We booked last minute for lunch I was surprised we got a table as was a Sunday we have not been to the harvester for years as our last experience was awful at a different one but we thought we would give this one a try as was near by where we were well I’m not surprises it was empty the salad bar looked like it needed a good clean the food wasn’t even hot hot just warm and the size of the portions wasn’t very good my little boy had about 10 chips I had to give him half of mine and the prices they charge for what you get is shocking and the whole time we were there we had to watch the staff sitting around a big table doing there makeup I just feel like it makes it look quite unprofessional I don’t think we will be returning

Visited here for dinner this evening. The food was great, tasty and very filling. What made our evening was the awesome service from our waiter Alan G. Such a pleasant and friendly chap. My husband had ordered the ultimate mixed grill and Alan made sure he gave my husband encouragement to finish it all (it was a lot of food!) Although he was covering a few tables, he stopped to chat and was pleased to learn that my husband enjoyed steak as much as himself. (We recommended he visit a hotel in Mexico for a delicious tomahawk)We visit the Harvester occasionally and will definitely request to sit in Alan’s section on our next visit.

Easter Sunday...Having an evening meal we decided to have breakfast at the harvester. Should have known better! Having being seated the menus were put in front of us with no explanation. After some time a very polite waiter came to take our orders. We chose unlimited. We selected various items. We toasted our own bread. Fine. Made are drinks and the breakfast arrived.

stopped off here for a tea time meal, after a day out. Waited about 5 mins to be seated and sat near to the salad cart. ordered our drinks and meal and went to get salad, most of it available - loaded up and returned to our table to see our drinks had arrived. Not too long after our meals came, we both chose from the lunch menu, the steak hash which was really good, made a change from having chips as a side. We opted not to have dessert and paid the bill to Sam our waiter, who had been polite and helpful throughout our visit. Will return soon

We had just arrived in Essex for a family event. Due to delays not many places were open. This place happily sat us despite being close to closing and were more than happy to cater for all our needs. They even still have mostly fresh salad bar available even if running a little low on some options. Therefore the staff truly wonderful, fast and efficient.

I visited the Harvester this evening with my teenage sons. I had to leave my coat on as it was so cold in there. Waited ages to be even asked if we wanted drinks. Food arrived, one of the orders was wrong and had to go back, so we had finished by the time correct meal arrived. Food was extremely average. I think the Harvester has had its day! took advantage of the 50% off mains offer to herald the new menu. So glad we did, it was lovely! Haven't been to Harvester for a little while but this visit did not disappoint, excellent food, good service and full bellies at the end. I had the original combo which I haven't had for ages and it was delish, followed by a slice of lemon meringue pie equally yummy, our waiter was Sam and he was very polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. It was starting to get really busy by the time we were leaving and we were glad we had booked as people were having to wait for a table by then.

Went for Valentines as we couldn’t be bothered to go posh, and man was the service poor. No one was in the queue but it took them 10 min to take us to the table. Then another 29 min to offer drinks and that’s only because the lady I was with had to go get the staff. I could get better service in McDonald’s. What’s happened to this place, it used to be so much better than this. Won’t be coming back here in a hurry. Even the floor was dirty

Upon arrival we were asked if we would like to order drinks; we did so but had to wait 15 minutes for these to arrive. When our main courses arrived, one was incorrect. As time passed, the restaurant was nearly empty but no one at any time approached us to ask if we wanted any dessert or coffees. When someone eventually came to clear our plates away, (about 30 minutes after we finished our mains, about 9:30pm) I explained that no one had attempted to ask if we wanted desserts etc. His reply was “I think your server’s gone home.”

I've tried this place three or four times, not going again, the staff are over-stretched, the salad bar is always a mess, chicken always dry (I guess it's pre-cooked and kept warm or re-heated). Burgers are pitiful, everything's overcooked so all the flavour is gone. Best thing is the Nacho starter, that's about it.

