Harbour Fish & Chips in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Pretty poor to be frank, some of the chips were half raw and the fillet of mackerel had no sign of freshness about it. Quite gray looking. Most went in the bin.

Top notch fish and chips! I had cod and chips, and it was just what I needed after exploring St Ives. The sweet potato crisps that come with the fish were so moorish too.

Food was amazing, portion size was a good size, the sweet potato shavings were even better. Atmosphere was quiet very chilled.

2 fish and chips, peas, tartar sauce, coke, and a beer £51.90!!! The fish was refried and chips is frozen chips!! Too expensive for what it is!!

The food was ok. I have a food intolerance, so I was given an allergens sheet to know what I could pick from the menu, which was very helpful. But the restaurant had no vegan alternatives for coffee, so had a small very bitter cup of coffee, where I was hoping to get something big, sweet and warming after 7 hours out in a cold but sunny St Ives. I think I got the end of a batch of chips as mine were a bit soggy and many were small and hard, so I left half of them. Where I saw some come out after mine that looked much nicer. The squid was lovely, but it felt like the batter needed to be a bit crisper. I'm not sure what the orange crispy shavings were on my meal, though. They tasted a bit like sweet potato skins, maybe? But I didn't order them and didn't notice them as a free side on the menu. Overall a bit disappointed.

Finally an authentic Fish & Chips! Don't miss the grilled mackerel too! Even though it was full when we were there, the staff were all smiles and obliging. The only thing is there is only ONE toilet. With so many customers, oh brother. Otherwise I highly recommend the you don't leave St Ives before you eat in this restaurant!!

Today 27/2/25 at 12/55 pm We were looking forward to having fish& chips as we had not eaten we ordered two fish & chips to take away. We have had them here before and were very good . So much so we recommend it to friends. Today sadly that was not the case The fish was under cooked and dripping in grease and chips weren’t any better and sadly it’s not a cheap meal anymore. So very disappointed costumer . Today that was a waste of money for us.

Didn't even get to sit down before being told I wasn't allowed INTO the restaurant. Due to an allergy I have, which yes isn't the best one to have somewhere that serves fish, I was refused to even enter the premises. All I wanted was some chicken & chips so my husband could have some cod, as of course when by the sea why wouldn't you. The lady that was on the door told me I wasn't allowed in, I assured her that the contamination is perfectly fine, I have chicken & chips from chip shops all the time, it's my own risk. I was then told that if something happens to me the chef would lose his chef licence... Chefs don't need a licence, who's she trying to kid? Surely they should ask to sign a waiver then surely the responsibility is on me. This kind of service makes people not wish to be honest about their allergies so that they can enjoy a nice meal.

Had a family harbour lunch here and was amazed by the portion and the taste of the seafood! highly recommended the seafood for the sharing plate and the steam mussels , the service is very friendly and no pre-booking required

Grabbed last min grilled Hake and chips with their homemade mushy peas…wife had grilled Bass….wow! Probably the best F&C we’ve had for a long time! Great service, the chap was super friendly despite being end of shift. Everything is recyclable…we will be back! Well done everyone involved!

Haddock and Chips from the takeaway. Freshly cooked, good quality and portion size (they also have excellent local IPA). Sat on the wharf front, excellent apart from predatory seagulls (beware!).

Lovely chippy nice staff incredible location

Perfect scampi and chips, perfect chicken bits and chips. We went in a quiet lunch time in January, and were soo pleased we did. Service was very good, music was very good and the food was so spot on. Generous size, chips were so so good, ‘proper’ but not greasy at all. Ok a small Coke mite have been around £4, but this is St Ives harbour we are talking about so. Of all the choices in st ives we were so happy we went here!

Spotlessly clean, nice and bright and friendly staff. Lots of grilled fish offerings as well as the traditional battered, what a fab idea, so much lighter, healthier and delicious. Can thoroughly recommend the grilled mackerel and the crushed minted peas

The food was really great, unfortunately the attitude of the guy serving us really let it down. He clearly didn’t want to be there and it felt like we were interfering with his Friday night by ordering. The guy with tattoos was really nice though, I would leave him to run the front of house. Very warm and welcoming. Like my nephew was serving me.

Ate here the first night we arrived in St. Ives. We had the Hake and Chips / haddock and chips with a side order of peas. All was delicious, well cooked and huge portions with fried / dried carrot shavings on top. Would thoroughly recommend!

Such a shame, as up to now this was our ‘treat’ spot. A large takeaway chips is usually plenty but yesterday the portion was so small that we could still see the bottom of the box and the chips were limp and squashed. We were so disappointed, it really felt like a complete rip-off.

