Harvey Nichols Forth Floor Restaurant in Edinburgh, City of

Went for Sunday brunch. Wrong dish served, the substitute contained different ingredients from what was on the menu. Pancakes tasted of bicarbonate soda.. Desserts menu requested, but never arrived. Staff were clearly not interested. Just asked for a bill and left. Such a shame, as a beautiful venue. Could have been so much better, if the owners & staff cared more about the customers.

The slowest service I experienced. It must be a miracle to make it with so many service people!

Great place for a catch up with friends..Went for a drink only, everything great just slight wait for drinks / rounds.

Absolutely lovely for a special dinner. Excellent food - I think the sauce on the haloumi main won the meal, and the creme brulee was a close second. My only criticism is that everything was quite salty. And not a fan of the French savignon blanc - should have gone the New Zealand one.

My daughter booked this as a gift, service was disgraceful, taken to our table but the left sitting at the table for around 30 minutes before someone eventually came over. They apologised for the delay and explained a mix up with their bookings today. Even then another 15 minutes before bringing anything. Ordered the same cup of coffee three times with tree different waiters before it came, they had all forgot to put it through the system. Eventually got up to find a waiter to take another order of soft drinks. So disappointed as not cheap and a gift but what a poor customer experience. I would not recommend and won’t return, even one star is indeed pushing it

Bit of a disappointment. Perhaps it was just an off day but there was a large black hair on the table and further hairs in the napkin Do not know if it was the food but was physically sick at night and can say the only food taken was the afternoon spread. As I say might have been an off day but still a bit disappointing

Tuvimos una comida encantadora en Harvey Nichols mientras estábamos en Edimburgo. Teníamos un vale para contribuir a la factura general de Navidad fuimos por el menú de invierno de 3 platos con bebida cosmopolita £ 35 por persona tuvimos un lado de tater tots y una Coca-Cola adicionalmente. Hay un 11. 5% de cargo por servicio discrecional que sabíamos al hacer la reserva y para ser honesto ahora los problemas aquí el personal no podía hacer lo suficiente para usted desde que llegó hasta cuando fue, personal muy muy atento.

Vistas increíbles y comida realmente genial. El ambiente era un poco deficiente - tiene un ambiente de cantina, pero en general un gran lugar para visitar.

We went yesterday and had a great meal. Atmosphere had a buzz, starters were top quality but most of all the service from a waitress called Gavina (sorry if misspelt ) was outstanding, she’s a real asset to Harvey Nichols

We ordered salmon and cucumber salad and when it arrived there was no cucumber and a plate full of carrots, the manager said they don’t have to cook what’s on the menu the chef can use anything he wants. Very rude manager never ever heard this before

Told us they were not serving anymore at approx 2:50pm although the website says they are open till late !!! So we thought we would try the Almondine instead , due to having no choice. Uncomfortable seating , deserts looked non appealing and there was minimal choice on offer . Then we were told they don’t even do cream with hot chocolate , basics ! Needless to say we didn’t stay which suited my 79 YO mum due to the seating issue . Why has HN given them space ! What a let down and doesn’t reflect well on HN surely ?

Absolutely delicious every time I come. Service is amazing, very attentive. We recommend this place to anyone who wants to come out for lunch. It is always consistently divine.

Excellent service, food, ambience. A little pricier than last visit - but that's true everywhere these days. And I think it's worth it.

Had an anniversary and asked for a table with a nice view, when was booking. We had a table next to a window and received a complimentary dessert with happy anniversary writing on a plate. Was very cute. The service was amazing and the food was very good. Nice cocktails. Definitely recommend.

Arrived shortly after opening at 10am and taken to a window table beside the bar. Efficient staff, although not over friendly. Excellent menu with a good selection. Prices reasonable and food was fresh and tasty.

This restaurant is a hidden gem the food ,drinks,and staff are all to be applauded simply fantastic . Thank you all and a Merry Christmas to a phenomenal team .xx

Many many first class visits on my own,with my wife .and/or relations,with friends and with work colleagues over many years since it opened...abfab comes to mind ...it's a wonderful place to be fit drinks or coffee, breakfast or brunch,lunch or afternoon tea or dinner and cocktails without a doubt the best location in Edinburgh for any or all that! Staff are amazing service and atmosphere and food just terrific ....get yourselves in there

My wife and I went here for an afternoon tea. Service was OK We were quizzed a few times about the deal we had, which left a sour taste. However, we had our coffees, nice chat in some comfy seats and waited on our tea. In short, the food was very poor. Salmon was nice, but the wrap was bone dry, along with the rest of the savoury snacks. The scone was also very dry and burnt. Sweets on top.....nah, pure sugar. All in all a massive disappointment. Would not recommend. Would not go back to again.

