I love coming to this pub. I love doing the quiz every Wednesday and Sunday. It is my local and love coming here when I’m back from uni. The staff are amazing. Beautiful in the winter for the cosy vibes and in summer for its great beer garden.

Christmas Day! and WOW, it was busy! Firstly eating out on CD was a new experience and I was nervous for the 6 of us(my idea). They did not disappoint in any way. Food was excellent and the service even more so. They worked their socks off ‘literally’ Will always speak highly and recommend to anyone who fancies a change on this special day. Thank you Rodney and HNY.

There’s a lot of rubbish written about this pub generally by key board warriors who have nothing better to do with their time . Christmas was horrendous yes half the staff were struck down with flu but I thought they handled it fantastically in extremely trying circumstances , the people who moan are generally rude and ignorant it’s my local and the staff do a fantastic job and I will continue to support it

Very disappointing food yesterday, it's gone downhill since previous visits. Bar staff that were there previously had gone and there was a different vibe to the place so maybe it's changed management. Beware the 'special offers' on food. Outside boards show a meal-deal for a small lunch and drink for £8.49 - but this is nowhere to be seen inside. Instead they offered two meals for £14.99, but with a couple of very ordinary pints it was over £27. It turns out some meals have a surcharge applied and they upsell extra chips that are not included without mentioning they cost £3.49 extra. Actually the chips were better than the main food so it was a good job we did get those.

Booked for Christmas day lunch several months ago for 3pm. Arrived to find an overcrowded pub with staff running around looking stressed and unwelcoming. We were ignored so managed to ask someone passing what to do. They hadn't even set the tables yet. The bar had 1 person serving and countless people trying to get served. There was no explanation of being short staffed as we have since discovered was the case. We eventually got a drink and then waited on our table. We checked after half an hour and were told they had tables of 9 and 7 come in. Why that makes a difference to our meals I can't imagine. A couple who seemed to be regulars judging with the way staff were talking to them had all 3 courses while we had nothing. After 1and a half hours with nothing we checked at the bar again. Still no sign of any food. We asked for a refund and was given it without apology. The assistant manager just seemed glad to have 3 meals less to serve. I have never not had a Christmas dinner but thanks to the admiral rodney this was a first. What food we did see come out looked awful. Maybe a lucky escape.

Went here early doors on Christmas Eve, very busy and staff appeared stressed. Waited patiently at the bar but was ignored by bar staff. Eventually caught the attention of a barmaid, who was exceptionally rude, and said, who ever speaks first will get served. She was a middle-aged lady with blonde hair and glasses. This individual desperately needs to work on her customer service skills. Rude and unwelcoming, we ended up going to the Wollaton pub, although it was equally busy, we were served straight away by friendly and smiling bar staff. The Rodney has a lot to learn from this pub!!

Went christmas day for dinner with my mum and husband food was lovely and the staff very friendly everything was perfect for us. Me and my husband come in often this was the first time for my mum she enjoyed herself. Thank you to all the staff for making it a lovely day.

We have been here many times over the years. And never had too many issues. But we went last night (Christmas eve). I knew it would be busy but the bar staff were rude. We had sat at a table We knew was reserved thats ok Bar staff came over 30 minutes before the reserve time booted us off the table because she needed to lay the table ready for the people had reserved (ALSO fair enough) but the way she went on made it like she was properly decorating it. She put a runner and 6 crackers down which litrally took her two seconds. Just didn't find the staff very friendly. Also my husband was at the bar staff ignored him severed people who got there after him first. We came a few years back for a meal and I seem to remember I booked a table and someone was sat on it and I got told to find somewhere else even though I'd booked. 😅. So overall great for a drink if you can get one. But that's about it.

All the staff looked so miserable this afternoon. Was far too busy and not enjoyable at all. Such a shame as we wanted a nice festive experience but it was not at all. Shame as the food was nice. We just couldn’t wait to get out of the gloomy place.

We were a party of four we all had Sunday lunch the food was plentiful but arrived cold we had to send two of the four back to be reheated The roast potatoes and all the vegetables were obviously frozen products not at all good value for the money The service at the bar was terrible unless you were a local therefore you got served first the bar staff were quite rude My partner and I both had bad stomachs when we got home would not recommend and would definitely not eat there again

23 of us went here for our Xmas lunch today. Service and food was really good and was good value for money. Thanks for looking after us and we will definitely return.

Just had a Wake in the front Dog Bar. The staff were very attentive and the venue perfect for the purpose. Buffet good too.

Enjoyed a lovely meal. Special mention about Marta who served us. Always friendly, polite and welcoming every week. A pleasure to visit every Saturday afternoon.

Excellent food and quick service in a friendly local pub. Food menu has changed but quality of food still good. Pub beginning to look shabby and needs freshening up Toilets not good either.

Went for a meal. An atmospheric pub let down a little by an average food offering ( egg and chip etc. ). Had fish and chips which was tasty. Prices are fair. Service friendly thanks. Beer good. Could be really special with a better menu.

What a great pub. The food is excellent. Great, friendly people. Staff are superb. Children welcome & and dogs, too. Nice open log fire in the main area. Football screening around the whole pub with large TV in the garden area. Great family pub. Love it.

