Fantastic food and great service

We have loved this restaurant for over 25 years. However, the takeaway this evening was sadly very disappointing. We ordered the mixed hors d'oeuvres for 3. Surprisingly, it all came in a single box, rather than several containers as usual. The sauces were in containers within. The amount of sauce and seaweed was what would normally serve one person in this selection and the ribs were more bone than meat. There was barely enough sauce for the ribs and the sauce for the satay chicken had been watered down. All for the same price. We won't be coming back. The chicken and cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce was still good though. We would've paid more for the same quality they previously offered.

What an outstanding little find this was! Got a takeaway yesterday and can honestly say it was the best one I have had for years!

Order sweet and sour chicken and rice, sweet and sour sauce. Very planed food phone to say sauce missing to be told can’t do anything I’ll have to got back if I want it. Crap food crap setvice

Waitress kept shaking or drinks while we were eating to clear them. Didn't even ask to. King prawn chow mein had 3 prawns in total. Food was bland and the Tai curry is obviously just powdered sauce. Honey ribs were dry and tasted like nothing. So over priced for the microwave meals. I kid you not when I say out food came out within 5 mins of ordering but you could tell it was microwaved. Pretty nice spring rolls though. This place is rude and overpriced

This was quite dreadful. The worst take-away for years and years - order incorrect and really poor quality. Bring back Chan

Without doubt the worst ‘meal’ of my entire life. Restaurants like this should not be allowed to operate. Send in Gordon Ramsey! A kitchen nightmare!

Harvest Moon the dine-in restaurant is now operating a take-away on Thame High Street. It's 'Under New Management' so I thought I'd give it a try. What a mistake. The staff were surly, despite me being the only customer in there. But what was really disappointing was the food. The bag of prawn crackers was the smallest I have ever seen, around a third the size of a standard bag. And to add insult to injury the prawn crackers were stale, badly stale. The Chow Meins were just awful, easily the most bland Chow Mein I have ever had and it had a slightly burnt after-taste to it so we ended up not eating it. I wasted £23 of my hard earned money on this 'food' that we ended up throwing in the bin. I will never ever again waste my money on Harvest Moon - it was beyond disappointing.

Hidden away down an alley. Worth looking for. Spacious, clean, good service and wide choice. Visiting so this was a local recommendation. Well presented, freshly cooked. Carry out facilities as well as eat in. Lots of customers which is a great advert.

Although service and connectivity to order and pay on the app was easy, the food portions for me were not quite in line with the cost of the items. Beef in the order was very sparse and the sauce was really small amount, in the menu this item was designated L for large it was by no means a lage portion

Vegetarian option are amazing and there is plenty of them. Staff are lovely and service is quick.

Delicious crispy duck pancakes, friendly service, loose leaf jasmine tea that was refilled regularly and for free. Accoustics were not that good, making it relatively loud. Would recommend!

The restaurant was refurbished in May this year, so it’s a while since we have visited. Today was disappointing. The décor is stark, bright lights with little ambience. The food was ok. Long delays between courses. Cutlery expected to be reused for subsequent courses. Chop sticks handled by server and replaced for me to use again. Staff pointed to the ‘No Service Charge’ on the bill - three times, despite being told we would give a cash tip. No intention of returning to a resteraunt we’d enjoyed for the past 6 years.

This has been my third visit this year, and I've been going to this restaurant for several years. It's always been consistent; I never had an issue with the food; I think it's fantastic. They have the best ribs in the area, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it—only criticism. I would say the restaurant is starting to look bland, the lighting is too bright, and I would tone it down a bit, just my advice. Chinese restaurants should look and feel like traditional Chinese restaurants should. I love the food. Well done, Chef and fantastic service from a lovely lady that I have forgotten her name. Got order wrong and high prices

Fabulous meal tonight at the Harvest Moon. All food delicious, hot & varied. Good atmosphere & friendly service. A really enjoyable experience.

We chose the Harvest Moon as we thought it would be a nicer takeaway than some of the other local options. Unfortunately it was really bland. The only dish that had a decent flavour was fillet of beef in pepper sauce but even that lacked peppery spice.

