Visited this chippy recently Why is that the closer you get to the sea that the portions ( especially the fish ) get smaller. This takeaway is definately not value for money and is not in the same league as Ben's Place which is worth the walk up.the hill to the Barbican area of Looe

Had a quick sausage and chip snack from here at the weekend. The service was very quick, while tourists complained about the wait in the other chip shop across the road. The chips were as you'd expect, comparable prices to anywhere else in town and friendly service. The only downside is that they only accept cash, which means it's not always the easiest option.

Paul & Liz provide a brilliant service and excellent fish and chips. Always polite. I object to outsider comments. We live here and enjoy there service . If in doubt go home !!!

I'm a local in Looe and regularly go to Harveys for fish and chips. WON'T be going there again! I had to queue outside for 40 minutes, whilst it was still open. I finally reached the front of the queue to be told it was closed. They saw people standing outside so why not pop out and tell everyone they are shutting! Why let people queue for such a long time to not get served at the end of it! Absolutely ridiculous. I won't be using Harveys again and will definitely stop recommending it people when they ask for a locals opinion.

Lovely fish and chips, small cod and chips were the perfect size, chips and batter were both crispy and lovely white fish. Unlike other reviews I found the staff to be pleasant

Weird women working in there with a terrible attitude that thinks she’s hilarious and witty, when she’s in reality an absolute idiotic moron. She clearly has an issue with all tourists that come and visit this place as if they are not a regular she seems to be rude to people. Looking at the majority of the negative comments on here it looks as though they are mainly about her and her attitude. Didn’t end up purchasing from this place after asking a basic question and getting a snotty reply from this old bat. Took my custom elsewhere and I recommend others do the same. I hope somebody eggs her soon.

Don’t go there! Horrible customer service, the man even swore from out the back. Keep away from it, both locals and holiday makers!

Yet another perfect fish and chips hot and cooked to order,the best I’ve had for a very long time couldn’t fault .

Late afternoon, thought I would pop in for some chips for myself and hubby to share. Stood in the queue; 3 people before me were waiting as they stood back. So I just stayed there and at no time was acknowledged. The man frying didn't even make eye contact and the woman serving, looked at me several times without a glimmer of acknowledgement. She was busy wrapping an order. After about 10 mins she eventually looked me in the eye and asked if I wanted fish. I told her I just wanted chips. She said, well, she had a big order and there would be a wait! I had already waited! And I only wanted some chips. So I said I would leave it. Thanks. Terrible service. No idea of how to juggle orders. Customer satisfaction will. Don't bother. Plenty more fish in the sea in Looe! Silly people. And as we are on the brink of the Coronavirus peaking, surely customers are more important than ever. If they go bust, well, that would be just desserts. I can't understand why I wasn't acknowledged and then told I had a long wait because of prior large order. Surely, 2 minutes to serve up some chips? Keep the queue down and filter the orders.

Didn’t stay to try the food as they were just too rude. Very long queue fine, don’t mind waiting but, for them to then serve someone they knew who was at the back of the queue before the people at the front was just totally unacceptable. Would never go and would never recommend. Really need to learn some customer service. Went to The Catch instead, best Fish & Chips and service.

Perhaps if the dragon serving had any inkling of how to interact with customers, then perhaps this shop wouldn't be empty. Top Tip - go to Kelly's opposite, well worth the short wait - perhaps the queues for Kelly's says it all!

Do not like being ignored by staff and then have someone who arrived after me being served before me. To be told "they are regulars" just makes me even more angry. Left without placing an order and will not go back.

Some interesting reviews on here. If you are reasonably polite you will get an efficient and polite service in return. The fish and chips are nicely cooked and nicely presented. The staff are human. Been using this chippy for decades and will continue to do so.

