We stayed with the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel for the week of our wedding July 24 and could not recommend the team or the hotel more if you are planning and event or a weekend get away! Working with the Harbour Hotel team was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Charlotte the events coordinator was incredibly organised and kept us on track throughout the planning process. On the day of the wedding, everything went flawlessly thanks to Charlotte and her team. They managed all the details, allowing us to relax and enjoy our day. The view from the lawn was spectacular and exactly what we was looking for when choosing a venue, plus with access to the spa and top deck restaurant we knew we would be in for a treat for the week that we stayed with them. Sidmouth is a gorgeous and we can't wait to return! Overall, the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel provided a magical setting for our wedding. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful place to celebrate their special day. Thank you again to the team!

Our booking, made and fully paid for 4 months prior to our stay, was cancelled by the hotel 3 weeks before our visit. Their reason being the hotel was booked for film crew and they were very sorry etc etc! They did offer another date or another hotel in the group instead in a completely different area. No good to us! On top of this refund will be issued in 7-12 days. Not happy, as had to be the dates and area we had booked so had to find alternative hotel at very short notice, (which cost us more). Miserable customer treatment.

We had such a lovely weekend away as a pre-wedding break. The hotel is gorgeous and the views are amazing! The hotel is decorated beautifully and the rooms are so stylish. When we arrived we found out that we had been upgraded to a seaview suite and they had left a beautiful chocolate decoration to wish us well for our wedding. They really did go above and beyond! The breakfast is great and the cooked breakfast is very good value and delicious! All the restaurant staff are so friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend more and we can't wait to come back - thank you!

Just had the most fabulous stay, we enjoyed it so much we booked to stay longer! All the staff were so lovely and helpful- the bar staff were superb (shoutout to Portia and her fabulous cocktail skills) every meal was delicious. And no issue was too large for the reception team. Accessibility wasn’t the best as it wasn’t easy to get into the accessible room due to the slight step in the doorway, the lack of parking also posed some problems as we were often unable to park due to all spaces in use. The only way to get to the outdoor pool is using steps and I do wish there was a ramp somewhere. The positives of this trip outweighed any negatives as we did truly feel at home staying at the harbour in sidmouth. Thankyou so so much for having us, we loved your fantastic crew!

Stayed 9th till 12th August wedding on 10th Tania and Jules. Well what can I say about the harbour hotel, it's like a lot of places seen some traffic on it's time some knocks and bumps etc. But nothing that detracts from the cool elegance it has like a new England Hamptons resort. The seaside details are beautiful. Room service is lacking toast was soggy and soft boiled eggs were hard, the drinks are define and main meals lush, our wedding breakfast was exquisite all the guests raved about it. But for us what makes the harbour so wonderful is the staff, every single one from cleaning to management is amazing, they go above and beyond for you so you truly do feel like you are important and valued. It becomes a home away from sad and I find myself sad to leave, will definitely stay again and visit for drinks and the spa. Thank you everyone. Visited again today ( 18.07.24) with the girls for lunch and catch up. Happy for us to sit outside, lovely to have table service and such polite waiting staff. Lunch was yummy and pimms define. Love coming here, thank you again

