I should have realised when I saw dirty marks on the front entrance. It is a basic pub. Only 2 people there when we arrived just after 12.30. The table was grimy. And wet. We waited for the rest of the family to arrive. The menus are greasy and dirty. But we had all travelled some way, and don't know the area, so we stayed. The starters were OK. Avoid the fish pie. It consisted of a very thick layer of potato, and a layer of fish, but no sauce around the fish, so it was very dry. We did mention this at the time, but no apology and no reduction in the bill. We won't be going back.

Walked in this pub this Sunday afternoon to have a quick pint with my brother and son with our two dogs. Pub was very busy and unfeasibly hot. So we ventured into the garden to escape the furnace and give the dogs more freedom to roam around. After about 10 minutes we noticed a stepped on dog poo by our bench. Sadly it seemed I was the lucky one. So we moved to another bench only a few meters away but strangely encountered several more large dog poos on our way. Some stepped in, some yet to be. So we moved toward the back of the garden. More poo. Poo everywhere! There was not a bench that didn’t provide a view of several poos within close proximity. So we promptly downed our drinks and left before any of our dogs met the same fate as I. We literally tip toed up the garden, surveying every next step to avoid another nasty accident. So first of all, what the hell is going on with the owners of these dogs? Whether they are customers or even worse the owners. Secondly why hasn’t someone cleaned them up? People are eating in the garden! And finally, surely people like us are forced to walk their newly acquired dog poo back through the pub where people are eating their Sunday roasts on mass. Clean your s**t up Hare and Hounds!

What a treasure of a pub. From the moment we walked through the front door we were made to feel welcome. The staff were very friendly and chatty. We chose to sit outside in the garden for our lunch and we’re spoilt for choice of where to sit. So many different areas, shaded/unshaded/ secluded/open. When our food arrived it was amazing. We helped ourselves to a pack of cards from the games box and spent the afternoon playing cards sipping our cold drinks on such a hot day. Absolutely recommend the pub for environment and food. Thank you 😊

First time in this pub for some time, and on arrival we went up to the bar, only to be told it's table service only. Very odd, as since restrictions have been scrapped in the last month, this was the first time we'd experienced restrictions in a pub like this. We sat at a table less than 6 feet from the bar, only to be fronted with a member of staff taking our drinks order. All the table staff seemed to be very young, and they had to write down the drinks order, only to take it less than 6 feet to the bar where they placed this down on the bar for the one bar person to serve. Whilst we were there, the staff were forever asking "Are you alright for drinks?". We didn't need to be asked, and when we did want another drink, we were happy to flag one of them down. It seemed ludicrous having this type of service, when it would have been better to be able to stand at the bar to order the drinks and then go to the table, allowing the table staff to wait on the tables that were having food served. I doubt that they would know any information about the available drinks, including brands and ABVs. It would have been better off having another member of bar staff, and less table staff. When we arrived around 6pm, there were four table staff hanging around the bar. It also seemed strange that they were all wearing long sleeved hoodies - in August. We will be happy to re-visit the pub when the operation of the pub is more reflective of the layout and service offered.

After great recommendation , decided to try this pub, after lockdown had ceased, for the moment !!. Spacious pub, good atmosphere, friendly helpful staff, great service. Lovely food, massive portions, very reasonable prices. I had the fish and chips, the chips were awesome, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The fish was big enough for 2 or 3 people, and I must admit, for the first time in my life,of eating out, I couldn't finish the fish, delicious as it was, it was just too big, so I had to concede defeat. Will be back to try the Sunday Roast , which I have , on good authority, been told is massive too.

I promised my 98 year old mother in law fish and chips for Sunday lunch as a special treat. But none of the fish bars in Woking was open. In desperation I phoned the Hare and Hounds and they agreed to provide a portion of fish and chips to take away. It took longer than expected to get there and my husband was convinced they wouldn’t start cooking until we arrived. But it was ready for us, wrapped just like from a fish bar. Service came with a smile. It was a huge portion of fish with excellent crisp chips and they even included tartare sauce. Very reasonable at £8.95! Mother in law really enjoyed it and we had some too. When things are back to normal we’ll go for a meal!

