We recently had our wedding at Berwick Lodge and I cannot recommend this venue enough! Georgia and Rhiannon made everything really smooth, took care of all the details and made us feel very happy and confident with everything. One of the most important things for us was having a fully vegan wedding, and the team at Berwick Lodge went above and beyond!! The food was delicious, filling and we didn't really have to worry about anything- they had plenty of amazing options for us!! The rooms at Berwick Lodge are all stunning and we couldn't be happier with how everything went. Highly recommend Berwick Lodge if you're looking for wedding venues!!

My son gave my wife and I a "Sunday Lunch for Two" voucher for this place as a present a little while ago, and towards the end of October we got around to using it. The menu for this option is very limited but dose cover meat eaters, pescatarians and veggie options so everyone should find something. Once we had found the half mile single track from the main road to the hotel, we arrived in a smart wooded estate with a good sized gravel car park with a short walk to the (less than obvious) entrance - a very large double oak door. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our excellent table for two near a window overlooking the extensive gardens and given copies of the various menus. Whilst the lunch menu is deliberately limited the same cannot be said of the drinks menu! Sadly for me I had to stick to sparkling water and alcohol free beer. We both made the same lunch choices though, but before it was served we were treated to a selection of very small but tasty warm home baked bread rolls - A trout starter - this was absolutely nothing like any trout I have ever had before! Excellent but quite different, and served with beetroot sliced so thin as to be almost like tissue paper. Excellent and unexpected! This was a Sunday lunch, we are British so naturally we chose roast beef as our main course! Unlike the first course this was served in a very traditional way - two generous "slices" (actually more like small steaks) of perfectly cooked top class beef in a very tasty dark gravy with greens, carrots, and other root vegetables and lovely roast potatoes, naturally accompanied by a "proper" Yorkshire pudding. We just added a small portion of the offered horseradish and enjoyed the next half hour slowly consuming it. Finally pudding (or dessert if you prefer) - we both chose the poached pear with a chocolate tart and icecream. Once again it was fabulous! We skipped the optional tea/coffee/petit fours as we could not have done them justice, and after finishing our drinks and taking a brief walk in the sunlit grounds we left. It's worth noting that as well as being beautifully and appropriately decorated, the dining room is not crowded and the tables are a generous size; the proprietors have sensibly avoided the the modern trend of "packing them in to boost numbers and short term profits" this off course is the best long term policy as it means we are much more inclined to make a return visit! At around £130 for two including gratuities etc, this was not cheap, but do be assured that it was excellent value for money and we will be back!

We had the taster menu with the wine option and it was just incredible. Had some of the most wonderful dishes I have ever tasted and definitely the most delicious wines ever. The Inniskillin Vidal Gold dessert Ice wine was just divine. We were looked after for the evening by Nicoletta who was extremely knowledgeable and explained the wines so well. Everything about the dining experience was just superb. Also highly recommend the breakfast - so delicious and plenty on offer, great value for money.

We had a truly outstanding Sunday Lunch at Berwick Lodge on Sunday 21 July. The food and service were exceptional. Earlier in the year, as a wheelchair user, I raised my concerns and complained after visiting for Afternoon Tea. My complaint was about the access to the disabled facilities. I was immediately contacted by Sarah one of the Managers to apologise and she set out a clear plan of remedial action. I have been very impressed by the genuine desire to make standards better and during this visit everything was sorted, accessible and safe. Well done Sarah and the team! There are still a few access issues with Berwick Lodge being an older building, but these are highlighted and support from staff is willingly on hand. Will definitely be going back in the future.

Six of us met for our 54th Wedding Anniversary, so including our son and daughter and their other halfs. The four "youngsters" arrived earlier than us; there were sat in the garden with drinks, waiting for us to arrive. It was a surprise for my wife. Berwick Lodge has a great extensive garden, the good weather no doubt helped. The waiter who took our drinks and food order kindly took the group photo for me. Inside an interesting old building, the food in the restaurant was really very good, the four waiters worked so well together, their service was immaculate. Congratulations to the chef too. Berwick Lodge claims to be "The Best Kept Secret in Bristol". I would not disagree, it is certainly hidden away in the country at the end of a no though road - a real country lane, in places with passing places. We expect to be returning again one day.

