Havana Republic in Shropshire

I lost my bag and went there the next day and the staff were lovely and helpful, I went back the next week with said lost bag and bicycle and I didn’t have a bike lock yet the security took my bike in while I enjoyed the establishment and returned it when I wanted to leave Thankyou so much for having me

The guy that was on the bar was straight up rude and disrespectful when taking and making drinks. He was rolling his eyes and swearing at customers and was overall negative with no positive service. He started an argument with me over mine and my friends conversation that in no way related to or involved him and threatened to kick us out over a conversation about our friends. Will not be returning, majority of the customers are hostile and the staff have no sense of professionalism about them. Awful experience.

Overpriced & Underwhelming Attended my daughter’s baby shower 3rd March. She paid £350 for the room which was unswept and cold to start with The plates had to be replaced as they were dirty and some glasses. The food was limited even though we had paid £18.95 a head. The scones had so much baking powder in them it left an after taste we asked for more cakes and were told that there were enough just move around the tables!! Extra sandwiches were brought out. Not very appetising. My friends celiac selection was disappointing the scone was so hard it could not even be broken apart. We had to serve our own tea and coffee and the bar was not manned until several requests and two hours into the event The final insult was my daughter was kept for 30 minutes at the end because they didn’t realise that the event had already been paid on the previous Thursday and they told her she still owed for it!! She has voiced her frustration but was told that they had only received positive feedback!! Don’t waste your money book elsewhere

Went here for a baby shower on Sunday 4th March. Was Absolutely appalled by how we were just left. Myself and a friend ended up with no afternoon tea just a couple of veggie sandwiches (neither of us are veggie) and this was after we quizzed that we needed more food on the table. The mum to be had to ask for clean plates as the originals for everyone were dirty. On many occasions we struggled to find someone to serve at the bar for drinks. The tea and coffee was just on the side and we had to help our self. For £20 a head you almost expected at least a pot of tea on the table for more convenience! Someone has emailed about the issue we had with 2 of us not receiving any food and has been called a liar. There was roughly 28 of us and at roughly £20 they have made over £500 for us not to be given the service we should have! Absolutely ridiculous, will definitely not be going back!

2/10 would NOT recommend for baby shower / large group for afternoon tea. About 28 of us Paid about £20 for afternoon tea for 2 of us to be completely left out receiving only a plate of vegetarian sandwiches and taking scones off other tables, a staff member asked if everything was ok when the food was first brought out to which I said no we don’t have any and she only brought vegetarian sandwiches on a plate. We’ve paid for an experience, not £20 for some naff sandwiches on a plate!! No staff present at the bar so only some of us could order drinks when you could actually catch a member of staff. The plates were dirty. You had to get your own tea from a table, no tea pots or someone serving it. It was a shambles. You would have thought a staff member would’ve been present for £500 very poorly managed such a shame

Good food, not badly priced. Service was good but was also pretty quiet.

No comment. Not wasting my breath after Ill treatment and error by the security that is blatently ignored when I rang about a issue. That's business minded people staying in defence of a company like many not wanting a bad name on there shoulders. It happened. And in there. I don't want to be approached by such a varied echolan of life mentioning illicits. Well. I am not worried. Better of now I know the truth. Even some security I chatted to remarked on the ongoings I watched a brawl where 2 police cars arrived to halt the escalating violence. Why is this allowed. Making progress when titles in papers saying what's wrong with the UK. Great example hushed up about till now. Why should I take repercussions in my professional career and not make awareness. I have now.

Went there tonight. A young male security guard refused me entering. Both the night club by the station and havana are owned by the same owner. Now. Same dress code I am wearing tonight. Yet the young security guard refused me. Even though they allow real drunken people. Language. Talk of white stuff etc. Prices are quite different. My god. That's certainly definitely spelt a odd Shrewsbury to live in. Some stinking attitude in Shrewsbury. Real mayhem going on here. One doesn't know what the other does. No wonder a talk about business declining is going on. That's really finished me here for good. Shrewsbury has a reputation that is fast becoming the pits especially social delinquency.

I have been coming to Havana for a number of years now and it’s a brilliant night out. The bar staff make you feel welcome and the new bar taps are a great addition. The DJ is more than happy to take requests and makes for a great night out. The best part about this venue has to be the security team. They make you feel incredibly safe and are more than happy to listen to your issues from making sure that you get home safely to making you feel comfortable to bring up any issues you may have. I have Never felt safer on a night out than I have here. They go above and beyond and make for an excellent team. Overall a great venue with a great cocktail menu for a late night drink.

