My partner booked us in here when visiting friends in the area and at a time when the restaurant kitchens were closed for refurbishment. So this review only relates to the accommodation and breakfast. Absolutely loved the setting and the views from the Hotel are quite stunning, helped of course by the deer wandering through the gardens at that time of year. The reception is very traditional and the rooms hold a plethora of traditional fixtures and fitting all relating to "Hare's" The room we stayed in was magnificent comfortable and well laid out with everything you might expect and a few wow factors too (lighting in the bathroom) The winding corridors and staircases can feel a little cumbersome but I fell only add only add the to character. An definitely going back later this year

Stayed for a night, reception area very dark and dingy and after waiting an age for someone to check us in we ended up having to go on the hunt as no one showed. The rooms were fine, spacious but we were towards the back end of the hotel and trying to navigate the corridors in pitch black wasn’t enjoyable. On the plus side the food was good and plentiful.

So really like the surrounding areas in Pateley Bridge ,so my wife decided to book a night away for us at the Harefielc Hall . First impression was that of a ring doorbell at the entrance to the building ,after pressing the doorbell we was greeted by a friendly chap who booked us in quite quickly. Downstairs in the reception area it was very dark almost dingy and had a shall we say very foisty smell to it which continued all the way up the corridor to our room . Our room was very spacious with lovely views and was clean also. Now don't get me wrong I'm no snob but the whole place needs lots of tlc and modernisation to bring up to a satisfactory standard ,for example the blind in the room couldn't be pulled down due to the fact the string/chain was broken ,the tap for bath the came off in my hand the shower head constantly leaked ,coupled with the fact that the room was decorated entirely in hares and rabbits that seemed to follow you wherever you moved to lol it was like living on the set of a creepy version of watership down. We ordered some sides from the bar to take to our room as there wasn't any availability in yhe restaurant until a little later , the food was not very good frozen onion rings with hand cut chips that looked like they had been sat there all night ,needless to say we didn't eat them. We slept well as the bed was very comfortable and warm . Arriving for breakfast we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to a table, it wasn't busy but our breakfast did take a while to arrive and when it did we was again very disappointed, I had ordered eggs benedict but the eggs were way overcooked and hard so asked if I could have some more , it literally took another 20 minutes to make at which point my wife finished her scrambled egg on toast 10 minutes prior , we literally stood up to leave and the eggs benedict arrived ,this time cooked well I might add but by this time it was just too late . All in all the staff were friendly etc but I wouldn't stay again not for the price we paid as it just reminded me off something that GordanRamsey would be trying to save

We were staying nearby and read the reviews so thought it would be a good place to start our holiday. The staff were friendly and efficient but the restaurant was very quiet and for us was like stepping back in time. The food was rather ordinary but okay to fill a gap. The hall has a lovely setting and amazing views but really needs updating and a bit of TLC to make the most of it.

Spent 2 nights with a party of 7 friends whilst walking in the Dales. Harefield Hall is a fantastic period venue with large rooms, a restaurant and bar and good secure parking. Good to sit outside in the good weather too! Easy walking to the centre of Pateley Bridge and to be honest the right place to stay. Elaine and her small team really looked after us and made our visit memorable. We intended to eat at Harefield on the first night and go into Pateley on the second night but the food was so good on the first night we dined in on the second night as well! Breakfast eggs are from chickens at Harefield I will be back when staying again in the area!!

Lovely ambience. French onion soup was not at all authentic (it should be a brown colour, now light cream, and it should be full of flavour, not taste of stock cubes). The main courses were ok. Sea bass excellent but vegetables over cooked. Staff excellent. Great building in lovely setting. Not worth the money.

We visited as a potential wedding dinner location. The staff were lovely, the building itself is very in keeping with what you would expect. The food however ... Was just awful. It was dry and bland even with the sauce / condiments. This was true for both myself and my partner. The speed at which it arrived after ordering makes me think it is prepared in advance and then reheated. It's a shame. The staff were attentive and the potential for a great dining experience is there but the quality of the food really let them down.

Cosy bar with reasonable prices. We ate in the dining room which had a lovely ambience and the food was great. There was a delay on food as it was very busy however the staff made us aware and were very attentive, we were happy sat in the bar having a drink before dinner. Great breakfast with a good choice of cooked options. Full English was excellent. Shame we couldn't walk within the grounds although the terrace outside the bar had tables and a lovely view. Quirky decor, comfortable rooms , great food and drink along with the lovely staff made this a lovely stay.

