I've been a frequent customer at this branch of Harris + Hoole for the last few years, and I can honestly say that the service is unfailingly speedy and friendly, cleanliness always at least very good, and the quality of coffee and food excellent. I actually wonder if some of the less favourable reviews here are really for this branch, they seem so absurdly at variance with my own experience.

This coffee shop is always fantastic. The staff are always friendly and helpful and while there can sometimes be a bit of wait it’s because they actually take the time to do things properly! Best cheese toastie and their winter latte is amazing. Never disappointed here. Extra plus is the loyalty app which is generous.

Great service, great drinks - what is not to like?! We would return if in the area. Part of the main Tesco supermarket.

Visited the cafe on Saturday just gone so 28/9 at 12 noon and the place was absolutely filthy and I had to queue for an age to be served our drinks. Just one person serving drinks at the serving counter is ridiculous for a Saturday lunch time. At first glance the cafe looks modern and inviting, but on closer inspection it is expensive (almost £4 quid for a sausage roll), dirty and poorly run. My last comment is about the quality of the tea. After a big Tesco shop one needs a real cup of tea ie, PG, Tetley or such other brand of tea. The tea at Harris and Hoole tasted awful, flowery, posh and modern.. when all I wanted was a simple cup of Great British Tea. Photos show dirty tables and a dirty floor

Coffee is good, staff are excellent, cake was tasty. Yes, it’s a little overpriced but they’re branding as a coffee house in lieu of a Tesco cafe, as is evident in the service and fayre on offer. The one star reviews on here are unjustified, I’ll certainly be returning.

Very bitter, nasty coffee! Had egg sandwich as no hot meals on offer. Bread nice and fresh, but no butter, and had to eat it off the table as no plate offered. Looked around and the few folk in there, were also eating a sandwich off the table. No salt and pepper around so had to ask, and was given a small packet!

Must be me as other reviews say the coffee is good but I found it to be bitter and a little cold. Also, it is very noisy and lots of echo inside.

the staff are always very nice but no matter how many times I order a soy cappuccino I get a soy latte, they even sometimes put latte art on top (which they do very well btw) so I don't know why I bother asking for a cappuccino anymore but I hold out hope I guess. The taste of the coffee is good but they charge extra for soya milk, and not just a little, it was an extra 45p , which is nuts since I don't know any other coffee shops that charge you for intolerances. But if you want a pretty looking dairy latte after you finish your tesco shop, this place is perfect for that.

These lot know how to make a great coffee trust me!! Starbucks and Costa need to take note. Perfect latte and flat white. Even with the art. Food is silly expensive but I only drink coffee here so not taking that into account.

Former Tesco restaurant converted into high end coffee joint. Drink prices are in line with similar chains but cake and sandwiches seemed higher prices. Disappointingly slow service considering I visited on a weekday afternoon and the place was virtually empty. Staff also insist on taking your name for the order which is unnecessary when the place is empty. Rustic crockery, seating reasonable but felt a bit draughty on a quiet January afternoon. Given that this is a fairly budget supermarket you would have expected they would have a similar sort of café.

Lovely staff. "Interesting" chairs. Tables in need of some TLC. Breakfast tea - excellent as was my wife's hot chocolate. Background noise awful - they called it music! Pleasant enough to call in again as a pit stop during a long journey.

My friend and I often meet here for a proper pot of tea and chat. The staff are very lovely, they always remember us. They offer all the trendy drinks, but we like tea and it does not cost a small fortune!

Their coffee and tea choice is very good and well made. Uncomfortable seating and loud music and poor choice of snacks. As it is owned by Cafe Nero could be alot better.

Razonablemente agradable.

We regularly visit for a coffee. Enjoy the Piccolo. Far superior coffee to costa/starbucks/cafe nero. Food is also very nice and better in standard than your general coffee shop. It's not cheap but good. Mobile phone app loyalty card is good and we regularly enjoy free coffee from it. The chairs are comfy. Minor complaints are that the cleanliness of some floor and table areas can be hit and miss by late afternoon. And sometimes a long wait for coffee to be served. But well worth a visit.

It's many years since I went to Tescos cafe. I was hoping to get something like egg and chips or some other nice cooked meal, only to find that it was now this franchise. All there was was toasties , sandwiches , and cakes. My cheese toastie was absolutely terrible. Just a pile of strong tasting gooey pap. My mum had a chicken and bacon toastie, but she said she'd have just preferred the toast as what was inside it was unrecognisable as chicken and bacon. Just go back to a good old fashioned cafe Tesco.. please. I've not given the lowest rating as I have to say it was clean and the staff were nice and the coffee was okay. Food Awful.