Had a girls night out and the venue was fantastic and so we’re the staff, the drinks were reasonably priced and tasted amazing (rum cocktails) the music was excellent a plethora of generations from old classics to the new. The security staff are on point and made me and my friends feel really safe, with all the trouble happening around town it’s nice to find a venue with security that care. Just a quick mention that Jane is wonderful I had a bit of a wobble due to an old injury and bad choice of shoe and she got me sorted really quickly, was really polite and helped myself and my friends get a taxi home Definitely a asset to the team

Arguably the most horrific downturn of a venue since time began. C:21 used to be the heartthrob of a night out in town, it's utterly horrific since the takeover! When you can't make an espresso martini it's probably time to pack it in.

Always had a good night in here when butters owned it but tonight lack of stock and no offence slow service

Ordered some drinks at the bar and was spoken to incredibly rudely, asked for a lime in a beer to which they refused, I asked if they had any and then they said “obviously” and huffed at me before basically throwing it at me. They state they are open till X time however it seems like if they fancy it they just shut early. Even if it appears to be busy enough to justify remaining open. Really disappointing as I used to love it and the old team were all so friendly and added personal touches . Shout out to the blonde male though however who is always really friendly and makes that extra effort. Hopefully things will change but it is a real shame.

Not a good night out. Come here regularly, believe it’s recently changed hands. Latest experience has been awful. Bouncers are over-threatening. We were told we couldn’t enter because we weren’t at a Xmas party. The place was half empty. After consulting a ‘manager’ we were reluctantly let in. One of our group was threatened by the bouncer for agressive behaviour. This person simply asked why weren’t allowed in. Staff at the bar very impatient and bordering on rude. Mainstay of a Shrewsbury night out - such a shame.

Called in for a late lunch & to be fair wish we hadn’t bothered…very very average meal! Numerous chips were hard ace undercooked… Fish had the Stodgiest batter I’ve ever had! Not at all good!…only ate about a quarter of it…don’t think we’ll be returning here. Maybe try better eateries in the town 👍🏼

We came here for drinks and food during a day of drinking. We were there between 5 and 7pm on a Saturday which is happy hour so drinks were 2 for 1. To be honest drinks were a bit overpriced despite paying £10 for two, I can’t imagine paying full price. Staff were friendly and helpful though and the interior of the place is nice. We also ordered food. Two of us ordered chicken parmigiana, one with linguine and one with chips however they both came with linguine. I had chicken katsu curry. Overall food was nice but definitely was overpriced as these meals were £13-15 and were very basic.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all staff at the Peach Tree/ Havana Club for making our wedding day so special. The venue was well organised and totally met all of our needs with very helpful service. I would highly recommend getting in touch if you wanted a venue for a function as their capabilities and expertise are spot on!

Organised a friends hen party here! I'm so glad I chose this place. From the booking and dealing with Steve to the cocktail class everything was perfect. I did ask for the lady who did the cocktail classes name during the evening... unfortunately, after a few drinks I can't remember. I wanted to mention her personally as she really made the evening brilliant. She was so down to earth and lovely. All the staff were absolutely amazing and a real credit to this place. The drinks were great and the atmosphere lovely and so clean. Fantastic evening!

Booked reservation over the phone on 10 July and when we arrived we was told to pay £5pp to gain entry. We walked away. Why wasn’t we advised when we booked. Our night was ruined really because we had arranged everything around going there. The money wasn’t the problem I just wished we was informed before hand.

When we arrived we were seated and the lady seating us quickly abandoned us, it seemed they were understaffed at that point. The seating wasn’t suitable for the 12 people we had booked for and wasn’t suitable for eating at, as the tables were tiny and sofas too low. I had clearly booked for a meal, I checked my booking when I got home. We were without attention or drinks at the beginning for too long. When we asked if we could move to a more suitable area we were told “no” the area we suggested was booked. After querying again with a different member of staff whether we were able to have seating where we could dine, we were then moved to the tables that we had already been told were “booked”. We were very aggressively told by an older female member of staff twice that we were not to sit in the formation we were sitting in due to COVID rules. Whilst I have no issue at all with what she was saying, she crossed the line between assertive and rude and I felt very upset about my family being spoken to in this way. One of whom is 80 years of age. It was like being told off at school. If I had been able to secure a booking elsewhere at this point we would have left. The older two female members of staff could learn something from the younger members of their team and their owner/manager who were lovely, polite, and and very attentive. We all enjoyed our food and drinks, but for me the whole experience was spoiled by the disorganisation over our table and the attitude of the member of staff in charge of our table.

