Had booked lunch for my friend's 60th. Person serving was not customer focussed and appeared passive aggressive. He made a song and dance about my requesting wholemeal sourdough, stating it wasn't wholemeal but "sourdough", and kept repeating it was "sourdough", like it was something special. Was taken back by his attitude - it was rude! I googled this issue and, yes, you can have wholemeal sourdough!! The mushroom soup starter was beautiful and my friend enjoyed her starter and main. However my main dish was made to suit my dietary requirement and it was the worst food I've eaten. A tablespoon of tasteless lentils and tempah greens. The overall flavour was fried. Very disappointed. The waiter had come over and asked my friend about her food and before I could tell him about mine, he turned his back and gone but later 'reprimanded' me for not speaking out sooner. The side order of triple cooked chips left a lot to be desired too. Crispy, oily but no potato left in them. Decided not to order a dessert Fine dining it certainly wasn't. Very disappointing!

We visited for Afternoon Tea. We were seated in a small but very comfortable restaurant. All staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. Really lovely & fresh sandwiches. Egg, ham & smoked salmon. A great selection of cakes which were excellent. Also scones with jam & clotted cream. Lovely macarons and lemon posset. Nice tea and Prosecco. Perhaps a few more choices in teas would be nice. We really enjoyed it. In the evening we were a bit late getting back to the restaurant to have a 2/3 course meal included in our package so chose the ribeye steak which I thought was very expensive plus not very tender though tasty. Enjoyed a cheese course. We will definitely return. Would have loved to have tried the prawns or crab.

Treated to afternoon tea, with friends, for my birthday. Having eaten at Harts in the past I was looking forward to it. However, it was not to be. I don’t think I’ve ever been served such a disappointing afternoon tea - ever, The sandwiches were stale, dry and tasteless, as were the pastries and cakes, some were even burnt! The scones were inedible and could have been used for a door stop. The macarons had the texture of cardboard and were, again, tasteless. And when do you serve Earl Grey tea in a French press? Teapots are available and are the bedrock of this Country. I didn't complain at the time because it would have embarrassed and upset my friends who had kindly arranged and paid for this. However, I’m not only upset (it was a special birthday) but I’m incredibly annoyed and to add insult to injury a £46 service charged was added! I think Harts are trading on past glories but have not maintained their high standards. I will not be dining there ever again.

We wanted something special for a birthday celebratory lunch and Harts Kitchen well exceeded our expectations. Very comfortable and a warm welcome without any fuss. It was a three course lunch for both of us - with the sea bass exceptionally well cooked, with knowledgeable advice and suggestions from the waiter who gave us such attentive - but discreet - service. It was such a good experience that the cost was irrelevant and we shall certainly return knowing the standard of the food and service, and will certainly recommend to our friends.

I had been a few years ago for lunch and it was fabulous. Have just been and it was a real disappointment.. a choice of 3 starters and 3 main courses … I had a Hobsons choice and didn’t enjoy either as I had no choice!! There was hardly anyone in the restaurant so clearly those in Nottingham had worked this out. Don’t bother and go to the sister restaurant in Rutland..

Disappointing Valentines meal. This deal was over-priced. My main of fried halloumi & tempera battered vegetables looked unappetising, tasted greasy & was a poor vegetarian option. Desert of poached pear was also inedible. Unsure what the pear was poached in! Service was genuinely inattentive & when they cleared table cloths & blew out candles on other tables while there were 2 tables left at 10pm summed up how poor the service was. Staff seemed inexperienced & the food was sub standard.

Afternoon tea was spoilt by poor communication. There were 5 of us out to celebrate our friends 50th birthday. The table had been booked the week before by one of the party and I then contacted the restaurant twice, by email which never got responded to and also then by phone. I asked if there were any other sandwich options on the afternoon tea other than what is advertised on their website sample menu, I explained I was a fussy eater and didn’t want to make a fuss on the day and if I gave them enough notice maybe they could provide me something a bit plainer like cheese, beef or chicken, nothing extraordinary! I also requested a plain scone which if the kitchen are making them from scratch each day should be no problem. Unfortunately nothing had been passed onto anyone as when we received our afternoon tea none of my requests had been listened to, I received an afternoon tea which I wouldn’t eat 75% of. I then had to go through the embarrassment I’d tried to avoid of going through it with the waitress, then the manager etc. I did eventually get some other sandwiches and dessert but by this point everyone else had eaten and the event tarnished, which is upsetting. It was however entertaining when another diner at another table was so drunk he fell off his chair and lay across the restaurant floor!! Very classy! No discount, no complimentary drink offered for their lack of communication! And still put 12.5% service charge on the bill! What if it had been a food allergy I’d informed them of which they failed to communicate? I think it’s safe to say none of us will return and will have nothing positive to say about the place to anyone else! Shocking for what is supposed to be one of the places to eat in Nottingham!!