My wife and I called in to the pub today for a drink but later decided to have a bite to eat. I had the scampi and chips from the seniors menu. The plate was hot ( a nice change from many eateries), I chose garden peas and I was expecting the usual hard bullets but was pleasantly surprised to find they were petit pois. I’ve chosen scampi and chips in many pubs over the years but never had such nice peas before. The scampi came with a really nice tartar sauce and the chips were decent too. The service was fast and friendly from Ryan and John and overall I was very satisfied. My partner had the chilli chicken wrap from the lunch menu and found it to be delicious also. My only niggle was that I’d ordered our drinks and the went on to choose food after. Had I noticed that you could add drinks to the food at a discount, it would have been even better. We’ll do this next time!

Sunday roast lunch was a disappointment. The food was swimming in gravy, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding soggy. I won’t be returning. Sorry, as I was really looking forward to a nice lunch with family,

We recently held our son's birthday party at this pub, and it was a fantastic experience! Ryan, one of the staff members, went above and beyond to make the day special. From helping us set up to ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout, his attentiveness and friendly attitude made all the difference. The venue was perfect for a celebration, with great food and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for any gathering, and a big thanks to Ryan for making our day extra memorable!

Four of us went to Admiral Rodney for a drink after a walk in the park.Sat in one of the smaller bars...lovely.BUT we were shocked at the price for the round of drinks (2 pints of Peroni,1 large Sauvignon,1 medium Pinot)..about £29.The same round costs £ 18 to 20 in our local town about 8 miles away.I understand this pub is much nearer Nottingham but it's not in the city centre!! Any particular reason for the higher prices?.Otherwise, really like it there.

Ive took my review of the Rodney down after thinking about it for a few days as admittedly i was a bit harsh . The admiral Rodney is a fine pub either for a quiet drink a lovely snug bar to watch the sport in or for a meal in the main bar or snug . They have got a good selection of beers and the bar staff are friendly and go that extra mile . Well played Rodney keep it up .

Went to kick off a stag do. Staff were warm and welcoming, food was brilliant value and the drink selection was spot on. What more do you want?

Great place. Cosy in the winter, large beer garden for the summer. Friendly, efficient & and welcoming staff with great beers, lagers, wines & spirits. Food is very good too. Sign up to Greene King & receive free drinks codes & food offers every so often too - can't be bad eh ? It's a great place!

This is a smallish local pub close to Wollaton Hall (which we had just visited). It's a bit basic in decor but the welcome was friendly. We had booked a Seniors Meal beforehand (smaller portions) and the staff were good at serving us. Food quality was okay. 👍

Lovely place just needs a bit of TLC and it to be a freehold again (probably unlikely) Looks beautiful from the outside especially in the summer months with the hanging baskets etc. Just little things like the paint and old wood windows that are in need of some repairs etc, inside is very in keeping with the age of the building and presented nicely, I have been going 47 years on and off and the place has the potential to be epic. Current landlord/management doing a great job though. Staff are very friendly and cheerful. Keep up the good work. Sorry my food review was poor I only had the chicken wings that day but they were not great, again they are limited due to Green King. When we went a while back and the Sunday lunch was nice so I will try something else from the menu on my/our next visit. Thank you. Also I would like to thank the male landlord for his wise words, and sorry for my retort. I understand. Kind regards.

Went with my family to this pub for the first time even though I've lived near for years . It was the most comfortable and pleasing pub in the area . The food was outstanding and filling and large portions . All served by excellent staff . The pub was very nice and very very clean with a great country pub vibe . Over all I would give this place 100/100 . This is our new pub of choice .

We were a large party in Nottingham to take part in the transplant games. We had arranged for dinner at 7.30pm. Advised the day before that it may be nearer 8pm. On arrival they asked if we wanted the bill under each name so we all knew what to pay (we had already advised them of the meals in advance). Once the dinners started to come out the kitchen everyone was served really quickly. Food was excellent as was the service. When we all paid the lady was super efficient and we all paid very quickly. Lovely pub and would recommend.

I would thoroughly recommend this great pub for it's food, fantastic service and friendly atmosphere. We were a very large party and the AR team went above and beyond to cater for us all. The food was high quality and great value.

Have been going to this pub for 23 years - over the last few years visits have been less frequent as this pub is sadly going downhill. I won’t be going back after the events this week. I went Monday evening and sat outside, thinking it was odd the beer garden was so empty. Probably because of the massive t.v. they have now installed attracting the yobs a previous reviewer has referenced. Sadly though some of these were staff - I recognised one as one of the ‘chefs’. 8.30 pm after the group had had a few too many shandies they started effing and jeffing at each other. One young lad who moments earlier had been running around upset that his mummy had been trying to call and he had missed them thought he would be intimidating and take off his shirt and invite the ‘chef’ to a fight in the car park. Loads of strutting up and down and a number of ‘you effing c***’s. This went on for about 10 minutes before the landlady came out to ‘deal’ with it. She looked petrified and was unable to control the bunch of idiots. Beer garden emptied of all the decent customers trying to enjoy the evening. Doubt many will be back. She didn’t apologise to any of the remaining customers. I don’t have children and am not a delicate doily but really would not recommend this to anyone thinking this is a family friendly pub. I imagine it would be quite distressing for children to witness. On the other hand rather entertaining to watch a bunch of grown men who couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag trying to be ‘hard’. Wonder if his mummy knows?