Used to be a regular customer but won’t be coming again, on the last three occasions I’ve had the barmaid shout at me for either asking for service politely when she’s been stood around talking, and she refused to serve me until I paid for the drinks that a friend had apparently “done a runner from” when he was in the smoking area. Attitude problem

Lovely place for a quiet drink with board games and jenga to entertain. Would recommend this place but only as a treat as the prices can be a little more expensive than others. Overall, nice staff and very entertaining Monday nights with a drag queen act.

There was a nice set up for the Christmas dinner. We arrived to a decorated table with Christmas crackers. BUT, the food was very bland. There was no flavor to the starter or the main. The salmon was over cooked, it was tough and not pleasant. The rice looked like it had some tomato sauce on it, but it just tasted like plain rice. The pudding was tasty, but that's about it. The atmosphere was lovely. Just a shame about the food. I would go there again just for drinks but not the food.

Called in for a few cocktails while it was happy hour. Wasn’t disappointed, the Pina colada was so nice, I had a few. Also tried the strawberry daiquiri, which was a bit too overpowering on taste. Nice friendly atmosphere

Nice enough place for a quiet pint & catch up after a curry with a pal

Had an amazing 18 year old birthday party at Havana. We had a private room in the back complete with a full bar and DJ. Steve (general manager) was a complete dream to work with! He was open to our ideas and wishes. It seems like no request was too great or too small. He even answered questions when he was on holiday....talk about above and beyond with client service! The staff (Toni-bartender, Rob - waiter) were fantastic, but I have to give Hannah, their in-house baker, a huge round of applause. I showed her the cake we wanted from a picture on Pinterest . She took one look at it and was like, "Yah, I can do that!" And it was gorgeous AND delicious! The venue was perfect our daughter's crowd that had over 18's and under 18's. James was the DJ which kept the music going. We ordered finger food for the party which included gluten free options. All in all, our daughter was so happy with her party and it made us happy to see her enjoy her time with her friends. Havana was a big part of that and a BIG thank you to Steve and his fine staff!

Get there before 7 and enjoy the 2 for 1 cocktails. The pina coladas are excellent!

Good night apart from the party of lady's

Not worth paying to get in. Music was pretty mediocre. Toilet was clean. Not much else to recommend.

Had a glass of wine and ordered some pitta great, olives etc and waited an hour for them to turn up. Staff were slow in chasing up my order each time I asked if it was coming.

Noisy and a bit chavvy. Bar staff quite good but some of the customers dreadful (unless you like braying shot swiggers). Back room is quite nice when used for comedy shows but I can't imagine coming for anything else. No decent beers.

Nice Cocktail bar in a fantastic location with good restaurants and entertainment nearby. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Cocktails delicious. Very nice.

Found this place by chance and what a find it was!! A cracking bar from drinks to decor incorporating a bar, restaurant and club. Strongly recommend giving it a look.

On a Saturday evening, seems it a cocktail bar! London prices. It’s trying to be something it isn’t, live music was out of tune and tinny. Not a good first visit.

There's a great decor and atmosphere inside that feels like a quintessentially Cuban bar, with a good range of drinks available. My experience though when I came here for a pre meal drink with my girlfriend and visiting mother and step dad was basically waiting at the bar for 25 minutes without getting served by the one bartender working who basically only served the ladies. We gave up and left. I have since heard good things about this place but I am still yet to return.

Fantastic night out been about 5 times and never had a good time

Just returned from celebrating the baptism of my son with a lovely meal at Havana republic. We initially booked another venue and where let down but Steve at Havana republic was amazing and a week before he booked our 29 guests in. We had the back room at the venue which is spacious, bright and perfect for any private function.The staff were attentive and accommodating.Food superb and we were made to feel so welcome and not rushed at all.Thank you to Steve and all the staff for a wonderful afternoon.

Loved the place so much we had to return the following evening. Great selection and brilliant explanations on the menu. Would recommend the Spiced Bongo and Lady P cocktails. Brother-in-law who only ever drinks Old Fashioned said it was the best he had had for years!

Myself and a group of friends visited Havana and had a lovely evening. The bar staff were friendly and efficient. The cocktails were amazing and the atmosphere was even better! We’re already looking forward to visiting again.

Sorry but really loved this place years ago but now not impressed. Gone a bit too much upmarket and not for me and my mates now.

