So today went with a large party to the main restaurant. Young girl rude, asked for meal for my daughter (that you could get in the bar), shes a fussy eater. Repeatedly told no can't do that, it's the owners rules. Well owners if your reading this thats a pathetic rule. There was 13 adults so dont see why a child can not be catered for for a simple chip cob (we'd have paid the full meal rate for the set menu as we stated).

Roasted potatoes hard and looked like they'd been cooked early on as they were black on outside. Parsnips were indescribable, the only part of the carvery that was nice was the meat.

Lots of staff but still took asking 3 separate people to clean our table. Quality of Sunday carvery was disappointing. Vegetables didn't seem very fresh and all the parsnips were burnt. Expensive for the quality received.

It had been a while since our last visit. I think the carpet was new but everything else was just as comfy and reliably good. At this time of year no one sat outside in the garden! There are lots of tables in different rooms and the kitchen staff must be amazing because food doesn't take long to arrive piping hot. We had the homemade beef and ale pie which came with freshly prepared veg and potatoes of choice. Local beer choices are good.

Went looking for a nice place to eat on an overnight stop with some friends and on recommendation took a longer than usual drive to the Hardwick Inn. Nice old style pub and fortunately quiet as it was a school night. Food was good but the night was rounded off with a few nips from their vast whisky selection, they even have a 4 page whisky menu. Great

Last time i stopped here was 2015, i told my wife that i would eventually take her to the Hardwick inn, lovely sunny afternoon, we could have eaten outside, we opted inside, quite a few different rooms to sit in, you really need to have a look round first. we opted for the "lite bite" steak and kidney and the steak and Stilton pies. Nice food, did not feel rushed, loads of whiskey to choose from.will definitely return.

The Hardwick has been one of our mainstays over the last twenty plus years and never lets us down. The quality of the food is excellent. The service is fast, efficient and friendly. The range of food and drinks is extremely varied and also includes a ‘light bite’’ option on most of the menu, which is very necessary for my mum and sister who don’t have very big appetites and the normal portions are exceedingly generous. The building itself is lovely - an historic coaching inn set at the edge of Hardwick Park.

My first time eating here, we had visited Hardwick Hall with friends, then on to the Hardwick Inn for lunch. Table booking was easy by telephone, and the dining room had big windows from which you could see the beautiful countryside outside. The food was excellent (I had beef lasagne with jacket potato and fresh vegetables). You certainly would not be hungry after a meal like that. The service was excellent and staff so friendly and helpful. We shall certainly return for more of the same in the future.

I booked a table online for a special family celebration with members travelling a long way for the day. I used their website booking sheet several weeks before and rang 8 days prior to the day to double-check only to be told my booking had most likely been 'spammed out' despite it being my personal email address and the restaurant had since been booked up. Whilst discussing it over the phone the manager hung up on me mid-sentence. Rudeness beyond belief! Politeness costs nothing. He could have booked us into the lounge area as a gesture of goodwill but refused as presumably he was more bothered about making money from whoever came to fill that table first rather than being invested in customer care. Their online booking system is clearly not fit for purpose and their management not bothered about rectifying their mistakes. We have been left unable to find another venue at short notice so our celebration plans have been ruined. Would not recommend.

Drinks ordered, I had a pint of Timothy Taylor's and my partner opted for a soft drink. I chose the Shepherds pie and my partner had a prawn salad sandwich. Called here for a meal on my husband's birthday. First of all the room we sat in was freezing even though there was a little gas fire on. The menu is vast but we decided on whitebait to start. This was supposed to come with tartare sauce but when there was none on the plate we had to ask for it. I then had rib-eye steak which I asked to be cooked medium rare but it was medium at best. My husband had the rump steak which he asked for medium and it was definitely well done - no pink in site. I wanted him to send it back but he didn't really want to be eating his on his own later. My husband's plate also came without the vegetables which my plate had. I have to say we used to rave about this place but i think the standards and the quality of food has slipped somewhat. We’ve been eating here for over 20 years and not once have we had a bad meal. This is traditional pub grub at its best. A full menu and a well stocked bar awaits weary walkers and hungry visitors. The pub has a myriad of different sized rooms, some with glorious roaring fires. The portions are for hearty appetites and it’s rare that we can fit in a pudding. I won’t recommend any one dish as they are all good. But if I had to stick my neck out then it’s one of their pies with extra gravy.