Food was excellent and very reasonable. The waiter on the other hand we found very rude and obnoxious. A mistake was made on the appetisers and he was very clear he didn’t make a mistake it was us. And made sure to tell us at least 3 times about it.

Great choice of vegetarian dishes! You really are spoilt for choice. The sharing starter platter was amazing! Would definitely recommend the mock duck! Service was friendly and attentive but we were the only people in there... would definitely recommend and will be back if we are in the area again.

Poor quality food and overpriced for the standard. The shared starters at over £18 was particularly disappointing. Mains were small and low quality of ingredients used.

First time back there since early 2020. It will be our last poor service poor food in depressing surroundings. Total waste of money.

Scrummy! Large ribs as starters , very good choice, sizzlers, set menu not seen ? Great atmosphere with a boiled sweet to go.

I have been vegetarian for 8 years. Last night I ordered vegan chicken skewers and was given real chicken, to which I ate. When ordering my food, I wanted to make sure I was definitely ordering the vegan skewers, so I said “vegan chicken skewers” and POINTED at it on the menu which is in bold green writing (the rest of the menu is in black) the server (who I believe is the owner) even repeated what I ordered and I confirmed it. When the food came out, I asked the female waitress if it was definitely vegan and she confirmed it was. I then double checked the owner when he brought over our drinks and again, he confirmed it was vegan. I began eating the skewers and found they tasted way too similar to chicken to be vegan chicken. After eating a whole skewer, I asked the younger waitress (who is lovely and not at fault in any of this) if my food was definitely vegan, she took one look at it and said “that definitely doesn’t look like the vegan one, but I’ll check”. A few minutes later, out comes the owner to tell me it’s NOT vegan and I had just eaten chicken. He was vaguely apologetic, his words were “sorry, the chef is making you the vegan one now” and that was it. When he brought out the vegan chicken, he tried to blame it on me, by saying “you didn’t say vegan”. Although as mentioned, I said vegan and also pointed at it on the menu. Regardless of that, I also doubled checked first before eating it. So this was far from my fault. When he handed us the bill at the end of the meal, he said “sorry about that again” In a very careless voice and proceeded to charge us in full for the meal, including my “vegan” chicken. When we asked for the chicken to be taken off of the total, the owner became agitated and rude, he didn’t seem to understand why we were so annoyed. He took the chicken off, slammed the new bill down on the table and walked off. From this point on, his tone of voice completely changed and he was no longer as friendly. The over all experience was awful and uncomfortable. Had I had been allergic to chicken, that could’ve gone awfully. Not forgetting the fact it took me asking a third person to finally found out it wasn’t vegan. Over all, the food was very bland and not up to the standard people proclaim in the reviews. Eating meat after years of being vegan or vegetarian can make you very sick and the lack of care and concern from Harvest Moon, was quite frankly, disgusting.

Had a great meal for 6 of us last night... perfect service, perfect food. Its a little tucked away in Thame, but well worth a visit..

I am very glad that I managed to find another place which has my full recommendation. The food was fresh and full of taste. Had a chance to speak with Andy who is running this restaurant, he is very nice person and looks like his priority is to keep high standard. I like his approach. Would I visit this restaurant again, 100% YES. Hope will be around soon to visit Harvest Moon again.

First time visiting tonight. Cannot recommend it enough. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere.

Good takeaway. Huge selection including many vegetarian options. Sometimes pick up times a bit optimistic so a wait involved.

Always go to this Chinese and recommend to others never had a bad meal from here. Feels like authentic Chinese food and great staff

Great food. Service a little slow

We are regular visitors to Thame to visit friends and relations after living there some year ago.Staying at “the big hotel in town” and no longer impressed with their style/menu decided to poke around the alleyways and so pleased we came across this delightful little establishment.A busy Friday night but we were eating early and they were able to accommodate us.Friendly and prompt service, plenty of choice with very tasty and generous portions.Obviously very popular with takeaways with loaded bags being delivered to awaiting customers but this certainly did not curtail the excellent service we were given.Our first stop on our next visit.