Took a friend for lunch at the hotel yesterday. The view of the coastline is unbeatable. Sadly, the details of this hotel let it down; it is firmly in the category of “faded glory”. The chairs in the dining area are dirty along the tops. Virtually all of them look grubby. The pool is covered with plastic, ruining the photos and general ambiance of the outdoor space. The three large photos adjacent to the dining room were in disrepair, one being quite skewed with its edges torn and crushed. The baseboards look like they haven’t been cleaned in ages, especially in the corners. It’s as if they think people won’t notice, so they haven’t bothered. The waitstaff, although extremely friendly, are poorly trained. No one asked if we took sugar with our coffee, and I had to hunt down someone to bring us ketchup when lunch arrived. The waiter had no idea what was on their club sandwich (the only sandwich available for lunch!), so I can’t imagine he would know anything about allergens either. My friend didn’t fancy tea with her cream tea and asked for a cappuccino instead. “Oh no, that’s not possible. Sorry, you must order it separately.” We did order two cream teas for after lunch. They were brought on a single plate with shared jam and cream and no side plates. It was cold by the time we got to it. None of the lunch dishes were cleared away, so we had it at a cluttered table. Lastly, and most idiotic, they have listed afternoon tea on the menu. We tried to order two. Again, “Sorry, no, you must book an afternoon tea 24 hours in advance.” As someone who was a catering manager for a major organization with responsibility for six restaurants, including two fine dining locations, I can confirm this is ridiculous. The hotel lost money that day due to ill-preparedness. If you can’t serve something immediately, especially something as simple as afternoon tea, get it off the menu. It’s not like the ingredients need to be flown in. There are many ways to make an amazing afternoon tea; I suggest the management pick one that customers can actually access. On a positive note, again, the staff were very friendly. The chips were well done as requested, the toiletries in the bathrooms smell lovely, and the coffee from the cafetière was good. In conclusion, the restaurant could be much busier, but the details are letting them down. A thorough clean, proper retraining of the staff, and a laser focus on customer delight is all it would take.

Lunch specials offer 12-3pm 2 courses for £16.95, only on until 28/6/24.The hotel terrace is dog friendly, the restaurants are not, but the staff are very helpful in taking up to the terrace .They were short of staff and meant we had to go inside to the bar and order food and drinks, don't take cash unless you don't want any change so card only, also put service charge on the bill but you can challenge this and take it off the bill . I had flat iron steak, skin on fries, with a delicious peppercorn sauce , my wife had the Smoked tomato, spinach and broad bean gnocchi in a creamy sauce, excellent very tasty. For dessert, Creme Brulee and Bakewell tart blondie with ice cream yummy, drinks Peroni and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. To cope with the demand Harbour Hotel I suggest you review your training methods for your existing staff and get some new staff, but very enjoyable and something different for the Tourist.

It's a well located hotel, very close to the promenade. We thoroughly enjoyed the spa, and indoor and outdoor pools. The food was excellent, but the service was slow due to the lack of waiting staff. We had our wedding here in April 2024. Leonie the wedding event manager was excellent, dedicated, listened and gave suggestions; cannot fault her. We have been to the hotel so many times over the last year and all the reception and waiting/bar staff are always exceptionally professional, helpful and friendly. Our wedding was so well done, all the family could stay at the hotel and it was all in the hotel but with only a very short walk across the road to the Connaught Gardens and Coast for photos. All our guests thought it was amazingly well organised and perfect venue. The food was A** We are so impressed that we are planning to visit all the Harbour Hotels over the next few years. We stayed at Salcombe Harbour Hotel in January for which was also fab. Highly recommend as a wedding venue, as much less stressful and costs are known in advance per guest. Great place to stay too whatever the occasion.

I would give it a 3.5 if I could. Overall, we did have a nice stay. Firstly, the good things. The location is fantastic, overlooking a beautiful beach. The dining/bar area is lovely with gorgeous views. The breakfast was fantastic - you could order a hot dish then have whatever you fancied from the continental buffet. We booked a sea view room which looked pretty good and had a nice big bed. We had a little shared balcony at the side of the hotel so sea view was a bit limited but not really an issue. But the rooms are just a bit naff - the walls are paper thin (we could hear our neighbours chatting and bashing around) and there is no air conditioning. We were hot in the night in March, god knows what the rooms must be like in the summer! We ate in the restaurant one night and I had a very sad, dry little shepherd’s pie that was mega expensive for what it was. It’s not a bad hotel but they position themselves as luxury which I just don’t think it lives up to. We took advantage of the 3 nights for the price of 2 offer which was still over £500 - I would have been really disgruntled if I had paid full price.