You have to take this place as it comes. There is no sign saying Harvey's - just a fish emblem. And if you get a short answer from the lady who runs it that's because you've forgotten to say please or thank you! She takes no prisoners, but she has a superb memory for customers, and prevents any rowdiness or queue jumping. Don't mistake the stern look for being unfriendly. Fish is top quality - way better than most of the competition - and freshly cooked for each customer. The batter is superbly crispy, and the chips ideal - soft in the centre and crisp at the margins. No stale oil taste.No frills whatever - just top quality fish and chips time and time again. Price is good for the quality. Can't beat it.

My mum got fish and chips here a few times, I went in this time to order a birthday tea, mum warned me the lady and man were awful, not happy people, not polite, just misrable and rude. and she was right, I have never met such unhappy, miserable people in all my life.. Fish was over cooked yet again, not eating from here again, I'm going back to kellys.being friendly and nice to customers, costs nothing, I was shaking when I came out, thay made you feel uncomfortable, and unwelcome. no wonder there having a bad summer!!!!.

I visited Looe with my partner and his family as a holiday and what do you do when you’re by the sea - eat fish and chips! However this fish and chip experience was awful!Awful food and awful customer service!My partner and I went into the shop to purchase fish and chips and were greeted by an awful monster of a women, I believe she was the owners wife, she couldn’t crack a smile if she was paid to, she had no knowledge of customer service and she was just plain rude.Upon dealing with her disgusting behaviour we still ordered our food however she got that wrong and it turned out to be as disgusting as the lady that served us.A few days later we bumped into the owner in the street, we politely mentioned to him that we were very rudely spoken to and were treated in a fowl manner and the owner then proceeded to swear, shout and clench his fists at us, vile little man he was.I cannot for one second understand how their business is still running with the way they treat their customers! I will never step foot in that chip shop ever again!

Can't see any Signs of the name Harvey's. Perhaps a re brand. With only a sign of a fish on the wall above the door.

We ordered an easy request, we left the shop and opened our chips to find one was a plain chips when we had requested a cheesy chips and a small sausage. When we went back to address the issue we were accused of taking off all the cheese and eating the sausage within the 5 minutes we had the chips! Awful service and very rude staff! Will not be visiting anytime soon!

Absolutely disgusting customer service, the young girl was nothing but rude when I asked her to read the order back as it seemed wrong, she then couldn't grasp the fact she had added an extra sausage to the bill, I asked her politely to calm her tone with me, to which she actually told me to piss off, the man cooking was not much better with his attitude! No wonder the place is always empty!

We went to the Harvey's fish and chip shop and tried to order a family's worth of fish and chips. As you know it takes a while for kids to decide what they want, I gave the order and the lady rolled her eyes like it was a massive inconvenience. So I pulled the whole family out of the shop and said forget it, I'm not putting up with attitude like that.

The lady behind the counter was far from helpful...seemed like the last thing she wanted to be doing was serving me and my children.

Tenía pescado y patatas fritas de aquí ayer, el pescado estaba muy delgadas y planas. El bateador era asquerosa, marrón, más hecho y pasta no lo suficientemente gruesas. Las fichas no eran en absoluto agradable y cubierto de 'pimienta como polvo" de la sucios de aceite eran obviamente usando. La verdad es que no puedo encontrar ningún positivo y no recomiendo además fue £7 + sólo pescado y patatas fritas! ! !

Este es un pescado tradicional y chips con ninguno de los lujos que puedes encontrar en modernas chippies. Eso es lo que lo hace tan buen pescado cocinado a la orden y patatas fritas adecuado que parece que he sido fritos y bañados en coloración no sólo amarilla. Sencillo, sabroso y de buena relación calidad-precio

Probamos todo el pescado y las tiendas chip en Looe y para ser honesto todo bonito!