Well all ordered the sea bass main course which was superb, memorably so, Puddings were very good. The only thing that was disappointing given the prices and food standard is the inexperience of the waitress who was sweet but sadly not very competent. We would expect a higher level of service from an establishment like this.

We came on a Saturday night. And ordered from the December a la carte menu. Was hoping to have the venison but that had changed to the pheasant. I ordered the pheasant, it was really nice- full of flavour. The others opted for turkey. A big piece of turkey and I tried a bit, was really tasty also. I had the cheese for dessert which had a local cheese on, very nice. The service was very atttentive. Being during Christmas there was a rowdy table enjoying themselves but they did quieten down. A very enjoyable meal in an intimate restaurant, Would definitely like to come again.

We went to Harts for our 11th anniversary. We thought it would be extra special but unfortunately the experience wasn’t as good as expected. We both went for the Sunday set menu which is £32 for 2 courses and £38 for 3 courses. It was a very limited set menu with only 2 starters and 2 mains to chose from. We had the homemade soup and the pork pate to start with followed by the roast and cod loin. The soup was ok, well seasoned and thick. The cod however was very small, very thin and terribly over cooked. It was served on a bed of some green leaves and seaweed. You could then pour the miso broth over but the fish came with nothing else at all. It was bland, hard and just didn’t feel like that dish was actually £24!! The waiter was very nice and attentive but the food was average and expensive. Also, the set menu works out at £38 for 3 courses but when I did my maths they had charged me £2 more for each set menu so the bill was £4 more than it should have been. Based on my experience today, I don’t think I will be recommending Harts to any of my friends as it felt totally overrated and expensive.

The Harts brand is synonymous with quality, Hambleton Hall (Aaron Paterson), Quo Vadis (Jeremy Lee), Barafina (Michelin Star). On this performance Harts Kitchen falls woefully short and the current level of cooking is dire. Starters - Bread is dry, Soup is lukewarm, Prawns are average . Mains - Pheasant is dry, overcooked and distinctly unpleasant, the Croquette is equally dry and flavourless. Koffman Cabbage is an insult to the great man. Beef is cold, Roast Potato's are overcooked and chewy. Halibut is overcooked, Risotto flavourless. Triple cooked Chips are anything but, simply chips straight from the freezer. Horseradish is presented in a sachet!!!. Cheese is adequate, Chutney is pureed, green and tastes of nothing. Service is average at best, glassware is cheap. Clearly wouldn't return.

We dined with Harts as a party of 10 in celebration of my father’s 100th birthday booked well ahead. An agreement was made on the telephone at the time of booking that the table would be ours for as long as we needed. Perfect as guests had travelled a long way to be with my father who is understandably slow and needed to be unrushed. Our welcome and service from the staff at the table was excellent. We even agreed to have photos taken by a member of staff for their publicity and marketing purposes as they said they have rarely (if ever) accommodated a 100th celebration. My father was enjoying himself and regaling us with his lifetime stories, when were asked to vacate the table for another party and move to the fireplace area. Surprised and stunned at this unexpected request we reluctantly agreed, only to find insufficient and inadequate seating for us. Harts was comprised with the unfortunate second booking presenting a difficulty. Clearly one of the parties was going to be upset and regrettably that is us. We have complained on the day itself and in a telephone conversation with the manager and a letter to the owners, only to be met with a response that we had much longer than they would usually allocate, and a denial that they would make any such commitment to us regarding keeping our table. I shall remember my father’s demeanor changing from pleasure to bewilderment as he stood in total confusion wondering why we were all standing in the foyer with nowhere to go. We have received no apology for our unexpected curtailed celebration. Whereas we do not expect charity, we had spent a lot of money with Harts on that day, and if priority cannot be given for 100 year old gentleman I don’t know what can. I have withdrawn permission for our photos to be used.

We like Harts because the food and service is good. The food was good, but not as hot as I would have liked. Service was also good. But, as with previous experiences, but much worse this time, our meal was spoilt by a table of 6 noisy, drunken diners. It is a small restaurant, and a place to dress up and enjoy good food and wine, but this table were casually, if not scruffily dressed, had downed a few drinks before entering the restaurant and were noisy all evening. We were glad to leave.

Visited Harts for lunch and was a little disappointed considering all the good reviews. The general character of the restaurant is strange/old fashioned to the point that it may be trendy chic! Signed photos of celebrities from 20+ years ago, we weren’t sure if it’s trying to be ironic. The food was nothing special and not worth the price compared to other restaurants in Nottingham. The service was okay, again nothing special. £110 for 2 course lunch with 2 drinks, nicer than going to a chain but not worth the additional cost.

