Harbour View Cafe in Scarborough

This place is amazing the sweet milky coffee with a bacon bap is one of the things I go to Scarborough for. My father n law and I love it here as for some other comments saying it’s expensive I don’t agree, I thinks it’s great value for money. The staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I also love theme if it the theme hasn’t changed since I’ve been going for 20 + years and the quality hasn’t changed. I just love it.

A proper cafe including attitude … there’s more hair on the premises than clothes 😂 Listen we are here food was ok. staff young and old were not overly friendly and although there were only 3 small tables occupied we waited quiet a while for takeaway

Have been many times for the best breakfast in Scarborough but have only just tried the Saturday evening menu It was fabulous, beautifully prepared and presented fish and seafood Thank you

Arrived to a full care but the last serving managed to squeeze us in which we were grateful for. We both ordered the full breakfast with drinks. The full breakfast comes with either poached, scrambled or fried eggs. We were not asked which we wanted so I asked for lightly cooked scrambled eggs as I do like them slightly runny. Whilst waiting it was hard not to notice the number of flies in the cafe. I know it's above the fish market but it was very distracting and there was at least 15. When the breakfast arrived there wasn't scrambled eggs but there was overcooked fried eggs. The bacon was extremely overcooked and was very salty. The hash Brown's were overcooked they were just much inside. The same for the beans. The lady serving was nice and we heard her say that she was on her own so we didn't mention anything. The cafe was very full and we'd waited quite a long time for the food to come as it's freshly cooked so we didn't want to wait for a replacement. I've looked at other photos that people have posted and their breakfast looks fabulous. Unfortunately for us on this day it was very disappointing.

To see my wife’s face light up as we entered the Harbour Cafe on or recent trip to Scarborough, was a joy. She hadn’t been in over 52 years, when she was a small child. She instantly ordered a Knickerbocker Glory , as it was her favourite all those years ago. She said it tasted exactly the same “ Fabulous “. The American ice cream parlour theme is marvellous, and the staff are excellent!! I had the largest ice cream I’ve ever seen!! And wonderful value. Highly recommend and we will definitely be going back to rekindle those happy memories.

Discovered this place a couple of months ago when we first moved to Scarborough, managed to make it up the stairs and inside this time. Great views overlooking the harbour and the seafront. Quite spacious inside complete with a balcony to sit on when the weather is good. Dog friendly. Good choice of breakfasts at a decent price and plenty on the plate. Had a bacon bap which was full of bacon and nicely cooked just how I like it. Staff are attentive, friendly and chatty. Great place for the locals! See you again.

Am visited for breakfast, myself my two little girls and two frenchies, we sat outside on the balcony and it was beautiful. The staff are lovely very friendly and welcoming, service at our table , I ordered two extra sausages for my dogs , these came out chopped up and in their own dog bowls . My youngest ordered beans in toast and a sausage , fantastic portion and she was happy , my oldest ordered a sausage sandwich, she said the bread was nice , and she’s fussy about sausage she ate every bit of sausage. I ordered the avocado and egg on toast the egg yolk was bright and beautiful the avocado was delicious with a slight chill kick perfect . I can’t recommend this cafe enough ! The coffee was lovely as well . I little bit of heaven in a very busy place/ beach front.

All show no knickers I am afraid to say. Lovely staff, fresh food, great chips, peas and home made tarter sauce. Query why oh do all restaurants want to cut bread into triangles very odd. Anyway nice fresh bread and nice butter. Spotlessly clean and well presented. Plus great views of the harbour. However, the fish. Was 80% batter and a tad greasy but very crispy and 20% fish. A bit disappointed to be honest. We went small fish dinner and for 2 it was £22 which I thought was a good price as it included everything apart from the fish! But what fish we could find was very nice. There was other stuff on menu which we saw come out which looked very nice. But for a regular visitor to Scarborough it was a nice new find. We will be back to try other items plus very doggy friendly

Nice spot out on the pier which has been done really nice on the inside. Friendly staff and good selection of options for lunch - from simple sandwiches or jacket potatoes to fish and chips and seafood. All in all a good lunch with a view for a reasonable price.

Had breakfast here, very tasty and much cheaper than many others around. Only problem is you’re charged £1 for each extra you want on breakfast so can bump up the price. I had fisherman’s breakfast which includes 2 of everything with 1 bread & butter or toast, beverages extra. Service good and staff friendly. Will definitely be eating here again. I feel mushrooms and drink should be standard in full English and not an extra.