My partner and I decided we would eat at Havana Republic when we found out that they had a Dolly Parton tribute on. Whilst booking a table we enquired about the show and it was then we was offered front of stage seats reserved, of course we said yes! On arrival we were welcomed and shown to our seats in a warm lit corner of the restaurant. The venue was already filled with the aromatic scents of the kitchen and we knew just from the smell the food was going to be delicious. My partner had a beautiful carbonara with a side of the most cheesiest garlic bread you could ever imagine! Myself on the other hand had a sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked and danced whilst melting on my taste buds! When we finished our meal we were led to the next room and to our front of stage, candle-lit table to enjoy the show which was incredibly joyful and full of spirit. The staff that would go out there way to please, the delicious food, and the great entertainment really left us smiling. We have already told most of our friends and family about our experience and I’m sure we’ll be telling more. Thank you very much for giving us a night to remember.

For 2 consecutive years we have had our staff Christmas party at Havana,the food has always been lovely but this year it was exceptional,such a variety of food which was delicious,generous portions and very attentive staff (Lucy)thanknyou see you next year x

A fantastic evening with a super set from the Ronaldo’s, 2 hours of entertainment and extremely up close and personal, thoroughly enjoyed it. Bar staff were attentive and table service offered and taken. shakers were out (I have blisters to prove it, they were bottles with stones in) hilarious watching people shake like mad, definitely changed the atmosphere of the night and will definitely look forward to seeing the Ronaldo’s again.

We had a table booked else where and tonight we'd stop off for a quick cocktail on route and decided the atmosphere was so lovely with the guitar playing we'd stay. Raf our server was very very helpful, lovely and polite. He put a shine on our evening.

Guau, guau y guau. Reservamos la habitación trasera en La Habana para mis primos de bebé. Organizamos para todos nosotros para tomar el té de la tarde. Cuando llegamos, la habitación era preciosa, todo era listo, velas encendidas y mesas dispuestas, iluminación impresionante. Nos permitieron decorar y el personal era muy servicial en todo momento. La comida era increíble! Una mezcla de sándwiches, que estaban llenos de relleno sabroso, pasteles, galletas, bollos caseros con jamón y crema. Que era suficiente! ! También tuvimos a alguien sin gluten y 2 veganos, y les encantó la comida que fue preparada por separado para ellos y de nuevo me dijeron era una comida increíble. Nos metieron en jugar a juegos y con gente pidiendo un montón de Prosecco. Por el precio que cuesta este lugar superó mis expectativas y no puedo esperar a volver para otro evento. Día fantástico tiene por todo, gracias a los chefs y a todo el personal! !

We had cocktails before dinner in the restaurant next door. There was live music on, table service for drinks, and the cocktails were reasonably priced. Would go again.

What an amazing venue with lashings of character, vast range of drinks on offer all served by pleasant staff members. I also had the pleasure to watch the entertainment that was on in the adjoining club can't remember last lime I laughed so much. I will be taking the drive from Stoke on Trent again for a repeat visit.Highly recommend this venue to everyone.Hope the management, Host, Staff and security keep up the good work.

Such a shame as the venue is great. Had we just gone for drinks I would have been happy but unfortunately we are here. The food was over priced and of poor quality. I would have complained but no one asked how the food was. I asked for no black pudding which the server said was fine to do however black pudding came. Had I have been told it was a problem if have picked something else ! Asked for no brioche bun. Was told this was fine I said if there's only brioche buns bring a plain burger. Guess what burger arrived dry and over cooked on a brioche bun !!!! I had to dismantle my meal at the table. Asked for a side plate to put the brioche bun and watery salsa on and it never came. Would go for drinks just never again for food when Shrewsbury has a multitude of other places as expensive but far more customer centric.

The staff here are so very friendly. The decor is simple but so tasteful, I really enjoyed myself here and look forward to a return visit. It is open late and relaxing a great place for couples or business people to meet. The staff as well as friendly and polite are efficient and keep the place so cleanA great atmosphere!!!!!!

We only actually had drinks (cocktails) in here, but they were so good that we went back after dinner, for some more! Happy hour, £4 for a selection of cocktails, is so worth it. Also, it's joined to the Momo No Ki noodle bar.

Thank you to ALL the team for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of South African wines, which were excellent, culture and food delights. Looking forward to the next world adventure.

The evening went very smoothly an well. The wines we tasted were all very nice and the host provided good information and was humorous to. The accompanying dishes of food we had to go with the wine was very tasty and well thought out and the combinations were very good.

What a great night, Simon Grayson gave a great talk on all the different wines of South Africa and Chris Burt provided speciality meals a Curry dish, lamb dish, beef strips, sausage and a fabulous pudding (I had 2 of them ☺️) I'm no wine connoisseur but thoroughly enjoyed learning what good wine really should taste like. Thank you to Grant and his staff at Havana for a lovely night and great service. Looking forward to the next one in July.