We used this place twice for takeaways in our one week visit in November. Four cod, chips and mushy peas on two evenings when we did not fancy cooking at our rented house. Very few other bodies on the street or in the shop so you would think the owners (husband and wife?) would welcome the business. No, the reality was different.The food was cooked to order and proved to be very good. But, oh the service .......I don't expect the staff (owners?) to do a jig when customers come along and spend their money but a little warm behaviour would be nice. The lady taking orders and serving the food was cold and unfriendly, not even saying "evening" or "goodbye." A little smile was obviously not on the menu. When I asked if they sold bottles of vinegar (this is a fish & chip shop) she just replied "no." Luckily enough another customer suggested I went to the local Co-Op shop about 10 yards away where, of course, they did stock the precious condiment. Saved the day!And as for the man doing the frying; I think he was a robot going through the motions. On neither occasion did I hear him utter a word to anybody. No reply when I said "that looks a nice piece of fish" as he battered it; not even a glance at me in recognition of the comment. I will be kind and suggest both people had come through a busy summer serving copious amounts of cod, chips and mushy peas and had now turned off their charm and warmth for the winter.So in summary; fish, chips and mushy peas hot and tasty; service cold and miserable.

First I was told that the fish would take five minutes to cook. I was sitting for fifteen minutes. The people working there seemed to be on another planet and completely out of it. The lady serving can barely crack a smile. But on a more positive note I did find that the place was very clean but it's just the atmosphere. There is a small place where people can sit but it is very uncomfortable. The food was good but I found the service to be poor. And I understand that the task it to serve food and not be friendly byt good manners cost nothing. If the fish is going to take ten minutes to cook then say that it's going to take ten minutes to cook. Don't outright lie. I could have had a cup of tea across the road by the amount of time I was waiting and I was honestly thinking about going to Kelly's opposite.

Ideal for a night time snack on your way home. Good servings, not expensive. Ideally situated by the car park. Friendly staff.

many years we came down to Cornwall and called in to this chippy.we loved it .Now i can tell you I will not go in again. On asking if they would be open later I was meet with a very unfriendly reply from a women who does not have any people skills .Running a business like this requires a little bit of pleasantness. I did not get any food nor will I ever again nor recommend any one else to .

We've eaten several times here and never had a bad experience. Good portions, crispy, tasty batter and tasty chips. Fresh tasting, local caught fish. Wonderful.

Fresh fish landed 100 meters away and cooked while you wait. What more could you want? Potatoes cut into chips. Lovely! I compare all fish and chips meals I have to Harveys,its the best I have found so far.

We only bought portions of chips which we took to the beach with us in the evenings but I must say that after trying chips from other places in Looe, these were definitely the best chips we had all week.

Crispy, thin batter. Massive pieces of fish, lovely chips and cooked to order. Tried a few other places but this was by far the best, reasonably priced too and lovely people serving.

I can't visit a seaside resort without having Fish & Chips, so as a regular UK traveller I've had a fair few in my time. I think the cod & chips I had at Harvey's this week may well have been the best I've encountered anywhere. The cod was cooked to order, and was fresh, large, firm and in a beautifully crisp batter. And the chips were well-cooked and not greasy. As the weather was changeable and it was getting late, we were allowed to sit inside with our dog to eat them - and the dog was well pleased to be given a left over sausage at closing time! Highly recommended.

Had fish and chips here sorry but very disappointed not very nice at all. Very greasy fish and tastless chips.Would not go again! Sorry:(

When ever myself and my wife go to Looe we always go to Harveys fish and chips.There are lots of eating places in Looe, lots of fish and chip shops in Looe. We have tried them all. These are the best. You won't be disappointed. They use the best batter. The 'staff' have not changed in almost 20 years. They know what they are doing.

Had a takeaway on Sunday night as we were in a rush to get home. Food was cooked fresh to order and fish was lovely. Takeaway portions were very generous and 2 x fish and 1 large chips fed myself, my 15 yr old and 6yr old daughters who are both good eaters.Definitely recommend.

Had cod and chips from here got to say 100% the best ever fresh boneless and skinless cod and crispy chips definitely recommend will eat here again on my next visit

Had large fish and chips and my word it was a good portion. The fish was cooked fresh so it was piping hot and crispy batter to, first time we had fish and chips in Looe it will not be the last now brilliant.

For 6,60 quid I got a fresh, very well fried, boneless cod as big as my forearm, and rest of the take-out box packed with superb crispy chips.Definitely a highlight of my visit in Looe.