I occasionally come in here for a coffee after shopping and every time wonder why I do. I think I have made my last visit. The coffee is bitter and metallic, little aroma from it ( the tea's okay) and after trying repeated types of coffees it just feels that the blend is wrong. And its usually too cold.Four staff today today nine minutes to delivertwo double espressos with only one person in front of me in the queue. And I had to point out twice i'd paid for double espressos which were bitter and cold. Add to that that the staff, really nice though they are, just cannot seem to make ordering a coffee take less than four minutes . And the place varies highly in how clean and tidy it is.The provision of spoons is hit and miss The scones are extremely good snd the toasties very satisfying but the salads, while they look and sound good are so dry and the quantity of dressing so little it becomes quite unappealling.Long on concept. Unfortunately highly variable on quality and delivery. I've decided I will wait till I get home or go somewhere the blend is good.

Popped in today for a drinks with a friend. While being served I explained to the young man that I was unable to download their loyalty app because my phone is old and the app requires iso 8.0 or above. The young man was so helpful and lets just say his customer service was first class! I was given one of the old style reward cards. Our drinks were served quickly and the coffee shop was warm and clean.

If staff spent less time chatting amongst themselves and acknowledged customers that would be a good start, these new pretentious coffee shops rely on reputation but this one certainly doesn't? Coffee chap was trying to be clever but ended up spiking the coffee and then served a cold espresso, will eating the staff started clearing tables and put the disgusting and dirty basin right next to us that I quickly moved to the new 5 empty tables, young staff need better training and think.Extremely disappointed

Went to Tesco, Hatfield today with my husband & usually drop into their restaurant for a quick cappuccino - good value & quick service. However, the restaurant has now been taken over by Harris & Hoole - whom I have never heard of & don't want to visit again! We had to queue at the food counter & then pay for our drinks before going to the drinks counter - there were only 2 staff present at 10am. We then had to wait again. The guy said that he didn't have any cups & would a paper take-away cup be OK? I said that I wasn't paying £2.40 each for a small cappuccino in a paper cup! He said that he would have to wash some cups up. I spoke to the lady on the food counter commenting that I was surprised that they had run out of cups as the restaurant was nearly empty. She replied that there wasn't time to wash any up as there were only 2 staff & they were both serving. She said that she would bring the drinks to our table when they were ready - this didn't happen so we had to collect them & they were lukewarm! We weren't even offered any chocolate on top. The tables were dirty with used crockery on several of them. There was a mixture of seating - cheap plastic chairs, sofas & a few small comfortable chairs. There were lidded jars of brown sugar on the tables - unhygienic - who knows how many kids had licked their spoons & then dipped them into the sugar! Whilst we were drinking our tepid coffee we saw the washing- up boy arrive! We will not be visiting H&H again - especially as there is a Costa 100yds away inside Next serving cheaper (£2.15), hot, better cappuccino

Typical H+H experience, good location near the A1(M). Coffee is good, if a little hot - but milk texture and taste is very palatable for a high-street chain. Finding 80 point speciality coffee and good food, whilst on the go is very difficult - so this is a welcome relief from the usual Starbucks at South Mimms.

I often frequent Harris & Hoole to get my caffeine fix. It certainly stands out above many other chain cafes. The cakes are good, the sandwiches are excellent and are not your usual suspects. The coffee I prefer over other chains, an interesting point is that they don't make their coffee as hot as others (this is advertised) I can't remember what the exact temp is but I think makes for a nicer flavour, although this may not be to everyone's taste as I have seen on 1 occasion someone complain straight away after recovering the coffee, the member of staff checked the temp and tried to explain, they did kindly heat it up further for them though.Over all though Harris & Hoole is definitely a place to take a load of for a few minutes.

Each time i go into Harris&Hoole i always seem to get my food before my drink.. Im sitting down start eating then my name is shouted out to get my coffee.. This needs to be adressed.. We want our food and drink together.. The staff although pleasent seem very stressed and there never seems to be a member of mangement out on the floor helping..My biggest problem with this place is it seems to have become a place for Tescos management to have full blown meeting in.. I appreciate a coffee and chat whilst on a break but i dont need to see Tescos staff meeting and taking up what already is limited space all on laptops and discussing plans for the week ahead.. I know before it became a H&H there was rarely any staff there.. Give it a try the breakfast toasty is nice.. coffee is ok!!

It's a usual Costa, with the menu and drinks you would expect, but the staff are extra friendly and welcoming here with lots of smiles for everyone on a rainy wet day. Well done Costa staff.

Stopped here twice, on way from Suffolk to Southampton & back, very conveniently just off A1 with a car park (free for first hour), which is rare for a Wetherspoons. On first visit had lasagna which was slightly undercooked, second visit had a lovely breakfast. Will definitely think about stopping off at this location again when traveling to Southampton.