The food was excellent and not overpriced, so no complaints there. The only issue I had was with the service: the waiters seemed not to know who had ordered what when the meals arrived. They shouted out the meals as they arrived, but it was so noisy my partner missed out on her main course. It must be easy to equate a meal with a the seating arrangement. I will go there again if they sort it out.

Amazing food, friendly atmosphere and covid safe

Great meal, top rate service and lovely staff. If you love Chinese food I can thoroughly recommend the Harvest Moon in Thame. The food was freshly cooked and tasty and the meat eaters raves about the duck and beef.

This restaurant was amazing. It was quiet, with a nice atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, really nicely presented and reasonably priced. I would definitely go here again - it made the perfect post-lockdown treat.

I haven’t been here since it’s previous incarnation as Drunken Chef , but oh my days I’m so happy we tried it on a whim. Excellent service , staff all lovely and attentive . Will definitely be coming back more regularly now ! Thank you Harvest Moon and Andy

The hoisin veggie duck and the veggie chicken were both so tasty - Andy was also lovely to talk to and served us well! Would certainly recommend (also has lots of veggie options)!

This restaurant is close to our hotel and was offering EO2HO discounts.The food was OK, but some things were not the best, e.g. the satay sauce was too bland. The prices on the menu were higher than those advertised in the window, which should be easy to correct.Staff did not wear masks and seating was quiet close together.

Tasty takeaway meal from Harvest Moon. A bit late considering we had ordered an hour before we wanted to collect and still waited for 20 minutes. Mixed starters for two were very good. Little disappointed with the lamb which was again on the dry side. Special chow mein had just about everything in it! Good for a treat

Normally good but long wait for take away. Don't blame them for that but I did wait 10mins at the counter before they thought to tell me about the 45min wait. I had tried to order by phone but they didn't answer. Saturday night problem. Edit: jan2020 - very poor takeaway. Gloopy hot and sour (vinegar) soup, bland Singapore chow mein, suspect hot and sour pork. Must be loaded with something (msg?) because I got migraine and cold sweat in the night. I won't come here again.

Absolutely delicious food - just fancied spare ribs this evening so bought a takeaway from Harvest Moon. Food was ready within 15 mins and piping hot. The ribs are on the appetiser menu and it’s a huge portion. I had ribs in Cantonese sauce and was incredibly tender. My partner had sweet & sour chicken, rice and beef chow mein. Containers have see through lids so you know what belongs to who. Quality food, good service.

We have visited the restaurant a few times which is great but mostly frequent for a takeaway. The food is always fantastic and the service and turnaround is efficient. The staff are friendly and chatty. The menu caters for various diets which is great for my wife and I being Vegetarian / Vegan, the options are vast. They are always willing to add / remove items to dishes (I always go for extra chillies!)Cannot recommend highly enough. It is a little pricey than some of the other local takeaways but it is worth it.

Visited on Friday 25th October, we opted for a set menu, just shy of £28 per person. Food quality was ok, taste was ok and portion size ok. Didn't feel that we got value for money and certainly wont be visiting again. Happy to pay for quality but quality and price on this occasion didn't match up

We were on an overnighter and fancied a Chinese meal. Came upon this place and were surprised by the quality of the food. A dish, beef ho fun, normally only available in bigger cities was available and excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Sadly got our takeaway order wrong. We ate what was given to us as we live too far away to do the journey back again. It was pretty awful and mostly ended up in the bin. Gave two stars as the manager offered us credit. Sadly don't think we'll take them up on the offer.

We'd been thinking that we hadn't eaten Chinese for quite a while, and we've only a take-away in the village, so I looked on this site and others, and decided we'd try the Harvest Moon. To take the decisions away from us, we went for a set menu which started with a great selection of starters, of which the spare ribs, so succulent and meaty, were the start. The duck that followed was also good, and we were then asked if we wanted our mains straight away or to have a short pause. That's the sign of a good restaurant, and good staff.When our mains came the crispy fried beef was the best I've had for a long while, crispy but then melting, and nicely spiced. The contrast with the prawns in garlic worked well, and then the richness of the chicken in yellow bean sauce with cashews completed the trio of tastes and textures. A well chosen menu.