Was treated to an afternoon tea by our daughter, finally using the vouchers last week. It isn't the easiest place to get to with a very narrow lane to navigate, but once there it is impressive! The staff are very attentive, the food delicious and the views are so pretty. They accommodated my awkward low fodmap regime without any issue at all. I took a photo, but only after we had eaten the sandwiches and delicious little hot nibbles.

We got married at Berwick Lodge in spring this year, and choosing it as our wedding venue was the best decision we possibly could have made! If, like we were, you are reading reviews and trying to choose a venue, I can’t recommend enough that you drop everything and book a viewing to see this incredible place for yourself! From our very first viewing, the care and attention that we received from the team at Berwick, especially the wonderful Georgia, was second to none. They made the process of planning our wedding so smooth and enjoyable, and were always happy to help with any questions we had. On the day itself, the whole team couldn’t have been more kind and helpful, with everything running in a really calm and organised way thanks to their hard work. Georgia and the staff at the Lodge really do think of everything to make your day as special as it can be - there were so many little details which helped make it unforgettable for us! The Lodge itself is unbelievably beautiful - it was a magical place to get married in and has so many lovely spaces, whether you’re hoping to hold your whole day indoors or spend most of the day outside in the stunning grounds (or a mix of both, like us!). Both indoors and outdoors are beautifully and uniquely decorated, full of charm and character. The bedrooms are jaw-droppingly gorgeous (especially Troya!) - it was fantastic to stay overnight, with plenty of rooms for family and friends to stay too, and breakfast the next day was delicious. Which brings me to the food - it was AMAZING. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and generously portioned, eliciting lots of great feedback from our guests! There are lots of options to personalise your wedding food for your day, and the team and kitchen were fantastic with dietary requirements. They were kind enough to invite us to a tasting evening a few months before our wedding, which was great fun, and everything we tried was stunning. On a practical note, Berwick Lodge is fantastically located - it has the feeling of a remote country venue because of the surrounding woodland, but it is a stone’s throw away from hotels at Cribbs Causeway and Bristol itself. We found it to be more competitively priced than similar types of venue we also viewed in the local area. And, because it is a hotel and restaurant when not closed for a wedding, there is the lovely option of coming back again and again to celebrate your wedding anniversary - which we can’t wait to do! Overall, there really are no words to describe what a magical place Berwick Lodge is, and we couldn’t be happier to have got married there. Thank you Georgia and the team for making our wedding day so special!

We went her for our anniversary. We had pre ordered the taster menu. Following our satnav we ended up at the back of the hotel down a small track. Eventually we got to the restaurant and parking was simple. Dining room clean and table ready for us. Staff were polite, food was good but 2 times l had lemon put in my drink. First time fine because it was water and l hadn't told them but second time was a mistake. Dessert was served in the wrong order. All in all though a nice a night. Food was all good but for me a disappointment that the Pidgeon and lamb were sous vide. The asparagus risotto however was absolutely great.

We stayed in the mews building “Caspian room”. Had a terrible nights sleep in a small room with a rock hard bed. Overall a bit disappointing for the price. Pros - Good pillows. - Quiet location. - Great shower. Big Cons - Rock hard mattress (a clearly known issue as it has two extra padded mattress toppers). - “Wide bed” is actually two single mattresses in one frame. - Toilet door has transparent glass with line of sight from bed to toilet. No privacy. - Undersized duvet for bed width. - Photos misleading as lobby looked like part of the room. The photo of the sofa, is in the lobby, which is shared with the other room in this building and unusable. Small cons - Double charged for room (two receipts but got refund on pointing out the error) - Misleading through omission. Spiral staircase is external and feels treacherous in the wet. - Thin walls and next to other room

Shops aren't close by, so ensure you have everything you need. We enjoyed the massive bed which was very comfy. Shower was great. Evening meal was delicious. Room was warm and quiet. Great view from the balcony. We purposely chose a room with a balcony. Whilst the room Zeguma was lovely and quirky but we didn't like the low beams and posts. Hubby wasnt relaxed walking around the room for fear of banging his head. Bathroom door didn't close very well. Shame breakfast isn't included in the cost. Overall a very nice stay, I would come again but choose a different room. Would recommend.

