Harbour Lights in South Tyneside

Went there Monday there was 4 of us it is a lovely cosy pub we all had something to eat 2 had mixed grills they were huge I had chicken parmasan which was also huge and the other one had smoked fish which she said was lovely definitely go again

Amazing food, huge portions and all homemade food. Proper pub grub! Staff very friendly and accommodating. Lovely views of the Tyne and when the sun shines the area looks beautiful. Dog friendly too which is a bonus especially for the pub being so close to the beach

We last came here for a Sunday roast, and it was amazing. Things have changed though. Everything we had was overcooked and bland. The potato skin starter is fantastic, and I should have stopped there. The last time I had the belly pork, it was a long strip with probably the best skin I had ever had on pork belly. This time, all of ours were almost inedible. Three people got the chicken and it was very dry. It was like sawdust in the middle. Two people got the beef and it was very difficult to even cut. The veg were very bland and overcooked. There was some carrot mush thing that was not great. I would rather have smaller portions of very good food than a lot of overcooked bland food. I know a lot of people in the UK like their food like this and cook like this, so you might love it if that's your style. The place is also extremely hot, like uncomfortably hot. The service, however is fantastic. All the waitresses worked very hard and provide excellent service.

Got a treat off our daughter and our soon to be son in law for my birthday, had a reserved table, which I thought was very nice, started off with some drinks which was perfect, then we ordered our meal it was delicious I had hunters chicken which was gorgeous, we all had a loved meal finished off with a drink overall I rate this place 10/10 you have to go to visit such a lovely place.

What a fantastic meal Crispy Porkbelly served with sweet chilli sauce, roasted potatoes and caramelised onion. Out of this world absolutely fantastic exactly what it said on the board. I loved it. Just spontaneously popped in for a meal and excellent service and food. My partner had the fish cakes they too were all home made and fishy too. We will be back…..what a pub!

This is a fantastic spot to enjoy a big meal that leaves you with plenty to take home. The portions are generous, making you feel satisfied with your purchase. The staff are lovely and always go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The ambiance is pleasant, with a cosy fire keeping the place warm. I’ve witnessed this place change hands many times, but I believe the current manager will truly make it thrive. However, I was a bit surprised not to be informed that the meat is Halal. I only learned this through a chat with a staff member while I was there. I think it’s important to have clear signage for religious-specific food, so everyone is aware of what they’re eating.

Does better Sunday dinners than most in the area, and cheaper too. Had a big slab of slow cooked beef on it and veg was seasoned well.

I had the flying start breakfast which was £2.95 for 1 sausage 1 bacon 1 egg some beans and toast. I also had a pot of tea which was beautiful. The girls were lovely serving us too. My partner has the traditional breakfast which was 2 of the above plus mushrooms and Tomato's. He said it's the best breakfast he has had in a long time. He also has a pint of cruzecampo and I also had a small coke. The total bill was around £18 amazing for what we got and the quality in the food.

Good honest meal. No frills, however hearty food.

Good home cooked food. With “real” proper chips no frozen stuff. Food was tasty and good size portions. Staff were great and attentive. Nice venue for a Pub meal.

Food and service is always delicious. Doesn't matter what dish you pick, its always cooked to perfection and very cheap and dog friendly

Superb Sunday Lunch. A great selection and choice. Service is excellent and a table reservation is 'a must' of you don't want to be disappointed. You can keep your table for a 90 minute time slot. Highly recommended 👌

Took my mum in for dinner and was frankly blown away by what we got. Excellent well cooked food created by a chef who obviously cared passionately about what they do. Everything was truly home made and lived up to being exactly that. Brilliant friendly staff and excellent value for money. Definitely one to go for a drive and find, especially for the views over the harbour

Best meal my wife daughter and partner has ever had in shields. Home cooked fantastic food .

Very generous portions. We got chicken Kiev and Cajun chicken burger, both had very large butterfly chicken breasts. Most dishes come with salad and chips. Chips were quite plain (no salt or flavour). Overall decent pub grub, staff are helpful and quick with table service provided. This pub is dog friendly.

WOW!!! I can only suggest that you don't eat on the day you go to the HARBOUR LIGHTS. The portions are huge & well cooked. I had the Mixed Grill & my wife had the Rump Steak. Both meals were well prepared & Claire who took the order was 1st class. Michael brought the food to the table & said enjoy WE DID ENJOY. If you have not been to The Harbour Lights Inn for a meal I suggest you try them as soon as possible. 1st class service from excellent staff & the food is tremendous. Philip & Marion Dudgeon.

First time visit since Michael Ward took over & to be honest the food was excellent. I don't think that Portion Control is part of the vocabulary as the mixed grill was MASSIVE & cooked perfectly. Great service from Claire. Highly recommended & my honest opinion is first class & you will struggle to clear your plate.

Canny little pub, food is good for the price, good range of drinks and friendly staff. Dog friendly too.

After numerous recommendations from good friends we made the effort to book for a mid week lunch. Truly wonderful and as expected ; but not always obtained ; tasty meals. Position is exceptional and views over the estuary brilliant. arranging a further visit as we speak.