Food, service and price great but the only thing to let the evening down was a glass partition that separated me from where they dumped the finished with dirty dishes that had been removed from other customers tables. A lot of the restaurant was partitioned off with see through glass at the top of each section and all my one needed was to be frosted or to be made of all wood so I couldn't see a pile of dirty food plates piling up next to my head. I still had a good night and would go back but this did spoil my night out a bit.

Average standard of dining for a harvester restaurant... got seated quickly and served by a lovely young man who advised us it was his first day, ordered a pint of shandy and was served a neat lager ( not that I minded that, it was a good pint ) Had a salad which was fairly fresh, tasty and plentiful, the two people I was dining with had no problem with their meals, I had the chicken and ribs which was served Luke warm, I did mention to the waiter who offered to get it changed for me, I declined as not to eat at separate times to my partner. It's one thing to get things right in a restaurant on mass and all too often people ( myself included ) will review and complain after the event, I however would like to add that one average experience doesn't put me off trying somewhere again, however I think on the whole, with my previous experiences of harvester restaurants, I will be giving a rather large swerve to them in future, in favour of the more reasonable priced, better quality Wetherspoons on the high road.

We've visited this Harvester before and it seemed ok. This time it was a shambles. Even though I could see many empty tables, we was made to wait for 10 minutes to be seated. Then when we went to get salad there were no clean bowls. Waited 5 minutes for clean bowls, when I picked one up from the pile they bought out, the one under it was half full of manky pasta that had stuck to the bowl and been through the dishwasher. Grim. Then there were no bread rolls. Waited 15 minutes for those. Food came out pretty quickly or so it seemed, I was waiting for rolls for so long we were still eating salad when it arrived. No one cleared the empty bowls on the table and it was a small table, struggled to eat comfortably to be honest. Some of my chicken was raw, the chips were so over cooked we couldn't eat them at all. I will never return here. Reluctantly paid, wish we didn't!

We visited yesterday for Easter Sunday ( 16th April) , arriving at midday the restaurant was pretty quiet but our table was ready and had plenty of room for the 12 of us. The salad bar was stocked , clean and fresh looking. All food and drinks arrived in good time and the food was fresh , hot and tasty. The packs provided for the kids were great , however as it was Easter Sunday a little egg hunt would have been nice. The best part of the experience was our waiter Elliot - what a lovely young man. Nothing was too much trouble , he smiled all they way though the meal and had a laugh and joke with us. He had made our party want to come back to the restaurant for his fantastic service :)

Stayed in the Premier Inn at Rayleigh last week (8th April 2017), went to the Harvester next door, poor service at the Bar, glasses lining up to be cleaned, we went for a set menu for £11.49, we both had the breaded mushrooms, which was over cooked (terrible), then I had the steak, no flavour, my husband had the ribs, no flavour.Very disappointed with the meal and would not recommend it, the salad bar is disgusting, needs to be cleaned more regular and top up when low, the bowls was not clean and had to ask for 2 cleans ones, the Harvester needs to take care of their standards of food hygiene. The price is average and so is the food.

I went to this Harvester on March 10th with my mum for a late lunch, as it's local to her and she fancied a salad bowl. I had the southern fried chicken and the food was tasty, hot and a great size portion. The waitress was lovely, we was not rushed and had no complaints from our visit. I was invited along again by friends on March 22nd and after the great visit last time it would have been rude to say no. I went back again with high expectations and was not let down. I had the BBQ stack followed by a rocky horror and my only complaint is I was so full I couldn't move. As before I couldn't have asked any more. The waitress this time was called Hollie and she went over and beyond in her role, including making a 5yr old birthday that little extra special! Over the years my wife and I have on occasions eaten in this restaurant because you could always count on a reasonable meal with a great free salad bar, at a sensible price. We've been a couple of times recently, once for a breakfast and once for an evening meal and on both occasions we're very disappointed. On the last occasion we found that there hadn't been much attention to maintaining the salad bar so that the selections looked quite unappetizing and the serving spoons were caked in sauce/mayo etc.I find it quite sad that this place is starting to allow it's standards to fall. It was never intended to be a place of haute cuisine of course but I doubt we shall be looking to rush back there any time soon, especially as there are many similar competitors nearby.

