Had a great time here. The Hugo Spritz was excellent and the Guinness was good. The Sticky Chicken which is under the Bar Snack was my favourite. The Calamari and the Halloumi was good and I would recommend coming here as the food, drinks And atmosphere was great!

Great food and drink available, plenty of seating, small area at the front of the pub for outdoor seating, it's a great place to start for a night out or even in-between, atmosphere is good, prices are reasonable. Would recommend a visit.

Lovely place to chill and watch the world go by. Good selection of beers too.

Quiet Monday evening. Food was delicious. Vegan options. Stack of table games if you want to play. Quiz night ,music night, entertainment on other evenings.

A really lovely, large pub in the centre of York with plenty of seating inside. Definitely a pub to tick off the list when in the city ☆☆☆☆☆

A good looking place open and roomy in an old banking hall. Staff were pleasant, the food was surprisingly poor, In this time of being able to get great pub meals, it is quite unusual to get fish that was dry with a batter that was exactly how it shouldn't be not crispy with soft interior, but dark and hard and unpleasant. For such poor food it took an unacceptable long time to arrive. I will not be returning.

Great service with friendly staff for a group of 8 on our annual race meeting. Special thanks to the team for reserving a large table for our pre race day presentation.

Went in for drinks while meeting family on a Saturday night. The place was busy but the service was spot on.

Dropped in about 815 on a Sunday evening, asked the guy behind the bar if food was still being served. Got a really rude and abrupt answer of NO. Big guy, glasses, needs a lesson in good customer service.

Dined with a large group of 17. The private dining room was comfortable and aesthetic. Our meal was piping hot (hard to do with large groups) and delicious. Wait staff were enthusiastic and solicitious. We even learned about the history of the building. Fun experience!

Popped in for a few drinks on a very hot and sunny day. Set in a wonderful and beautiful building you'll be guaranteed a great drink, fantastic atmosphere and served by the most friendly and welcoming staff. I was really impressed with this magnificent building and I really do look forward to returning in the future.

Had a great time drinking with my mates last night for the game, all servers were amazing and they all put in so much effort, special thanks to Katherine, Nathan, Taylor, Patricia and Max, wild 1000% visit again soon

Unfortunately the “chef” must have been having an off day when we visited. Two of us had a burger and both were extremely burnt as were the buns they were in. We should have complained but being British we didn’t! I wish we had now. On the plus side the third member of our party had the pie which he said was “ok”. It’ll be Lendal Cellars for us next time.

A great bar. We stopped a few times, for drinks and once for bar snacks. Has a great atmosphere, and the food was lovely.

Popped in for pub lunch. We both had fish and chips, the service was speedy, food was delicious and the price was very good. I am very happy to recommend.

Tried Harkers after travelling to York for a couple of days and we're really glad we visited for dinner. The staff were really friendly, the food was lovely and their pie and a drink is really good value and excellent. It's a lovely building and a decent range of beers and gins. It's just a shame we don't live closer!

Used to be a great bar. However with the introduction of TV's and Sky Sports just another basic pub. Also the introduction of dog friendly it has lost that wine bar feel albeit the house red wine was great.

Really nice pub restaurant with nice decor, good food and drink and very efficient staff. It's a great place to take a breather when you're walking around York and you've got lost for the umpteenth time

Never been to a Nicholson pub before as none in my area. Food was very good and the staff were excellent. Went in several times over a week as we were staying in York, each time was as good as the last.

Went for the first time amonth ago on a weekend away. Food was so good we booked for the next evening. Great place, helpful staff and also dog friendly.

We popped in for a couple of drinks at lunchtime on a Friday. We didn't eat here. Great selection of really good cask ales and lots of gins Staff were very friendly and it had a nice atmosphere, as it was full. It's worth going in for a drink just to look at the architecture of the building as well. Will use this pub again when in York.

