous 200ml cokes, so get 1 star. Probably down to 4th or 5th best steak in the wharf now that Blacklock is open. Good steak! Had the sirloin, cooking was right on in the money and very tasty. Triple cooked chips and new potatoes also nice, although they're just potatoes, bit too large to be new. Buttered greens weren't particularly good. Probably third best in wharf behind Goodman's and Gaucho, although close. Had a seasonal no alcohol cocktail, and it was basically a scoop of clementine gelato in a glass. Nice, but not really a cocktail. Additionally, they serve ridiculously tiny 200ml soft drinks, but beer etc is normal sized.

Went for the Sunday roast even though they're known for their burger. Everything was delicious. The roast was seasoned well and was very tender. The Yorkshire pudding was crispy with a soft fluffy interior. Of note is their chips/fries. These are the best chips/fries I've ever had. And the food is very reasonably priced as well.

Tasty food, unfussy service and great cocktails, making a top spot for a meal. Not the cheapest place, but worth the money, and you can get a good deal from their lunch/pre-theatre menu

Very nice, had the set menu for Christmas. Steak was lovely and the sides were also very nice.

Very overrated. Service was slow & poor. Our waitress clearly not trained & as soon as she clocked off her shift we experienced the service as expected. Steak was excellent, however, there were a number of food & wine choices not available to order which was disappointing. Value for money? Average. Would I go back? Maybe

The meat is excellent and there is an impressive variety of continental wines and cocktails. The sides are what you would typically find in a London steakhouse in the 1980's. Luckily a lot of water flowed up and down the Thames river since then and most Londoners are more accustomed than ever to a fusion twist which hasn't been discovered by this establishment yet. They are edible but only the green salad was tasty (albeit lacking black pepper) because the creamed spinach and small potatoes were bland. Having said that the restaurant deserves 5 stars because of the quality products used in the cooking and the friendly staff.

The scallop starters and fillet were cooked to perfection. The service was responsive at the beginning, as I received a glass of wine, starter, and main course quickly. However, I was unable to get anyone’s attention after being served because I wanted to get another glass of wine, a Baileys for an after dinner drink, and to close out my bill. I waited about fifteen minutes trying to get someone’s attention to pay for the bill but to no avail. On my way out, I found a person who was able to close out my bill. Otherwise, I had no way of knowing how to get anyone’s attention politely. The cause for the lack of responsiveness as a guest was likely because of two large parties near me who were getting the focus of the staff’s attention. Staff were only focused on the large parties. The point I want to make is that when I dine solo, I usually arrive for an early dinner to avoid the dinner crowd—3-4pm. Had I been with a family member or two, the dinner experience would have been unpleasant with this lack of responsiveness.

This review is for the cocktail bar downstairs: Gorgeous decor but yesterday the bar had run out of several cocktails by late afternoon, and the alternatives were all substandard. My kids have made better margaritas so it was incredibly galling to pay £65 for a round of mediocre cocktails. Stick to things in bottles.

I have been to this restaurant several times, and overall, everything is usually great—the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. However, during my visit yesterday, I had an issue with the wine I ordered. It didn’t seem fresh, and after having lunch, I started feeling unwell. Within a few hours, I developed a fever and experienced severe vomiting, which seemed like food poisoning. This experience was disappointing, and I hope the restaurant takes measures to ensure the freshness and quality of their offerings.

My first choice for a great steak! Sides are always up to par as well. Service can be a little slow on busy days but staff is helpful.

Nice venue, nothing spectacular, booths cramped. Staff are attentive and busy however with no uniforms hard to distinguish staff from customers. Food was nice but not amazing. The price astronomically expensive. Not for me sorry. To eat here you must have more money then sense.

Amazing food with a great friend

Visited Hawksmoor after much anticipation and my word it did not disappoint. Sara, our server, was fantastic and kept our waters topped up. The vibes were exactly what we were after. Had a table of two and really enjoyed sitting diagonally next to each other rather than directly facing each other. The food was insane. We got the oysters and bone marrow with onions to start, followed by a porterhouse and an array of sides. We struggled to finish all the food but is was incredible. Still had room for sticky toffee pudding. Cannot wait to come back!

I tried Sunday roast there it was my first Sunday roast experience . It was super delicious and restaurant design also very good meat was super soft . (Don’t forget order the dessert)

Nice location, very spacious and comfortable. Good meat, and special mention for the bone marrow with grilled chives/shallots, which was delicious. Chateaubriand was good but not as tender as what I expected.

Staff are accommodating and give a warm, friendly greet as you arrive, offering to take coats into a cloak room area for you. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm, cosy and the decor is of a high standard. The real show stopper is the food. My favourites to order would be the scallops, the Sirloin steak and the mash which is so tasty. The chips are also cooked to perfection so defo would recommend sharing a couple of different sides if you dine with friends/family.

Food was a bit late to arrive but they made it up to us so we are very pleased !