My wife and myself are nearing the end of a most enjoyable 3 night stay at the Berwick Lodge (close but a world away from Bristol) where we dined - for Breakfast & Dinner at their Hattusa (Turkish UNESCO World Heritage Site) Restaurant. The ambience (interesting decor and refined background music) is certainly that of a fine-dining establishment. Breakfast offers a good range of hot dishes (our favourites being porridge followed by scrambled eggs and smoked salmon) accompanied by a choice old fresh fruit and yoghurt. Dinner is selected from either of the A La Carte & Brasserie Menus (neither extensive but offering a good mix of dishes) and all the starters, mains & deserts we had were delicious and well presented. Service at both meals was also polished and user-friendly. All in all, this is an excellent restaurant - undoubtedly one of the best locally although I suspect not one widely known nor patronised by non-residents - and one I would strongly recommend.

We met here to team up with my daughter for the moment she would receive her Uni results. Afternoon Tea was served outside, a stunning well kept garden, I could have sat there all day. The Tea was absolutely delicious and thoughtfully baked and prepared. Nothing was too much trouble, as the staff had a long way to walk as service was outside, and they were always happy and willing. My daughters result was better than hoped, and all the staff were part of this journey. They really helped us celebrate the good news. The venue was smart and well run, but felt so homely and relaxed, I cannot wait to go back and try Dinner and an overnight stay. I might even divorce my wife, just so that I can remarry her here. ( if she reads this im only joking xx). I cant recommend it highly enough, and it will go down as one of my most memorable and happy moments. Gorgeous room where we were waited on by attentive, friendly staff. We were offered the choice of the fine dining menu or the less formal bar menu. We enjoyed our meal, the food is very good, although I differ on opinion with the Chef on seasoning as I thought a little 'under', but then that might suit the more health conscious. Not a problem though, as our waitress appeared swiftly with salt & pepper on request and this hardly a criticism more a matter of individual taste. Good wine list and we enjoyed a good bottle of Chablis - the waitress substitued my first choice as a chilled bottle was not immediately available, but that far more appreciated than serving it warm. All in all a lovely evening topped off with a very fine cognac (reasonably priced) in the cozy sitting room.

My best friend is getting married at Berwick Lodge later in the year so we were visiting to have a further look around the hotel rooms. They run a competition to win a meal for two and given my recent luck I entered....to find a delightful email a month or so later saying I'd won!My friend and I visited to claim our free three course meal on a recent Monday lunchtime. Hattusa was understandably very quiet but the atmosphere was lovely (as I'm realising is par for the course there).Service was so pleasant and we felt very special. The food was very good overall - we ate from the 3 courses for £30 menu I believe. My starter was the mackerel which was beautifully presented and served with a bright orange sauce. The menu said it came with aioli so I'm not sure whether this was it? The mussels accompanying the fish were delicious and my favourite part of the dish. My friend chose the unfortunately named pig's head terrine but said it was divine. For mains it was an obvious choice for me in the duck - this one dish comprised so many of my favourite things it was like heaven on a plate: pearl barley, pak choi and coriander, not to mention the delicious and succulent duck that was cooked excellently. This was my favourite dish, really excellent. My friend was torn between the gurnard or the vegetarian main - she went for the celeriac and chestnut lasagne and said she had no regrets. We were both pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes - they were larger than expected (although not too big I hasten to add!).We both chose the same pudding and we very glad we had - to be honest it was a little on the odd side so we were glad we could compare notes! It was the dark chocolate and rosemary pain perdu - essentially a chocolate bread and butter pudding served piping hot in a very cute little ceramic dish. However the accompanying accoutrements were what made it a little strange. There was the dark chocolate and rosemary cream which was nice but underwhelming as it didn't taste remotely of rosemary (not sure if this is good or bad but I was intrigued by the pairing so expected it to at least taste of rosemary), some blood orange sorbet (which was nice enough but just didn't go with the stodgy warm pudding at all and felt like it belonged in a different dish) and lots of chocolatey crumbs (which again were tasty but just confusing).Overall the meal was great but the slightly baffling pudding let it down just a little and meant the lasting impression was of that rather than of one of the better courses. However overall the food here is very good and reasonable for the price, the wine was delicious and the setting is stunning - this is a really lovely place with superb service.