Considering it was a Friday night and the pub was busy we still managed to get some seats next to a crackling fire :)

Fabulous pub, looks amazing and lovely staff. Didn't eat only because we were with friends who had already eaten, but we have eaten here before and it was good quality pub food, well cooked. Will definitely be back!

We used to visit regularly years ago but have only just returned. We popped in for lunch and on the first occasion we had coffees and hubby had sausage and mash whilst I opted for macaroni cheese with sourdough pitta. Very nice. We visited again two weeks later. Hubby had sausage again as he says it's amazing. I changed my mind at the last minute and had a pulled beef sandwich with chips. Next time it will be the sausage.

This is a nice and popular pub with a good atmosphere and good quality food although the menu is a little limited.

Absolutely love this beautiful, atmospheric building. Even on a quiet tuesday night it was a pleasure to sit in the lovely surroundings and eat a lovely meal and a nice chilled glass of pinot!

Love a Nicholson's pub, food is always good and beer even better and well kept. Proper pub feels to them

Great bar , friendly staff,and good location

So I originally asked for 2 meals when a staff colleague member had called at they table we were unaware of what was available at they time as what we asked for was not available food wise. And only 1 meal was sent out, so I had to go back and mentioned we would like 2 really both myself and partner was rather hoping we would ear together.

Had a great meal, thoroughly enjoyed the 🥧 we had.

Decent food, bit pricey. Lovely staff & interior. Great for dogs.

Standard pub and fare in the centre of York. Stopped in for a quick pint. The pub is housed in a beautiful building but the atmosphere is pretty standard. Easy enough to stop in if you need someplace to go but nothing unique about it.

Toilets not great, otherwise good

Good food, in nice surroundings. On a very busy Saturday night, the bloke on security saw us looking for a table and pointed us to one in the next room and made sure we got settled. Food was top notch and the service fast and efficient.

Has the blade of beef pie with glazed syrup carrots and clotted cream mash. The pastry was too thick. It was a blind date. Would definitely return for cocktails and sports night.

Food was really overpriced for what it was. I had the chicken and mushroom pie which had very little filling in it. My friend's nutroast arrived lukewarm. Our waitress was very keen to put things right but it would have meant her not being able to eat with the rest of our party. The service we received was pretty average apart from the waitress who checked if we were enjoying our meal. All in all, a rather disappointing visit.

I brought my family of 5 for Christmas lunch which I booked months in advance. We had various starters which were nice The main meal Turkey breast : Meat was dry, vegetables were rock hard to the extent that all 5 of us couldn’t cut them, the vegetarian option had only vegetables and a baby potato which were all hard hence the plates were left basically untouched. A very expensive disappointing Christmas lunch which we did tell the waitress who asked if we wanted a free drink to cover our meal, no drink was taken as food was needed not drinks on empty tummies. Puddings were good, cheese platters nice Honestly not much else could be said besides the main Christmas meal was really not up to scratch ! Bearing in mind I booked immediately once bookings were opened and found myself seated in a small room away from the main restaurant and lively atmosphere was disappointing too

Staff was very attentive, friendly and well planned for a Christmas day, all deserves a massive thank you for making the day perfect!

We pre-booked online after speaking to your manager on a previous visit. She was so helpful on that visit we wanted to come again. She sent us the Christmas & normal menus by email to make our choices & was so helpful & pleasant. She welcomed us on this visit & made sure we had excellent service throughout our meal. All the staff were very polite & helpful. The food was very good & as it was the day before Christmas we chose from the "normal" menu. Will be going again as we feel very welcome.

For I think the 5th time we've been for Christmas Day dinner and, as ever, a fantastic experience. Great food, excellent surroundings and atmosphere.

Favourite bar at xmas. Has such a warm and cosy xmas feeling. The decorations and mulled wine really make it worth a visit🎄🎅

Called in for a nightcap. Ordered 2 espresso martinis at £9.50 each. The ‘barman’ simply poured a ready made concoction out of a bottle, added some ice and the shook the cocktail shaker as though he was making a bona fide cocktail. An over priced fake of a bar.