We came for a close friend's birthday as he had been to the Covent Garden location and thoroughly enjoyed it. To say we were underwhelmed is the starting point. The evening started well, slow but relaxed. Starters of oysters and onions/bone martow were lovely. Then the mains came after 30 min. Our friend's steak was too salty, so he sent it back and the replacement was wonderful. After 2hrs10min we were offered the dessert menu and then told that we had to give up our table in 20 minutes. We were also told that our original reservation was only for 90 minutes but it had been extended. Needless to say, we declined desserts as we didn't have time. Why bother giving us a menu? The staff just shrugged their shoulders and took a 'just following orders' approach. At £360, including tip, this is not what one expects. We have had an equally good meal fornthensame price and far better service at higher end locations such as Dukes, Rules or The Delauney AND not been told we have to leave. We had a great meal but the service and attitude of the staff significantly detracted from a special evening. I must add that we were given plain chips and nice chocolates as compensation but it was too little to late.

Not allowed to bring your own birthday cake. No kids menu. No Sunday roast after 5pm. No burgers on a Sunday. Not allowed to switch anything out on a set meal for 2. Availability of food you were allowed to eat poor. Prices extortionate and not even reasonable. Staff unfriendly and scruffy and if you book in advance you may still have to wait at the bar until the other party finishes even if you arrive in time. Ofc we just walked out after it became overwhelming that this restaurant is just an overpriced overrated waste of time. Flat Iron is much better value gd quality and more accommodating. Don’t waste your money pretending your rich!

Nice atmosphere.. unfortunately a bit overpriced.. steak was ordered medium rare and was seved medium well resulting in it being extremely tough (which is partially due to the quality as well). There are much better options in the area in the same price category

One of the best steaks of my life and for sure the best pornstar martini I’ve ever had. The service by Teodor was also fantastic, he was very kind and attentive.

Lucky enough to drop in and they had a table free. The quality of their beef is really good and chef prepares to order to perfection. Added spinach and Brussels tops and a bottle of wind from the Duro to make a great evening.

All Hawksmoor restaurants have the similar dark wood vibe but I like Wood Wharf specifically because it's got lots of natural light which works really well with their interior design. Food, as always consistently good but I personally think the fillet is the best choice on the menu.

Was recommended and wow did it live up to its. Sunday dinner yesterday was amazing. We’ve never had beef before that literally melted in our mouths- both the pink and well done meats were amazing, and who knew cabbage/greens could taste so fantastic. The stuffing is a must - and those yorkies - fantastic. Great staff who really look after you, the young lady from Hartlepool was lovely. Stylish premises - yes expensive but worth treating ourselves - we’ll be back.

Steak restaurant that should be on your list . Hawksmoor is my most visited steak restaurant and for a good reason. Not only are the steaks one of the best you can get but they are also implementing sustainable practices in sourcing their meat and ingredients. Everything we had was just a pure pleasure to eat. I don't think this restaurant needs more publicity as it was fully booked when we went but if you haven't been, change that and thank me later. . I'm also going to say that the STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING is absolutely out of this world! Or at least the one spoonful I was allowed to have by my boyfriend. Which is why I'll come back for it without him :D . They have many branches around London, we visited the Wood Wharf one that floats on the water with a stunning interior and decor. . Shame. Visited other Hawksmoors and this was the worst by far. Staff rude to each other. Staff rude to me when I firmly asked where my lady's drink was after she asked twice for her glass of wine, after I had my beer delivered pretty quickly. The crab had a wedge of bread underneath that might have cracked a windscreen if thrown at it. Asked for medium done steak and what arrived was blue. All round, bad show and buck up a bit yeah! Will always think again when around Canary wharf area and perhaps go elsewhere henceforth...

Best steak in London and service is always good.

Was a 1st time customer (please read full review), wouldn't revisit or recommend to others.Ordered 2 medium rare rump steaks, greens and fries. One of the steaks came medium and all the food came extremely salty and to a barely edible level. We waited 20 minutes for another steak to arrive which we hurriedly ate due to having another booking after even though it arrived extremely salty again. The only decent tasting food was the beef fat fries. I am really disappointed with the quality of food. The staff were amazing and reduced part of the bill to compensate inconvenience. However the after taste of salt lingered for an hour after we had left and even with the reduced bill, the price we paid was not worth the food we ate. 22/11 further to my review above I have now visited the Spitafields branch to give Hawksmoor another chance and to my joy the food was outstanding. The service again was amazing as was the canary wharf branch but this time the food was what I was envisioning the first time. Thank you to both the canary wharf branch and Spitafields branch for taking my previous review seriously and coupled with outstanding customer service I would definitely visit both restaurants again with hopefully the same high food standards as tonight. The service is be best level of professionalism I have seen and experienced both in the restaurant and online for a very long time. 1 star to 3. Will get to 5 when I dine at canary wharf no doubt if it tastes anything like the food did tonight.

Great service and great Cast-Iron Steak.

Great steak, the sides are pretty average, other steakhouses have a bit more on offer that way. The restaurant wasn't as classy as it's made out to be; people cutting around in tracksuits and sliders etc, I'm no aristocrat but I expected a little more for the £200 bill. Overall pretty good but there's a lot more on offer out there for the price tag.