The good points are that the server was really helpful and pleasant and the cooked breakfast was good. Bad points:No side plates available, had to use a cereal bowl for toast which makes buttering quite a challengeCereal bowls were soaking wet. Damp toast it is then. Only two juices and no water available. I was expecting jugs with icy cold apple, orange, grapefruit, cranberry, pineapple and water because that's what the other Harvester does. Instead there were room temperature cartons of apple and orange and no glasses. Had to use a mug.Room temperature milk for cerealNo butter leftStruggled to get our bill as we had somehow got lost in the computer.I'll go elsewhere for breakfast next time.

Being regular customers of harvesters we know what to expect, sadly on this occasion we were most disappointed. Very slow service, clearly understaffed. Waited at least 20 minutes for glasses to arrive for our drinks. The Cherry pepsi tasted like watered down standard pepsi. The Salad bar was, quite frankly, disgusting. There were only 3 dirty bowls, food baked on them in the dishwasher. The salad was limp, lack lustre and much of it was swimming in fluid. There were only a handful of rock hard brown rolls available and no staff nearby to replenish stocks. We had to ask for clean bowls.Main course was ordered and brought out in a timely fashion, but literally a minute before bringing it out to us, our waiter informed us they had run out of beans!! fortunately my son was ok to go without. Husband ordered the BBQ Chicken stack, the chicken was lukewarm and unappetising. My sons ordered gammon, both of which would have been better suited as new soles for my boots. No steak knives were offered and we had to acquire a fork from a nearby empty table. My bacon and cheese burger was best described as edible albeit quite dry. The 'salad' in the burger was a joke, despite there being a national shortage of lettuce at the moment, I expected more than a 2 pence sized piece of lettuce, would have been better if they left it out completely. In summary, the food was edible but definitely not top notch or exciting in any way.Not that it affected our dining experience, but I feel it bears mentioning the table behind us was left uncleared for the whole hour and half we were there and was still dirty when we left, and we had plenty of time to look at it while waiting for our bill to arrive. All of that being said, our waiter was courteous and doing the best he could.Having frequented this Harvester at least 9 or 10 times over the last couple of years, we have never had a 'perfect' experience, but for the most part it has been acceptable, however it has been getting steadily worse, to the point now where we have decided not to frequent this particular Harvester again.

Visited on a Sunday evening passing through Rayleigh on a long journey home. First we overheard another customer complaining to the manager that he had found a very long hair in his meal. Perhaps we should have left then but we stayed. We ordered and were served by a very pleasant waiter so no complaints in that respect. Visited the salad bar - oh my goodness, what a disaster area! It was in darkness, presumably to cover up the fact that it was a mess, food slopped everywhere and different salad items mixed in together, no bowls and no rolls. Eventually, bowls and rolls came out but I'm afraid I couldn't stomach any 'salad'. Mains were edible but some of our party said that theirs were not that hot. Toilets were freezing - no warmer than being outside, with no hot water to wash hands and the drier blowing cold air. Wouldn't visit again in a hurry and certainly wouldn't recommend.

This is my third visit here, the first time was what you expect from a Harvester and happy with the visit. The second visit was diabolical, over cooked chicken, under cooked sausage on a children's meal, 3 of the choices on children's menu unavailable. It was so bad I complained and was sent a £10 gift voucher to go again. Well I went again today and my goodness!! I'm not even going to waste time complaining as I will get another voucher and I will never be visiting again. Once again there were several choices in available from the children's menu, which in turn made it impossible to take advantage of the kids meal offer. The salad bar all of the plates/bowls were dirty and we had to clean them ourselves, as well as that the salad bar was not very well stocked. When our meals arrived 2 of us had fish and I kid you not, there were approximately 6/7 flakes of fish inside a rock hard, dripping in oil, fish shaped batter. Our meal came to £55 in total (this includes the £10 voucher discount) for 2 adults and 3 children who only had lunch. It was totally disgraceful and when we mentioned to the waiter that there was no fish in the fish, he laughed and asked if wanted dessert!!!

