After visiting family we discovered the Hare and Hounds in Cowfold. Excellent beer, excellent food (scampi and chilli con carne) and very friendly staff. What a delight.

Enjoyable mid-week lunch. Hubby's steak & ale pie was full of meat. As a vegan, the only choice on the menu for me was jacket potato and baked beans, but the chef kindly cooked me a very tasty chilli stir-fry with rice, which was very much appreciated. Sat at the table writing this as it’s just that good...I had the steak, perfectly cooked, and my fiancé had fish and chips again faultless... From speed of service to the actual meal there’s not a single negative comment I could say about this experience! Staff are attentive but not in your face, the table next to us the waitress (I think she’s actually the owner too) remembered their whole food order from last time- impressive!!!

V nasty landlord. Prices v high at least two pounds over usual cost of Proseco. H echased us for glasses in hsi pose Landrover which I said we had actually paid for glasses with cost of drink.! Do not go there food pricey too and not always hot or good quality.

Travelling back to London we spotted this pub for a Sunday Roast. Friendly ladies serving at the bar. Asked about lunch and was shown to a table. We both ordered the roast beef lunch. When it arrived there was a great portion of beef and a variety of vegetables. The food hot and tasty. Staff extremley welcoming and warm. Delicious dessert as well. Not expensive. Would reccommend and will return.

A good lunch - well done roasts and a decent scampi for me. Compared to previous visits this was decent with good service and food.

This is a typical country pub serving a good range of typical pub food. The parking area is fairly small, so you may have to park on the road.

I was so surprised by this lovely gleaming Pub that I joined my two friends for lunch. I decided on the Gluten Free option of Fried egg and Chips without the gammon steak. This was all offered to me with three egss(!) for £5. We decided to sit in the garden at the back of the Pub as it was a great sunny warm day, and they had annoying musac playing in the Bar. If I had any concerns it would be the music and I advised them so, before leaving, and thanking the cook for a fabulous lunch. I am leading a walk for a Ramblers Group this weekend and I will suggest this Pub for a drink/lunch at the end of the walk. A Great Find!

Staying in area and called in here on a Monday lunchtime. Pub has a small carpark and a few tables outside next to the road. Not very busy with just a few other people eating.

Called in here for lunch on our way to Gatwick. Drove past the sign at first but eventually turned back and found it. Glad we did, pleasant staff, had a very nice meal and went on our way.

We had lunch here and I was very disappointed. The time between ordering and the food arriving was very long 30 mins +. Then my order of jacket potatoe with cheese arrived as cheese (very little ) and catering baked beans (not heinz) . When I mentioned to the waitress she checked with the chef and apparently it was mixed up with another order. There was only a few tables occupied! ! Not that impressed with food at all and disappointed they could not get a simple order correct.

Visited this Pub/Restaurant for the first time with friends for our Christmas dinner gathering and our experience was brilliant with excellent food and staff and would thoroughly recommend,the food was pipping hot despite 10 different dinners being served up at the same time.

I chose the Hare and Hounds after reading good reviews. We were welcomed warmly by the young lady behind the bar. Pity the pub itself wasn't as warm! My food arrived cold, although it was quickly replaced with a hot meal. My son and his family were disgusted with the quality of their food. My young grandson didn't eat his and he never turns down food. We were frozen all afternoon and kept our coats on most of the time. Will not be returning

We have just moved into the village and thought we would try the local pub we were very impressed,the staff were very friendly and good beer,we have had two Sunday lunches there very nice,we all had roast beef 3 lovely thick and huge slices also the children's meal was a good size meal.The log fire really made it homely.

We had a family meal. 3 adults two children. Staff were really friendly and great with the children. The chef was very much in evidence to make sure we got what we wanted. Food was delicious. Can recommend lamb and cottage pie (both on the specials board) and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for!

We were passing through the village on our way home. The pub we have eaten at before is now a mini supermarket.

This was our second visit and certainly not our last. Our party had two roasts and two steak pies, yes there were four of us ! Fantastic food exactly as you would want to cook yourself at home. I know I cannot. Great roasts pots, great vegetables and gravy that you just want in a mug to drink. Friendly service and you knew the food was cooked from scratch so the little wait was worth it. Prices very reasonable. Do not be put off by the outside looks. I have driven past many times without stopping but never again. Stop serving Sunday roasts at 6pm so do not be late. Give it a go.

Found this place by luck while travelling, excellent service, lively atmosphere, fantastic food and great beer. This establishment has been under new ownership for a few months and the new owners are making a great success of it. Highly recommended.

