I can't help it, but I find Harris & Hoole disappointing. It's major retail dressed up to be local. Unlike the big brand coffee shops that don't disguise what they are, it feels as if Harris is trying to be something it's not. There's nothing especially wrong with it, but if I find myself with a choice, I do tend to go elsewhere.

My son and I went in for coffee. They were busy and we had a few minutes wait for the coffee but we were warned prior to ordering. The coffee was great, as always. I really like their electronic membership card.

I pop in here quite often on a Saturday afternoon - it's always very relaxed, the customer service is great and the coffee is tasty - what more can you want from a coffee shop? A noticeboard for local events, a big shelf of books to swap for one you've already read, handy location straight opposite Southgate tube.

Have been a regular here since it opened. Loved it and the coffee was pretty good, probably the best in southgate up until the last year or so. However, ever since Tesco sold out the service has been appalling. Three visits app not working and eftpos notnworking. Its not rocket science! Come on sort it!!! 3* based on past love, should be 2 in reality.

Good service, good coffee. Great decor - especially the line drawings of local scenes. Central location in the High Street.

I am one of those awful people who tend to work from coffee shops. H&H is a great place to go: the staff are friendly; the coffee is great and the food (whilst a little limited in range) is very tasty.

Was looking for a dog friendly place in Southgate to meet a friend for lunch. Found this gem. Good coffee and some tasty quick bite lunch options (sandwiches, sausage rolls etc) with friendly staff.

Really nice place for a coffee and cake. I always go for a mocha. It's a rustic kind of setting and has comfy seats, what more do you want! It's directly opposite the tube and bus stop to, ideal for a caffeine boost before the hectic commute.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this coffee shop in Southgate, a nice change from the usual chains. It has a nice ambience and is a good place to have a coffee and read or catch up with some work in peace and quiet. Good coffee and snacks.

Such a great place to pop in for breakfast. The Cappuccino's are really good and the staff super friendly. I've eaten in here many times when I worked from home, and the food is great too. The coffee shop has a real community feel, they have a chalk board with local activities and events that are being held in the shop, on Sunday's they have a children's entertainer in the mornings. It's a good place to take children.

10 minute wait for a small filter coffee, only 1 person ahead of me, every table cluttered with cups and glasses, customers having to come up to the counter to ask where their food was. Finally got the coffee.…tepid and bitter. Won't return

The coffee is second to none (they serve it warm so the coffee doesn't get burned and bitter like in most coffee shops) and the sandwiches and cakes are pretty great too. However, we have been here 3 times and each time the coffee has taken so long to come that they have given us vouchers for free coffee next time. They have done this off their own bat so fair play to them for good customer service in that area but I would recommend that if you don't get your coffee in what seems like a reasonable time then go and ask. Otherwise you could be waiting a while.

I like Harris and Hoole, I visit there often. It is a good place to grab a coffee before rushing to the station in the morning. It's also a nice coffee house to sit in on the weekends and chill out. Very family friendly too. I especially enjoy the chai latte, which is one of the nest tasting ones I have tried in many places. The staff always seem pleasant. Today I requested a cold iced chai latte with vanilla and although it is not on their menu, they made it for me. I also love their gingerbread man.Highly recommend. My boyfriend and I love it.

Coffee of much bitterness and flavour, one for Agent cooper himself to savour. My New York deli sarny was a tad dry but my partners veg soup excellent and of chunky home made style. Best music I've ever heard in a cafe (not difficult but this was sublime). Decent atmosphere, have tried hard for that Hampstead feel (darling!). Surprised to see a copy of the telegraph lurking amidst all the Guardianistas but it is Southgate after all. Worthwhile and oodles more atmosphere than Costa.

It was the first I've visited one of these not so independent coffee chains (49% owned by Tesco) and believe it wasn't a pleasant experience, first the Barista was having trouble fulfilling three orders and seemed rather confused and was even more perplexed when the other girl who I suppose was the manager was questioning her. I ordered a Cappuccino, what I ended up with was a cross between a flat white and a Latte, but what was worse that it was only luke warm, not what was needed on a cold day. Upside? the muffin was delicious, ah well back to one of the other chains.Oh and at this moment of writing my email of complaint has not been acknowledged.

