Oh dear how very disappointing! Unfriendly staff had to ask for the table to be cleaned twice! As stated before over priced small plates of food. Will not be back & certainly wouldn’t recommend.

Ordered Le Club (allegedly a club sandwich £13.95) and was given an egg mayonnaise filled sandwich with one small cold piece of bacon with white rind and a slice of tomato. In search of the stated chicken I eventually unearthed two minute cubes hidden in the egg mayo. I left the two cold pieces of toast. Sparkling water came in their own opened, unbranded bottle and cost £4.50. Also litter on floor which could easily have been cleaned up. This place used to be good, but we will never return.

Went there for lunch. The staff are clearly too inexperienced and young: not friendly nor knowledgeable about their own food! Food was not really good, not well presented and we were both sick at night. Will never return

We stopped in for lunch, decor was nice, food was OK but nothing special. We were seated between the Bar and the billing station/ cutlery drawer which didn’t create a nice atmosphere. We could hear all the conversations behind the counter and were surrounded by loud clanging, either from the bar or the cutlery. Terrible layout for creating a cosy atmosphere. The unisex toilet, as a female trying to use it, was gross. Overall it was OK but we wouldn’t go back.

We have eaten breakfast here a few times now and we wouldn’t go anywhere else in St Andrews. Being vegetarian it is sometimes difficult to get a decent veggie breakfast - that was until we ate here! The breakfast choice is excellent. The restaurant itself is spotlessly clean and the food is beautifully served by very courteous, helpful staff.

Stopped for Sunday breakfast. Sat next to kitchen so could feel the stress coming from the staff as it began to get busier. Food was good, coffees a bit on the small side. Main grumble was the 10% service charge.

I have been here twice now for brunch and both times I have got the waffles and they are the nicest waffles I have ever had. The cheese toastie is also unbelievable. It is also a very pleasant atmosphere to sit in. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely brunch spot.

Great coffee, slightly overpriced. Comfortable, cosy and nice place to stop in on a wet afternoon. Don’t agree with the 10% service charge added with no notice. Close to 10 quid for two coffees with service charge is taking the mick. I’m sure we could have asked for the service charge to be removed, but who does!! Fed up with the American-esque side charge that seems to be creeping in and won’t be back as a result. Wasn’t surprised to read this place is an extension of the Adamson.

This was our second visit to Hatch for breakfast. The restaurant is really fresh and modern inside and a very pleasant place to eat. The staff are all extremely polite, friendly and service was excellent both times. The food and coffee we had was delicious and seemed reasonably priced for the quality. The reason I have given only 3 stars is because of the ridiculous booking process. I went to book a table for our 2nd visit as it had been quite busy the 1st time. I completed the online booking form and was then informed a deposit was required. £10 PER PERSON. £40 deposit for a family of 4 to book a table for breakfast. Our total bill was less than that on our 1st visit. Utterly ridiculous. It almost put us off going. It seems to be a recurring theme with the owners, as we booked dinner with their restaurant next door (The Adamson) and received an email which quite rudely informs you that a charge of £30 per person will be put on your card if you don’t show up. I get that this must be frustrating for restaurants, but this response is way over the top and takes away from the overall experience.

My Mum and myself decided to try out Hatch one Saturday in August this year, for brunch. Things went wrong right from the start. We waited a long while to have our order taken and had to grab the attention of the waitress after becoming frustrated. The problem was that there is a large outside area at Hatch (much of St Andrews South Street has been taken up by outside eating areas which has diminished vastly the number of parking spaces...lots of these spaces are empty...) which the waitresses seem to focus on more than the inside space. Why not make sure you have enough staff on to provide a good service if you have that level of seating space? Our order was taken but we then had to ask for water etc. The order took absolutely ages to arrive - obviously understaffed in the kitchen too - but the dish that my Mum had ordered wrong. The reaction to this was very good with the waitress offering to provide the correct dish and 'overheard' actually cooking it herself after the chef complained. Anyway once the food all arrived it was simply average and not really what we had expected at all. It was cafe level fare really and overpriced. We had thought Hatch would be a bit more upper end. We weren't offered any discount or a free pot of tea or coffee which was annoying so we left vowing never to return. A poor experience overall.

Was into 'Hatch' some time ago but had to wait till I next visited St Andrews to get the name of the establishment as there were no details of any kind on the food receipt. Yes, the food was ok so no grumbles there but I certainly do have with the billing. Although it did not register at the time a 10% service charge was added, then on top of that a further 10% was added for a local foodbank. I must point out in the strongest of terms I saw no mention of a service charge on the menu and then to have the cheek to add another 10% for a foodbank without even asking is totally out of order. This by no means states I have an issue with giving those facing harder times but I do expect to see clear menus and be asked if I wish to donate. I will not be back to 'Hatch'. I also noted as we departed the couple at the neighbouring table also had issue with their billing.

I watched my food sit in the pass for 15 mins before I went and asked if I could just have it please When I got my food, the toast was cold When I got my replacement toast, there was no butter and ilnobody ever bought me any I would have loved to have ordered a 2nd drink but nobody came even close to my table Then I had to wait to pay and get out of there Very disappointing I know you are busy, everyone is busy and being busy is not an excuse for terrible service and cold food The only reason I ate it was because by the time it came, I was so hungry. I for one will definitely not return

Agreeable restaurant with outdoors seating on St Andrew’s gracious, leafy main drag. We had coffee, a Peroni, an eggs benedict and a delicious bacon roll. But more substantial meals are available. Friendly service.

Lovely wee cafe with a wide selection of drinks, breakfast and lunch offerings. We stopped in for a coffee and fruit scone (with jam and cream). Flat white was amazing and scones were warm and soft. Great pit stop to fuel our day.

We’d only just had breakfast and stopped here for a coffee. It was really busy inside and out (the photo I have posted was early on another morning before they had opened). Once we saw someone else having a fish finger sandwich we had to order one! It was amazing!! All the staff were really friendly and we’d definitely have gone back if we’d been in St Andrews for longer. Open from 9 for breakfast and to hire out - when we walked past at night (it shuts at 5) there was a hen party in there. Enjoy!!

We stayed for one night after Xmas shopping at the Clark’s village in Street. This lovely Inn with rooms is only 5 miles away. The welcome and check in from the lady at the desk were fantastic. She was naturally polite and helpful, not put on at all. Our room was very clean and spacious with everything we needed and lots of hot water for a relaxing bath. Homemade cookies were a nice touch too. We ate in the pub and can also say that this was a lovely experience with great food and a roaring fire. All staff were very friendly and provided fantastic service. Breakfast the next morning was also great with locally sourced ingredients. We will return, Thank you.

My wife and I both have Shepton connections but had never been to the cafe before. Having g recently retired, we called in for a toasty and a sandwich. The food selection is brilliant, prices really reasonable (no £8 sandwiches here), and the staff really friendly. Sadly, the cafe is up for sale but we really hope to get the chance to return before it closes or goes upmarket.

The refurb of this place is of a very high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food lets it down. Primarily, if you don't like burgers or fish and chips, find somewhere else. I visited with a friend and although my fish and chips were good, my friends meal was first served on completely cold vegetables. On pointing this out to the waiting staff, she offered a replacement which, we expected would be a plated meal with hot food. Unfortunately it was delivered as a pile of veg and potatoes thrown together in a tin dish. Not ideal and a real disappointment. Probably would not visit again.