I had travelled down from Northamptonshire to visit my mum and she suggested Sunday lunch here, having had some good meals in the pub of late. It's probably been c.30 years since I stepped inside this pub so things will have clearly changed. We both chose the roast beef (£10.95) and were not disappointed. There was plenty of tender, melt in your mouth meat on the plate, with three large potatoes, homemade Yorkshire pudding and stuffing, and lots of gravy. Five different vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and grean beans) were served in a side dish - more than enough for both of us. Drink prices seemed reasonable. Overall, I can honestly say this is the best roast meal I have ever had in a pub (quality and quantity) and felt it was really good value for money.

I hadn't visited the Hare and Hounds for many years, and was relieved to find that it is still a traditional pub without any fancy trimmings, which is a good thing in my books. It offers real ale from Hall & Woodhouse, although only one variety was available on the day I visited, which was a slight disappointment. Went there for Sunday lunch with my wife. The pub was very busy and we knew that we would have to eat in the bar area because we had our dog with us. You can't reserve tables in the bar but you can reserve roast lunches for a particular. I had reserved one roast beef and one roast pork, the evening before. A table became vacant within a few minuted and we were treated to absolutely wonderful plates of food, complete with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and gravy. This was accompanied by a large dish of carrots, broccoli, cabbage, French beans and cauliflower.

This is the second time I have reviewed this public house. On this occasion I was attending a St George`s Day lunch arranged by the Woking Branch of the Royal Naval Association. We were met by the very welcoming staff to find the tables laid out not only with cutlery and glasses but the flags of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines especially purchased by the landlord and the walls decorated with St George and Union Jack flags. Now to the three course meal. I had breaded garlic mushrooms with garlic mayo. This was followed by roast beef with five different vegetables and, to finish I had New York cheesecake.all for the sum of £15 The food was excellent and properly cooked by that I mean that the greens stayed green!. This is an excellent place for associations such as ours to have a special function and a very good price.

Went for a pint yesterday and was told to leave for making too much noise in the smoking area, granted we had a few but weren't really drunk. We happily obliged and was about to leave when the owner/manager tried to start a fight with us, he grabbed my friend and tried to smash an Old Mout Cider bottle but to no avail. It was obvious he was going to hit us if he was further agitated so we just started to walk out, it was at this point he stood in front of my friend who was trying to leave and grabbed him by his collars. He was also screaming cuss words at us and generally just being unfriendly.

A group of 10 of us visiting from Australia went here based on the recommendations of a couple of us from the previous year. All the meals were quite large...particularly the ribs which overlapped the plate...but it seemed like they had been pre-cooked and left warming in an oven because the dishes were quite dry and the sauces nearly non-existent. My green curry chicken had nice large chunks of chicken, but the curry sauce had virtually dried out together with the rice. The evening was not a total loss as we enjoyed the cheeky banter with the feisty waitress.

Great value on the food and always friendly service whenever we come in. Never felt uncomfortable and we have brought our children in too. Good garden for the kids to play in and not worrying about their safety.

A good honest pub not trying to be anything else! Good selection of beer, "Donkey" burgers and dog biscuits on the bar for the four legged friends after a walk on Brentmoor Heath! The beer garden is exceptional, roll on summer!