.We love Berwick Lodge and over the past year have been there many many times for Afternoon Tea and Sunday Lunch.AFTERNOON TEAA lovely relaxing couple of hours in charming surroundings. The pretty china is interesting and unusual. Only suggestions - (a) fresher bread (or not pre-frozen) and maybe a savoury choice of little quiches (add an extra £ to two, to the price to cover cost). A lovely way to while away an afternoon. P.S. You won't want any supper - and only have a late light brunch beforehand - like most Afternoon Teas, it is rather filling.SUNDAY LUNCHA very limited menu of just three choices for each Course but always easy to find something to suit. Very well presented on plates - and luckily nothing served on those awful and unhygienic wooden meat carving boards!I always have the Sirloin of Beef (I wouldn't leave home for a Sunday Lunch that served less than a Sirloin or Rib cut) but ........................... why oh why is it served in one chunk of about 2" square? It doesn't look good and spoils the immediate impact of the meal. Slices are so much more sensible and fills the plate. I know chef's like to 'put their own stamp' on things - but this stamp should be changed. I know of two different sets of elderly people to whom I recommended the Sunday Lunch who, although they enjoyed the meal, they just didn't like the way the meat was presented. So they've all returned to their old haunt of The Cowshed for Sunday Lunch - albeit they don't really like the surroundings and thought that Berwick Lodge was much more atmospheric and charming.I have to say that the Sirloin itself is delicious and easy to carve - it just doesn't look very nice to begin with. Chef ....... do change it to the more traditional way of serving roast meats in the UK.Overall - recommended. .

Menu a little pricey-but exceeded by the quality and presentation of the food. Lovely surroundings, beautiful building and great ambience. Try the spicy home made burger and fat chips - delicous

My wife and I went for an evening meal and in my opinion it was the best food I've had in Bristol. The dishes were smallish (don't go if you just want loads of carbs) but they had so much intense and varied flavours that I ate smaller mouthfuls than usual. In addition a number of very interesting 'amuse bouches' came between courses. The chef's style seemed to be to have the variations of the same meat in the same course in a different way - for example I had a ramekin of an intense rabbit stew (dark meat) with slices of lighter rabbit breast separately, and a number of different sauces on the plate to have with them. Of note were the homemade fudges the came with coffee. I don't know what the criteria is for Michelin stars but the chef cannot be far off.It is a bit out of the way (a mile long track from next to Clifton Rugby ground near Cribbs Causeway) so it's a bit quieter than some places - very relaxed - probably best for groups or couples - the food is well worthy of a celebration! It's moderately expensive but the food was so good I've still rated it top value.

If all Sunday lunches were like this we would eat them everyday of the week. A very grand country house feel to the whole experience. This was our second visit to Hattusa's, (see previous review under "Berwick Lodge"). From the moment you walk in to reception, where the staff stand up to greet you, all the way through the service is impeccable, and the food is very good. Nothing is to much trouble for the waiting staff and their knowledge of the dishes is very impressive. This is our number one restaurant in Bristol for a very good reason. Thanks to all the staff, Barrie & Julie

Had afternoon tea at this delightful country house. Hard to believe it's about 5 minutes from henbury and the mall. Apart from the hum from the nearby motorway, and that isn't loud, you would think you were out in the country. Went there for wedding anniversary afternoon tea after seeing the advert on the net. We had booked so were shown to our table straight away. Staff were excellent, there when you wanted them but otherwise unobtrusive and extremely courteous and helpful. Afternoon tea was lovely. All freshly made with finger sandwiches, warm scones and moreish mini cakes. Pots of tea were replaced as often as you wanted. Highly recommended BUT drinks prices a bit outrageous!! £15 for two glasses of prosecco!!! That aside, I would go again.

First class, individual service from the time we arrived. We enjoyed a drink and some nibbles in the lounge then went through to the beautiful dining room for our dinner. We both had three courses, as well as the most delicious homemade bread and amuse bouche with compliments of the chef. Extensive wine menu but relatively small food menu, which I quite like because otherwise we spend too long choosing! One downside was it seemed very quiet- we were the only people in the dining room! However that meant the service was impeccable! Would highly recommend for a romantic meal for two or a special occasion.