My friend and I decided to eat out last minute rather than come home to cook.

We took a wrong turn in Cowfold and ended up having a fabulous lunch at the Hare and Hounds. It is under new management and, though I have no knowledge of the previous management, this pub was amazing. We both had the Sunday Roast special and it was excellent - large slices of REAL turkey, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, fresh crispy vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy. The servings were generous (had to let my husband finish my turkey) and the service was so friendly and solicitous, especially Debbie, who ensured that we had everything we needed. I envy those who live near this pub and hope to visit it again.

Llamamos aquí viviendo el momento para un bocadillo rápido! La calidad de la comida era excelente. Yo tenía una lasaña que era claramente casero y absolutamente delicioso. Mi esposa disfrutamos de su pollo. El anfitrión era muy acogedor y amable. Sin duda volveremos.

5 de nosotros tuvimos el pescado y las patatas fritas, pero lamentablemente, era frío, estropeado, una pieza era todo quebrado como si hubieran sido cayó! ! La lasaña era precioso, pero tenía un montón de queso en la parte de arriba. Disfruté la otra señora que pero que ordenados decía que estaba demasiado queso para ella. La carne y ale tarta era encantadora, muy tierno con un montón de carne. El personal era amable y compartimos algunas risas, pero lamentablemente la comida defraudarlos.

Lovely traditional pub serving local real ales (Harvey's). I'm glad we had booked as every table was taken. The menu was simple, but Sunday roast was all we wanted. Generous portions of excellent quality food. Highly recommended.

Buena cena con asado, fuimos en domingo así que básicamente sólo asado en el menú o la lasaña. Hemos estado yendo a este pub por más de 22 años con diferentes chefs, el asado era buena, verduras frescas y yorkshires fue muy buena y la salsa. Servicio amable y ambiente agradable. Decoración realmente necesita una reforma, pintura, gris y una alfombra nueva y sería perfecto!

Complicado este. Fuimos con una multitud bastante grande. 10 o así de nosotros. La gente que tenía la carne asada era bastante feliz, tuve una lasaña que no era genial - muy pequeña porción, obviamente recalentados. Pero el servicio era bueno (aunque un poco caótico a veces), algunos bien vino a un pub del campo. La decoración necesita un poco de trabajo y (el almuerzo de domingo) menú era tan limitado como el que he visto. Volveré, estoy seguro, ya que es local, pero se pegará al asado.

Can't fault the food, it was superb. Fast, friendly service and a reasonable price. New managers are lovely. We will be going back here frequently.

Hemos estado viniendo aquí durante años, pero esta fue nuestra primera vez cambiado de titularidad y probablemente la última. My stake was cooked beautiful. I rarely eat out but I do love a rib eye. It was a really good size, delicious chips and salad with a dressing to die for. Pudding was lovely, maybe a tad more custard, but really delicious. Well worth a visit, and although I've. Not tried it , the fish n chips are apparently great.

New owners have taken over. Much more friendly atmosphere. Leather tub chairs have introduced by the fire. A freshly cooked menu by a French chef. It's not complicated gastro food. It's just normal pub food done extremely well. I'm very please as it's my local. I walk my dogs down for dinner at least once a week. Sometimes twice.

Pedimos dos asados y nuestra hija tenía pollo goujons y patatas fritas. La comida era muy buena, las porciones son muy generosas, y era un toque muy agradable a llevar nuestra comida hijas de salida unos minutos antes de nuestro propio para darle una oportunidad de arreglar 'como se puso! Hicieron un cambio para tener la comida servida y poder cavar en mientras que su caliente como contraposición a va frío mientras faffing alrededor con cortar la comida para niños y luchando contra los sobrecitos de ketchup abierto! We needed to find a new lunchtime venue between Pulborough and East Grinstead having been let down by the standard at our regular establishment. The Hare & Hounds is nothing outstanding from the road other than lovely flowering hanging baskets decorating the front. Inside, much the same but the greeting from Harriet was the beginning of excellent service throughout.The Chef recommended traditional Fish & Chips and two chose that while the other two chose different dishes, Had the fish been any fresher, it would have still been swimming - superb, just like the "oh so tender" liver & bacon. Value for money, service, quality - this pub has it all - we're already booked to go back.

Stopped off here for lunch on our way to Arundel on the recommendation of Trip Advisor. Nice pint and the Ham and Mustard sandwich did the trick.