Veg seemed to be a cheap mixed frozen bag, again overcooked. Potatoes were nice! Other diner’s food in my group seemed a similar standard. Potentially nice surroundings but be prepared to be hit by the overpowering smell of toilet cleaner when you come in and step over literally hundreds of cigarette butts on the grass in garden area - why no ashtrays? Very overpriced for the standard, definitely paying for the historical building

the service was great, food was excellent, only complaint was the carvery area... very small if there is a queue then you could be in it for a long time. There was only 2 people in front of us and it took ages

We have been known to be fond of this establishment. But when visited today we received half hearted dishes for us and our guests joining us. I ordered the smaller size salmon and got a quarter of a piece of salmon for barely a few pounds less than the full dish. It looked disgraceful split in to. My partner ordered large Cumberland and got two mini sausages which where burnt. Service was terribly slow and unhelpful when looking for space for a young family. Will NOT be returning any time soon.

Visted here for the first time this month. We opted for the carvery, the beef was over cooked and had no taste. The vegetables were ok but nothing special.

Stopped for dinner on a Friday evening, was fairly busy. Staff were helpful in getting us set up with a high chair for the little one. Meals were a good size and came out fairly quickly.

We actually booked our table in advance, to follow on from our visit to Harwick Hall. Thus pub is situated directly on the exit drive out of Harwick Hall.

I can honestly say I have never before experienced the level of rudeness that I was exposed to at this place, when we went for lunch last weekend. We'd visited Hardwick Hall and had booked into the inn for lunch afterwards. The place was absolutely packed, which we thought was a good sign. However I now believe they only get so busy because they've got a captive audience constantly flowing out of the hall and no competition whatsoever in the local area. The rudeness started with the first waitress who came to serve us. I asked her if she thought we wait for a long time given how busy it was. 'Wait for what?' She snapped. 'The food' I said. 'What food?' She asked, looking genuinely confused, and in a very rude tone. 'The food we're about to order!' Said I. Honestly, what did she think we were there for? Anyway we ordered and she went away, clearly bored of us already. The starters came, pate with toasted sliced white bread and some pink coloured runny stuff in a plastic pot. To be fair, the pate was really lovely. Not sure what the pink stuff was. There was absolutely no flavour so I couldn't identify it. Then our mains. Oh dear. Barnsley chop which was a massive central bone with literally a mouthful of meat either side. I'd asked for it to be cooked pink, which again had seemed to cause the waitress some confusion. It was as dry and overcooked as you could get. The vegetables were so overdone, the broccoli was actually yellow. And the chips. Oh my Lord. Soggy, limp, insipid. Just awful. I naturally explained my disappointment to a different waitress who promptly shot off to get her manager and that's when the fun really started. He sneered at me when I explained the problem, yes, he actually sneered. He said there couldn't have been anything wrong with the chop because I'd eaten it. No, I said, there'd only been two mouthfuls of lamb to start with and it had been pretty terrible. He was surly, argumentative, and just really unpleasant. He bragged how great the reviews are for this place. Well he should read some of the shockers I've seen!! Because he was so rude, I actually refused to pay for both main courses (my partner had had steak. A whole other story there..). He was stunned! He even said he'd just been about to give us complimentary starters but wouldn't now. I just laughed and said I was happy to pay for the starters, they'd been lovely, but he wasn't getting anything for the mains. Wild horses wouldn't be able to drag me to within a mile of this place in the future. Just terrible.

An amazing array of foods from the menu here. Everything is of great quality and the prices are fair. There is such a lot of choice, you will feel spoiled.

We dropped in for a carvery as our chosen venue had no space. It’s average at best. The chef doesn’t know what salt is, and the meat was bland and tasteless. The only positives I can pick is that the veg was all cooked well (not over done or mushy) and the gravy was ok. Yorkshire puds were homemade, but again lacked any depth of flavour (and you probably used less eggs than the average person would). Overall it was ok, £10.95 each and saved me cooking or washing up. The meals off the main menu looked a lot better so we may return to try those. But I’d definitely avoid the carvery in future!

A popular pub next to Hardwick Hall, with limited parking on site but a large overflow car park nearby. A good family atmosphere with function rooms, should you want to celebrate a special occasion. Food is freshly prepared on site, so you are in for a good home cooked experience. The pies are especially good, although if you are having the meat and potato pie, you may find the chips a bit too much potato to handle.

It was waiting for me as I exited the Hardwick Hall property. The food was good but not great, same for the decor. It's an historic inn which earns it points from me.