Me and the missus took my mum here for afternoon tea recently. We all came away disappointed.Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, but our experience didn't live up to expectations or the price tag. For £17 each we got 4 thin slices of rather tasteless sandwiches, which together amounted to a very small sandwich, some small, dry scones and some little desserts. I have to admit the black forest gateau dessert was very nice, but the rest of it was instantly forgettable.Service initially was good, but after we finished eating our dirty plates were left on the table for at least half an hour. I asked for them to be cleared. A few minutes later a member of staff cleared away half of them. Then left the rest. I had high hopes for this place, and was looking forward to going back and eating in the restaurant, but we won't be bothering to do that. If you fancy something like afternoon tea, I'd suggest looking to have it somewhere else.

We went for lunch on mothers day and was very happy. It is a lovely place and lunch was delicious. It wasn't over crowded and the atmosphere was lovely. My mum had a lovely time and that was what mattered. We did notice a lot of people saying how small the portions which was something we definitely did not agree with. After 3 courses we were very full! Not sure if maybe they have changed it or these people are VERY big eaters. But we were very happy with the portion size. Only thing we did say was that maybe the window panes could do with a lick of paint but not something that effected our lunch at all. Would highly recommend.

This is our second stay at Berwick lodge and our second amazing meal at Hattusa and we will undoubtedly be returning again. After reading the other reviews for this restaurant we felt compelled to write a review as feel the comments are completely unfair and do not do the staff or the outstanding head chef justice. The building is stunning, our room and bathroom was really luxurious and had a lovely terrace overlooking gardens and a water feature. We dined on Valentine's evening, the restaurant staff were all really friendly and helpful, service was impeccable we barely waited for 5 minutes before courses. The food was delicious AGAIN and as for people moaning about portion sizes we found it was more than enough and by far some of the best food weve ever had. The restaurant was definitely NOT cold we were pleased with every aspect of our stay including breakfast which is equally as delicious as evening meals. We will definitely be returning and encourage anyone planning a trip to Berwick lodge to take the time, like us,to leave a good review after a visit because the amount of petty, moaning reviews on here don't reflect how amazing this place really is.

Not the easiest place to find, it’s down a dark and bumpy single lane road so I don’t imagine they get too much in the way of passing trade. But then, it’s not that sort of place. If driving there is too much hassle, there is a helipad in the garden. Even when you’ve actually arrived much of it is in darkness, and we weren’t sure if we were going in the right way. Once you do get in though, it’s a lovely old building with woo d panelling, some impressive stone work and roaring fires. The restaurant is at the rear and looks as though it would have great views in daylight hours. The downside of all these high ceilings and large windows was that it was distinctly chilly in there, which is not ideal when you’re sat down for a leisurely meal. It’s a shame that the fire in the dining room was not lit.Staff were all friendly and helpful, and left us to peruse the menu. It’s fairly succinct, without about five options per course, so perhaps not the best place to come if you’re a fussy eater. A number of amuse-bouches were served including a terrine of some description and some smoked duck as well as the usual accompaniments of bread, olives and some cheese straws. A pre-dessert was also served. I went for the smoked haddock and leek to start which came with a charred leek puree and butter sauce. It was tasty enough, but perhaps not as much as I had been expecting, and it was really quite a small portion for £11. A “Ploughman’s” consisting of cured pork tenderloin, scotch egg, rarebit and pickled onion was well received though. Main courses were Halibut served with butter roasted tronche, spiced lentils, seared cucumber, yoghurt puree and crispy cardamom onions. The lentils and the cardamom onions were very good indeed, although the fish was not filleted which was a little disappointing. We were warned about this when we were served, but not when we ordered. I was going to go for the cranberry, almond and Tunworth tart for pudding, but besides the cheese the waiter warned me that it also had caramelised onions in it, so wasn’t to everyone’s taste. Consequently I went for the apple and beetroot (what is it with this chef and vegetables in the pudding?) which was quite pleasant, although again, on the small side and not quite perhaps as tasty as I had anticipated.Overall, I enjoyed our visit here and the food is clearly of top quality. Personally though, I found that it perhaps wasn’t quite too my taste, although that is of course very much personal preference.

