Highly recommend the Hawkins Arms as a great place to visit. Atmosphere, service and the staff are 5 🌟 along with a great varied menu which all dishes are made from scratch. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Cornwall/Probus

Nice people, very friendly staff, restaurant was cold, menu was limited , soup of the day not available leaving a choice of one starter , main course of beef was passable vegetables excellent beef over cooked , lamb main course vegetables excellent lamb tough , deserts were good. Sorry but your prices too high, £26.90 for two courses and coffee is too much when compared with the Penventon or Alverton 5 star hotels at £25.00 for 2 courses and coffee but with a higher standard of meat and a warm and cosy atmosphere

I love being in the UK, but find driving on B or lesser roads to be a challenge. So my wife and I were very ready for a good feed after checking in at a nearby B&B. Hqwkins Arms lived up to its reputation for good food and a friendly atmosphere. We sat at a well-used table, and enjoyed a refreshing beverage. The fish pie made with salmon, smoked haddock and prawns was absolutely delicious, and the beer-battered fish and chips were served piping hot and stayed that way. Service was quick and very friendly. I would eat here again on my next visit to the area.

Big disappointment- had been recommended - but not sure why ! Sunday Lunch : - Apart from : Superb Carrot , Ginger & Coconut Soup ( shame about cheap sliced B&B ) The potatoes cannot have been roasted ...? absolutely awful , re heated? One sliver of Parsnip, One sliver of Carrot , Mouthful of Cauliflower Cheese , tasteless Red Cabbage ( several spoonfuls ) Lamb & Yorkshire pud & gravy were tastier . ........................... Chair had chipped / 'mended edge' which very nearly ( dexterity of Diner on leaving ) fortunately prevented damage ripping leg wear . -------------------------------------------

Very disappointed to say that we were disappointed, having read the reviews . Having the week before ate Sunday roast at the Alverton Hotel in Truro, a two course Sunday roast at the Hawkins was roughly the same price. However that’s where the comparison ends. The Sunday roast was woeful, under done and not crispy potatoes, no green vegetables and I can only guess what we had was a cauliflower cheese, but literally could not tell to be honest. Thankfully the Turkey was not overcooked Wife wanted a dessert but wanted cream (pouring or clotted) only to be told that its ice cream only The service also equally ordinary Nice pint of Tribute though, will be back for a beer, but not food Real Shame, but to be honest a half decent roast is not the most difficult to get right

I have been twice in the evening and the food was delicious, but went for lunch on Sunday and it was the worst Sunday lunch I’ve ever had, only one item not spoiled, the yourksher pudding, I had belly pork the crackling was a soggy rag, the carrots & red cabbage looked like they had been rescued from the previous two Sundays, the roast potatoes were burnt but soggy and I wasn’t sure how to describe the colliflower,it was dreadful and our two friends were so disappointed. They must have a different chef to cook on Sunday

We stayed two nights nearby and had our evening meal at this pub on the first night. The bar staff / service wasn't welcoming, nor was it unwelcoming, it was just basic. They served us, they asked how our meal was, and that was that. No smiles. The food, home cooked, was good, but nothing special. The following evening we went there for a pint before going to the Tandoori Spice restaurant close by. Different person at the bar, but again, no welcome or smiles. On both nights there was no fire lit in the chimney space, adding to the lack of warmth in the place. They really don't go out of their way to greet customers and make them feel at home. To end on a positive note, they have Proper Job on draught.

My family and I booked at table at The Hawkins Arms for Mothering Sunday. It is always a sad day as our Mum/Nanny is no longer with us but it was also a day to celebrate our amazing children and my lovely Mother in Law who has been having a difficult time, particularly recently. Upon arrival I was greeted with a beautiful, seasonal bunch of hand-tied flowers as was every Mum who visited for lunch that day. Such a kind and thoughtful gesture which was sincerely appreciated. All the staff were kind and welcoming and the menu was varied and delicious. If you haven’t already had the chance to visit, I highly recommend you do. Thanks to Graham & Phil and all the staff for a very warm welcome.

Popped in for quick drink and was thrilled to see a full early evening crowd. Plenty of atmosphere and quite a few eating early. My son who lives in Probus said food was good honest grub, came in time and reasonable price. Over the years the Hawkins has struggled to find the right tenants, but maybe it will change now. Everyone was so friendly and looked you in the eye and were pleased you’d come in. It was a bit chilly, but it’s difficult at the moment for these places to heat there properties. Keep at it, I think with better weather on the horizon and the lovely out door space you’ll do well.

We had Sunday lunch here some weeks ago and it was very poor. When my roast beef arrived the Yorkshire pudding was not only burnt, it was completely incinerated. The top was blackened and had fallen in ashes. I could not believe the chef ? had put it on the plate. I pointed it out to the waitress but got no response. I also asked her where the 'famous cauliflower cheese' (as it claimed on the menu) was and she said they hadn't done any that day. My husband had cod wrapped in bacon, except it wasn't, no bacon in sight. When paying the bill we mentioned this and the girl asked if we would like it then. As we were leaving it seemed a very strange thing to say. The owners were around but seemed not to notice. The staff were not unpleasant but just didn't understand how to deal with problems.

Rang 2 days prior, told chap on the phone that the meal was for my husband's birthday. Arrived last night & they didn't even have my booking recorded, great start. Young lady behind bar came through with menu sheets, and we were told that the Cornish Yarg, the tuna and all pies were off the menu. For me, that left meat options (I prefer not to eat red meat) or fish & chips, which is not what I came out for a celebration meal with my family for. Only 1 other family in the restaurant, but it still took quite some time (10-15 mins?) for a waitress to return, and this was only when (I assume) the more senior waitress looked over and asked if someone had taken our order. Food including portion size was OK but it was average pub food, not the cut above that it used to be. I heard there was also no dessert menu, just verbally given what they had (couldn't see, didn't hear of a specials board). Another group came in after us and left because of the food choices (or the wait, I'm not sure). Heard the chef explaining to them that because it was the last day of the month the food stock had been run down. A disappointing return, especially as we'd so enjoyed our meal when the previous owners ran it, but more disappointed because it was meant to be a special birthday meal. I also wouldn't pay almost £8 for a starter. Sorry, but we'll be going elsewhere for a meal from now on. The pub part is nicely decorated for Christmas though, so for a drink it'd be a nice place to go I'm sure.

Our family decided to venture to Probus and popped into The Hawkins Arms for a drink. We had a look at the lunch menu and decided to eat. Food was faultless. Kids food was very generous and well priced and the Beef Brisket was excellent.

Typical village boozer warm and friendly with a mix of locals. Now serving gastro pub style meals. Which certainly met our expectations large portions and quality to taste. A good selection of real ales and spirits to match. The staff were friendly, landlord appeared most certainly a busy chappie managing his new add on dining area. The locals definitely a key feature to this hospitality like venue juggling with the fine dining newbies?

We went on a Wednesday night. The building and setting is a typical village pub. Bar on one side small restaurant on other. A collection of locals in the bar with some nice live music being put on for them. The restaurant wasn’t busy 2/3 other tables as well as our four.

Fantastic pub menu. Pub a little tired but having a make over as I type. Food beautifully presented and delicious to eat. Only complaint, and not everyone would agree, too many potatoes. Otherwise a place to go

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.

Haven't stayed, but excellent range of well-kept cask ales including normally a couple from Penzance Brewing Co in Crowlas, near Penzance.

What a gem! We had no idea where to go for lunch but chose the shed; a great choice! The steak was so good and the sole cooked to perfection. Great wine, appetisers and dessert to boot. Fantastic value and the service was great Thank you so much.