Me and a friend came to the harvester this evening for dinner. The car park is confusing, walked in to a 5 minute wait to a dead resturant. Was then greeted by a clueless waitress who informed us she would find someone to seat us as she didn't know "where people are sitting" .Was then taken to a table " under a heater" which must be broken as it pumped out cold air. We asked fro two refil pepsi, they brought over two empty glasses, when i asked where the drink machine was, apparently he didnt know. Our waiter then come to take our order we was told numerous times that the so called ordering system does not work properly all the time. There was no fish so my friend ordered the triple combo of chicken (expecting 3 types of chicken). Our order was still not here 40 minutes later to then be told that the order did not go through even though on his iPhone it said it was complete. We was not made aware of the salad bar. Once our food did come it was burnt, and tasteless. And my friend only had 2 types of chicken on a trip please combo when we questioned it, we was told we was made aware of it which we most definelty was not! When we complained we was told that he would speak to his manager to see if he could get us a free ice cream. By the way we are grown adults. The corn on the cob that was meant to be with my mixed grill it was actually on my friends so called triple combo. The staff shouted at one another across the resturant. We're joking and pushing each other. The bar smelt of wet cat. Overall a terrible experience and will not be back. Terrible food and poor service!

Went here for my daughters birthday. Nice and quiet and nit too busy.Seated quick and happy for us to choose where. Not many staff on duty but as not busy was okay, usually see them running around and stressed so that was a nice change. They were polite and friendly staff and had time to chat, lovely.Salad bar was well stocked and plenty of choices.Food we ordered was hot, well presented and well served, very tasty.Had afters and they were gorgeous. Unlimited soft drinks as always. All in all a very enjoyable evening and meal.A big Thank you all at The Harvester Rayleigh.

Went with the family, they weren't busy but the food was average and not hot. The chips were only warm so we complained and received a new lot of hot chips. Wasn't impressed at all

My wife and I were staying at the Premier inn next door and ate at the Harvester that night with some relatives. It's a typical Harvester. Nothing pretentious just good food at sensible prices.

I decided to treat the wife & I to breakfast at the Rayleigh Weir Harvester this morning (19-Nov-2016).There was a chill in the air, so I was looking forward to a nice hot breakfast, boy was I disappointed, big time.I opted for the unlimited breakfast and the wife the Avocado brunch. As there was no one around to seat us, I led the way to a table away from the windows as past experience has taught me that by the window there is a cold draft, not what I wanted today. After waiting an eternity to place our order, at least 30 minutes, I had to ask in the end, then another 15-30 minutes the food eventually arrived. The plate the cooked breakfast was on was stone cold, the contents barely warm and the Black Pudding, well I will only say it can only have seen the pan or grill for about two seconds as it was raw and uncooked. The Avocado Brunch wasn't much better.Nothing on the plate had any warmth to them, one would at least expect the muffin & poached eggs to have some warmth to them, better still be piping hot.I couldn't be bothered to find anyone to complain to, as they infrequently came to the area we were sitting in.I mentioned the black pudding when a guy collected the plates, and got the response, if you had told us we would have got a fresh plate.why should have to, it should come hot in the first place and cooked. No discount offered for a poor cold meal.We have had this experience in the past at Harvester Sites, not just Rayleigh, a couple of years ago they had upped their game and were serving good value hot food with good service. Not any longer it seems, as we had a similar experience at the Brighton Harvester only a couple of weeks ago.Oh well, time to find another place to have breakfast.I certainly won't be going back again.