After a very friendly greeting went into the lounge for a pre dinner drink. The building is old and atmospheric, but despite the open fires it was also cold, particularly in the restaurant. We both chose from the a la carte menu, and the food was ok, particularly the halibut which was excellent. Portions are not huge but adequate, but really cannot say you get value for money as prices are high. On the topic of price, the wine list is very extensive and very very expensive. We found this surprising as even in top class London restaurants there are always a good selection of more affordable wines, and a house wine.Although the restaurant was quite busy there was not a "buzz" about the place, very little atmosphere. Maybe it would be better if you were in a group rather than a couple. To sum up, surroundings nice, staff very good, food ok, wine overpriced. Lots of other places I would go to rather than revisit.

Went for a birthday meal with my husband. Was emailed the tasting and a al carte menu beforehand. On the night the tasting menu was not available. We had olives and cheese straws to nibble, then an amuse bouche (one mouthful - to be expected and very nice) with a thickish slice of bread. Thankfully, I ate all the bread as the starter and main course would have fitted onto a tablespoon. My starter was duck liver - delicious but tiny portions. My main course was swede and goat's cheese cannelloni, truffle honey, pickled swede and cabbage salsa. The cannelloni (single) was about an inch long with a squidge of goat's cheese inside and was eventually found under some not-needed watercress. There were thin slices of the other items and a small smear of cabbage salsa. I normally don't eat much being quite a small person but this was ridiculous. These courses would have been OK as part of a tasting menu but I expected far more of a main course. The plate was very hot but the food cold. Pre-dessert we were given a teaspoon-sized portion of pear sorbet with a sprinkling of crushed peanuts. We had cheese for dessert, hoping to fill ourselves up, but we had to ask for the "crisp toasts" to go with it. These seemed to be out of a packet and were dry and hard.We then had coffee with some sweets. The restaurant is lovely though could have been warmer, the table linen is immaculate, the service is friendly though slightly lacking the professionalism one would expect. There were a lot of little extras but the three a la carte courses need to be a lot larger to be worth the £100+ bill for two. Sadly, won't be returning.

We stayed at Berwick Lodge last night, 10 january, and dined in the Hattusa restaurant, we had the Tasting menu, 8 courses I think! but canapes and petit fours made it 10!!My wife is a fussy eater and i was worried she would not manage all the food, but we both ate every course! without feeling we had overeaten, from the pre dinner drinks to coffee in the lounge the service could not be faulted, the waitress explained every dish, John the sommelier had useful information on each wine that accompined the courses as part of the wine flight, well worth the price, as we tried wines we would not usually order, and will try again at home, maybe not the sweeter wines, but they went well with the accompaning food.Paul O' Neill the talented headchef, visited the dining room to discuss the food with us and other diners he was very relaxed and knowledgeable and clearly thrives in this environment, and seems to be held in high regard by the dining room staff. Thanks to Sarah and Paul

We visited here for afternoon tea on a Sunday. Lovely place with a beautiful dining room and grounds. Clean and very well kept. The afternoon tea itself was delicious, fresh sandwiches and yummy cakes. However we felt like a bit of an afterthought. We had booked but they seemed surprised to see us. The general feeling was that we were a bit of an inconvenience. They were clearing up from a wedding the previous day and setting up for their evening sitting. A waitress was busy ironing table cloths on adjacent tables! There was no conversation between ourselves and the people who worked there, you couldn't say they were unfriendly but there is no way you would say that they were welcoming. Such a shame because its a lovely place with so much to offer, it wouldn't be hard to be a bit more friendly and inviting to guests. Enjoyed it but wouldn't return.

I had my baby shower here, we had afternoon tea and there were 24 of us. We each paid £17 and were on tables of 8/9 people, when they bought in the afternoon tea, there was one small tray stand per table. The scones were not fresh, as i was pregnant I asked for no smoked salmon sandwiches, but I wasn't offered a replacement. I originally asked (when booking the room) for decaf tea, which was agreed by the events organiser, on the day there was only normal tea. When I wrote to the manager listing all the issues, i received an email reply saying how disappointed she was with my feedback as the staff thought I was happy. The staff never asked if I was happy with everything and after the afternoon tea was served the staff vanished! The overall experience was awful and completely ruined my baby shower. I would never recommend this venue to anyone again!