Popped into bar for a few drinks after shopping. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT !! It reminded me of a drs/dentist waiting room. A few couches & chairs & absolutely no atmosphere ! Waiter took forever to come with drinks menu & drinks took a while too. We were in London, Harvey Nics a few weeks ago & it’s a gorgeous place. Hence the reason we thought we would try Edinburgh. Never again, place is a dump !! Drinks are also more expensive than in the Ivy 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t waste your money going here !

My husband and I enjoyed an incredibly delicious meal, several glasses of prosceco, and a scrumptious dessert at this wonderful restaurant! The service was fabulous, as was the view overlooking Edinburgh and the castle. We are so happy that we booked this restaurant ahead of time! Thank you for making our meal so special and memorable.

For a department store bar, the views were solid. Drinks and service were only okay.

Lovely lunch while in Edinburgh! We were seated by the window to enjoy St. Andrew Square and Edinburgh castle in the distance. Friendly staff, delicious cocktails and a delicious meal!

Food was very delicious and the cocktail menu is expansive, great service and lovely ambiance. The tables aren’t too close together either.

Excellent find in the middle of the Festival. Outstanding service ,lovely scone and coffee ,amazing views and spotless toilets . A 10/10 experience in the chaos of the festival. Highly recommend.

Great views from the balcony, but service was very slow even though there were around 6 waiting staff lingering around the bar. The cocktails we ordered came relatively quickly, and were okay, but there was very little atmosphere for a Saturday night (the place had around 15 people in it). Not the Forth Floor Brasserie it once was.. Unless everyone was just at the Fringe!

Stopped for an impromptu lunch with my husband. Had a selection of starters and snacks so was more of a tapas style lunch. Very good food, nice menu, fresh and tasty. Friendly staff and decent service.

An easy 5 for me. Harvey Nichols makes a professional level effort. It really easy to see professional level staff providing excellent service. An informative briefing of the food and what to expect from the staff. The food itself is imaginative and well presented An afternoon tea made effortlessly with an eye for presentation served with nice table ware. Coffee on refills with an excellent view 'chucked in' for good measure. All-in-all a great experience. Thanks

We went to the cafe for just a light sweet treat and coffee and despite being on a Friday afternoon, the team were very accommodating to us!

Had ‘Brunch for One’ at the Harvey Nics Fourth Floor Brasserie and very glad I did! The Avocado & Halloumi Sourdough Toast was honestly one of the best I have eaten (and I may of eaten a few). I had an ‘Emily English’ Collagen Boost smoothie and an Earl Grey Tea too. All delicious and the service was excellent! When in Edinburgh I will definitely go back for more. 🤩

Where do I start, we came in to have some drinks for 3 people. They made us wait first for almost 10 minutes before being seated. We asked if we could sit outside on the balcony but were turned down with dishonest replies such as there's no tables and you can't have more than 2 outside, both of which were incorrect as there were plenty of free tables and groups of 4. Furthermore, the service was awful as the waiters didn't remotely look in our direction except one. Overall the experience was spoiled due to the attitude of the staff except one waitress who I think is called Grace, who was really kind and helpful.

We arrived about 2pm ish and got a table it was quite empty we were looking for the brunch style food which we’d had before and loved it. Unfortunately due to us being there on a Monday (17 June) and it being after 12 noon there was no brunch menu it had stopped - I asked the waitress if I could see the brunch menu and saw it had at least 4 things on it I’d choose she went off to see if the chefs would oblige as the other menu says everything is cooked fresh to order but she came back saying no - so we left! I read recently about the owner of Harvey Nichols having to put millions into his business- I’m not surprised as the staff are really letting the place down

We had a delightful afternoon tea here. The food was lovely and different from the usual afternoon tea food. We were given a table by the window with amazing views. The staff were excellent, so friendly and attentive. We would highly recommend to others looking for something a bit different.

Lovely spot with great views, the service was really proactive and helped with the decision of what to eat and drink. the only thing that let it down really was the selection of food and the atmosphere which was a bit cold. I probably wouldnt come again if I'm honest.

What an amazing gem hidden in plain site. Who would think to pass through a department store to have a delicious meal, excellent drinks and beautiful views of the city. But we did! My lamb was cooked wonderfully and my husband said the same thing about his fish. And the prices are not as I expected: 25 pounds for each of the meals.

We had reservations about the evening following poor reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. All 6 of us agreed it had been a good experience with excellent food and service.