Came in this afternoon with family, friends and colleagues had food and drinks, service with Anna and Marta was excellent, they couldn't do enough for us and will definitely be back. Overall good food and good service. Highly recommend.

Salt & pepper chilli chicken & Katsu curry sauce two mains for £14.99 food hot & tasty no complaints 👍 happy to report the two loud & sometimes crude sisters who work the bar where nowhere to be seen 😜

I visit Admiral Rodney occasionally but I've got few friends who are regulars who enjoy really friendly atmosphere, appreciate staff sense of humour and positive attitude joking with all customers in all age group what I have noticed myself, if you looking for boring place with personnel without personality go somewhere else. I'm not regular drinker but if I would I would be there more often.

This was the first time I came to the admiral Rodney and my experience was a decent one. Meet a very interesting chap at the bar, working he was. Bright blonde hair I think his name was Alan… Adam yes that was it Adam Ponting a fine young man, the best Barman ive ever meet and I’m 78 and drank everyday. I’m an alcoholic.

Visited with friends for a catch up. The food was lovely, the salt & pepper chicken is very nice. Good atmosphere and great service from Ryan, very helpful and attentive

We walk in to the bar staff playing on their phone. We had to repeat our drink order 2 times for 2 Drinks. The menu is really bad lack of choices and a carbon copy of other pubs. No check back on the food which we both left. Will not be going back.

We came across this pub after an event at Wollaton park and as we had to leave the park the opposite end to where we were staying, very lively but welcoming on a Saturday around 10:30.

This pub used to be great 5+ years ago sadly it's been steady going downhill for a number of years. Don't know if it's because the landlord doesn't care aboyt the place or this is just the Greene King standards. The place is in desperate need of a good clean all round. The toilets are shocking, the once nice beer garden has now had a big screen fitted playing football so you can no longer have a nice quiet drink out there thanks to all the rowdy young lads they want to attract to the pub to make a quick buck when footballs on (not everyone likes football). Considering it's location I'm surprised they have chosen to go down that route. Anyway if you want a great pub with a nice beer garden pop down the road to The Wollaton Pub and Kitchen!

Went on a trip down memory lane. Only to.have them destroyed. What's happenned to this place. Tired. Dirty. Rubbish.foid. waitress really couldn't be bothered and looked scruffy. So sad

Only stopped for one beer, but a nice place and beer was good.

Really like this pub, a country pub in the city I would describe it as. My grandson and I came today and both had the new salt and pepper chicken with katsu dipping sauce and chips. It was really, really tasty, hot and good portions. You only lose a point because with the katsu chicken dish you get 50/50 rice and chips and I would have liked this instead of all the chips. Really good deal at 2 for £14.99 Monday to Saturday.

Never thought I'd be giving the Rodney a 1 star but, that's what it deserved when I visited. The staff behaved like they were on a school trip - 3 smashed glasses, and a WHOLE pint poured over a customer 😑 in the space of 2hrs! The food - it was edible. The toilets??!! Jeez, you really need to sort them out!!! You will be pleased to hear I won't be returning any time soon. Let me know when you've had a makeover! 😥

Good food, friendly staff. Interior has a cottage/cosy feel to it rather than a big open space, menu decent, car park to side, we went with 4 and 5 yr old and would go again.

Love the Rodney..we go back years. Love the feel of the place and the ambiance. However a few things always bother me..the price of the lager is utterly astonishing. I've never paid more for a pint of lager in any other pub..anywhere! Ever!!! £6:40... that's capital city prices or worse!! Someone somewhere is rubbing their hands in glee and yet the place is still always full!! Secondly the bloke's toilets are medieval at best. Soooo very grim. I've contemplated peeing myself as an alternative to avoid having to go! Yes THAT bad. I'll still continue to visit despite my moans though. Crazy I know..

Staying in Nottingham, called in here for lunch. Traditional looking pub, lots of tables in various rooms, cosy atmosphere. Very busy but plenty of parking spaces. Few vegan items on the menu, good value, we had the superfood salad, katsu curry and mariana ciabatta with chips. Don't have to wait to long even though it was busy. Specials on so really good value. Cost just over £30 for three meals with drinks. Dogs welcome.Worth calling in for a meal.Would book as it gets busy.

As a drop in for drink and a chat which is what I and my girlfriend did, it's not the best, no where to really find a cosy corner to chat sadly. It's a lovely old pub but far to busy with the Sunday lunch types ,in that respect it's great and just what a green king pub is set up for. I would not go again except for food. Just not what I like or require but we gave it a go.

I appreciate this Is a dog friendly pub, but not dogs on public seats. Unacceptable wouldn't be allowed if German shepherd, or any larger dogs were roaming all over the seats,so shouldn't be allowed for cockapoo type dog's either. But nice pint and lovely pub
