Hare and Hounds in Sefton

I had the mixed grill, my wife the steak and ale pie. We had won Dine out vouchers and as it has been a while since we have eaten at The Hare and Hounds so we're looking forward to it. So disappointed though. My steak was tough as an old boot, the sausages were pink and completely raw in the middle. My wife loved the flavour of her pie but said that the crust was so hard, she could barely cut through it. The Hare and hounds is fab pub for drinks but we won't be eating there again. We didn't complain as we had the food for nothing due to the vouchers but wish that we'd used them somewhere else.

4 of us went on the 8th of feb.it was a birthday celebration. We enjoyed the food and the service was second to none ….. the kitchen team came and had done a birthday plate for our friend and the sang with the lovky waitress ( am sure her name was Karen ) a very special touch . We have been a cuoke if times now , Colin the manerger is very welcoming . All in all we will return and thank you to our lovky waitress fir the special way she looked after us

Be wary when having the Sunday roast if you like ample gravy. Portion is very small, apparently you have to ask for extra gravy when you order the meal (which is free) not something you would know on a first visit. After our meal being served I asked for more gravy and was told I would have to go queue at the bar (the food would be cold by then) and order it which has to be paid for. The staff did say it was a common complaint but it was pub 'policy'. Maybe get your staff to ask the customer would they like extra gravy when ordering. Food was standard pub grub I like hot food this was warm at the most. I have been here in the week for the lunch menu which was much better.

Our group of friends go every Tuesday. What a great place ! Very cosy and s nice atmosphere to boot . The Manager Colin and his staff are pleasant and really helpful. I haven’t had a meal there but I know people who have and they only say good things about the food. . Special mention here for Karen who is doing an absolutely brilliant job of organising some activities for us 5 stars from us !!!! All in all I can highly recommend the Hare and Hounds 👍

Had a lovely visit for my 50th. Manager Colin went the extra mile to make my family birthday meal here extra special and ensured suitable seating as one of party needed accessible seating. Thanks Colin. Great value and thanks to lovely female bar staff lady who got me some strawberries to go with my birthday fizz.

Great venue for our group, great Manager! Colin the Manager is amazing! When our coffee group, with no notice, lost its venue he welcomed us with open arms! Colin and his staff have made us feel at home with a warm friendly welcome every week we go on a Tuesday morning at 11am. We are all so happy meeting up here now and feel this is our new forever venue for our group! We can all meet in a lovely environment where we are able to sit together but be separate from the rest of the pub. There are approximately 20 ladies who meet up each week. Colin has arranged bingo which the ladies enjoy and will be doing a Christmas quiz this week, we can't thank him enough for going above and beyond for our group. Big thanks too for the wonderful bingo prizes. Have a lovely Christmas Colin, Steph and all the staff! 🎄

My wife, daughter and I came for Santa breakfast. It was excellent - great food and service, and the Santa service was exceptional. Thanks again we’ll be back next year.

Breakfast with Santa was very disappointing. We have been to many over the years where they have provided entertainment, singing and dancing for the kids as well as meeting Santa. Unfortunately there was no entertainment making the 2 hour time-slot very difficult to fill. If they do it next year, they need to make sure there is some entertainment in between breakfast and the kids meeting Santa because it was incredibly boring for them. It was supposed to be 11am - 1pm but families were gone before 12pm. It just wasn’t exciting or magical enough . Although the establishment doesn’t usually offer breakfasts, they were advertising ‘breakfast’ with Santa so to have no choice in what to eat was ridiculous. My nephew just wanted jam on toast but we were told that as they don't usually provide breakfast, they don’t have jam. I just think if you’re offering breakfast, there should be more to choose from than just a cooked breakfast. The gift given from Santa was a bit rubbish too, my nephew is 7 and my niece 7 months. They both got the same gift. There should have been age appropriate gifts. £10.99 each was a waste of money, especially as 2 out the 5 never ate breakfast.

7 of us “ ladies of a certain age” enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch today at the Hare and Hounds. Quality of food and service was 1st class. All hot and well presented. We chose in advance a wide variety of courses and all were perfect. I think we had 5 vegetables and Yorkshire pudding with a wide variety of main choices. Similar choice of desserts. Extremely good value and friendly service. Only reason for 4 star for atmosphere was it would be better if more people were there but that will come I think when the word gets around. Definitely recommend and we will be going again.

Been before. This visit was for a birthday. Nice place, although cold with doors opening and shutting. No lasagne which is our grandsons favourite. Apart from this a good night.

I visited the hare and hounds and the staff and the food were incredible. Will definitely be back.

Chicken burger dry and chips overcooked Tasteless and disappointing

We went for a few drinks and ended up staying for food. It was gorgeous especially the gammon. Desserts went down a treat with the kids too. Our waitress Mia was very helpful & kind.

1 member of Staff rude and not customer friendly on the bar. Pulled a face as she had to make a cocktail. Not sure where to begin with the food! Ordered 4 meals, staff member put 1 through incorrectly meaning that 1 person in my group then had to wait more than 20 mins for her correct order, which when arrived was still wrong, that is after waiting over 25 mins for food. 1 chicken was so badly overcooked couldn't cut through with the knife. Shepherds pie did not come with Roasted carrots as advertised and the veg with it, cabbage and peas not cooked as hard. Hence why I wouldn't recommend to anyone, we were treating a family member and we all ate at different times. Not an enjoyable experience for the money paid.