A great little find! We stayed in North Yorkshire for a week and enjoyed some lovely meals out, lunch at this restaurant was probably the best of the lot. The location is great, you really can look out and watch the food being landed right in front of you! The range and quality of the dishes looks very good, certainly the seafood we tried was delicious and good value for money. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Bearing in mind the quality and size of the dishes, the food is also good value for money. Whilst the premises aren’t huge you never feel cramped at all. All in all a great place to try for top quality seafood.

Had a regular breakfast as we arrived in Scarborough early. Was an excellent breakfast with good quality ingredients. Highly recommend

We were looking for a lunch venue on a day trip to Scarborough, we spotted this one in the morning and decided to give it try, it was a great decision. Located on the fish quay we had high hopes of good seafood and we were not disappointed. The seafood chowder is heavenly, if you are not very hungry it’s is all you will need. Picking a second dish was a challenge, the crab and lobster were tempting but I opted for the Scampi and it was excellent (will return for the lobster). Eating fish whilst watching the boats unload their catch, with the magnificent castle as a back drop, and welcoming friendly staff I highly recommend this restaurant.

I visited this little cafe this morning with my friend and our little girls. We hadn't booked but we were lucky enough to get a table.Very friendly staff, beautiful views, yummy cakes and very clean.We ordered 3 slices of cake (they were large slices and very nice), 2 flavoured lattes and 2 blackcurrant drinks and the bill came to £18.The breakfasts looked really good so will definitely be going back!Only negative (I don't want to give a negative but its only fair if I'm reviewing) was no baby changing, but I will say they have a large toilet so you could take a pram in there to do it, also we had to carry the push chair up stairs to get in so maybe not accessible to some but there's not much that can be done about that as it's part of a larger old building.Overall a very pleasant visit and will definitely be returning!

The weather was sunny so we were able to enjoy lunch on the balcony. You can see all the activity in the harbour. I had a dressed crab and my husband had a crab sandwich. Both lovely. Efficient service.

Worth walking past the old lobster pots and nets along the quayside to get to this gem! The cafe is lovely and has a great view over the harbour. It was very popular and now we know why! Dressed crab and prawn salad and the seafood chowder were delicious and we've already planned our next lunch there later in the week...

Walk past the sea food markets and you will find this great little cafe. Good selection of food including 4 or 5 vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly staff too. Welcomed us in and checked everything OK. Fish and chips was great. You can tell it was very fresh. Lovely views over the harbour up to the castle.

Brilliant place. The food and decor here are excellent. There is a great range of brilliantly prepared sea food. I had fish and chips which were far better than the famous Whitby ‘Magpies’ ones I had the day before. The young staff are fabulous, efficient polite and chatty. Full marks.

Had a really nice breakfast here, the place was very busy so don't be surprised if you can't get in. Service was fast, prices were ok and the produce used was all good quality, can't really ask for more!

Got a take away cappuccino.. was really nice and could taste the coffee. a nice pleasant lady serving.

Don't be surprised if you cannot get a table here, when I called in at 10am it was very busy. The breakfast I had was very good, and reasonably priced for the amount I had, would definitely recommend this place, views are interesting too

Great dog friendly place to eat. Went there for a birthday breakfast and wasn’t disappointed. Really tasty food . Would recommend.

Called in whilst down on the seafront. The cafe is located on the first floor of the West Pier buildings. There is a good selection of staples, as well as a specials board. The prices were good and the place clean and friendly. There is a balcony overlooking the harbour, which owing to the weather we decided not to check out. Well worth a visit!

Very good cafe with wonderful views. Staff were very welcoming. Food was delicious, all our party had the fish and chips meal with bread and butter and a drink. Good value and very filling. Interior was tastefully done with a bistro atmosphere! Would highly recommend.

We stubbled across this little gem. Lovely breakfast, reasonable price it included toast and a drink. Fantastic view over the harbour. It was full but we were served really quickly.

We visited this cafe yesterday we had a breakfast and coffee - it was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpfull, the breakfast was nicely plated and cooked well, the coffee really good the cleanliness of the cafe and the toilets was very good - we will certainly be visiting again the next time we visit Scarborough.

You can see both bays - that’s a plus, see the working harbour, a further plus; and look inland to St Mary’s church and the castle. All three front of house staff were delightful, attentive and particularly patient with one idiot who ordered a coffee and then ignored repeated polite calls to identify himself. In the end the staff asked everyone in the place until they found him (He had moved table which is what threw them). The English breakfasts were good quality ingredients - that’s probably only true in 50% of places serving breakfast, with often the sausages and the bacon being economy versions. Black pudding served - again too many places don’t. Generous portions and toast served with the meal not hours before it. Huge glass of apple / fruit juice or decent mugs of tea / coffee and bread with butter and the bread cut reasonably thick. It’s small, more than four in a group need to use more than one table or move chairs, but well worth a visit. Nearby parking and near old town, the north bay and not too far from the cricket ground.