All of our guests loved it, we loved it, the rooms were super clean and tidy and the spa was absolutely beautiful, all the food we ate breakfast/dinners was amazing and you can tell so much effort went into it all, the staff honestly couldn’t do enough for us they were amazing! I also want to say a huge thank you to Leonie for helping plan the wedding and for all the support when we needed her she was fantastic! And also a huge thank you to everyone who worked on our wedding day it was the best day of our lives even our guests have said it is one of the best weddings that they have been to. Everything went smoothly and to plan the food was outstanding from canapés to wedding breakfast and of course the evening buffet and thank you so much for catering for one of ours guests who is gluten intolerant you really did go above and beyond for them. Just overall everything was perfect, thank you honestly to everyone in the hotel to making it the most amazing memorable time and a huge thank you to the amazing chefs we will definitely be returning for a nice spa weekend sometime soon.

What a truly lovely hotel, with staff that really take the experience to another level. We have just spent a lovely few days here, and the hotel is amazing. Right from the moment you arrive the reception and all public areas are so clean and airy. The room we had in the Courtyard was huge and again so clean and had everything you could possibly want and need. The spa area is amazing and treatments are reasonably priced with really helpful and knowledgeable staff. The food in the restaurant was amazing, with a great atmosphere and sea views whilst you eat and drink. However the big difference for us was that the staff take the experience to another level. I have never been anywhere where the staff (and I mean all of them) are just so welcoming, always say hello and if you need anything they will always do their very best to help, and I don't think you can ask for more than that. We left feeling so relaxed after our short break and will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

We stayed for one night here and really enjoyed our stay. The view from our Seaview room was absolutely fantastic and the amenities in the room were good. The bed was really comfortable providing a brilliant nights sleep. I think perhaps more information could be provided at check in about the spa, dinner, breakfast etc and service overall could be better in all areas. Spa area was nice but quite small and if busy you will struggle to find somewhere to put your robes/towels etc, i did later see it on the website but note that children are allowed in the spa at certain times so you might want to consider this if wanting a peaceful swim. Breakfast was tasty, small continental buffet and you can order a dish from the hot selection at your table. Views are incredible even in winter. We would stay again if in the area.

Dreadful experience on a spa day. Supposed to be a nice relaxing treat, but masseuse failed to turn up and after 45 minutes a manager finally arrived to explain that the person was on a training course and wouldn’t be in all day. They managed to find an alternative for one rushed and pretty unpleasant 22-minute massage, but cancelled the second one for later in the day. They eventually and reluctantly agreed not to charge for the full spa day (we didn’t even use the spa, there was no time left after waiting so long), but insisted on charging full price for the massage even though it was rushed, unpleasant and the lady was grumpy about having to do it at all. The whole visit was a really unpleasant experience and to be charged anything at all was an outrage. Manager refused to come out and discuss it, leaving a hopeless receptionist to insist there was nothing she could do. Avoid this unprofessional place like the plague! Edit: The therapists absence was not unexpected as you claim in your response, she was booked by her manager on a training day. We were not offered a refund except for the spa day component which we were unable to use because of the delays. The manager did come and speak to us around 45 minutes after the first session was due to start, but when we queried at the end why we were still being charged full price for a stressful and sub-standard massage, she refused to come back out and the receptionist just kept saying there was nothing she could do. I’m very disappointed with the less than accurate response, but not surprised given our experience on the day.

Spa area congested and totally unrelaxing with no staff paying attention to servicing the facilities. Just one lady at the reception desk, meanwhile dirty towels everywhere, empty water dispenser, nowhere to sit, and a fully grown man in a nappy allowed in the hot tub. Yes you read that correctly!!! Gave up on indoor spa, headed outdoor to the pool only to be surrounded by men with roaring whipper snippers - lucky for them they had ear protection, no such luck for paying guests on a “relaxing” holiday. Rooms adequate enough but management stores the recycling bin and laundry bins in the carpark directly by the rooms, so no sleeping allowed as 6am every Monday morning you will be awoken with the furious sound of tonnes of glass being emptied into a truck. Who is managing this place?? Total waste of money. Shame as the Sidmouth location is gorgeous. Enough to put me off Harbour Hotels for life.