Had a suprise 90th birthday party for my Mother in law on Saturday 26th October 2024 from 3pm - 6.pm from start to finish the staff couldn't do enough for us so helpful and friendly we choose the gold buffet which was excellent very good choice and plenty of it it catered for everyone's taste it was fresh and hot where needed. We take our Mum in there for a meal everytime we visit her from Salford as its her local and she always compliments the food she was absolutely delighted with everything on her birthday thank you so much to everyone involved in making her day special. I would 100% recommend the Hare & Hounds Maghull

As a regular to this pub the food is always great and service is always friendly and quick. I would recommend visiting this pub. Rachel the assistant manager is extremely good at her job.

Steak,chips2onionrings half a tomato and 2 mushroom. The steak was so difficult to cut even with a steak knife. The rest was in my opinion frozen food and bad cooking.

Went here for a family members birthday, decided to have a bite to eat while we were there. Food was of a good standard for the price but I have to say the service was outstanding. We were looked after by Rachael and Gaye-anne and nothing was too much trouble. Everything was done with a smile on their face and they treated my 6 year old niece like a little princess 👑. Some top banter with them all in good fun just made the evening complete Can’t praise them enough, really top job

Love the way the staff take everything in their stride here, there was a workman fixing a fridge and they ran around the outside of the bar to get to the other side, we were asking about a Xmas day booking and shown how to put it through online by Steph, seems like they are fully booked though because couldn’t find a slot, told to keep checking for cancellations and availability might reopen soon must be popular for xmas day though

This is my first time here and it seems a lovely spot staff are busy with it being a Saturday. Beer garden is lovely. It’s busy as the weather is lovely. Car park is quite big so plenty of space. Good array of food and drinks and it’s an Ember inn too.

My friend and I spent a lovely couple of hours in the H&H last week. Rachel and the team are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our meals were really tasty and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back soon ☺️

The smell of the food when we arrived made us hungry and we weren't disappointed the rib beef roast was divine the beef dripping gravy whatever we ordered with the steak was the best ever and the size of the chicken breast covered in bacon and BBQ sauce was huge. The staff were very attentive and friendly we will be back

Extremely poor quality food thrown together on plate. Complaints met with excuses. Returned food as cold and uncooked, treated as inconvenience by disinterested staff. Don't bother going there!

Steak sandwich was dry Mac and cheese was cold was like they microwaved it after getting it out a freezer chips were so greasy garlic bread was barley garlicy not nice at all do not recommend

We were in hare and hounds last night from 6pm to 9pm. The first pint was fine but after that we were served beer in warm glasses which makes the beer flat and not enjoyable. It seems to be coming an issue of late.

I had the sausage and mash it was amazing my husband had the gammon was fabulous chips were lovely I would give it a 10/10 the bar staff a fantastic make you feel very welcome and there customer service is spot on very friendly you need to come and try the food fantastic

Been there today Lovely food and friendly staff shame that a man on his own jut with a drink spoiled it . He sat next to a family all enjoying lunch and this disrespectful man had his phone on so loud watching videos it was rediculous so rude we felt so uncomfortable with the noise and we were 3 tables away from him.

Had my mums wake in here. Lovely understanding staff on booking and attentive staff on the day.

Would be a zero for all if possible, booked a table for 12 people in advance, paid a deposit and also let them know the food order in advance, on arrival we had to wait half an hour because our table wasn't ready, waited 1 and a half hours in total for our food only for it to be the worst kibble ever handed up to us, everyone of us were shocked and disappointed with the food and lack of service, some went home hungry because their meal was not edible, totally destroyed our family gathering, we were regulars at one time but won't be returning again.

Phoned in advance to see if they were doing roast dinner ~ yes we are. My partner didn’t fancy roast dinner so ordered fish and chips, I wanted the duo roast but not with gammon but with beef (which was also a Sunday lunch option). There is no way on the system that you can have a chicken and beef and pay extra. The gammon had the biggest bit of fat on it and was overcooked and more purple than pink. Roast potatoes ~ the best bit, nope they were frozen cooked roast potatoes. My partners fish and chips was swimming in grease, we patted the fish down with two paper serviettes which were sodden with grease and the fish was still ouzing grease out when you pressed a fork Down on it. Nobody asked how our food was despite staff members walking past and the place half empty and we’d lost the will by then. My partner was starving so home we have come to cook dinner. We won’t be back.

The service was exemplary and the waiters were fantastic. The staff are a credit to your organisation. We all loved the food and will definitely come back. Thank you for having us

Visted the hare and hounds on Friday the 8th of March as I am being taken there on mother's day only to find no Guinness, smirnoff, madri or brandy Hopefully things will be resolved by mother's day

Yet again a wonderful experience. Food beautifully cooked & hot. Staff are always polite & respectful to us ‘Seniors’. Today we had the lovely Rachael looking after us, she is so cheerful & always helpful. We come here for lunch every Thursday & really cannot fault it. Thanks Rachael & all the staff xxxx

Well, this was the very first pub I frequented - in 1972 as a 16-year old !! After 3 Brown Bitters and a Rum & Black I was anybody's :-) It was a great place back then and I'm delighted to see it lives on. Maybe I'll get the chance to visit one more time next time I'm in the UK before the reaper comes a calling.