Everything fresh and hot. Staff friendly and would definitely recommend to everyone. We will go back

Have visited this cafe on several occasions ,we visited again on 17th of November the breakfast was as good as ever , friendly staff . Opens early morning so handy for me as I am an early riser will visit again on next visit to Scarborough

Called here for breakfast earlier this week. Weather was grim but didn't spoil the lovely view while we enjoyed our breakfast. We both had the breakfast omelette which was also served with toast. Very tasty and a lovely change to a full English. Staff really friendly too. We wouldn't have known about this little gem if we hadn't spotted it in past reviews. Will definitely call again and would recommend to others.

Went for a day out to Scarborough and looked at places to eat and this cafe came up and I must say we wasn't disappointed, fantastic home cooked food and great service too!! Will definately be back.

What a find the Harbour View Cafe is!!! My wife & I visited today & we both wish we found this place years ago! After years of visiting Scarborough we both had never heard or seen The Harbour View Cafe until a friend recommended it to us & from now on we won’t be eating fish & chips anywhere else on future visits to Scarborough. I have a fish butty just expecting a small piece of fish in a sandwich! Nope!!! A WHOLE FISH in a bun!!! & I was cooked to perfection!!! I have included a photo with the fish butty next to my e-cigarette as a comparison. Can’t wait to visit again!!!

Had we not been recommended the cafe, we wouldn’t have known it was there, proper hidden gem.

Visted today, good value fish and chip deal. Lightly battered large boneless fish, only downside was some hard chips but still very tasty.

Wow what a find! we wanted somewhere to sit down inside and enjoy fish and chips and couldn’t decide which of the many fish and chip restaurants on Scarborough front to visit. Having visited the world famous Magpie of Whitby the week before we knew it would be hard to find somewhere that could compare, however we found somewhere better! Yes better! The fish are so fresh, huge and cooked to perfection, crispy golden batter on the outside and moist, flakey and succulent on the inside. We ordered 2X fish, chips, homemade mushy peas and bread and butter which was £16 for both. Our kids had the kids fish and chips which was a normal size fish and chips at most chip shops. The cafe also sells breakfasts which looked amazing but we haven’t tried those yet. The cafe is small/medium sized and a traditional English style cafe which overlooks the harbour and even has a couple of small tables on the veranda outside. We would never visit any other chip shop now we’ve found this place. Oh and they staff were very nice and smiley and made our family feel very welcome. I could not fault the place at all. Awesome food!

I'd heard and seen great reviews on here so took myself down for a Full English recently, it was a beautiful breakfast, not one I could eat every day because they're not shy with portions but easily the best breakfast in Scarborough and I've been visiting 30 years, the fried bread is unbelievable and cooked in beef dripping exactly the way it should be. I will be back there in a few weeks. Lovely staff too and the view is spectacular

The cafe, located on west pier, is a nice spot for a good hearty English breakfast. The cafe is lovely and so is the food but the people there are genuinely nice and friendly. The drinks were quite hot but it was nice on the cold morning. Had my reservations, but would now go back.

Visited Scarborough many times and never seen this place. It may not be much to look at but the food and the service certainly makes up for that! Oh and the harbour view is also delightful.

Walking in through the back door does not do it justice! Gorgeous, spacious building with two floors to choose from. Great menu with lots of choice, cooked to order and plenty of fresh fish.

Staying over in Scarborough I googled 'best places for breakfast' the Harbour View Cafe was at the top of the list and I can see why... with its stunning view of the harbour, friendly staff and reasonably priced yummy breakfast it's certainly a hidden gem!!!

Was recommended to visit, and we weren't disappointed. Good home cooked breakfast, good value, friendly staff and customers, and smashing mug of tea!! Over looking the harbour? What more could you want?

We came here for breakfast twice while in Scarborough. It's well worth seeking out. The staff are friendly, the food is excellent and the cafe is clean, with nice decor. It overlooks the harbour and even has a balcony if you want to sit outdoors. It is accessed up a metal staircase so wouldn't be suitable if you can't manage them. Thanks for our delicious breakfasts.

Came across this cafe on our second morning of our 5 day visit and took our two children in. All four of us got seated and ordered four good old traditional full english breakfasts.