Worst chippy I have ever had. Hard chips(undercooked) the worst chips I have ever had!! sausage was £1.75 for a cheap generic SMALL battered sausage!! Stay away! Prices extortionate and quality of food crap!!!

Excellent fresh seafood. Family visit (2 adults, 1 child). Children's menu available with multiple options. Adults shared a generous potion of mussels, perfectly grilled sardines & a fish cake (sides - salad and chips). Great food. Fair prices. Excellent polite and friendly service. Decent wine list and local St Ives beers on tap. Highly recommended. 5 Star visit.

The food was actually really good, but we really disappointed with the lack of catering for Coeliacs with cross contamination on everything apart from a side salad and minted peas.The girl that served us was quite short tempered and it wasn’t even a busy time of day. Such a shame as we used to really like it here

We opted for the takeaway which did not disappoint. Sitting looking over the moonlit harbour on a dark night with hot fish and chips and a steaming cup of tea was magical.

Average fish, chips were soggy get better in Nottingham 100 miles from the coast and it was over priced.

when I lived in St Ives, 3 years ago this was an incredible place to come for food and service. november 2024 - i was excited to go back - despite being quiet, the takeaway staff were unfriendly in a rush failing to communicate. it takes time for the food to be prepared, which I appreciate as I know it's then freshly made the server poured a thick layer of table salt all over the takeout 🧂- please can you allow customers to do this themselves? It left the fish and chips pretty much inedible and i spent ages trying to scrape off all the salt and mop it all off. There was one young girl main restaurant staff who did apologise the rest of the staff couldn't give a toss. I do appreciate staffing is a major problem in cornwall due to not many opportunities and the limited availability of accommodation the quality of the fish is great but inedible absolutely costed in salt

Been twice in the past few weeks and the only thing that let it down was the chips. On both occasions, the cod was superb - fish and batter, and tartare sauce probably the best I’ve had with fish and chips - homemade, plentiful and no extra charge. The first time, the chips tasted like they’d been around for a while and the second time they were only just over the ‘blanched’ stage. Both times out of season and mid afternoon on a Saturday, but a shame that this simple thing let it down. Won’t stop me going back, hope it’s back to par next time.

A few hours after eating at this establishment I had intense food poisoning for 48 hours - I had eaten nothing else that day except for bread and cheese. Contacted the restaurant to ask that they speak with their staff to ensure proper protocol is being followed, but I have just been ignored. I think that speaks for itself in terms of how much they care about their customers' health and well-being.

I had the grilled sea bass with chips, and it was excellent — a good portion of fish with lots of flavour.

We had an excellent meal here ,service was very good and pleasant staff . We had the grilled hake with chips and a side salad and grilled lemon sole with Salad and bread and butter and 2 mugs of tea .It was a huge meal and all of it was absolutely delicious .I would thoroughly recommend this place to eat .

The reviews on ‘high’ prices are bizarre, we found them quite reasonable for a harbour side restaurant with a table view of the bustling harbour of st Ives. Large portions and everything cooked well, not greasy.

Visited here recently, having visited here previously a few years ago, But this time, we were disappointed we had the large sharing platter for two £27 Fish was average batter was not crispy, fish cake was horrible, prawns was nice,crispy squid was horrible,chips were ok, Daughter had fish fingers kid meal & they were horrible, Some of the Waiters are only young & very inexperienced definitely require additional training If I was to eat here again, if I had to, i would definitely only go for fish & chips, not the platter. Looking around whilst eating fish & chips looked ok so probably made the wrong choice this time,

Had lunch here on one of our trips to Cornwall in October. The food was very nicely cooked, the servers were efficient and courteous, but being faced with a bill for just under £50 for two pieces of fish and two portions of chips (including soft drinks) was ridiculous. I can remember treating two members of our family to the same meal a couple of years ago (four of us) for the same price. A price hike of 100% is just not acceptable. Our income hasn’t increased by that much. Is this just another case of fleecing tourists? If so, then it won’t be long before there’ll be no customers to serve.

Ordered a large portion of chips with generous amount of salt & vinegar for takeaway. Portion size was huge for £3.95. Fish did look good which was on display. Will come and dine in the future. Fast service and server was kind & pleasant.

We have eaten here for many years. However this evening’s meal was very disappointing and expensive! We usually have the grilled fish but for some reason the grill was turned off so this option was not available. It was only 7pm and they close at 9pm. Many customers were as disappointed as us and were asking for grilled fish. No complaints about the staff

Had a fish and chip takeaway. Daughter (18) will always have fish and chips when we go out and she said it was THE BEST she's ever tasted. Fish was so tasty. Would 100% recommend.