We have had mid morning coffee in the two large adjacent hotels so sadly we have to compare the Harbour hotel with them. We ordered a cafetiere for 2. When it came the filter plunger was already depressed so no time to infuse. Only cold milk was supplied and there were no biscuits. We returned for a light lunch of crab sandwich and fries. The sandwich itself was very poor. The crab it contained was just brown meat more like old fashioned crab paste with a bit of lettuce stuck in it to fill it out. The fries were ok. At £16 for the sandwich and £5 for the fries I would have expected a far higher standard. Finally with only one girl behind the bar, trying to make drinks orders for the waiters, serve drinks to waiting customers and deal with us paying our bill I felt we had to wait far too long. On the whole not a memorable visit.

Returned here for a few days' break, after many years and a change of ownership. The hotel remains located in a super elevated position, with sea views including views over the town/main esplanade. Limited/tight parking availability caused us a bit of kerfuffle on arrival but, fortunately, after unloading and initial parking over the road on the municipal car park, we spotted a space in the hotel car park later in the afternoon, and we managed to keep it and/or find another for the remainder of our stay. Service and food were generally good, with only a few small niggles, and the place retains the pleasant atmosphere we remember from years gone by. The standard sea-view room was pleasant enough and while we didn't have a private balcony we did unexpectedly have access to a good/useful communal terrace which in practice gave us a very pleasant, relatively private, area to sit out etc. The unusually glorious weather of course added greatly to a happy stay, and enjoyment of Sidmouth's great promenade/s and walkways, town shops and cafes, and the lovely gardens just over the road by the Jacob's Ladder steps. Clientele were mainly getting on in years (like us!), with a sprinkling of younger folk. That doesn't seem to have changed much.

A rabbit warren inside! Not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. We're unused to just a double bed, not conducive to comfort! and outside room 21 is an extractor chimney very "intrusive" noise!!. 21 is also very stuffy. Bathroom leaves a lot to be desired: Staffing? Very slow service, food great.

SHH! SHH! On entering the room, drunken and stumbling, and find my bed telling me to be quiet! The impudence! But I found the humour in it, and we had a good laugh, and so all was well. The breakfast was good, the Eggs Florentin I recommend, enough to make the whole rest of the table spinach green with envy. And our guy Nico, the most helpful man I ever did have the pleasure of being served by.

Visited over the weekend with my husband as a special treat for ourselves, first night away from our two young children in a very long time. The room was perfect with amazing views and a balcony overlooking Sidmouth. The staff were all super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner and cocktails in the bar/restaurant and couldn’t fault it, food was delicious as were the passion fruit martinis! The spa is lovely, and so nice to be able to use the outdoor pool even though the weather wasn’t overly warm. We would definitely visit again, the perfect little relaxing getaway.

16 March 23 - Our second stay and here for one more night in room 11. Staff are all amazing. So polite, considerate, kind and always happy to help. Lovely spa, which whilst not the biggest, it's a great retreat on cold days and in the summer, has an outdoor pool. Beautiful views out to sea and the coast. Will return for a third trip! 1st trip. Location superb. Staff just lovely. Good food and drink in stunning bar and restaurant. We arrived today and two more days to further enjoy. Mr B.