Came into what seemed to be a lovely place to get an oriental cuisine with my son. Getting my take way but had to hurry out due to the fact that one of the members of staff was harassing a poor young waitress. Vile behaviour! Wont be coming back anytime soon.

OK, I have been here lots... great Chicken Chow Mein. But I have to say one thing... there's a member of staff there who is just incredibly rude and should not be working in hospitality... Very rude to customers and abrupt... I wouldn't normally complain too much, but I just witnessed him being a right bully to a very sweet young waitress, actually made her cry in front of customers... poor girl!... Dreadful. I won't be going there again.

Much better than your average sweet n’sour high street takeaway with a nice selection of veggie dishes that made me pass on my normal beef in black bean selections. As good as the food that I have eaten in China in the past. Avoid peak takeaway hours as it seems as if half of Oxfordshire drops in on a Friday and Saturday evening so don’t sit near the door if you can avoid it!

Takeaways take too long, items forgotten, asked for Cash poor

Its rare to find Chinese food of this standard outside a major city. Everything was good from the dim sum, starters and main courses and the rice was delicate and fluffy. The service from both the owner and Andy (his English name) the waiter was flawless and the décor, lighting and background music is just right. Its well worth a visit.

Delicious food! Lots of options for vegetarians. Quick service, friendly people, good atmosphere. Nice to have real material table clothes and napkins.

Food poisoning, beware!! Ordered takeaway from here on Friday 24th May. We ordered: chicken satay skewers; crispy chili beef; veggie spring rolls; sweet and sour prawns; pork dumplings; chicken chow mein. Diarrhoea commenced Saturday morning and was joined by it's good friend vomiting in the afternoon. Didn't feel safe to be more than 50 meters from the toilet until Sunday evening. It's now Monday and my stomach is still not settled down. Have ordered from here a few times before and it's been fine but don't think I will be again!

My wife is a vegetarian, i.e. does not eat meat, so when we ordered a takeaway this evening she chose a tofu and vegetable chow mein main. The person who took the order spoke native English, i.e. nothing should have been “lost in translation”. After driving home 3-4 miles from Thame we discovered that we had been given Char Sui Chowmein instead of the tofu & vegetable one. It was full of Pork, had no vegetables in it and it wasn’t possible to even pick out the noodles since there was so much meat. Serving meat when you’ve ordered vegetarian is inexcusable. I phoned up and asked could they do something to put this right. The lady on the phone told me the order had been interpreted as Char Sui not Tofu. She was very apologetic and I was offered a discount on our next visit. However, given that my wife had to have toast instead of a meal because of their stupid mistake I don’t think this is good enough. If it was my restaurant I would have cooked the correct dish and sent it in a taxi. The cost would have been 1/5th of our order value, but this was not offered. Our evening was ruined as our kids and I felt awful that my wife could not eat her meal, so we did not enjoy ours. What a shame. While I sat waiting 20 minutes for the takeaway to be ready (I arrived when it was due to me ready) I overheard the staff tell customers on the phone that they could not hear them so to speak up. My advice to Harvest Moon is buy a better phone handset and read customers orders back to them so you don’t ruin their evening over a stupid mistake. As you might guess I am somewhat annoyed by this.

have had two takeaways from here, mid week is fine but on the weekends be prepared to wait an hour for food. The food is very good and being a vegetarian, their extensive range of veggie food is amazing! the veggie hoisen duck is beautiful! If you are dining in, I can imagine it is a bit off putting with people coming in and waiting for takeaways as the restaurant is very small. It would be amazing if they could make a separate waiting room for takeaway customers so you don't feel you are ruining the experience for people dining in

Great place, nice atmosphere, delicious food and not too overpriced!