Unfortunately my sister booked a table for seven under her first name Ann, so when a party of seven with an Ann in their number they thought that was us. Consequently, our party had lost our reservation. However after only a couple of minutes they provided us with a substitute table. The food was fantastic very tasty and vast portions. Be wary of the mixed grill absolutely delicious but so much food I couldn't finish. Would have no hesitation in recommending this pub to anyone and everyone.

Dog friendly, even friendlier staff. Great breakfast and couldn't believe the prices. We will definitely be visiting again with a walk along the beach afterwards.

We went for a family meal on Monday evening 18 of us We had a mixture of food My roast dinner was lovely my family said the fish, Hunters chicken, and a selection of other dishes were lovely Michael Jan and Nicole couldn't have been more welcoming thank you we will definitely be back

3 of is went there while visiting south shields on the basis of good reviews. Having been there in the past and remembering it being a bit grubby, what a transformation. Its bright and tastefully furnished. The food was fantastic value, the fish and chips was huge, well cooked and the fish fresh. The pie of the day ( lamb and mint) was packed with chunks of lamb and pastry a cross between suet and short. Desserts were a blast from the past, a clever idea! My own criticism would be lack of any draft beer, but the food more than made up for it.

Our meal was different and very appetizing. Would return without doubt. Brilliant waiting staff too.

We visited here with the family and was pleasantly surprised, it isn’t really somewhere I’d normally go, but the food here was actually unreal! I had the steak with home cooked chips, the steak was cooked to absolute perfection, the homemade chips were exactly that - homemade - and were also unreal! Highly recommended!

Lovely venue ,long time since my last visit and first one under new management spent lovely afternoon. Pleasant surroundings, polite attentive staff and good food at excellent prices good menu .Won't be long before we are back .

The fact there were no vegetables was outweighed by the brown slime in the gravy. At first I thought that they had put brown sauce all over my mince!

Great atmosphere. Staff and food amazing can’t fault it at all.

Food is cheap but great quality food, staff are so lovely and warm welcoming. The bar/ restaurant has a lovely old Vibe to it and has a lovely garden out the back.

Fantastic food, service, and value for money. Also there is a fabulous view over the North Sea from 2 enormous windows. Highly recommended.

It's a nice pub with a good atmosphere and really friendly staff but, unfortunately, the reason we visited was for food (Sunday lunch, in our case) and it was a letdown. Who serves mushy peas with a roast dinner?! The chicken was super dry, so dry it was inedible, and the beef was disappointing too. The sticky toffee pudding was warm on one side and still cool on the other.

Mince and dumplings was awful. Would have killed someone if I had thrown the dumpling at them. Mash potatoes was nice though.

You had to know this place was there because it's fairly well hidden. Went there early eve around 5pm midweek for a dinner, service was very good, they carry a cider I like so it was looking good. I had the burger, my partner had the roast pork. Mine was OK, very filling, even left some chips, my partners pork meal was also good but she would of liked some more veg and possibly apple sauce? A nice clean well presented gastro pub well worth the climb up the steps.

1st time trying, both meals the chicken was dry, the coleslaw was a 50p a tub one absolutely rank, chips were reheated or summit coz they were poor. Definitely wont be back

First visit since new ownership. Busy but given a table. Food freshly cooked, which you have a 20 minute wait, which was worth waiting for. Will be back sooner than later.

Headed to Harbour Lights for a breakfast, we were given a table at the large windows overlooking the Tyne and North Sea. We ordered two full English breakfasts with tea and orange juice. It didn’t take very long to arrive and it was everything we needed. Great service with no fuss. Got to say this is total value for money and we will definitely be back for more. I might attempt the Belly Buster next time

Managed to book a table for lunch after hearing good reports from friends. We were not disappointed, the food being served looked stunning so we went for the fish and chips, I say fish it was more like a whale, it was huge, proper chips and mushy peas, it was delicious and the portions were huge. We will definitely return.

Visited for a family Sunday lunch. The food is plentiful and the meat is all lovely. Fetherblade beef and pork belly both highly recommended. Some lovely classic desserts too - crumble and sticky toffee pudding for us 😋

Sunday Dinner feather blade beef is to die for… The beef melts in your mouth!! Portions are massive. Cruzcampo lager was lovely. Service was great and the atmosphere was so nice.

Reserved a table for 3 people and 2 dogs ordered 2 starters and 3mains all the food was freshly cooked and delicious the cheese burger was delicious according to my daughter and the sea bass was delicious I had the fish and chips and peas I didn't realise they did a small fish until they brought out a (small) portion on the next table (it definitely wasn't small) when mine came I knew it was going to be a struggle even though it was delicious. We had to ask for half to be wrapped up to later be eaten by 2 very eager spaniels. I will definitely be going back in the very near future the whole experience /food /service /price was fantastic thank you Sam and Andy

Came here for lunch with friends. Food was amazing, we all enjoyed it. All the staff were amazing and super friendly. Service was quick even though it was Easter Monday and the place was full.
