A proper village pub with great people and a pizza to die for meat feast for the win

Amazing Cod & Cajun Rice dish - thank you we loved our food and the friendly staff.

Very sad place, I think they've given up. Lots of good ideas hinted at but it was all very tired. The Ladies was filthy, the Gents only a little bit better. The waitress was pleasant and knew how to do it but slashed jeans just not appropriate in any place taking the job seriously: anyway, she was the best thing in it. My food was burnt, but mostly tasted delicious; my wife's less so. The beer was very good. No wonder the restaurant was empty on a Friday.

We chose this restaurant as a central location for us to meet for a family Sunday lunch. Although the food was reasonable prices we found the vegetarian option of plant based steak or stuffed Pepper was disappointing. At least a Nut Roast was expected. The food was okay but my daughters beef was swimming in blood and the stuffing was served cold. Our biggest problem is the fact that it was freezing in there. Only one small electric fan heater and it was a very cold frosty morning. It was the only time I can ever remember wearing my coat during the whole meal and all the rest of the family kept theirs on too! We ate as quickly as possible, paid the bill and drove to Starbucks for coffee and cakes. It goes without saying that we won't be returning. Sorry.

Good beer. Although I didn't eat there myself, my brother enjoyed his steak.

Cracking Sunday roast and was offered more gravy. Proper roast potatoes, lots of beef and veg. Staff were very friendly

Found the little gem. Their famous handmade pizza was an absolute delight, bursting with flavor and incredibly delicious, the Sunday roast withimpeccable meat quality that was truly spot-on. I highly recommend this place.

We enjoyed dinner here 2 nights in a row as it was good the first night, great burgers and pizzas ( I didn't find out about the burger eating competition until after I had my dinner the second night). Staff were all friendly, and the Madri was great - so good there was none the second night. I'll do my best to stop off again if I am in the area for work. Only complaint was the bench outside was a bit wobbly, but not enough to ruin a night, perhaps added to the character of the place a bit.

Visiting the area from Liverpool and chose this pub for a meal based on the reviews...boy were we glad we visited! FANTASTIC all round. Fantastic food, great value and lovely host and waitress. Just wish we lived closer to visit more often. Best burgers ever!

Stopped here for a quick lunch but ended up staying to enjoy the atmosphere! The food was amazing! I'd describe it as natural and as authentic as it comes! You can tell everything is fresh and the chefs culinary skills show through in the taste. The staff were so polite and to be honest I would have stayed all night if I didn't have work to do!

After our bad experience at the Black Bull we Returned to The Hare on the Green and Not disappointed. They had a few specials on the menu which we both fancied. My wife chose battered king prawn.with chips and small salad. I chose the Sea Bass with a cream sauce with mushrooms and a salad with thin French fries. Presentation nice and excellent to our previous experience in the other village pub This is a great village pub and a nice atmosphere. We will come again. I don’t think I could challenge the Burgers like so many others where doing Hmmmm looks very good.

We recently did a family get together for 30 people. Very accommodating and provided a great selection of buffet food. The hospitality was excellent with staff who really went the extra mile. Thank you for making a great day even better.

A great little super friendly pub. Even though we arrived inconveniently late the chef cooked us the best pizza I have had in ages. Great staff and nice beers on tap too.

I couldn’t help but notice the way the “Owner / head chef” speaks to his staff, be ware of this venue and the man who runs it. I shall not be returning and I feel sorry for his employees. Awful way of running a Pub Restaurant. Also if they read this review I’d much rather them not waste their time in replying to my review and fix the issues with the venue and way it’s run. Was so upset to see this on my visit

We moved to the village several months ago and always told how great the meals where here. Although I have mainly done writ ups on Brittany with some great meals. Chris the Owner chef is very hands on and a real village character. The food all fresh and great flavours from fantastic steaks, but I usually go for the Fish from the wonderful HOME SMOKED SALMON STEAKS, with a small salad and chips, My wife had the starter Bacon croquettes as a starter very tasty with a salad just right for her with a fantastic bottle of American Rose Between us, the desserts a tasty fruit cheesecake for me and caramel ice-cream. Looking around the other tables the spareribs look superb and the pizzas look fantastic, these for another visit 🍷

Great food, Friendly service and always a friendly welcome. I stay In a hotel about a mile away and found the pub by accident. When ever I stay there now if it be on my own or with colleague , I book to eat at the Hare on the Green. The brisket burger is stunning!

Delicious food (freshly home made pizza dough, fresh, local and seasonal ingridients), good selection of beers and ales, amazing staff & atmosphere.

The ambiance and atmosphere in this pub is amazing as are the staff. We popped in for a meal one evening and it was busy. I ordered the ribs and Caesar salad. It didn’t look appetising when it arrived the sauce on top of the ribs was just a burnt blob and although I did eat some of it I was so disappointed. I should have said something but didn’t so really my fault. I will have another meal in case it was an off day. But fantastic pub for friendliness and staff.

Had a rare opportunity for Sunday Lunch with my husband and a headed down to HOTG. Roast beef and a good pint went down so well. Beef was just right with crunchy roast potatoes, tasty fresh vegetables and a generous portion of delicious gravy on the side. We were asked how we wanted our beef done too. The service was excellent with a warm welcome and ensuring we had everything we needed. Just perfect.

Not bad. Great menu selection to include smoked meats. Started with the hummus and enjoyed. I had the ribs and my mate the chicken. Both cooked just right. Service was good and beer cold. Seating available inside and out.

Absolutely incredible food. My partner had the vegan steak and it was the best she had ever had! I had a pepperoni pizza and it was equally delicious. Highly recommend! It’s also dog friendly!

We stop here as a half way point when meeting family at hitchinbrook park 2 to 3 times a year and the burgers and other smokehouse based foods have always been fab but as today we set ourselves up for a beef roast. Sadly it really did not hit the spot at all and we all left a little flat feeling dissapointed on the basis of our previous visits.The meat was great, flavourful and cooked spot on, but the accompaniments with the exception of the roast potato's were cold to touch, the red cabbage just not our taste at all and it was all let down with a really wishy washy gravy lacking any meaty substance at all.

Great little pub. Came in on Sunday for lunch with both my Nan's. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Takeaway options available during week and for Sunday lunch. Very good quality! We went as a group of eight to celebrate a birthday. The food was a little slow to come out but they were pretty busy! The chef actually came to our table to apologise which doesn't always happen. The food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They brought a cake out at the end of the meal (we supplied it but wanted it to be a surprise) with the candles lit. All in all a lovely afternoon.

I met up with friends for a Sunday roast at the Hare on the Green today. We were met with a very warm reception from the owners and were served quickly. I have to say the chicken roast was second to none with very generous portions for both the adults and children! I can heartily recommend the roasted pineapple with caramel sauce and ice cream for dessert. Thank you very much for a lovely afternoon - we will definitely be back!

Found this place by chance and am so glad I did! Friendly staff and a chef who is obviously passionate about what he does and even came out to talk to us. They can cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free & even onion/garlic intolerances. The portion sizes are pretty big so maybe skip lunch if you're going for dinner! I'll definitely be going back for the gf pizza. The pub is also dog friendly. There is no car park, but on street parking is possible.

Had a fantastic family meal on Saturday night in the spacious beer garden. I would have to say that the ribs were the star of show, absolutely amazing, some of the best ribs I’ve ever had! Everyone else had Pizza’s and they were excellent, the pepperoni was so tasty. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and really friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely return soon, shame we live an hour away!