We went to this pub with family & friends. The beer selection is good and well kept. The food select is good pub grub with an nice selection of specialty burgers. The quality of the food is very good and the service was fairly prompt considering it was a busy afternoon. We hadn't booked but this wasn't a problem, as they were able to fit us in

I have taken Family, Friends and even Business partners and colleagues and I have to say the Landlord and Landlady run a very, very good establishment!!! The staff are always welcoming, open and friendly and very polite to customers, it's nice to be welcomed in with a smile. The beers are good with a good selection avaliable!I have had several meals and even breakfasts in the pub and they have been excellent, one of the best steaks I have ever tasted was served in The Hare & Hounds.Believe me when you read this, I do not understand how you can critique this establishment, unless you eat daily in Buckingham Palace daily, or just moan for the sake of it ? And if it's the later get a hobby.I strongly recommend visiting if your in the area, the garden is lovely and a lot of detail had gone into, it's is truly lovely in the summer. To the owners of The Hare & Hounds, seriously keep up the good work!!

For a local community pub it's ok - a vast improvement on the previous incarnation but it still serves awful food. I would and have risked the breakfasts and that's about as far as I'd want to take it food-wise. Can't really provide a decent sunday roast either - More emphasis on quantity than quality - you'll never find it busy with diners . That said if you want a pint near a pleasant walk then it's a good spot. Good in the summer as the beer garden is large and comfortable with a good children's play area.

I've given the hare 2 chances,First time we went as a group, the restaurant wasn't busy but yet we waited 40 minutes for our food. When mentioning this to the owner we were met with a dismissal and no apology. The pie was absolutely horrendous. For over £12 I expected a standalone pie in a pot with some fresh veg not a measly slice and boil in the bag veg. Second time, pretty good service. I ordered a burger but yet again was disappointing. For some reason there was coleslaw inside the burger, and I cannot understand why on earth this was. The rest of the meal was disappointing, they just don't seem to care about their food whatsoever.Good pub for a nice pint of ale but pretty rubbish food.

Looking for a quick lunch whilst passing through, the kitchen was closed at my usual haunt, then I spotted this sign! Just 200 yards from the main road, its highly recommended!I had a 10oz sirloin, blue with pepper sauce (a gravy boat full!) It came cooked blue as ordered, on a hot plate with a bet of flat mushrooms under, with chips, peas and some excellent grilled vine tomatoes. Everything was fresh, piping hot and delicous!I'll certainly return.

It's a lovely pub with nice food and decent prices. It's just a shame the Landlord is an insufferable character with a superiority complex and a beer battered chip on his shoulder. I would honestly enjoy this place more if the Landlord handed the baton to someone who knew how to deal with customers in a manner that doesn't generally bother them.

Mum and dad brought us here for lunch with our 3 year old son. Food was good and facilities for kids are great. Could do with some menus other than the board on the wall and a kids' menu would be good. That said, the staff were very accommodating. The ice creams are excellent!

We visited for lunch on a lovely sunny Wednesday. The garden is very nice but we were the only people there! Food OK but full menu only displayed on boards actually in the pub which makes it impossible for anyone with a mobility problem to see.Unfortunately the venue is not very disabled friendly - although this could easily be improved - and for this reason we will not be returning.

we visit Rowledge near farnham on a regular basis and the first port of call is naturallythe hare and Hounds, great food at affordable prices, lovely outdoor area for the family and the children can run around and playin the confined area with all the usual slides swings trampolines scooters cricket bats etc.A visit to (the holt) is a must, an area of woodland tracks,a lake and visitors centre and it's just a short walk from the pub.

First time coming in here and I arrived early, upon walking in and smelling the odour of food I instantly felt hungry. I ordered a pint whilst taking a moment to peruse the menu and subsequently decided on the sirloin steak. What arrived was plentiful and looked delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and all helped by the obvious notion that their meat was sourced from a quality butcher. I think that's what set good pubs apart from your popular pub chains - quality produce. This pub has a nice atmosphere and a very large garden to enjoy with good furniture and shelter from the sun if needed. I walked away thinking I must definitely do Sunday lunch here soon. A nice pub serving quality food at a fair price is a rare breed theses days esp around Surrey and Berkshire, you either have to pay sky high or suffer the budget of a Wetherspoons.