Fabulous from booking to paying the bill! The team were so helpful and the food was sublime. Can't find fault anywhere! Lovely helpful and friendly servers too which always helps. Thank you to the whole team.

Chilled out environment with a few over the city

We stopped in for a quick cocktail on a recent visit to Edinburgh. The service was great. Lots of different cocktails to choose from. Reasonably priced, too. Great views across The Forth to Fife.

What a horrible place. The service was awful. Was seated and left there. Had to ask someone to take the order. Lots of staff but obviously no structure. Someone behind us was clearing a table and redressing it when a man, who I assumed was the manager, came up waving a receipt at this poor man,having a go at him about something. This poor man was red in the face and obviously embarrassed by this moron for humiliating him in public. I would NEVER step foot inside their establishment again. Waste of my time and money. I've had better service at a macdonalds!

Harvey's is very special. Much like the store, it exudes excellence with style. This filters upstairs with a delectable choice of everything. With proffessionalism there to advise on the beverage of perfection to compliment the food. There's bank balance sense there also. Its so worth a visit. Even for the Bonnie view on St Andrews Square Gardens.

Visited with Itison voucher , set menu . Food was excellent , let down with a portion of chips in a tea cup , for gods sake give us an extra tattie ! £5 charged for this , have a word with yourself . Shame to be talking about that as food was so good as was the service . Can never understand why restaurants let themselves down with trivial things . Got to dessert and menu had changed , strange , but was then offered anything off normal desert menu , so can’t complain . Have to say though it does feel like a cafe rather than a restaurant and because of that I don’t think I would return . Thanks to all .

Decided to visit the restaurant, first time as visiting Edinburgh. Were seated promptly and drinks order taken. This arrived quickly but every other table in restaurant were given a bottle of still water but we are still waiting to be offered water. Almost finished drinks and still waiting to be asked if we wanted any food, any further drinks or even given the actual water. Other tables even brought further bottles of water. Very disappointed and will not return. Service shocking.

Visited here on New Years Eve for breakfast as a family. The welcome was warm, the table had a lovely view and there was a good selection on the menu. The food was lovely as were the drinks. Service when trying to settle the bill was slow but overall I would recommend a visit and would certainly choose here over The Ivy, this is my new favourite.

How long does it take to make coffee. We waited 20 mins on 2 americanos. However the staff were quick to bring the bill. Not an experience we intend to repeat. Very disappointing

Booked the “festive” Christmas lunch with 3 friends, travelled from Newcastle and were really looking forward to it. Such a disappointment. The venue had the atmosphere of a canteen, not so much as a Christmas decoration or cracker on the table, staff were pleasant enough but obviously rushed off their feet. Our starters were fine but nothing special, but we all had the turkey main course. Turkey was very dry, garlic mash was instant and barely a hint of garlic, sprouts were virtually raw. Had to ask for more gravy as very little evidence of it on the meal. We did feedback to the waiter and were compensated with complimentary wine, but no one came to discuss the issues. Overall a very mediocre experience, would not recommend.

What lovely place, popped up to the 4th floor to Almondine, though I’d would trust myself to some fizz & a wee macaroon. Well once I could get the attention of the servers (took forever) the product was beautiful. I thought I would have 1 more for the road, when I eventually got the server to notice I wanted her. She automatically brought me the bill!!!!! No communication of any sort 🤦🏼‍♀️ they are both very young but have no personal skill ms at all. How many stars only 2, train your staff to be customer friendly and to have manners it’s not hard!

The location and view means this get a 3*, food would be a 2*. Food was very average for the price and service was slow. Very loud too! View is stunning however.

Had lunch here and can honestly say was not impressed!!!! Our parsnips were stone cold so asked waiter to replace them with hot ones came back 5 minutes later with soggy microwaved ones 🤢 Parmesan chips cold! Chicken and mushroom rice was hot and delicious but the rest just spoiled the whole dining experience and yet they have the cheek to add an 11.5% service charge 😡 won’t be rushing back 👎🏻

Poor service staff don't have a clue!!! Waited ages to be offered drinks which took ages to arrive. Four of us at table having three courses and at every course we were given wrong meal and had to swap them around ourselves. Just needed to ask if they couldn't remember who ordered what!! Serving staff looked like they'd been dragged in from McDonald's to help out. Food nothing outstanding. We were in the restaurant part which quite frankly looked like a works canteen. Definitely doesn't live up to its hype and better places to spend your money.

This was a disappointing dinner. This is not the place to go if you have any allergies (which we wrote to them when booking). Essentially no options for gluten free (not even any boiled potatoes). The ribeye was tough and medium quality at best. Very nice staff, but very poor food. I expected more quality.