When you meet with old friends it's good to have place that fits the bill and that's what Harefield Hall gave us. It's an interesting place the staff and management are willing and attentive. The food was interesting my steak was an interesting cut but cooked exactly to my liking. There was even a white Rioja which my friends liked a lot. And the bill split 4 ways seemed really good value to my southern wallet! So what more to ask... when can I go again! Of course.

We went here for dinner with friends a week ago whilst visiting the area. It was quiet on a Sunday evening and we were seated in the main restaurant on our own. Even so it did not lack atmosphere, in fact we felt as though we had a rather charming, cosily lit private dining room. Our waitress couldn't have been more helpful, and we were all delighted with our meals. Just sorry we live so far away, it would be great to come here more often.

Enjoyed our visit, and spent a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon on the terrace enjoying the view. One thing to note, during these times when foreign travel is so difficult we have booked a few short UK stays, and noticed that many places have bumped up their prices with the high demand. This place seems to have maintained prices pretty well and we did not feel taken advantage of. Well done, this is one place we will return to in the future

Family run hotel in a historical building. It was lovely to stay somewhere with character. Lovely old hall full of pictures and sculptures of hares (and horses). The food and service was excellent. We had a four poster bed in our standard room. Loved breakfast in the conservatory! It’s a lovely walk down into Pateley Bridge. The grounds must have been amazing. They are slowly being reclaimed from the wild. The family bought the hall some years ago, and are gradually restoring it to its former glory.

Last night of our Yorkshire tour and glad we picked this venue for our farewell dinner.Classy looking building with well managed gardens and surroundings. Impressive entry into the bar/restaurant.Although they serve food in the bar, we chose to eat in the main dining room. Spacious and well decorated with interesting paintings etc, around the place, it had a good atmosphere about it. Staff were prompt, attentive and friendly throughout. My starter was fishcakes with salad and a delightful Lemon infused sauce - delicious, whilst my wife went for another fish dish comprising mussels and prawns. Equally pleasing I'm assured. My haddock and chips was excellent, batter perfectly crispy with thick white and tasty fish within. My wife's pork belly and cackling was a sight to behold - beautifully presented and so much that we took half the meat home in a bo they supplied. Not very sophisticated, but too good to waste. Excellent wine and beer from the bar.

I just wrote a review about my stay so thought I should add one regarding the service and food in the restaurant.Well, what can I say, I had booked a meal within the restaurant for around 7pm, a good time to eat as the sun is still high so I could eat my meal with a view overlooking the Nidderdale landscape, I was greeted again by Belinda who took me to my table and offered me a drink and a wine list, the menu is very simple and not to much of an essay but detailed nonetheless, She placed a well written specials board on my table and told me what the soup was for that day, so far extremely impressed with the service.I ordered a nice pint of the Soltaire Blonde and decided to start with Prawns and Green Lipped Mussels, honestly, I do not think I have ever tasted such finely cooked mussels before and I have travelled a lot, the presentation was unbelievable, for a non corporate guesthouse they really throw out food better than some Rosettes I've visited.Starter finished after some free crusty rolls to mop up my plate, delicious!I sat and watched the dale losing myself in the valley below when in good time a gentleman called Andy brought me my main, now I have eaten some pies in my time but this pie is the steak and merlot pie, UNBELIEVABLE!!! the meat fell apart, pastry all around and perfectly cooked and presented, served with steamed vegetables and Polenta potatoes, I was asked all the right questions and decided to have my ale refilled, this pie is just impeccable and a true representation of yorkshire finery, COMPLEMENTS TO THE CHEF!!!Not a crumb left,I thought I wouldn't have room for desserts but why not, I had to go 3 course!, I was given a little board with a list of traditional puddings on it so I ordered the Sticky toffee pudding with Vanilla ice cream, I watched other desserts going out and the presentation of those were remarkable, then it was my turn...all I can say is....yum yum yum, not in my life have I ever had such a sticky toffee, soft and tasty, definitely come here if you like your food homemade and fresh, my first review and I imagine when I stay there again it will not be my last, thank you again Harefield Hall, your service, food and drink were undeniably perfect.Roy