We have just had the most beautifully moist, white battered haddock and chips. We ordered a mixture of regular and large - and the large were absolutely huge, all with perfect, crisp batter. A large portion of chips fed more than four with good appetites. We always have our fish and chips from Fish and Chips at - and never disappointed. Delivery was on time ( was able to book mid afternoon) and the food was piping hot. Recommended

I can only rate as I have experienced here and reckon these are probably a 3.5 on a better day. Took 40 minutes for the food to arrive and we only stayed because my grandson of 3 years was so hungry. We did hear others who came in being warned of a 45 minute wait, we didn't get that warning. Not an easy task keeping a hungry 3 year old boy settled at a table for that length of time. When the food arrived, my grandons cheese and ham toastie was a cheese an onion toastie. Not a chance we were going to send it back and wait however long for a correction, so scraped the onions out and thankfully he was ok with that. The Big Breakfast. Good and Bad. It was big, no complaint there. The sausages were really really really good, the bacon was very nice and not too salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the buttered sourdough was also very nice. Now the Bad.... The beans. Just my preference but i would have preferred them to have been served seperately in a pot as they often are. There was a very generous portion of them and way too much juice. Don't think they were served from a slotted spoon, the plate was dominated by bean juice and infected everthing. They tasted ok though. The 2 inch diameter tomatoes were cooked but served whole, not a great look. The mushrooms were horrible, black, spongy and stewed. Black Pudding.. don't eat that !! so no comment either way on it. Half slice of fried bread was drowned in bean juice so soggy. The tea was ok, nothing special. Very annoying however that tea for 2 came with a small jug of milk for 2 cups of tea for a pot that done 4-5 cups easily. Had to get a refill from very busy servers. The Black Americano coffee was not good at all though, like really not good. No one would order this twice ever i'm certain. I'm sure if i'd attended during a less busy time when service was normal and orders delieverd accurately, I would have scored them higher. But you can only review what you have experienced and experience is relative to cost too. 2 Big Breakfasts, Cheese and Onion Toastie, tea for 2 and a Coffee, £42 odd. I think 2 stars is fair for our experience here, probably 3.5 with normal service. Could be 4.5 with a better detail to breakfast items and should have been better given top dollar prices. Again great great sausages though.

I’m posting this only because I have been asked to by the venue when completing an emailed survey. If you’d like me to delete it I’m more than happy to just let me know:Been here twice. First occasion was about 3yrs ago and decided we wouldn’t return. Primarily because it was a little dirty ie. Cutlery, plates etc. but nothing that would cause an issue. We were served our lunch and manager had his thumb in our food on the plate. That wasn’t for me. Then I saw a marketing campaign advertised on Facebook and thought let’s give it another go. We live locally so it wasn’t too much trouble to get to. Venue full of energy and busy but it was enjoyable. We were seated by an attentive host and everything seemed friendly. We came with appetites and were looking forward to a full roast. I immediately noticed that the table hadn’t been wiped down and there was ground in food on the cutlery on the table. I didn’t moan because I grabbed another set of cutlery off another table. We ordered starters and had a side plate which I immediately noticed had something black on it - like a small piece of burnt food or something unidentifiable. It was a side plate so I didn’t care but alarm bells were now ringing. Our mains arrived and I had to ask them to clear the starters before putting our food down - although I accept this is a common problem in the UK where staff only care about dumping food down and not clearing tables - that attitude would account for dirtiness I suspect. The main roast was absolutely fine and lots to eat. Honestly, it perfectly edible but that’s where the interest stopped as it was distinctly average with honestly zero taste. It wasn’t unpleasant but it was just totally tasteless. Not sure what else I can write tbh. Dessert was ok. It did have flavour but a little light on the substance side. I had the crumble which seemed to be more crumble that it did anything else. Again, was perfectly edible though. Then the bill. Service charge is added which is absolutely fine but then I was asked for a tip which apparently would go direct to the server. Tbh I have in because I was having a nice day with my family but that was the final straw and an absolute piss take! Categorically, I won’t be back. Interestingly I was speaking to my neighbour who said they’d had a similar issue there and didn’t think much of it. I’m not bashing the place but you wanted feedback so here it is. I apologise if this upsets or bothers you but I won’t ever be back so honestly not fussed. Shame because it really could be something good there but it’s clearly the same old problems. Edit:tbh I wasn’t going to leave a review but I received an email requesting one. Having posted it here and being bored, I looked at other reviews. It seems cleanliness is a key issue with this venue including the toilets; lipstick on wine glasses, graffiti in the toilets, dirt on tables and cutlery. Upon further research it seems this is simply owned by a business (see other reviews) where they will churn out the same stuff again and again. That sort of pub isn’t for me and having read the reviews, clearly isn’t for others. Edit after response: Ah now you see I was happy to leave the ‘seemingly’ negative review at that and frankly wasn’t even going to post a review but you asked me to. As with ALL business in the UK it seems you don’t actually want feedback unless it’s positive. So because your response virtually puts the onus of responsibility back onto me I am now compelled to respond to you directly.Firstly, how about accept the sh1t experience and feedback and say “sorry about that,we’ll try harder and out things in place”?But no,you’ve chosen publicly to explain that it’s all my fault because I didn’t tell you about it at the time!Well maybe (and here’s just a thought) you employ staff that can actually wash dishes and cutlery on the first place! It’s not my job to tell you how to do yoursOr maybe I should cook the food for you as well?I’m pleased everyone on the net can actually see your true colours responding in such a pathetic and negative manner.