Met up with old friends in the luxurious, characterful surroundings of Berwick Lodge and throughout the day were impressed by really helpful, friendly staff and delicious food: coffee (even cappuccino!) and freshly-baked biscuits then a bar meal of excellent soup, selection of charcuterie, lovely puds. Rest of menu looked good: interesting sarnies & more. A table was instantly set for us when asked if it might be possible - nothing was too much trouble. Fresh flowers on tables and glowing candles throughout, surprisingly nice even on a sunny day! Good clean loos with L'Occitane toiletries. Grounds to wander in with interesting summer houses, ornate fountains and statuary, kids' playhouse and even an adult-sized swing! Afternoon tea looked delicious but time and appetite restricted us to just a cuppa - could have been a tad hotter, but nicely served in attractive china with silver tea strainer! Website PDF directions excellent - sounds complicated but straightforward it you follow them exactly. Would definitely return at any opportunity! Christmas brochure looks tempting....

Sorry this can’t be a short review... so much to sayWe very recently had our wedding at Berwick Lodge and we were so glad we decided to. Right from the first time we went to look around we knew instantly that this was the place for us. The first meeting we had set the tone for the whole process...Friendly and personal. We had our whole day here, ceremony at midday in the mews building which we had full creative control over decoration. It doesn't really need much as it very nice as is ,but still nice to put your own touch on it. We had 50 guests but there was plenty of room for lots more. After the ceremony we moved over to the main building for ‘bubbles’ (the type, vintage and grape all your choice....and there is lots of it) and photos. The grounds in my opinion are stunning with old architecture mixed with modern art (all for sale) set in a traditional Victorian style garden. This offered us an incredible back drop for our pictures. No matter what angle a picture was taken, the backdrop looked great. We then moved in to the dining room for our Wedding Breakfast. We met the Chef in advance who created a 3 course bespoke menu for us and catered for all of our guest dietary needs individually including some on the day fussy eaters! One of the main reasons we booked Berwick was for the reputation it has for fine dining and it didn't let us down. The food, confirmed by many of our guests was not only the best Wedding breakfast they have ever eaten but probably the best meal they have ever eaten. I have had the privilege of dining in some of the top restaurants in London and this place without a doubt is up there with the best. The creativity, flavours , colours and overall presentation was floor-less, repeated 50 times! Many many thanks and sincere compliments to the Chef and his team. All this great food is eaten in an opulent dining room that speaks for itself with fine furniture, table ware, and very professional and personable staff. Also worth noting we did opt for the house wines for the meal but many of our ‘wine buff’ friends were very complementary which was great. They were also very impressed with extensive the wine list! After dinner we retired to our room for an hour which was the icing on the cake. We stayed in the Lydia suite and like the restaurant it was of the highest standard and easily the most luxurious hotel room I/we have ever stayed in. Roll top bath, huge shower, robes, emperor bed, selection of herbal teas and nice filter coffee and more pillows than we knew what to do with!We then had our evening party back in the mews building which the staff had turned around with some tables and lots of candles and looked just how we wanted it to. We then proceeded to dance the night away with our friends and Family. Also because of the location (in the middle of nowhere) we got to really get the music going! The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced and a buffet that was devoured! We just want to say a huge thank you to all of the staff involved in making our day the happiest day of lives and giving us all memories we will keep for life. Keep up the amazing work and look forward to dining with you for many years to come and hopefully one day see that Michelin star next to your 5 AA stars as you certainly deserve it. You should be so proud of what you have created. PS – If you’re not getting married, just go for afternoon tea or an evening meal just so you can enjoy the surroundings. If you like fine things in life.... this is the place in Bristol to go.

A bit tricky to get to but once here it's in a lovely setting. The house has lots of character and charm. We were looking forward to our little outing but I must admit that it all turned out to be disappointing. The coffee machine was apparently not working so one of us ended up with weak coffee instead of a cappuccino. The sandwiches comprised of four fingers, each with a different filling. There were 2scones each with jam and clotted cream, but they sadly had a bitter aftertaste. After sending them back, which we were advised there was too much bicarbonate of soda in them. We were told that there would be a discount because of the scones but not offered a replacement of additional sandwiches or cakes. The cakes comprised of a filled macaroon, mini chocolate tartlet, a piece of almond slice and a small piece of banana bread. All ok, but nothing special. We were given a small discount for the scones, but considering they comprise a large part of the afternoon tea experience, I thought £3 discount per head was a bit mean. I didn't say anything as one of my lovely friends had paid for it and I didn't want to embarrass her. I won't be returning back for afternoon tea again in a hurry. Have had much better elsewhere.