Lovely fish and chip restaurant on the sea front. Very welcoming attentive staff, great food except for the 'tartare' sauce which is just mayonnaise with a few chopped cornishons added in, the only thing letting the place down! Quite pricey for any sauces (95p - £1.50) other than tomato which is readily available and free.

Food was OK, not outstanding. The fish and squids were a bit tasteless. Chips were a bit soggy.

Walking past looking for somewhere to get a meal and the smell of fish and chips was enough to draw us in and we were not disappointed The cod cooked to perfection light crispy batter no sigh of grease the chips were spot on everything thing about the meal was great and the staff were fantastic. Highly recommend this place

Very busy chip shop couldn't sit inside Huge portions! Not to bad on price ( we are used to London prices ) Chips were perfectly cooked and fish was nice even if I did have to fend off seagulls non stop to enjoy

Definitely not cod or haddock. More like pollock. Sparce piece of fish. Tasteless. Chips bland. Scampi tasteless also. As for being charged for tartare sauce. A joke. Ridiculous prices for such awful food. Will never go back. A warning to everyone else.

This restaurant is very busy in peak times so you will experience good food and friendly service even though it's busy. Fabulous setting on harbour front 👌

Good food and service at a reasonable price

As other reviewers have reported, my wife and I enjoyed a delicious fish meal. The cod and chips were excellent. Batter was crisp and fish flaky. Sole and salad was very tasty. Also enjoyed the draught cider and IPA. Portion sizes were large, service was super, atmosphere nice, great views of harbour, prices reasonable. Highly recommend. Wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Fish and chips is a tricky one to get right as we all have our favourite place. The Harbour nailed it. Location spot on, nice views out. Prices were ok for the tourist trade but then we spotted the sharing platter with cod which seemed great value. It was absolutely amazing. Light batter on the cod, great fish cakes, prawns top with the chilli sauce and nice calamari. Chips perfect, went well with the thick bread we ordered as an extra. We had Pilsners with it and it really was all perfect. Have to say the young guy with a beard who served us made it for us, really friendly and deserves a big pat on the back. Cannot recommend it enough.

Have eaten here in past visits to st. Ives and food was always plentiful and good quality. Our experience last night, early September 2024, was not going to entice us to plan a visit to this restaurant again for the following reasons: Music was way too loud to make eating in both comfortable and enjoyable, my engineering background would say it was way over the acceptable working decibels; Food portion size has shrunk to make the sharing platter only just acceptable versus cost; Prawn skewers consisted of two prawns each of minimal size and way over cooked; Chilli dip was like water consistency and dripped absolutely everywhere rather than stick to food as you expected (pointed this out to server and no interest in comment; Chips cam up Luke warm which after few minutes they turned cold making them not nice to eat. Overall I felt the food quality and quantity was not up to past standards, eating was not enjoyable with the over loud music and watery chilli dip just made an unnecessary mess. On a good point the draft cider served was nice and refreshing.

Ate here on Friday 30th August. We had about a 15 minute wait to be seated. Staff were very busy but all lovely. Order was taken quickly, there was a reasonable wait for food to arrive. When it did it was superb. Would recommend.

The best cod and chips I’ve ever had! We were a party of 6 and had to wait around 20-25 minutes to be seated but oh my goodness it was worth the wait!! The cod batter was super crispy and topped with fresh parsnip crisps…yum! The pea fritters were delicious and huge too! Only thing I would say is just to be careful with the pots the curry sauce etc come in! My son picked it up for his chips and burnt his fingers quite badly! They did bring a pack of ice over to help but yes just be aware :) they’re hot!

Second visit and food was again superb.. delicious mussels and bread, fish and chips, kids had squid and chips with tartare sauce and garlic mayonnaise. Highly recommended :)

The cod was amazing, batter was perfectly crispy and light as well. Not even greasy at all. The chips were perfect and the amount was more than plenty! Service was spot on and the waitress was lovely, believe her name was Evie. Definitely recommend this place if you're ever in St Ives!

Eating in is significantly more expensive than take away and they have the balls to add a 10% service charge too. It can be taken off though. Don't feel bad asking for it to be taken off.

