Harvey's Fish and Chips in The Vale of Glamorgan

I recently went to Harvey's fish shop for some food, I was excited as I've never been before. A young girl served me but was very unconfident and I was disappointed with the service. Unfortunately, when I arrived home, to my surprise I found a long dark hair in my chips and was appalled as this has never happened to me before. Because of this it was my first time in Harvey's and definitely my last.

Amazing! All cooked fresh, large portions and a very warm welcome. Worth buying from this shop and driving down to the beach to enjoy rather then spending a fortune on sea front bars.

Very disappointed with this food. When I got home opened the chips and they had been recooked. You don’t refry chips and sell them to customers. Won’t be going here again! Look at the state of them, eat my pie, chips straight in the bin!

Recently popped in to Harvey’s chip shop , for gravy and chips. It was a generous portion with decent size chips (not the bits) and lovely gravy. Thoroughly recommend. Will visit again.

The shop is not as bright or busy as most and the range isn't filled with food. But don't judge a book by it's cover. The food was on par with Irene's Fish and Chip shop up the road for a lot less money. The batter was nice and the fish was okay. I felt like I got my monies worth which many fish shops I don't feel that way these days. Usually small portions for a lot of cash. But Harvey's was different. At Harvey's you get good portions for equally a good price. See my photos and make your own mind up. But give it a shot. My only criticism would be the curry was a little too watery but that can be improved easily. Thank you for the food and keep the prices the same!

Best fish and chip shop i have ever been to i would recommend.

Unique (andblegendary!) fish and chip shop I've been going to for 50+ years (with a big gap in the middle). I only have veggy options nowadays, but my dad enjoys the fish. Very friendly, all cooked fresh before your eyes. The walking weatherman, Derek Brockway's favourite chippy. It's 5 star rayed by the council too.

Tried this chip shop tonight for the first time and we were not disappointed! After 16 months of living in South Wales we have FINALLY found a great chippy! They are cash only, so we had to dash to a convenience store to use a cashpoint. Really good service from a very friendly chatty man who I believe was the owner. We ordered cod and chips and it was perfect! The batter was light and crispy, perfectly cooked and the fish was delicious. Chips were also delicious and perfectly cooked, not greasy, just right. Generous portions. Cooked fresh while you wait, but not too long a wait at all. Very reasonably priced compared to other places. Cannot recommend this place enough. We will most definitely be back, just sorry it took so long to find them.

Walking down Barry was miserable to say the least. Until... I came across "Harvey's Fish & Chippy". A hidden gem that offers some of the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Popped in here at midday as I had a craving for fish and chips and the reviews looked favourable. I had the “senior lunch special “ cod and chips which was amazing value and great quality for the price. There was a short wait for the food as it was cooked fresh, but it was worth the short wait. The batter on the fish was extremely light and tasty, I will definitely return on my next visit to Barry.

Harvey’s is situated on a side street so tends to go unnoticed. I have live in Barry for nearly 20 years and have always used the more prominent chippies. One day I was unable to park and whist driving I passed Harvey’s and decided to call in. I wasn’t disappointed. The food was freshly cooked and the service friendly and efficient. I have been back several times since and not been disappointed. It is now my go to chip pie. If you are becoming a bit fed up of your usual chip shop give Harvey’s a try. You won’t regret it

Had fish and chips today and had to throw most of it away. The chips looked and tasted like they were a week old and the batter is still repeating on me 4 hours after eating it. I will definatley not be going here again as it has been like this for several weeks, this used to be a good chip shop but no more !

Despite moving away from Barry, I still make the pilgrimage to Harveys, it is simply the best chippy for miles around. The food is cooked fresh in front of you daily. The fish batter is lovely and light, not the thick stodge you get in some places. The service is friendly and efficient, and prices are reasonable too. This is your other Barry Gem.

HARVEYS FISH n CHIPS A real favourite of mine for more than 6 decades, yes for more than 60yrs this wonderful Chippy has provided a magnificent service to my friends and family. It is a very under rated Old World Fish n Chip Shop, cooked to order while you wait, but well worth the journey. Lovely service - the lady working the front is very friendly and the man in the kitchen gave me a jolly smile. £12 for 2 x cod and chips, curry sauce, mushy peas, and 2 x cans of pop. I forgot how good prices can be outside of London.

I live in Pentrebane, Cardiff and find the fish and chip shops around here are awful. Whenever I go to Barry to visit a relative I always go to Harvey's. The fish is always cooked while you wait and so is not left hanging around in the optics as they are in Cardiff. As a result the fish is always fresh and very nice (chips are too). In addition the staff are very friendly. Im getting on a bit and I recommend the 'Seniors Fish and Chips" - you don't have to throw away the chips that you can't eat. Not to be missed.

Given the vast amount of chip shops located in Barry, I feel Harvey’s often gets overlooked by its competitors. However, Harvey’s is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite chip shop in Barry. We went to Barry Island for a day out and by the time we came out of the arcades all the fish & chip shops were shut so we googled others that were nearby and found this one. The guy that served us was very friendly and welcoming, the portion sizes were good, the food was cooked fresh to order and delicious. If we ever happen to be visiting Barry again we will definitely be coming here for our food.

My only place for fish and chips ! Have been going to Harvey's for over 50 years now , always good food , staff polite and premises are 5 star rated for cleanliness. LOVE that it's still a traditional small business , no fast processes food thats cooked fresh often while you wait . Current owner is lovely , friendly and polite and knows all his regular customers. This is an excellent takeaway. Special prices for pensioners and if you order fish this is not cooked ahead and kept warm, always cooked fresh for you. The Cook is always for pleasant, helpful and friendly. If you wish you can have a curry sauce with your meal and of course there are many other options than chips, pies, sausages, chicken etc.

Still the best fish and chips west of Barry town. The owner is friendly and welcoming, and cooks his fish and chips to order.

Family has always bought fish und chips from here. On a visit to my hometown, my belly full of beer and my head unable to focus coherently, my brother and I set off on adventure through the dark lanes of Barry; dodging old discarded mattresses, a weathered trellis and some recycle bins, we soon arrived at Harvey's. We got haddock and chips. The guy behind the counter gave me a cheeky little complimentary fishcake. It was perfect because since the air hit me I was getting confused and the fishcake was sobering. When we got back to my brothers, we ate the haddock and chips. It was absolutely delicious. The only problem was that my brother and I had terrible wind because we'd had a heavy breakfast.

Excellent fish and chips. They supplied us with over 50 portions today for a Fish Lunch fundraising for Barry Dock Lifeboat. Would recommend them anytime 😊

Always brilliant fish and chips

Me, my sister and brother in law visited wales at Barry island and were hungry and so we googled nearest chippy and found this. It stays open all day which is a bonus Cus we wanted chips at 5pm. We ordered fish haddock and cod and chips. The portions were a good size and the food was freshly cooked in front of us. The owner also gave us 2 free curry sauce with our food. Definately would recommend this place.
