Had a lovely meal here after visiting Leonardslee. Plenty of space available and has a lovely ambience. Food was fantastic and really reasonably priced. Would definitely visit here again.

Popped in for lunch on our way home. Friendly welcome, cosy fire on a cold day. Excellent menu. Pulled lamb lasagne with Greek Salad delicious. Husband’s choice of BBQ ribs, best he’s had in a long time. Reasonable prices. Will definitely be back.

We visited yesterday for our second visit. This is a lovely friendly pub with a nice ambiance. The food is really good, tasty, well presented and a nice range to choose from on the menu. We each had a different choice and every dish was excellent. Can’t wait to visit again.

We go out for a meal locally every Thursday evening and tonight we had the worst meal we have ever experienced. Over cooked very small prawns for a starter each and pathetic portion of ribs on a cold plate for our main course. Apparently they have a new "chef". Well they need to sack him or her. Very embarrassing for the very pleasant bar staff. We won't be troubling them again.

Fabulous early dinner for two. Can recommend the steak and kidney pudding! Very friendly staff and good service. Lovely atmosphere.

Wow! just wow! I came here with my family to celebrate my grandfathers birthday and I have to say we really hit a jackpot with this place! The service was impeccable, greeted with smiles from everyone. This instantly made me feel welcomed. I ordered a mocktail as I do not believe in alcohol, and it was refreshing and delicious. I told the lady behind the bar to surprise me and boy she did just that! All of us ordered a variety of roasts and I consumed mine with much pleasure. I still dream about those potatoes. The atmosphere was so homely, which I loved. The chef even came out to say hello to all of the customers, what a pleasant young lad. I love the sense of community and family this pub has. This place really made my grandfathers birthday that much more memorable. This will be my go to quaint country pub from now on!

This is a real gem. Found via TripAdvisor as wanted a place to meet in this area. Had an excellent lunch, nice atmosphere really friendly attentive staff and finally very reasonably priced. We will definitely return and highly recommend this eatery.

On the drive home back to the Isle of Wight we followed a sign to the Hare and Hounds. We wanted somewhere to stop for a quick afternoon meal. We stepped inside and were greeted with a busy, but welcoming pub. We ordered our food, fish and chips and chicken and mushroom pie, switching the mash for chips, with brocoli stems and gravy and 4 pints of coke. When our food arrived 😋, the pie had come by mistake with mash, the lovely lady serving apologised, and advised that chips and extra gravy were being prepared and to keep the mash. Well the food was AMAZING, it was tasty, filling, freshly cooked, great value and the pie was the best homemade pie I've ever had. I only have 1 slight niggle, the gravy was too peppery. Wish we could of stayed longer, but had to get a ferry. Congratulations on an amazing pub, with amazing food. We will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

Went to the Hare and Hounds mainly because it was roughly half way for meeting a friend for lunch. Not maybe the most tranquil of settings but the interior was very pleasant. Fairly wide choice of food, at least for lunch, which arrived fairly quickly and was very good. Decent selection of real ales. The barmaid was also very friendly. Although it was a “halfway (public) house” it’s one I’d probably make a journey to again.

We called to see if they had availability and despite being very booked they said they could squeeze us in. The staff were lovely and the roasts were literally the best my wife and I have ever had. The slow roasted pork belly was incredible. And the pricing was reasonable! Will be back very soon.

A party of four of us were looking forward to attending this pub after seeing rave reviews but the food was almost inedible. My prawn cocktail starter was swimming in a tart lemony water and I couldn't detect the marie rose sauce which was supposed to be on a bed of lettuce.....obviously defrosted shrimps. The main courses were even worse with burnt scampi, microwaved chicken with a thick piece of bacon on top and a slop of glug poured over the top. The menu said that the chicken would be wrapped in ham, not last night's leftover bacon that was 1cm thick. All in all a terrible meal. We certainly won't be back. Perhaps they need to employ a chef instead of a cook that zaps everything in the microwave?

My partner and I were travelling along the A272 and looking for somewhere to have lunch when we spotted a sign to the Hare and Hounds and decided to take a look. We found a nice quiet little pub with friendly staff and an excellent lunch deal at a reasonable price. My partner decided to have the Prawn Cocktail as a starter and said that it was probably the best one she'd ever had. There were a couple of slight glitches as we'd both ordered the Gammon, Egg and Chips, but, shortly after we'd ordered, the young lady came out of the kitchen to apologise because they'd run out of gammon, but they could do bacon instead and we both decided that would be fine (which it was). Also, I'd ordered the Apple and Pear Pie with Crumble with Ice Cream for dessert, but the young lady had to apologise again as she had had a problem making the topping, so I just had the ice cream on its own which was very nice. The only slight down mark I'd make was that the food, being made to order, took some time to prepare and it would have been good if she could have taken all of our order in one go so there wouldn't have been such a gap between courses, however that was a minor issue and it certainly won't stop us going back there again some time. Definiately well recommended.

Closed at 4pm despite their own website said they were open all day. Tried to phone later in the evening to book- phone was not answered.

We arranged to meet here as a half way place to meet family. We had such good service, cheerful and professional, the food was delicious too

We stopped at this pub as we were visiting Cowfold, also as it was a nice day we thought we would take advantage of this. The bar person was friendly and they had a good range of lager and some nice sounding food on the menu. We ordered some dishes to share and a couple of drinks, the food when it come out was nice looking and good portions and tasted really nice. We would recommend and go back again.

The service is always exceptional, the food fantastic and the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. They hold regular events, for example quiz nights and live music, which are always worth visiting.

We have often passed this pub and finally decided to venture in after a visit to the local Gardens. We were not disappointed. The sign outside said "friendly welcome and great food" and this just about sums it up.