AVOID!!! I booked a three night stay for New Years, 30th December until 2nd January. Upon arrival I was told I was unable to access my room at 3pm as it hadn't been cleaned yet and had to wait in reception with my luggage for 45 minutes. Once in the room I was shocked to see how shabby the room was, every wall marked, scuffed, everything thick with dust, curtains stained, filthy windows, marks on carpet... the list goes on. My room (on one side) over looked the bin store and the kitchen fans. I asked reception if there was any way I could be moved to an alternative room, however, understandly due to the time of year the hotel was fully booked and another room was not available. I decided to let this go and try my best to enjoy my stay. The ladies on reception are a credit to the hotel and we're so helpful and polite. The service in the restaurant was abysmal. I asked for a Latte coffee at breakfast and I was very rudely told I wouldn't be able to have a Latte due to the fact there was not enough staff available to make me one. I waited 40 minutes for my breakfast to arrive and had eaten my entire breakfast before my filter coffee was brought over. Every table in the restaurant was complaining. Staff were rude and the food was poor. I then returned to my room to find housekeeping had "cleaned" my room. They had literally threw my bedding back on the bed and walked out. They left dirty mugs, glasses, bin unemptied, towels on the floor in the bathroom. I made a complaint with the general manager, Jason. He wrote everything down in detail and said he would make investigations and get back to me with a resolution. This did not happen. Later that day, my partner overheard a conversation a manager was having with another manager in the hallway. The conversation was about us and the complaint I had made earlier that day. Nothing had been actioned throughout the day and they having a conversation about my complaint in an open hallway which is completely unprofessional and shows nothing was going to be done about my complaint. My partner made the manger aware that we were able to hear the conversation her and the other manager were having about us and she became very defensive. We were made to feel as though everyone was talking about us and actually felt intimidated in the bar/lounge area. I booked this hotel with the view of attending the NYE gala, which unfortunately we did not attend due to the amount of upset and horrendous service we had received. After this stay we will never return to the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel and feel very upset about the whole experience, completely ruining our New Years Eve. I had conversations with other guests staying at the hotel who was also appaled at the quality of service and how shabby the rooms were. It's not the 4 star service and rooms advertised. Made a complaint to Harbour Hotels Head Office, zero response. Absolute joke!!

We had room 5 with beautiful views of the ocean, the room was very clean with all that we needed, although it was smaller than anticipated. I dropped one star because although it had very nice shutters they do not black out the room, so if you need a dark room to sleep it would have been nice to have the option of a curtain to pull across. We really could not fault the staff, everyone from reception, restaurant servers, and especially the bar staff were friendly and helpful. Our first time in Sidmouth and it's a good base for exploring. Overall a great place to stay.

Great location. Stayed over Christmas. Good location. Really good ambience in the restaurant and bar area. Room was good quality and well laid out. Food was mostly excellent. However...... Due to staff shortages, the service in the restaurant was a bit patchy with boxing day breakfast being particularly chaotic. The staff (2 young ladies) were absolutely excellent, trying their best to serve a large number of people coming to breakfast later. I stress, this is a staff shortage / management issue. I went to reception and said your staff are drowning out there, help them. I was assured "a call has gone out", nobody else turned up to help them. It didn't help that guests with zero empathy were getting quite aggressive with them. Be kind !! Overall had a great time, but it needs better management in some areas. Shout out to a young lady called Roxana in the dining area. Works so hard, kind and polite even when she was drowning in guests making demands on her, often quite rudely. Well done Roxana.

We were staying in the area and after asking a taxi driver which was the best place for fish & chips, we were told here. On arrival (we drove there) the shop looks very modern, clean and like the pictures. There were a few people already waiting but we were quickly served, everyone seemed friendly and they appeared to have a good system in place! Considering the people before us and the selection we ordered, the wait wasn't too long. There were more people coming in and looked like collecting orders. The menu has a good variety & we went for a selection of bits to make up a meal. To feed a group of 3 with (I think!) 8 different options is was around £26 which isn't bad at all- they had a F&C meal offer which I think was about £10 also. The homemade onion rings were SO good! I'm guessing it would be a 5+ min drive to the beach from here, not sure walking distances as we were only in the area for a few days. We were happy and would go again if visiting again! Thank You :)

The best beer in Exmouth.Great service.Only downside was the loud foul mouthed bald headed guy that used the F word in every sentence which my Mrs didn't want to hear constantly. We've ran several pubs before and appreciate it is difficult to tackle. It didn't get any better when children sat with him. Will definitely be back though if not with the wife.Loved the Verdant beers.