We visited here for lunch three years ago with our children and have talked about it ever since. We were desperate to come back so have visited Scarborough for our honeymoon. We were never in any doubt this would be the first place we would have a meal. It did not disappoint. Absolutely first class fish and chips. Friendly helpful staff and lovely surroundings. Thank you.

It was a very busy and hot day and a market day, we decided to eat a little later, although we had to wait 45 mins, the food was amazing, tasty and cooked fresh.great chips very impressed.

Another trip to Scarborough means another visit to Harbour View Cafe. A busy day as it's the SeaFest so lots more people around. However, we managed to sit at little tables on the balcony - another hidden gem!

The Harbour View offers more than just fish & chips - it's a 'locals' cafe open from 6.00am till 2.00pm so if you want lunch don't leave it too late!!

Ate here for fish & chips and thought it was great. The food was lovely, cooked fresh to order and the fish was done just right with the right amount of batter. Nice chips too.

One of our favorite things to do when traveling is seek out small, one of a kind joints on piers, wharfs, harbors, etc. and the Harbor View Cafe is a real find. Out for a morning walk along the beach in Scarborough we came upon the cafe almost by accident as it's located on the 2nd floor of the wharf building with commercial fishing and other marine businesses below. Upon entering the cafe we were greeted by a very friendly staff, a menu with plenty of breakfast items to choose from, good coffee and a great view. The cafe is small but very comfortable and outside seating overlooking the harbor is available. Our breakfast of eggs, bacon, tomatoes, toast and coffee could not have been better! Had we stayed in Scarborough longer we would certainly have gone back for lunch as well. Not fancy, but this is where the locals go too so don't miss it.

Couldn’t be fresher. Straight off the dock. Cooked to order by pleasant Staff. Clean and welcoming with views over the harbour. Best in the town.

Proper little workmans caff except it's lovely and clean. Excellent value for money. The lady couldn't have been more accommodating, I asked if she used oil for her omelette and stated I didn't want certain foods, dissing I was on a diet she said "tell me what you'd like, I've got lots of different things I could put in. Do you like peppers?" I had a delicious bacon, mushroom and tomato omelette with a side order of beans. Piping hot and so tasty. My other half had the poached eggs cooked to perfection. Will certainly make this a regular stop when we come, and for lunch too!! 5⭐

After celebrating England’s World Cup Quarter Final win, a hangover cure was required in the form of a breakfast fry up and this cafe certainly delivered one. Excellent food, friendly staff and amazing views.

I had seen this cafe on Tripadvisor before we went and heeded the advice not to take notice of this cafe from the outside. I was still dubious, but so glad we went in. Lovely staff. Freshly cooked chips which were just like the ones my Mum used to make in a fryer. We had chip butties (more chips spilling out the butty) and they were fantastic, filled us up for the rest of the day. Great views too.

There are not many places these days where you can actually say the owner and staff care. This is one of them though. The food is first class, as is the selection of hot and cold drinks. This place looks over the sea, beautiful views if you sit outside.

As my wench and I started to walk into the café which was half full of Robert Shaw types drinking AND eating, we were approached by the young seadog behind the counter (at 20 knots) and told that they were not serving any food and drinks as the chef was ill, and proceeded to shut the door even before my wife could wedge her wooden leg in it. I had forgotten my Sou'wester and best wool pants which could have gotten us a fish finger sandwich and a tale of how someone lost their virginity to a bit of frozen haddock. Royston Vasey is alive and well in Scarborough seafront. We settled for cod canapés and potato fingers in another establishment.

We visited Scarborough for a few days and stayed in room only hotel. One day we decided to eat out for breakfast to set us up for the day. Checked trip advisor and took the chance with the Harbour View Cafe as the reviews were all excellent, first of all we have no regrets we walked in and were met by the very friendly staff who took our order, I had a standard my wife had a small breakfast and 2 mugs of Yorkshire tea, great value. We sat down and admired the view over the working harbour and beyond. The food was brought to us and I have to say we both thoroughly loved it and would go as far to say one of if not the nicest breakfasts we have ever had.

I took my Mum. We both had small haddock chips mushy peas and tea.

Average breakfast little on the warm side rather than hot produce cheap n cheerful and website needs updating to show actual prices .Felt like id paid too much .And parking in local carpark will cost you extra couple quid

Normally we’d go to the Golden Grid just 50M away but to be honest the last 2 meals we’ve had were disappointing so after a quick chat with a local we came here. Interior wise it’s not as good, being more like a transport cafe with a sea view, but the staff are really friendly and the fish and chips were absolutely first rate. Looks like they’ve got new customers!