Let’s start with the positives. The team were very helpful and accommodating with my booking (had to change numbers) and brought out a lovely decorated plate and truffles for my daughters birthday at the end of the meal. Food was predominantly “nice”. On arrival it was a bit like walking into a posh old folks home. Although the carpet was threadbare in places so maybe not so posh. Staff were pleasant but could offer no wine recommendations and wine was plonked down on the table, no tasting or pouring (which would Be nice as it’s not a cheap place to dine). Food recommendations weren’t forthcoming. We weren’t offered any vegan options. The starters had a mixed reception. Leek and potato soup was nice (not rocket science though is it), duck liver jammie dodger was interesting and the girolle mushrooms with a poached egg were so acidic with grappa you couldn’t taste anything else. We weren’t asked if the starters were ok and no one asked why I had left the mushrooms. The steak dishes were good although both ordered medium rare and one was rare and the other medium well. The sea bass was lovely and fresh and the accompanying pesto, tomato and kimchi were also nice however the triple cooked chips were as pale as Casper and resembled a chip shop chip (at £4 a small portion we’d have been a lot better off at the actual chippy!) questioning the triple cooked element lead to a defensive barrage from the staff about the chip prep and process. We did get asked how the main meal was so I took the opportunity to politely say that the starter hadn’t been very nice but was just met with a blank stare. A 2 course meal with a bottle of wine and a few beers/soft drinks cost £300 for 5 of us and while not extortionate, the ambience was lacking and the food and service left wanting so we didn’t feel we had value for money in any sense. We did enjoy our evening but it was the company rather than the restaurant!

Having visited the sister hotel Hambleton Hall on many occasions, we decided to treat our grand daughter to lunch whilst visiting her in her new 'university' city. I had booked well in advance and to be fair was told that we could only be seated at 12, but would have to vacate by 1.30 as a large party was expected for lunch. We arrived 10 minutes early and were promptly placed in the hotel lobby area, which was quite stark and unwelcoming - had to ask for the lunch menus, conscious that they, not us, required speed to be of the essence. Seated at 12.15 in a bar area -not feeling a proper dining room ambiance - comprised of about 8 dining tables we placed our order. Counting 9 waiters to 12 customers we expected some decent service as well as food (bearing in mind the expectancy of standard of H Hall.) Long story short, my starter was completely forgotten and when it arrived comprised of three mouthfulls of smoked salmon, some dried cucumber and sauce spread so thin on the plate you could see the plate, no garnish no lemon. As it was obvious the main courses had been ready long before my starter appeared we encountered the hot lamp syndrome. so the gravy etc was rather 'dried'. My grand daughter said her dish was good, but then she is a polite girl, and how wrong can you go with rice and mushrooms. The large party started to arrive and we were frankly suddenly more insignificant than before.... Mr. Hart, you need to get this team down to Hambleton for a week intensive training or, as previous posts suggest, change something. I resent paying inflated prices for a name, and food served up better at home, and a service charge for mediocre service. Moreover, when asked to arrive early and leave at a certain time, I think I am doing your staff a favour - we were made to feel the favour was being extended to us. Shan't go again, rather eat in one of the very many other eateries in the City.

After an incredibly trying morning, my husband treated me to lunch at Hart's today to help me decompress and relax. It was a really lovely experience. Having only 20 tables makes the restaurant area blissfully peaceful and quiet, which was exactly what I needed. If you can get a table round the edge on the bench seating I highly recommend it, it's absolutely luxuriously comfortable! I didn't want to get up when we'd finished! Although we hadn't booked today, they were able to fit us in straight away and the service was spot on - attentive but not too attentive, in the way that some places can be these days. The food was absolutely excellent, most especially our desserts. My husband had the poached pear dessert and said the combination of flavours and textures was just lovely. He said: "This is the place to bring people we want to impress!" I agree. We'll be back.

Recently dined at Harts. First visit since the closure of the larger restaurant. I ate the Bresaola which was great, slight issue on Gorgonzola being detailed in the description but barely made the plate. For main I had the pork dish which didn’t look much on arrival, but taste-wise blew me away.

I have given 4 because Harts is well above average and deserved it. The thing that stops it being a 5 is that the 12.5%service charge is not justified. The service is ok but not exceptional, the food is lovely, the pasta dish, very simple but delicious and I had THE best treacle tart I have ever eaten, I mean amazing! £120 for lunch, I can cope with but maybe the service charge needs to be optional.

We visited Hart's Kitchen yesterday to celebrate birthdays and compared with our previous experiences at the restaurant, it was very disappointing. The food was the usual excellent standard, but for £50 a head there's an expectation that the experience will be memorable and it was memorable but for the wrong reasons. The Kitchen restaurant is very cramped, incredibly hot (why no air conditioning?) and the service was not up to the usual standard - we had to ask for butter and the water was warm (no ice available). The worst aspect though was because the Kitchen is so cramped and the area so small, the noise was just uncomfortable and we had to shout across the table to make ourselves heard. I always buy my daughter Hart's restaurant vouchers for Christmas but certainly won't this year, and we won't be returning.