The doorman was amazing, despite being the busiest weekend in the year, was able to find our group a table to sit at, clearing the table and helping moving the bag's..we are not old or inrfirm..give the guys on the door my thanks

Fijne pub met lekker eten en. Het gebouw is geweldig mooi. Het interieur sjiek maar wel een echte pub. De stoelen en bankje zitten lekker. Het belangrijkste, het eten is goed. Pubvoedsel. We missen nog steeds de toatinahole wel. Goede keuze aan bieren.

great selection of drinks and food.. very busy with food n drinks upon our arrival but a great meeting place.

Very clean inside and polite staff. Happy with the selection of vegan options, especially after several attempts of finding somewhere that catered. The food was also tasty for everyone but relatively small portions. However, price was quite high for both food and drinks (almost £4 for a soft drink alone with some pints being double the price I'm used to) which is why I wouldn't give 5 stars.

How disappointed we were to go to Harkers especially for their pies, only to find out that there was only one pie type available. No signs up to inform us, we only found out when we went to order. They make so much of their famous pies, so to not have a full selection is barmy. Very frustrated and not happy.

Great location, fantastic interior - it looks amazing inside and outside. I pre- booked and request for a window seat was given. We loved the view. Staff were professional, welcoming and apologetic. Food choice was disappointing and let it down. We booked for 12 midday on a Sunday so lunch menus can’t be ordered from until 12 but we had to queue for 10 minutes to be told only 1 beef left but could have chicken. How do you run out of beef in ten minutes. There were not 100s of people infront of us. Clearly they had never ordered or cooked enough beef. I cook chicken at home that’s not a treat! We also couldn’t have the starters we wanted. Ran out of garlic mushrooms apparently. Get some one to buy some more mushrooms from the local shops forbgoodness sake. This is poor kitchen management. On the first weekend of the Christmas market this should have been anticipated. We had pre booked for this very reason. My husband ordered the wild boar and chorizo pie. We thought that a place that prides itself on its pies - this must be a good choice. Erm no. It barely had any meat in it and the pastry was a strange texture. He left the pastry lid. I feel just a little more forethought and organisation and I would have given it a ten out of ten. Come on Harkers - You can do it!

Food was stone cold and very bland. Staff were polite. If looking for a nice roast dinner in York I am sure there are other better options.

Booking was easy and you got back quicky to confirm. It was packed out due to rememberence day, our table was clearly marked which was good. We ordered from the app, the drinks came quickly despite it being busy, the waitress came and double checked a requirement we had with the food which we liked. There wasn't too much of a wait for the food which was good as we had 2 children and a dog. Everyone enjoyed their food, me and one of my sons had the roast beef and we loved it!

An impressive but cosy Nicholsons pub. Good selection of ale and the food is good quality and tasty. The reason for the three stars is because our plates were never cleared away in all the time that we spent there.

Very nice bar, select of beers is good and food was very tasty. Fairly priced also.

Never been here before was busy Saturday daytime as very near York Minster area. Went back Saturday night for a couple of drinks and watched first half rugby World Cup, friendly staff lovely atmosphere

I haven’t had any alcohol for a long time now and enjoy a peroni 00 or alcohol free Guinness here. I ordered one at my table as being on your own and going to the bar is a pain as you lose your table, my second beer came, poured it and took three big gulps of beer…real beer, peroni WITH alcohol in not the 00 one!!! I did eventually get it swapped and to be honest I did expect a refund as the mix up was not great for me…I am no longer alcohol free…but all I got was sorry here you go! Dreadful service and the mix up of drinks was disgusting 😞

Lovely building and surroundings, but the staff need to get a personality. They all walk around with miserable faces and there is no ineraction whatsoever. Also playing on the their mobiles behind the counter instead of serving customers. Will not be visiting there again

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, the female supervisor behind the bar was so rude towards one of her members of staff. Will not be coming here if you lot don’t know how to respect your hard working employees.