Worst food, absolutely dripping in fat and inedible. There was probably too much going on and so the fish and chips were only kept in the oil for a short time and taken out again far too early. Considering that most of it ended up in the trash can, it was far too expensive. There are a thousand times better fish & chips in England!!!

my group of 7 waited for 15 minutes for a table which we were happy to do so and the front of house person was friendly. When we sat down I informed the young waitress about my children’s allergies. She went to ask her colleague and came back telling me cannot guarantee free from certain allergens which I said was fine. Another member of staff came to our table and told us that the chef wasn’t happy cooking for our group as everything is cooked in the same fryer. I then said as long as they don’t have peanuts or egg I am fine with it however she adamantly told me they felt uncomfortable cooking for our group, I then said to the members of my group without allergies that they can stay and continue without us for the waitress to tell us that they will not serve the WHOLE group. I felt really angry and especially the way the waitress spoke to us made us feel really small. Seems the staff lack manners and kitchen chef should acknowledge people with allergies. We decided to eat elsewhere and they managed to be very inclusive of us. Don’t eat at harbour fish and chips, go further down to a restaurant called the beach, the staff and food were amazing.

This was one of the top recommeded places in the best restaruants on the coast of St Ives and it didn't disappoint. the place is buzzing with crowds on a fine friday evening and we could get a table pretty quickly. We have tried the seafood sharing platter that came with Fish, Squid and Prawns all of them are delicisous.

Very disappointed. The chips were an incredible let down, as even though we came later in the day, they were so soggy that they were clumped together in one piece. They also had absolutely no salt on them but both had some vinegar, despite asking for both with salt and only one with vinegar. The young lady with dyed colourful hair was lovely and seemed to be running around doing everything however, the rest of the young staff were more interested in having conversations. The battered mackerel and the curry sauce were good and edible. Wouldn't recommend and will not be back.

Staff were very rude when I asked whether the sausages had wheat in them and did not let me explain my food allergies. As I’m not a celiac but rather have intolerances I tried to explain this but they were very rude about it and do not offer gluten free options. They just kept on repeating “You cannot eat here there is one fryer we cook all our food in so there will be wheat in it”. Despite my intolerance meaning I can have a little and would be okay. Just very rude. Went down the road and went to a much more polite fish and chips called The Beach and they were very hospitable

Came today, and was initially impressed, however when we got the bill we were shocked, we had 2 kids Cod Bites and Chips, 1 Chips with Curry Sauce & a fish cake + some drinks, this all came to over £40 with a set 10% service charge. NOW we had no service, all they did was bring the food to us, we are not in the USA and staff are paid a fair wage, so why on earth they force you to pay a service charge is beyond me, especially when there WAS NO SERVICE. NO ONE CAME TO CHECK IF THE FOOD WAS OKAY OR TO SEE IF WE WANTED ANYTHING ELSE. Would not recommend this place to anyone - OVER PRICED, SMALL PORTIONS, NO SERVICE & The staff appeared to not want to be there. If you don't want to serve customers don't work in the service industry.

Great food as always, a must visit!

If you have allergies avoid this place. The chef claimed that none of the food was safe for my son who has a mustard allergy, even just chips. I have never had this happen before anywhere. It indicates poor kitchen management and/or the backwards attitude that people with allergies should just have to stay at home and not ever eat out. Either way, it’s not the way things should be nowadays. I’m sure there is a good training course that he could be sent on to learn about how to cater for customers with allergies.

Chips were really nice, gravy and curry sauce were the best in town.

Good food, very busy probably too busy, very noisy, sitting next to the large open window may seem like a good idea but that's where people qué up to wait for tables and they just stare in an watch you eat. One particular server practically through our plates of foods on the table then rushed of to serve someone else. They add a service charge to the bill but we asked them to remove it because of this. Didn't like the mushy peas at all.

Rubbish service, 1st Aug peak season, told at 9.35 pm no more chips available! Supposed to be open unto 10pm - which is early for such a busy seaside town at this time of year! Disappointed is an understatement!

Very busy, very busy, but basically a pleasant atmosphere, also because the service is attentive and friendly. The food was okay. We specifically used three different types of fish to see if we could taste the difference between them, but we couldn't. I can't say whether it was due to the way it was prepared (fried) or the specific way the restaurant prepared it. In any case, neither fries nor fish tasted like much. Probably just not my favorite dish.

On arrival asked immediately by the hostess if anyone in our party had any allergies. Despite explaining that a "may contain" was fine we were refused entry for a dairy and soya intolerance. Unusual policy but disappointed for all of 5 minutes

Decent chips quite expensive but this is St Ives seafront When you go in make sure the queue is for being served as there is a queue waiting for orders already purchased Usually queue on the right for people just come in There is a inside seating area too entrance in the left

The fish was inedible. Barely ate a piece and felt bad the rest of the evening. Would not recommend this place. Cornwell has other amazing fish and chips.

Best seafood in the town. The restaurant was a little bit noisy though.