What a shame. Harts has always been one of Nottingham’s finest but from what I can gather, there’s a dispute with the landlord, they’ve pulled the plug, and now the restaurant has moved to the Hotel. It’s still great food, but it’s a stop gap and not the same. Such a shame. I hope they’ll return to a suitable venue as at the moment it’s just not right.

Amazing food and cocktails. A special mention to Brenton, the Restaurant Manager, who is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome (He also makes the best cocktails). Hart's is definitely a favourite of mine.

We visited Hart’s Kitchen yesterday for the first time since the closure of the main restaurant and, as it was a very warm night, sat outside, which was lovely. There was only one waiter serving all the tables but he worked very hard to ensure everyone was well-looked after. However, be warned that the menu has been down-graded and it is a very different dining experience to before. The best dish was the poached peach dessert but perhaps we should have gone to World Service instead to celebrate our wedding anniversary for a more special meal.

visited on 5th July 2019 for afternoon tea. Extremely disappointed. Expecting Hambleton Bakery cakes/treats, but, only scone and brownie, remainder were made in house and very amateurish - poor quality. Overpriced, so-called "Wimbledon Afternoon Tea" at £23-95 each, even the sandwich fillings were "sparse". Have had much better Afternoon Teas elsewhere, and less expensive.

We arrived to find the restaurant building vacated (with sign). We had not been told on booking that they have moved the restaurant across the way to what was the bar area of the hotel. So much smaller and now bar ("you can have a drink in the lobby" which is stuffy/small and pretty dismal, nobody came to serve us anyhow). The meal was at best average, with a very limited menu (4 each course) a country mile form the days when Harts was the place to go on a special occasion. Our steaks (the special of the day!!) were covered in an oily herb butter which was not mentioned on the menu and which was not to our taste. The thrice cooked chips, well we left them. Most of the desert choices seem to centre on Harts (own bakery) pastries, too heavy for desert, for us anyhow. The only thing that has not changed much was the cost - £133 for a very average 3 courses (one drink each and half carafe of house wine, 1 coffee and 12.5% service automatically added. This was sadly our last meal at Harts.

My late husband and I enjoyed coming to Harts for many years. Happily the move across the courtyard hasn't in any way affected that enjoyment. If anything it is almost better! The food is every bit as good and service is judged perfectly .I now come with friends but if I came alone I am sure that I would be made to feel just as welcome.

We enjoyed an excellent midweek meal at Harts Restaurant, unbeatable in Nottingham. Hopefully the new restaurant in Harts Hotel can match this. A twist on French onion soup and cured salmon with beetroot and lime starters were outstanding. Then hake with creamed potatoes, leeks, roasted garlic and hazlenuts also impressed. For twenty one years Harts has been the best restaurant in Nottingham.

I decided to go for the Valentines night meal as a treat for my loved one and I have to say I was not let down at all by the staff, the food, the atmosphere or their themed occasion. The menu was varied and all our choices were beautifully presented and packed with interesting and lovely flavours. Our attentive waitress was a bonus, as well as the range of quality wines on offer. After a few Prosecco's we were having a blast! It is a shame that the restaurant will be closing on this site, I always admired the style of the old building and the interiors. Hoping that the future reincarnation of Hart's will be equally brilliant and will echo the same strong values and standards.

Our afternoon tea was a gift from our daughter. The waitress was lovely and extremely attentive but the afternoon tea itself was very average. A selection of teas but all teabags! Afternoon tea usually consists of a selection of finger sandwiches and then homemade cakes. There were finger sandwiches but the fillings were very bland. There was a minute soggy pastry tart and a soup! The scones were good but very small and these are usually the centre piece of the tea but instead a slate filled with huge cakes was served. The almond tart didn’t taste of almond and the orange muffin was very heavy. Not nice at all. Have had far better.

We had called by a few times previously for a drink and a bite of lunch when it was the Atlas, so we called by again for lunch. The immediate greeting was that there was a 20 minute wait for food (no hello), we went to order at the counter, but were told that the orders were now taken at the table, whilst the waitress came to our table in good time, the wait for the drinks was tedious, so tedious we considered leaving. The place was freezing, the front door was open all the time, everyone was sitting with coats and scarfs, it was like sitting in the garage with the freezer door left open. We saw so many people waiting for food, someone returning their food to the counter, that we decided just to wait for the hot drink (we were going to order food). We saw the tea bag (for one of our drinks) dropped on the floor and then put back on the saucer and served to us (we asked if we could swap it for a tea bag that hadn't been on the floor) - the waitress apologised, but come on this is basic hygiene surely staff should know not to do this? All in all, very, very average and not at all as we remembered when it was Atlas