Wanted to book a table and you can do it online so completed all the information and selected a 14:00 slot. Every 15 minute slot up to 18:00 was available at this point. I hit enter and system stated chosen slot had been taken, followed by every single slot thereafter! I ended up phoning direct and they could only fit us in at 16:45 which was disappointing. They advised they have issues with the booking system apparently so I would recommend ringing direct rather than online. When we arrived it was busy but not manic.Order taken very quickly and salad bar offered. Main meals arrived just as we got back to table with our salad, which was impressive but we felt rushed. We all chose chicken stack which was nice but quite small portion for the money. For desert I really fancied something with custard but everything was sold out so I ended up with just a small bowl of custard! Daughter had the fudge cake which was spoilt by the honeycomb coating, far too much on it so ruined the taste of the actual cake. Ice cream seemed a safe bet.Wouldn't be in a hurry to return.

This isn’t a review of the Harvester per say, as everyone knows what you get if you venture into the Harvester. Reasonable food, the sometimes good and sometimes bad service etc. This is a review particularly of the children’s menu. My wife and I along with our two boys, aged 9 and 4, ate in the Rayleigh Weir Harvester on Saturday. Firstly, it should be noted that Harvester no longer has children’s activity packs or certainly not the Harvester at the Rayleigh Weir. No colouring sheets, no pencils nothing. Very poor. My 9 year old son ordered from the ‘Bigger Bites’ menu and asked for the omelette with grated cheese and fresh tomato. He was quite specific about what he wanted as he is a vegetarian. His main course arrived with an omelette the size of a regular saucer and no tomato in sight. We asked if this really was ‘Bigger Bites’ and apparently it was. The only difference is the ‘Smaller Bites’ omelette doesn’t have tomato. We asked for it to be taken back and for the missing tomato to be added in. Within seconds my son’s omelette reappeared (same omelette) with two large pieces of fridge cold tomato stuffed in and the now cold omelette folded around. My wife and I were speechless. We asked to see the Manager! The Deputy came to speak to us and explained that the omelettes are made ahead elsewhere and kept in storage. If someone asks for tomato all the chef can do is stuff a couple of tomatoes in as had been done.He did concede that the chef had been very lazy and the tomato could have been warmed and prepared better. He took the food back and in a very short space of time the same omelette came out with the tomato finely chopped into the folded omelette and it had been reheated for the umpteenth time. Over all it was edible. So please bear in mind, if you opt for the ‘Bigger Bites’ omelette for your little one you’re paying an entire £1 more for a couple of bits of cold tomato to be rammed into a premade omelette. I would save the £1 and grab a couple of bits of tomato from the salad bar and do it yourself for free! If you want cold tomato in a warm omelette. My 4 year old ordered a ‘Build Your Own’ Beef Burger also from the ‘Bigger Bites’ menu ‘cos for some reason the ‘Smaller Bites’ menu for under 5’s doesn’t have a burger option. Go figure. The burger was quite tasty but the presentation was very poor and the bun was dried out and hard. My son didn’t eat much of it.My suggestion to parents out there is to give the kids menu a miss. For starters give your kids something off the salad / bread roll bar and order them a dish off the mains. Yes it will be dearer but you’ll be getting much better value for money.Harvester, buck up your ideas and sort your kids menu out ASAP!

We were booked into the Premier Inn for the night on business and the firm had pre-paid our evening meal in the Harvester next door. Probably wouldn't have gone here otherwise. Had triple chicken on the recommendation of the friend I was with. There was plenty to eat chicken was well cooked but battered chicken was a bit dry. The salad bar was busy things were being topped up dressings were a bit messy and could have done with some attention. Overall average you don't leave hungry but you get what you pay for.

