I went with my niece on a Monday evening. It’s a small cozy pub which had COVID-19 safety measures in place. Having said that the QR reader was the other side of the yellow line I had to put my foot 3 inches over it to try and get my phone to read it at which point I was screamed at by a elderly lady - which I later found out was the landlady - to not step over the line!! I tried to explain why I did it but she was so rude. The barmaid (who was very friendly) was very embarrassed and apologetic. We ordered food and a bottle of rose wine at £18 which I would have thought fair until I saw the label. It had a Tesco’s label and on Tesco’s website I can pick it up for £3.99! I appreciate there is always a mark up on alcohol however think maybe they should have taken the supermarkets label off first! The food was nice and fairly priced. The landlady walked around the pub first with the face shield over her head and then without anything definitely won’t be returning

We are often in the area and never really found a decent place to eat until now. Having read the reviews we popped in for a mid-week lunch with the dog. At first not that many people around, a few at the bar but no one eating as yet. We ordered our drinks and took a long look at the menu board, yep, no paper or table menus, just a chalk board with many different varieties of food on offer. Traditional basket meals, mains, specials and vegetarian selection, one couple that arrived after us asked for something they had previously which was not on the board, however it was not a problem to serve again. We just had the scampi and chips and chicken burger in the basket. Both were served with a small garnish of tomato, salad etc. freshly cooked and the chips were excellent. After about 15 minutes, more people arrived for food and what we saw was happy people with what they had selected. This is a friendly place, dogs welcome as well, and as for a bite to eat, perfect. We have found a great pub and shall return soon.

Arrived here for lunch just after 1pm. Only wanted a quick pub lunch. Not many people in, counted 6 in the lounge bar and none in the public bar. Nice day, so sat outside for 10 minutes whilst choosing meal. Ordered 1 x curry and 1 x fish and chips at roughly 1.15pm. Waited. Waited and waited. This very simple meal arrived at 2.35pm. That is 1 hour and 25 minutes after ordering!!! The people on the table next to us waited over one hour for sandwiches, they were not happy! On the point of leaving, we enquired of the sole waitress/bar person 'Is there a problem in the kitchen? She replied 'NO' we just have too many orders' Err, hello? there were 12 customers in both bars and maybe 6 outside???

I visited here recently with my family after a day out in Suffolk and it was just what we needed - traditional British food with a real local pub feel. Sadly these experiences are becoming less and less but it was lovely to visit a pub that hasn't been taken over by a chain. Staff were incredibly friendly, offering ale tasters when I couldn't make my mind up, and the food on offer was extensive and great value. We visited with a nine year old who loved the food and had a great time playing It in the expansive garden. Parking was accessible and bathrooms were very clean and modern.

The Hare and Hounds is a gem of a pub in Constable Country. My wife and I were exploring the area one rainy Monday evening and were looking for an inexpensive but decent place to eat. We didn't want gastro-pub style gourmet food, rather normal 'pub grub' type stuff. Other pubs we stopped at didn't serve food till later and we were getting increasingly hungry when we saw the brightly illuminated sign for the Hare and Hounds. The first thing we noticed when we entered was how clean and tidy everything was and how this seemed to still be a genuine local pub, not an expensive rural restaurant full of IKEA-style furniture. It also serves food all day long.

The food arrived, freshly prepared and piping hot. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the following evening. It is the best pub food I have eaten in a long time.
