Harts Coffee House & Deli in Selby

"I visited this cafe for the first time today with a friend for lunch. As someone who frequently visits cafes, I found the manager's behavior to be quite unusual. We asked our server, a young girl, if we could purchase a sandwich and chips to share, as we weren't very hungry. We also ordered separate hot drinks. However, the server seemed hesitant and said, 'I don't think the owner will like this.' She then left and returned with the message that sharing food was not allowed. "I politely expressed my surprise, stating that I had never encountered such a policy before. The server simply repeated that sharing was not permitted. I found this approach to be overly controlling and focused solely on making a profit. If my friend hadn't been with me, I would have left immediately. In my opinion, customers should always have the freedom to choose how they want to enjoy their food. Unfortunately, the food wasn't impressive either. I would not recommend this cafe or return."

Been here several times and never had a bad meal. The staff are lovely, the service is great and the food is delicious. Everything is freshly made, piping hot and the cakes are amazing!

I can’t recommend Harts enough! From the initial communication to the quality of the food. We arranged for collection a High Tea buffet and a celebration cake for a family birthday. It was delicious! The bread on the sandwiches was beautifully soft with a selection of different fillings and everyone was blown away by the amazing scotch eggs, amongst the other delights to choose from. All topped off with a gorgeous fresh cream Victoria Sponge cake. Everyone commented on how nice it was, just perfect. Thank you so much Katie and the team.

So this review is a little delayed apologies. I was planning a surprise party for my husbands 60th (Sept) but had guests with various allergies and had been turned away by multiple bakers who could not guarantee the cake would be allergen free. Deflated and chatting to a friend she told me about Harts Deli in Thorpe and said to try them. I spoke to them via messenger and they immediately were happy to help. I requested 2 large celebration cakes- a Victoria sponge and a chocolate caramel cake as those did not need to be refrigerated for ease on the party day. They were described as serving 12 slices (well these were huge and fed approx 60 people) I collected on party day with ease, they were well packaged for the drive and I was even helped to the car. I opened the cakes at the party and wow… absolutely stunning. By far exceeded expectations, they were so pretty and the taste- omg the best cakes we’ve had. They were fluffy and light and so delicious. All the guests were completely shocked that these cakes came from this little hidden deli and my friends have since ordered cakes! Hugely wowed as the cakes were amazing but the great communication and willingness to help me made them a great supplier and to say I highly recommend them doesn’t seem enough. Thank you so so much Harts!!! Sadly I didn’t get any pictures other than this one. (Note these two cakes cost less than the one I had planned from a local cake maker)

Fabulous food and coffee. Best selection of home made cakes that I've seen anywhere and prices are good. Caters for vegan and gluten free too.

Great food (had 2 breakfasts) 2 teas. Tasty food, lovely sausages and fantastic toast with plenty of butter too 😋 Definitely in our top 5 of places to eat.

Had an excellent breakfast with quality ingredients and well presented. Great coffee and a selection of cakes to die for.

First visit after hearing great things. Breakfast was the best I’ve had in the area. Great coffee too! Service fantastic. I’ve found my new favourite place and it’s only a 10 min walk away!

My daughter bought me a voucher for afternoon tea for two and we went today, started with 2 pots of tea and then the food arrived! 4 assorted sandwiches each on lovely fresh bread and homemade quiche and sausage rolls followed by a macaroon, a scone with jam and cream, a chocolate brownie and a large slice of sponge cake,it was absolutely delicious and we had to take the cakes home as we were too full! Endless cups of tea and service with a big smile, we'll definitely be back, thank you 😊

Came for lunch and a coffee today with my mum. Despite not really being a place that caters for vegans (apart from stocking oat and soy milk) the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs - which we hugely appreciated! Food and coffee was 10/10, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back! Thank you for a lovely experience. :)

Quick friendly service, good coffee and a great sandwich. Plus Debbie rescued me by letting me borrow her wellies when the approach to the nearby hairdressers was flooded! How good is that!

We visited today and enjoyed a fabulous lunch. We had ploughmans on a sourdough brown roll, filled to capacity with beef , cheese, ham and caramelised onion chutney and served on a lovely platter with crisps, coleslaw and salad. I had a panini with brie and caramelised onion chutney, salad, coleslaw and crisps. It was all absolutely gorgeous, freshly made and sooo tasty, very filling. The staff were really lovely, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble . Katy makes the most delicious cakes, and savoury filo pastries. The salads in the deli are varied, and also excellent taste. Whether you want a coffee and cake or a lunch this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed, thank you Katie and your ladies

After recently visiting their sister deli in Boston Spa, we decided to have a ride out to try their breakfast. What a gorgeous little hidden gem. Beautiful decor and furnishings. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast!!!! I had the veggie option which was nothing short of amazing and my friend had the harts Yorkshire breakfast which again she highly recommended. Everything was fresh, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Will definitely go out of my way again to visit here.

While small it’s always a pleasure to visit Harts and I try to avoid busy times. Excellent food at very fair prices, and my dog is welcome after his walk on the Barff.

Absolutely gorgeous food and the home made cakes are just yummy! Really lovely staff too! Would highly recommend.