First time here and looking forward to a family meal, what an absolute let down, absolute bland decor, no atmosphere, an hour between courses with the offering of a courtesy free drink and service charge removed without asking so the staff also knew how bad tonight was. When you go out you expect a better meal than at home but not the case tonight, only good thing about this place is the view over Edinburgh at night with its sparkling lights, if you like that!!, wry disappointed

Shocking service , ignored for 15 minutes whilst 6 bar staff standing doing nothing ! Waited a further 15 minutes for drinks, left without them. Much nicer places in Edinburgh for drinks with much more superior surroundings . I would avoid.

Great view over St.Andrews Square and beyond from the fourth floor. Nice to be able to see the Christmas lights in the square and the castle illuminated looked beautiful. The service was great and the food perfectly acceptable. We had the festive dinner at £38 per head. We had two G&Ts a bottle of the house red and a bottle of. Fizzy water and a pot of tea. 11.5% service brought the bill to £154. Not cheap, but a great location. One complaint, probably enough to prevent me going back was the rather loud pop music blasting out the whole time, worse still, it was on a loop and we had to sit through the dreadful procession of songs twice. I mentioned it to the waiter who agreed with me and that after a ten hour shift it drove him crazy. We were there two hours so I can sympathise. Still could have been worse, he told me that in December the Christmas songs would be the playlist! Yikes! I love music but I don’t like aggressive sounding pop music. I would have given a five star review but for this factor alone:

Would not recommend. Went for afternoon tea and found a hair in the middle of my mini quiche and to make the whole experience worse the two male waiters were rude, paid no attention to us and ignored us. There were two tables either side of us however who got the attention of the waiters. The food got a one because it’s the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had, if you want good food I would recommend Edinburgh castle (comes with the good service too)

Poor service, poor food and loud music made the visit not one to remember. Will be lunching elsewhere next time.

Had a lovely lunch in HN - we got a table at the window and the views were great . The staff were very pleasant and the service & food was very good. Some negative reviews on here but we really enjoyed it and would definitely come back .

Service was awful. Order taken for drinks and we waited over 20mins before calling for attention of waitress who informed me they don't have the drink I ordered. I would need to make another selection , I then waited another 10 mins for my drink. I only ordered mains and side that took 45 mins to come, the food was lovely. When the bill arrived the service charge was removed. It was more cafeteria, it was open and noisy, not a comfortable environment. definitely would not recommend

Spontaneous brunch. We didn’t book but they got us a table right at the window and the food and gin was lovely.

Booked for lunch. Food was good but not outstanding and same could have been said for service. Worth a visit but won't be hurrying back. Outstanding view meant it received 4 stars instead of 3

First visit here the views a lone are so worth it. Food & service excellent. Had an enjoyable relaxing time. So worth it & prices good too. Would recommend to everyone.

Unfortunately the experience started out bumpy. As I arrived and asked to be seated, the initial reaction of the host, who didn't seem to be too motivated, was that there were no tables available while vacant tables were in plain sight. When I looked surprised and questioned the response suddenly to be seated became possible. Despite the fact that a number of nice tables were readily available I was seated at the far end of the restaurant at a service door behind a pillar. Since my primary motivation to have lunch at HN was the location on the 4th floor and the view, this was obviously very disappointing. Shortly after being seated and putting in my order I asked one of the staff to move to a better small table and I was accommodated. The food was alright, not great and the service was a bit confusing as it felt I was being served by someone else for every item, but nevertheless the service was good, friendly and efficient. Not sure I would come back or recommended. Goes to show how one person can make or break an experience.

Tried with great difficulty to book a table. Even wrote to the e mail address three times without a reply. Had to go elsewhere for lunch though! Good coffee and snacks in the morning. Something missing though for a great name like Harvey Nichols.

Stopped by for coffee, tea and cake. Lovely welcome and seated in comfy sofa. Looked after by Kelvin who remembered us from previous visit. Great service and relaxed for a while. Great!

Enjoyed the breakfast of granola and then Eggs Royale, orange and coffee. Ate the previous morning at a certain other quality establishment in Edinburgh which cost slightly less but more food of slightly better quality. Service was ok. Also visited the Almondene bar next door to the 5th floor restaurant for champagne and coffee and cake. Nice but expensive compared to other establishments.

We have dined here twice in recent weeks, and on both occasions I found the service professional, attentive and generally to a high standard. The bar area has a great atmosphere and knowledgeable staff, my Vespar was fantastic. The views from the restaurant are outstanding and the seating comfortable. The soup was delicious and both the lamb dish and cod were cooked to perfection. It was also refreshing to have white wine served at the correct temperature.