Its over 10 years since I was last here, and decided to book a table to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. I informed the lady that I had an allergy to dairy and was told it would not be a problem. After being sat at our table, which had a stunning view, Colin the chef came to see me to ask what I would like and what he could cook to suit my requirements, normally you get an allergy book to find out for yourself. When our food arrived I can honestly say it was in my top 5 meals that I have ever had, it really was fantastic. So in all a delightful setting, extremely pleasant staff, glorious food and a wonderful evening. Thanks team

We came across this place by accident whilst strolling along the river. We had spent some time at Brimham rocks and was looking for a nice pint and something to eat. Pateley Bridge seemed to be closing for the day, and as we don't eat meat, and my husband is on a special diet were feeling a bit miffed, so decided to walk along the river. I made a joke about finding a pub as we were walking out into the countryside, when lo and behold we came across a sign welcoming us to Harefield, so we followed the path under the arch, to some steep steps overlooking what seemed to be an old tennis court, surrounded by Greek garden statues (which I love). At the top of the steps through a small gate was a very pleasant pub garden with lovely views. On entering the pub we noticed an extensive fish menu, and pondered wether to stay for a meal when greeted by a very hospitable lady who poured us an amazing local ale. The decor was very quirky and welcoming, so we decided to stay for a meal when the kitchen opened. My husband and son went for something plain, and as the fish and chips were cooked in rapeseed oil suitable for a low fat diet, and I had the salmon teriyaki (which my son regretted not having), and it was amazing, the salmon was cooked perfectly, just melted in your mouth. My son followed with a plum crumble which he said had warming spices with fresh custard, the poshest crumble he'd ever eaten, and very reasonably priced. If only we lived closer. Do go! You won't regret it.

As we were dining a customer had returned after her wedding asking for an item to be returned which she had left at the venue. The conversation got heated quite quickly and the way management spoke to her was very rude and unprofessional, particularly as this was in front of ourselves and two other diners. If I had have had my wedding here and spent thousands of pounds I certainly wouldn’t want to be spoken to in this manner, and as a customer it made our dining experience rather unpleasant. This weekend we returned not just to the County Cub Camp but to this hotel for another drink and this time a meal too. Meals don't get better than this! With fish cakes as a starter, lamb shank as a main and lemon tart as a dessert, it was heaven in a fantastic setting with an excellent host. A brilliant night to relax after a busy day of archery instruction. Perfectly finished with a smooth Irish whiskey from the oldest recorded distillery... If you ever have the chance, eat and enjoy a meal you'll never forget at Harefield Hall. See you sooner than the next County Cub Camp in 2020.

We have eaten at Harefield Hall a number of times and always had really nice food. On this visit as always the service was efficient and friendly and the meals were wonderful. The menu changes regularly making use of local ingredients. Unfortunately we were too full to sample dessert but judging by what was being served to other tables we missed a treat.

Stooped off at Harefield Hall on while doing the Brimham rocks to Pateley Bridge circular walk. Had a beef roast - was one of the best roasts I've had for a while - delicious.

Met a friend here for an evening meal. The menu was very tempting but then we saw the specials board which was all fresh fish dishes. I had King Scallops which were gorgeous and my friend had the green shell mussels and king prawns. For mains I had the Monkfish and my friend the Sea Bass. The fish dishes were excellent and perfectly cooked. It felt like a speciality seafood restaurant, maybe harefield Hall should specialise in fish dishes as they were so good. Having made enquiries they get fresh fish delivered from Ramus in Harrogate and as they don’t freeze any fish it’s best to go for fish from Thurs to Sunday as it is often sold out early in the week. Will be back.

This was such a lucky find, it was on our walking route, a circular walk between Brimham Rocks and Pately bridge, and it was perfect! The location, the view, the food, the staff, the sunshine, it all came together very nicely. Would highly recommend this as a stop on a walk, they are easily accessibly by some steps from the path that runs along the river. Will hopefully be back soon!

We visited Harefield Hall in our motorhome for an evening meal and they also gave us permission to stay overnight on site completely free as we are members of Britstops (which is a motorhome owner scheme). Anyway as previous reviews have said the food is of the absolute highest quality and the surroundings both internally and externally are very 'country stately home' style which was ideal for us because it was our meal treat in celebration of my birthday. It felt, and we were treated, like it was special. We particularly enjoyed the dining experience for many of the obvious reasons ( food, service, surroundings) but also the unusual and much appreciated over 16s age limit rule. It meant we enjoyed a fantastic meal without it being marred by noisy and sometimes badly behaved undisciplined children spoiling it selfishly for everyone else.