We visited the hare and hounds for an early evening meal with our children as the pub has a lovely garden with an excellent playground. The food was excellent and very well priced, the only thing that left a sour taste in our mouth was the seemingly drunk landlord shouting obscenities across the garden about a small girl playing with a ball. I dont expect to take my children to a 'family pub' and hear such foul language used at such an early time..especially by the landlord. Sadly we will not be returning.

Having just moved into the area we needed a break from unpacking so grabbed an opportunity to go out for some food. We were welcomed by the very ebullient host mike and his team and made to feel at home straight away. Theenu is very "solid" fayre and the dishes we had were cooked and presented very well. Deserves to be much higher in the rankings and thoroughly recommend.

Been here a handful of times when visiting the area. Always enjoyed it and the gentleman owner is usually a laugh. Called in fleetingly for a bit of lunch and a drink. When it came to pay my husband checked the bill and there was an extra meal amount on there for £8.95. There was only two of us but felt the blonde woman treated us with suspicion. The barman and young girl who served us was pleasant enough but my husband had to insist to the older woman to speak to them about it. Nobody knew what it was for so she reluctantly took it off the bill. The place was pretty empty for a Sunday lunchtime so it wasn't busy enough to get it wrong. Would advise everyone to check their bill if you have a large one. We should only have had four items on there, 2 drinks and 2 meals, How hard is that? Wouldn't mind the mistake but it was how it was dealt with. Shame.

I quite often visit this pub and enjoy the lovely villiage atmosphere, great selection of pub food and friendly bar staff. It has certainly improved since a few years ago and the new owner is definately a charachter. I love this pub.

Very simply, I have tried to visit this pub twice and have ended up leaving because of the deeply insulting male owner (we fooled ourselves in to thinking he'd had an off day before). His entire manner is aggressive and almost as though he is trying to impress on you how much he doesn't care about your visit. The first time, after we had been spending money all night, he served us a drink and the literally shouted at us minutes later that it was closing time and we had to go, hence not allowing us to finish the drinks. Last night he was outraged when we asked at 9.15 if they were still doing food and when we asked to sit in a particular part of the pup, rather than another, he said 'I don't care'. He then borderline chased us out of the pub, sarcastically shouting 'bye bye'. A quick note that we are all educated professionals in our late twenties/ early thirties.

Hadn't been here for ages and wow, what a difference! Not very busy but friendly welcome, good Badger bitter, good selection of things on the menu, served promptly. Couldn't have asked for more. Right opposite Brentmoor common so good for walkers - not sure dogs are allowed as there is a house terrier. Serve full english breakfast too. Like I said, wow, what a difference. Rating isn't easy as you can't compare this with, say, The Hinds Head at Bray, but for what it is, it is very good.

Excellent food, excellent service. We had crab followed by lobster and it was cooked to perfection. Friendly and accomodating service and a good wine list. What more do you need?

A very nice pub, situated near the a30 as you enter Bagshot. I was there twice last week. The first night was fairly quiet, but it was warm enough to sit outside in the beer garden. The second time, there was a function going on, so quite a buzz. It was chilly, though, so no Al fresco experience this time. The beer choice was good, and the service was excellent. On the busy night, the lady serving (Louise, I think) was kind enough to acknowledge me instead of just ignoring me, as often happens. I am not in the area often, but glad I found this pub as it will be a good option if I am.

We ate at the rose and thistle last night, table of 13, everyone said how good the food was. The conservatory is decorated lovely for Christmas, and all the staff were friendly and very accommodating. We have booked to come back and would definitely recommend. Thank you

Very convenient for the M3. Very friendly, helpful staff, parking and a varied pub menu with home cooked classics. Decor and atmosphere a bit dated, and it is certainly not a gastro-pub (and probably proud of it!) but it is an honest, friendly place to meet up when travelling, and we will probably visit again.

First time for Sunday lunch for my birthday, generous portions but all delicious, lots of veg, delicious roast pork. This is my favourite restaurant and i don’t really want to go anywhere else. Please keep on doing what you do!