Our granddaughter ordered macaroni cheese. Very little macaroni, no cheese sauce, just a watery thin liquid. Full of broccoli and peas. Not exactly matched the description. On another occasion she ordered the pasta which is described as plain pasta in a tomato sauce. The pasta was overcooked and lots of little broken pieces and it wasn't in a sauce, it looked as if a tin of chopped tomatoes had been thrown into it. Very poor

Visited Rayleigh Harvester with my family in October. We usually go to the Harvester in Shoebury, but it was closer this time. This was a bit of a disappointment. The salad bar was half empty, corn very watery, the coleslaw salad spoon handler was full of mayo and it's made my hand covered with mayo. Small roll, especially the brown one was stone hard. We didn't finish eating our salad the main was out already. The main was OK. My chicken was a bit cold. My son's fish goujouns was half unbattered hence the fish was fried and was extremely dry. I probably will not visit again. Sorry....

The Staff here are great and very helpful and it was surprisingly crowded for a weekday night. The restaurant is almost next door to the Premier Inn where we were staying and the nearest option for dinner. My steak was a little stringy and tough but the buffet salad was ok and you can eat as much as you like. I also had their sweet potatoes but the sauce was not pleasant and they brought me some without which was much better. The cheesecake was enjoyable!

It's a harvester. It's not a five star gourmet restaurant and the food and price reflects this. The service was great and waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was actually better than expected. The buffalo wings I had weren't great but the chicken main was nice. It's pub grub and as good as many other local pubs and very accommodating for families

A lovely relaxed atmosphere. Not busy but it was 3pm on a Monday afternoon. Food was good but for some reason there was no white bread. My friend is gluten free and the waitress was very helpful with options and making sure the chefs knew about her allergy. I would definitely return.

Me and my friend ate here whilst staying at the premier inn just next to it. I have been to a lot of harvesters as we have a few where I live and believe they are value for money but I have to say I was rather disappointed with my visit to this particular venue. On arrival there was no tables available and we had to wait about 15 minutes which is fine as we didn't book so we went to the bar to get a drink whilst we waiting. We ordered a bottle of white wine, there was none in the fridge and the gentleman serving us didn't seem to sure on what to do. We eventually got our bottle but it was warm which wasn't pleasant, we had to ask for a bucket with ice.Our buzzer finally went off and we was seated but right next to the kitchen which was rather warm and a bit uncomfortable as there was constantly people walking past us. We ordered starters, potato skins, ribs and chicken wings. The potato skins were extremely dry not even adding Mayo helped so we left most of them they tasted like there was frozen. The chicken wings barely had any chicken on them, they was the smallest wings I've ever seen. The ribs were average. For main my friend ordered a steak, I think it was an 8oz. It was so fatty she could barely eat it and only managed to eat about 1/4 of it and it wasn't particularly hot. I ordered the chicken bbq stack with sweet potato fries and a side of onion rings, my chicken was very dry, the fries was the best bit. The waitress forgot to put my onion rings through so when my food come out I had to wait longer for my side. They was very greasy and again not great.

Visited here for a post-karting meal. I hadn't been in that building for years, probably since it was just the Rayleigh Weir Pub. Obviously it's now part of the Harvester chain, so in terms of choice of food, you pretty much know what to expect. The pub seemed well maintained and the tables cleared efficiently after people left their tables. The food was well cooked. I had the sausage whirl with sweet potato fries, which was really nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Despite the fact our booking wasn't until 9pm, our waitress (is that the right word these days?) wasn't pushy and let us proceed at our pace. So the experience was trouble free and it was a pleasure to eat there.

Am just taking a breather from the wonderful breakfast I've had. We went for the 8.49 all in which means unlimited tea juice cereals cooked breakfasts and bread. We only managed cereal toast and cooked breakfast with 3 cups of tea and coffee. The staff are very attentive and offer more cooked food so you don't feel like you're being greedy lol. My only criticism is there are no pastries available which would be a nice touch. Will definitely return.

Front of house last night was very quick to convince us the place was rammed just to get a £10 entry fee out of us only to walk in and walk straight back out, absolutely dead - we were one of about 5 people. Very disappointing and mis-leading to the point we didn’t even bother getting a drink.
