Hawelli in Birmingham

What a fantastic little gem we found this evening in Bearwood. Myself and my husband popped in for a meal out and it did not disappoint. From the minute we stood inside the door we were given a warm welcome. The restaurant was spotless .We were given a table and was given a few minutes to settle in,followed by serving us drinks and presenting us with the menus. We were not rushed and when asked about certain dishes the waiters were able to explain. I asked the waiter to get the chef to surprise me with a main dish.The food came to the table very well presented.we were given time between courses. During our time there the restaurant filled up with a mixed range of customers,some couple,families and friends which gave the restaurant a lovely atmosphere between customers and staff. I loved that the plates were nice and warm before our dishes were served. Food had a fab taste to it and best of all it was very reasonable priced. Iwould highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely return soon.

I have eaten in many Indian reataurants from Lausanne to Dishoom and recently in London but have to say Haweli is better than all of them. The food is amazing never disappoints - the lamb pathia is my favourite with the garlic chilli chicken 2nd. They get the veggie curry spot on too and James the owner is a real connoisseur of wine which just adds to the pleasure of this place. This is the best curry house in Birmingham and James and Tanvir the perfect hosts!

This restaurant just gets better everytime I go. I had yet another amazing meal there tonight. Just superb! Been to a lot of fantastic restaurants but this was in my top 2 for Indian cuisine! Please try it. My garlic chilli chicken karahi was just delicious! And my husband’s lamb jalfrazi was soooooo good. 10 out of ten for good service and value for money

We had been a couple of weeks previously and on the back of that, we were impressed. We had to wait an hour and a half for our starter (one of which was wrong), and this was with two polite requests to follow up on the delay.We also had to follow up on drinks requests.By the time we received our mains, we were almost past hunger! The food was ok.

So tonight we booked this restaurant and enjoyed our experience tremendously . We have been here before to be fair but not for a while ,and it was always good .but having not been here for a while we were happy that the welcome was just as inviting . Nice to go back to an authentic restaurant rather than an Indian grill sports bar . The food was amazingly good . Tasty full of flavour served to the table by very polite talkative staff . The restaurant itself with its vaulted ceiling is very impressive . But the food and fair pricing speak for themselves .. great couple of hours in the charming company of this restaurant . Wow wow & wow. Having lived in Birmingham for over 20 years this is one one the best curry houses I have had the pleasure of attending. The welcome was warm, friendly and a real pleasure in talking to James who clearly well versed. The decor was inviting and more importantly the cleanliness top class. Then came the food, beautiful presented, fresh and so tasty, top quality. We’ll done guys, keep up the great work and we will see you again soon. 👏👏👏

I came in mid May with an old school Indian family with high standards for good food, and we were very impressed! Especially the chicken jalfrezi and the garlic chilli chicken. The chicken sheekh kebabs were delicious too. A good sign is the food all tastes uniquely different and tasty. A nice restaurant and lovely service too from the staff. Recommended and we will be back

Takeaway Menu. Our starters and mains were very poor indeed, and very over priced. Chicken biryani consisted of a portion of very bland rice with cooked frozen mixed veg in it and just a couple of pieces of chicken. The vegetable sauce consisted of the same cooked frozen mixed veg threw into a sauce. Very unappetising and not a very good taste. Do not expect anything complimentary with your order e.g. salad and sauces. Staff very friendly when collecting our order. This is the only decent thing I can say about this restaurant.

Absolute superb. I came in late (as someone who is in the trade, I hate customers like me, lol) but I wasn't made to feel like I was an inconvenience. The food was wonderful. The Lamb Bhuna was the right mix of spices/herbs, the fried rice was light, fluffy, flavoursome & the garlic naan was crispy on the outside, but still light & actually tasted like garlic without being overpowering. My mistake was ordering too much as the portion sizes meant it should be rice or naan not both. The waiter amd the manager/owner were top notch too. I actually felt the price was too little when the bill came. This will definitely be my go to place when I fancy a curry.

Arrived 8.20pm had poppadums and dips, 10.15pm still no food arrived. No explanation from staff when food finally arrived I had already ordered a taxi so left it on table. A great shame because I have enjoyed the restaurant in the past.

Omg very bad food no taste went for my farher in laws 70th birthday service ok but food quality very poor we had chill paneer no taste at all very spicy no taste chicken tikka masala just like tomato soup never again wont be visting this place in a hurry & ps very expensive

Not only was the food and cuisine authentic and delicious, the atmosphere was incredible and the service was speedy, but the servers themselves were incredibly conscientious, attentive and all around amazing. Great atmosphere, marvellous menu and a super place to go for a meal with people of all ages.

This place use to be a superb restaurant with great food. Hadn’t been here for years and as it was close by decided to give it a go with friends. On entering it became apparent that the place had changed hands as completely new faces. The place was pretty empty. Ordered 3 curry dishes and a chicken biryani. Even though it was fairly empty the food took over half an hour to arrive. The lamb curry was bland with no more than five less than one inch cubes of meat. The chicken biryani was dry with basmati rice just mixed in with dry chicken pieces. The king prawn curry had about 3 prawns in it for £10. The only nice thing were the naan breads which were soft and fluffy. To top it up the owner was sitting on a table nearby giving a life lecture to a couple sitting with him at the top of his voice. You get better curries from the supermarket counter. Shame as this place use to be very good. Will not be returning.