This is a family run hotel and restaurant just outside Pateley Bridge. The food was beautiful and the service was really good. My wife had the beef and red pepper pie which she thought was excellent and I the chicken breast which was very tasty. Although it was dark when we ate, the restaurant has a splendid view across the dale.

My husband and I visit The Dales on a regular basis, and no matter where in The Dales we go we always travel to Harefield Hall for a meal. The food has always been top notch, and the service is impeccable. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff or chef. In fact, my husband was recently diagnosed with a medical condition which needs to be diet controlled. We informed the staff of this, and the chef came and spoke to us to see how he could help. There are not many places where you would get a personal service like that. The food was absolutely beautiful, as always.

I've been to Harefeild Hall a few times on business and this time round I still have no complaints! Harefeeild is easy to find and the food is still very good! All locally sourced, reasonably priced with good sized portions. Next time I'm bringing my family! I recommend you give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Me and my partner stayed in the hotel for one night and we’ve decided to stay in as it wasn’t looking too good outside (we were planning to eat someplace else in Pateley Bridge) and what a good decision it was. We were sat in the restaurant andn we had the whole place for ourselves, the bar was heaving with locals. I’ve had the “Secret cut” steak from the regular menu (seemed very close to fillet, except it was bigger) and all I can say is: perfect. Proper hand-cut chips was just the cherry on the cake. My partner had the rump of lamb which I did not try -I’m not very keen on lamb- and she was taken away as well, it looked beautiful. The service was spot on, we’ve had the same waiter the next morning, it was nice to see him at breakfast. I would recommend both the hotel and the restaurant very much and will definetely be back if around.

Booked in by telephone at the carvery advertised on their website only to find on arrival that they no longer did a carvery. The alternative was an expensive meal in the A la Carte restaurant. The proprietor refused to make amends & restore customer satisfaction by offering us a meal at the advertised carvery prices which we would have been happy to pay - in fact he refused to even discuss it.Needless to say this rudeness was unacceptable & we chose to go elsewhere.

We took a friend to Pateley Bridge on Friday 29 September at 12.30pm for a drink and lunch at the Harefield Arms. My husband spoke the evening before with the hotel regarding lunches and asked if there was a carvery on Fridays. He was advised there was no carvey on Fridays which was not a problem. We found the place locked up and nobody about and no response to the bell. The notice on the window showed Friday opening for lunches 12noon until 3pm. This was very disappointing as we had told our friend of our previous visit for an excellent meal and she was looking forward to the experience before her return to the south. However we had a very nice meal at the Crown hotel in the centre of Pateley Bridge with excellent service and attention. Thank you Crown Hotel.

Called in for a few drinks on the Saturday and decided to stay for lunch. Great friendly service with "proper" beer and the rump of Nidderdale lamp was perfection. Generous portion of quality lamb too.We called again next day for lunch and tried the steak and merlot pie, again delicious. Friends had the Sunday roast beef dinner and wasn't disappointed. Was quiet on both days and can only suppose thats down to being off the beaten track, as beer, food and welcome was bang on.

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.

Stumbled on this little eatery while visiting Knaresborough on a Sunday lunch time. We went in to get maybe a sandwich and thought it wasn’t going to be great to be honest but ended up having a cooked lunch and it was so good! The place was busy and you could tell they were locals as they were chatting across to each other. We looked at the menu and decided to have have a cooked meal. I ordered pie chips and peas and my husband a burger with chips salad and coleslaw and a pot of tea. You could actually get a 3 course Sunday lunch for £14.50! When mine came there were no peas but another bowl soon arrived full of fresh vegetables and a big jug of gravy. Food was really good the staff were lovely. The lady said that as she had been cooking Sunday lunches she gave me some of the veg. We were thoroughly impressed and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Great food and great value for money! Definitely worth trying!

Recently stayed for 3 nights whilst at a conference. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming and chatty, room (no.4) was clean, comfortable, spacious and homely. The Full Yorkshire Breakfast was the absolute star of the show, best I've had in years, and the location spot on for the town centre shops and bars and conference centre. Highly recommend staying here

Good range of dishes from small to large. Panini was very good! Salad served with it. Crisps come with sandwiches too! Very good range of cakes too!

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