Visited here for the first time and I was really impressed by the food. The roast dinner was the best I've had eating out! It was all cooked spot on and can't fault it. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back again.

Pedimos un buffet fresco, comida fría y caliente una dos enorme quesos. Pizza. Nos rompiendo a las 2 de la tarde porque teníamos 12 niños que asisten a. El pub estaba immuclate, así como el personal. Nada era demasiado problema aquí. La gente que viene a veces diferentes, así que la comida se reponía recién durante todo el día.

Tuvimos una encantadora canelloni con ensalada, muy sabrosa y dos por £12, que era una gran relación calidad-precio. No estábamos sentados cerca del fuego y el radiador estaba fuera. Hacía mucho frío y, aunque me dieron mis piernas con jeans muy fría. Me mantuve mi chaqueta y guantes, comimos a la hora del almuerzo, fue una lástima.

We call here about once a month to catch upbwith friends and have a couple of pints. Good service, good ale and a welcoming fire, what more could you ask for. We havent eaten only becausethats not what we do.

We stopped here en-route to our holiday destination for lunch. We got a nice friendly welcome and the food was superb. I had prawn curry and my boyfriend had a pork burger which looked like it was homemade. Would definitely recommend this place.

La carne asada y probamos ternera, cordero y cerdo entre nosotros - era todo de buena calidad y bien preparado con una buena selección de verduras. El servicio amable y eficiente, manipulación nuestras diversas cuestiones logísticas con buen humor y comprensión. Mi sobrina jamón, huevos y papas fritas y mi hijo y un sobrino tanto tomó la cigalas. Los platos vacíos demostró que todos lo dio en el clavo. Entramos a este gran pub mientras explorar Cowfold en un día lluvioso puede. Es luminoso y acogedor por dentro, con un fuego en la chimenea en este día un poco fría. Nos recibieron agradablemente, sentado en una mesa (entre muchos que eran sorprendentemente "reservado" ). Optamos por una hamburguesa de cordero, con acompañamientos con patatas fritas y col. La hamburguesa era un buen tamaño, húmedo y sabrosa; col y patatas fritas eran igual de bueno. Disfrutamos de una pinta mientras comíamos - y secos. El propietario y el camarero/camarera era simpático y amable y simpático. enseguida nos vimos por qué había tantas mesas reservados, como los lugareños presentó a la hora de comer. El sentido del humor y bromas eran una delicia. Fue una gran experiencia, que disfrutamos mucho.

Fui con un amigo en 12/05/15 para una cena y quedé muy satisfecho con la comida, el servicio, la limpieza y el ambiente .

We ate in this pub for the first time today.Not only was the food very good and well presented they also understand special diets. I would be happy to recommend this pub if you need to eat gluten free or have other allergies.All you need to do is tell them your dietary needs when you book or at the table.Great staff and a great chef.Coeliac society member.

Visited here for a catch up with a friend. Obviously quiet on a Monday evening but food came quickly with good choices on the menu. Dessert was lovely; apple crumble and custard. Nice to see different lagers on tap too. All in all a very pleasant evening.

Proper pub atmosphere immediately on entering, and restaurant area fully part of it, though in a distinct area at one end. Helpful and friendly staff, straightforward ordering process. Food unpretentious, but great quality and no shortage of it, as in some venues! Certainly a feel-good factor here, and to be recommended.

The mosr amazing foos the friendliest atmosphere, the staff are little gems and the Landlord, a Chef who loves his work! We love this place, the Whitebait is the finest we have ever eaten the fish, brought to our table prior to cooking for approval! Was divine! The Beer garden is a little haven and overall, this is our favourite pub/restaurant in Sussex. We love it and it will always stay special for us.

Very good food but not a huge menu, food comes out quickly and tasty, quite reasonable prices, worth a visit

We only get to these parts about 3 or 4 times a year but when we do we make straight for the Hare and Hound to enjoy excellent food, friendly staff and great prices.On our fist visit Game Pie was on the menu but the customers ordering before us ordered it all for their table so I ordered something equally delicious. As we were leaving kitchen staff came to me with a single but quite large piece of game pie in tin foil left over in the kitchen for me to me to take home (no charge). It was probably the best pie I've ever tasted so on our next visit south I couldn't wait to try it again. Alas, it wasn't on the menu that night but I was encouraged to let them know in advance of our next visit and it would be there waiting for me. And so it was, last Sunday I enjoyed every mouthful of game pie. Thank you Kevin, Wendy and all at the Hare and Hound and we'll see you again on our next trip.