We have used this restaurant a number of times in the past and recently went for lunch on a Sunday. We were the only customers for the first twenty minutes but were ignored by the staff who were more interested in packing up the laundry from the night before. Eventually our order was taken and after another long wait the first course arrived together with our drinks order - which was incomplete. The food was excellent as always but the service continued to be slow and frankly amateurish. I believe there is new management and they would be well advised to improve the performance of the front of house staff who are letting down the kitchen.

Our party of four came for dinner and I was delighted with the entire meal. Service left a bit to be desired, but we were not in any particular hurry so it didn’t bother us much. We ordered one of the set meals and everything that came was very yummy and well made. Not a single thing went uneaten. Best Chinese meal I’ve had in quite some time.

Quality ingredients i.e. prawn toast was 2cm thick but super expensive for the small portions. £9 for singapore noodles. Could have been great but soooo salty despite asking for no salt no msg. Had to send it all back - ruined the night.

Got seated eventually for a pre-booked table, queue for takeaways meant people were stood in front of tables eating in the restaurant. Young lad took our drink orders and only 3 our of drinks turned up, 2 were wrong. Sent beer back as asked for pints and it returned watered down.

Harvest Moon is a fairly standard 'Peking' Chinese restaurant. The food is excellent. It s a very popular restaurant particularly on weekends when a large number of takeaways are served...………...and this is the problem, as staff struggle to cope and, as a result, service is terrible. One hour plus waiting for starter. Having said that, no doubt midweek is infinitely better and for patient diners the food is well worth the wait. Spare Ribs are truly delicious!

Visited for a 3rd time, last one being about a year ago. The experience was pleasant and the service very attentive.

Centrally situated down a side alley, small inside so I would advise to book ahead, huge menu with extensive drinks list, there were 7 of us and we chose individually, all meals were v good with the duck and pancake being the highlight, huge portions. It is quite expensive but I would recommend and revisit.

Recently visited the Harvest Moon restaurant in Thame. It was a most enjoyable meal but perhaps a little pricey. Service was good and all the staff were very helpful and polite. Restaurant was clean and tidy with good decor. Would be more than happy to return.

Fantastic food, stupidly fast service when ordering a take away and a nice environment. Highly recommend.

My husband, daughter and son-in-law ate here one night while on vacation. We were starving and were able to be seated and order right away. Our waitstaff was friendly and professional and the food was delicious. We sampled so many dishes that we began sharing our entrees. This is a lovely restaurant, perhaps considered upscale, but with great food!

Nice and spicy and not too greasy. Decent portion and also more importantly to me not too salty. Would recommend.

The venue is great and outdoor seating in the lovely garden terrific. The crew is utterly friendly and all guests in a from very good to party mode. Plates are huge and typically shared. Seafood is great, but I would also recommend the pork tenderloin.

Love the food here, only downside is it’s so hard to get a table especially on the day!

Lovely food and a huge selection for vegetarians. I highly recommend the salt and pepper tofu and the vegetarian duck - I'm a meat eater and still love these. The service here is always good and children are welcome in the restaurant.

Fantastic dining experience. Service, Food, quantity and quality all 10/10. We will certainly revisit the next time we are in Thame. Family lunch today and we ate off of the Lunch Special menu.. Good selection and good portion sizes. Thank you folks for a brilliant lunch....

Never seen this restaurant before so today was our first visit. Wow, what a find! Service 10/10, Food 10/10, Atmosphere 10/10 and cleanliness 10/10. We had the lunch special and it was awesome. We all said we wished we lived closer. We will certainly be back their next time we are in Thame. Thank you so much for a lovely meal and experience.

Visited midweek, did not book ahead but would next time as v busy, v friendly meet and greet, usual Chinese menu, we ate super duck and pancakes, spare ribs + 3 main dishes of chicken and prawn, HUGE portions, all tasty. The only negative was that the chicken in satay sauce was a liitle odd.

We didn't eat in the restaurant but can certainly recommend the takeaway we had; extremely tasty! A bit more expensive than my local Chinese takeaway but the quality of the food was worth it!