My family had been here before and had a good meal at a reasonable price, so we thought we'd return recently. This time the atmosphere wasn't the same. The food itself was okay but I was rather shocked when the waiter who had offered us Olives & Bread oils while we were waiting on the main course to arrive,then charged us £10 for same! I felt we should at least have been advised of the charge, especially as the olives cost £5 according to the bill & not one of us ate any of them! Bought a round of drinks to accompany the meal, then asked for a jug of water and was charged £3.25 for same! These are normally complimentary in most restaurants and just spoilt an otherwise okay meal. Not a good way to secure repeat business in the current competitive market.

We went to Havana Republic at the beginning of February to celebrate my birthday and had a fantastic evening. There were 7 of us in our party and everyone really enjoyed their food and drinks. The restaurant has a great fun atmosphere and the service was very attentive. Really pleased I picked Havana for this occasion and we will return again soon.

If you want that lovely cuban music and the feel of hot balmy nights in Havana, then this is the place for you. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic. The only down side (and its an avoidable one) if you cross between the two eateries you negotiate an area set aside for smokers....when they open that door ....eek. However, just hold your breath. This bar is worth it and I cant wait to go again and this time try the food.

AMAZING place with AMAZING food AMAZING drinks and amazing staff, prices are good too. It turned out (because the staff are so nice) I made friends with them! The atmosphere is calming and just like a Cuban restaurant! I will go there time and time and time again!

Descended upon Havana republic after our staff meal... Had called ahead to pre order some prosecco and we were delighted to find that Grant and his lovely team had reserved us a great big table near the bar. So great to have such a fuss made of us! Great stylish venue, great drinks, great staff and service!

Had recommended this place to wedding party but wished I hadn't.50 people booked for food, drinks and party on Sunday evening 1900. They were expecting us but completely ill prepared.Only one bar girl and service terribly slow. Cocktails took an age and couldn't believe it when they ran out of Limes. So that knocked out half the cuban type cocktails. when two other girls turned up to help they didn't know how to do the cocktails. Food arrived on cold plates and not very nice food at that. Drinks and food very overpriced.Suggest give it a miss. There are better cheaper places.

I came here on Sunday 20th for an evening meal. Although it was reasonably quiet there was plenty of atmosphere from the brilliant music choice. I had the Chicken and Waffles which were perfect whilst my partner had the Miami Vice? which was also brilliant. I have to tip my hat to the lady working behind the bar who did brilliantly, so thank you very much.

Some friends and I came to eat one evening before visiting the cinema. The staff were extremely welcoming, kinda, and helpful with choices and reccommendations as the menu is all delicious. I ordered the Smokin Joe Frazier which was fantastic, I was also able to sample other dishes my friends' had which were all also delicious as well. The food here is homely and delightful. Accompanied by some cocktails which were nice but other places in Shrewsbury offer better. The prices are a little dear but the food and experience were great. Overall a fantastic night and place to go. Would reccommend to all.

Wonderful food & cocktails and a lovely friendly atmosphere - perfect night out for catching up with friends

This was my second visit here, as I was keen to sample more of the menu. Once again I was not disappointed. Firstly, the service, it was perfect. It's quite a bold statement to say that but it really was that good. The American waiter (who's name I forget) was great, providing flawless service. Secondly, the food, it was really really good - we had a selection of different things from the menu, all of which were perfect. This place delivers what so many other places fail to.

A group of six of us visited one Evening. We were pretty much the only ones there (says a lot). We sat down to a menu which on paper sounds like a real treat with its quirky names - sadly when it comes it's a little more basic and very over priced. My friend had the Miami vice £20. Which looked like a small piece of steak covered in some thick chorizo stodge with a side of small small fries - adding a bit of coleslaw would have helped fill the plate!! The puddings on the menu looked impressive only to find out after our main that the menu had changed which quickly took away our excitement (they are now rather bland too) A couple of us hadn't gone for a starter in favor of one of the tempting puds which we then regretted. Overall I was really looking forwarding to visiting - but it's not a patch on smoke stop so sadly I wouldn't return, plus no atmosphere and drab staff to match.

Good atmosphere, nice to be in a bar where you can hold a conversation. Plenty of room to sit, not very busy for a Saturday night- not sure if that's a good thing or not??

We both ordered the paella and it was excellent, really tasty! I'll be returning again to try other items from the menu! I was able to pretty much choose any cocktail that they made into a mocktail (non-alcoholic) for me, these were really great. The service was really good.

Start to finish this place was great. Couldn't fault the service. It was hard to choose from the menu, everything looked delicious. We chose a variety of things and were very happy with every dish. Highly recommended, we will be going back again.