Visited 28th April and both my parner and myself had the standard breakfast and both kids had a small breakfast. Lovely view from the cafe whether inside or out on the balcony. Big thanks to all staff. See you again!

After reading the reviews we thought we would try this but sadly, didn’t think the food and service were worthy of anything above a 2. The waitress with the glasses looked very stressed and not at all friendly. The food was ok, not exceptional like some of the other reviews. Not sure if this is more of a “local” cafe, rather than geared for tourists but we were very underwhelmed.

A true hidden gems great views , fantastic food I had a fish butty , pure white fresh fish in the crispy batter I have ever had , my husband had a full cooked breakfast Totally clean plate says it all , delicious 😋

Very friendly genuine staff, choice of hot smoked salmon salad today as well as the usual fish and chips. They shot a scene of The Syndicate here. Quite a find. Just a bit smoky and hot as today was very warm but it didn't put us off. If you're lucky you can sit outside on the little terrace looking into this view.

We have breakfast here every time we visit Scarborough. We tried other places, but have not found better. The food is spot on, well priced and the staff are always lovely.

Fantastic in every way down to earth cafe but everything served with style and a genuine smile nice touches peas came in a lovely fish shaped dish and two choices of bread plus a proper fish knife batter on he fish was also fantastic for some one who is not keen on batter 10 out of 10 +

Excellent service, great views and really friendly staff. The food was extremely well priced and the portions were very good especially the “belly buster”. Some super waitress skills remembering 10+ tea /coffees and amount of sugars. Do don’t go to Scarborough without breakfast or fish and chips at Harbour View Cafe.

From the outside, I wouldn't have been tempted to venture in but after reading such good reviews we gave it a try. The fish, chips and peas were amazing. Everything cooked fresh to order. Hand cut chunky chips, sweet peas and light crispy batter on pure white chunky fish. Just heaven. Place was clean. Staff friendly. Needed cash though. No cards accepted. Tea lovely. Bread and butter came with meal. Good portions.

Review title says it all really. The cafe is located towards the end of the wharf, plenty of parking, and the public loos close by (though you have to pay for them). Staff were fantastic, warm and welcoming. Menu has all the usual favourites that you’d expect, and the portions are NOT small, come with an appetite! Service is quick, kitchen is clean, and the views are brilliant! Come early, get a table on the north side and watch the fishing boats come and go.

We came in early morning and were delighted with everything, really friendly ladies, delicious fresh food, best black pudding ever! Thank you, was a lovely end to our holiday and we'll be coming back!

Visiting this Cafe after looking for somewhere to stop off for breakfast during our venture to Scarborough, we were quite impressed with the service that we received. We were sat almost instantly, without any hesitation and with a warm, friendly smile, which is all you want when wanting to feel welcome and comfortable.

Overlooking the outer harbour at Porthleven is a perfect place for lunch. Service efficient , helpful and welcoming. Try the crab sandwich with salad , chips and a glass of wine for £10. Unbelievable value and mouth wateringly delicious!

Popped in for breakfast prior to a walk around Scarborough on the back of reviews from TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. Service was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was nice and friendly also. The views towards the Grand Hotel were great and the harbour in the other direction could not be beaten. When the breakfast arrived it was hot, plentiful and made with nice tasty ingredients. Add this to a reasonable price and it was a great experience. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area, thank you.

I haven’t had a breakfast that good in a long time those ladies know what they are doing, the view from the cafe is stunning if you haven’t been before just go a real treat for all

Found this on google so after viewing the photos well worth a visit. So went for a nice walk down first impression lovely little very clean and tidy with view of the harbour a simple menu which is good thing so ordered two standard breakfast and small breakfast for our six year old and with drinks came to £19 well when we received our meals I couldn’t believe what good value and all freshly cooked not warmed up brilliant even my daughter of six said the most delicious breakfast ever and emptying her plate. That says everything if you know children.so if visiting Scarborough please GO here you be foolish not to and the lady’s are lovely to talk to and very very helpful. And if your hungry try the belly buster also good value. I’m very fussy when it comes to food and I can’t fault this lovely friendly little place ******************************

We stayed in a local hotel but not wanting to be confined to breakfast times there we decided to eat out. We came across this cafe and we were not disappointed. We both had a standard breakfast which was more than enough! It was absolutely delicious, the sausage was amazing! We returned on the second day rather than trying somewhere else. It certainly set us up for the day. I would strongly recommend for people to try here. The staff were lovely and the food even better, thank you.
