Happy Wok in Rutland

Recommended by a friend and couldn’t have been happier with our first order. Food was ready to collect on time (and quickly!), great quality and generous portions. We’ll certainly be back, thank you!

I’m a Singapore Noodles fan and many takeaways fall short of what it should be. Happy Wok is the best I’ve eaten in ages. Also been converted to Salt & Chilli chips! Their Peking Ribs average, some a bit hard/chewy and not enough sauce. Great smiling welcome, very speedy service, highly recommended. Nb they only take cash.

Terrible, food awful, booked in the afternoon and food was an hour behind. Then it was crap when I got it, I'm not going back as it's utter rubbish. And they got it wrong

Ordered and quoted a 90 minute wait, hadn't even started cooking the order over 2 and a half hours later. Had to drive in to collect a refund too as they wouldn't do an online refund.

I just wanted to say that bearing in mind it was incredibly busy last night, with online bookings, walk-ins and phone bookings all battling for a timeslot as to when food would be ready, I truly didn't mind the 35 minute wait, because the food was outstanding. I'm vegan and had the tofu with blackbean sauce, mixed veg with cashews and some spring rolls and it couldn't have been more tasty and well cooked. The 2 ladies on the desk taking food orders were polite and calm and you could hear the kitchen was cooking as quick as they possibly could. the food was okay but i put in the description before ordering to make sure certain things were changed for the order and they ignored them. was very dangerous with allergies as people who had it are allergic to the ingredients we tried to remove but they ignored them and this was all after we waited 2 hours and then when we arrived they told us to wait for an extra hour. we were also missing 2 dishes that we had ordered

The Japanese Beef Udon noodles tasted like noodles with some gravy over them, the dish was good if i asked for a stew with noodles.

Never know what you are going to get...1 week the food is fantastic, and the next very disappointing.

Have picked up takeaway from here multiple times. They don't deliver but you can order in advance online and they are usually very busy, so even if you have specified a time on occasions you may still have to wait but it's worth it. Food is always delicious and tasty and we have never had a bad takeaway or a dish we didn't like from here.

Loved this! Some food a bit hard and crispy but overall we enjoyed it, really good prices!

This was our first time purchasing food. The app was easy to use, I paid by Apple Pay. The food was good quality & hot. We will use again

Absolutely appalling service. I ordered my food via their online website and it stated the collection time would be 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes after ordering and was told by their front of house there would be a further 5 minute delay due to how busy they were. I then proceeded to wait for 30 minutes or so. After finally arriving home with my food, whilst unpacking the contents I suddenly realised I was missing not one, but TWO dishes. I called the restaurant explaining I was missing two dishes and the front of house apologised and said they could have them cooked for me immediately and that she would speak to her manager to get it sorted. A few seconds later passed when they returned to the phone and told me that they could no longer cook the two missing dishes and accused me of lying and having the dishes. I was astounded that they could take my money and not provide the service and then outright refuse to do anything about it and also accuse me of being dishonest. I then drove down to the restaurant and spoke to the manager in person and I expressed how upset with the overall service and she continued to say I had the dishes and that I knew I did. I showed her photos of the contents so she could see the missing dishes. I continued to argue that they were in the wrong and in fact were practically stealing from me in this instance and not the other way around!! After going back and forth they finally agreed to cook the food and that it would be ready in 5 minutes. No apology for my time wasted, my inconvenience or for their false accusations. The only person who apologised was the lady on the front of house. I do NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone after the experience and disappointment I was victim to.

Just had a very nice meal from happy wok ordered at 4.45 picked up at 5.15 nice polite staff and ready on time delicious thanks

Ordered prawn fried rice and salts & pepper squid. Both are very good and with very generous portions at a very reasonable price. I think there must be close to ten prawns (prawns not shrimps) in my fried rice. There was a short queue when we arrived but orders were taken quickly and food came out fast. People also keep coming in when we wait for our food order. I am glad I gave this a try.

I have been using Happy Wok for the last 10 yrs and have never had a bad meal. X

Food is okay, but wasted over half an hour on a Saturday night waiting for my order. I arrived on time but was told it would be an extra 10 mins, to then take over 30mins... If its going to take longer, tell us on the phone instead of wasting time.

Best Chinese I’ve had in a while coming down from up north nothing like it from a Chinese take away. I walked in I just knew it would be lovely from the attitude from the workers 10/10. Forget the other chinese takeaway in Oakham.

8:40pm order Absolutely disgusting, crispy duck: smelt/tasted off,had hardly any meat and to hard to chew. When i rang to complain the lady said maybe they over cooked this morning!! Rice was over cooked and stodgy, chips were cold and over cooked and greasy. Don't recommend.

Food is always good but even when pre ordering and being given a time to pick up I'm always having to wait at least 10 minutes longer, perhaps they ought to be a bit more specific when giving a time! And what's with the plastic screens over the counter and the silly little slot to pay through!?

Ordered on line to pick up when staying in the area. The website wasn't easy to work with but got there eventually. On collection the premises has the ambiance of a bus stop, but the food was correct, hot and tasty. The set meal for 4 was generous and could feed 5/6 people. They even included a free extra dish due to a slight delay in having it ready. The food was excellent.

My Chinese of choice in Oakham - cash only though. The salt and chilli chips deserve special mention, but the Singapore chow mein is great too, if you like it on the spicier side. Service is usually quite quick, but the two young girls at the reception weren't the last word in customer service, when I had items missing from an order. They do often chuck in freebies tho.

We was just passing through and stopped off here food was delicious 😋 and hot and the lady who took my order was lovely definitely recommend this place

Most of the starters were lovely, however the hot and sour soup tasted very unpleasant so we did not eat it. We also realised we were missing a couple of portions of rice. I did phone, but not much response.

Of the 3 Chinese restaurants we have tried in Oakham the sweet and sour sauce here was best but the chicken chow main was a bit spicy

Horrible take away !!!! Worst Chinese ever had 🤮 chips ware so soggy couldn’t eat went to the bin… Thai green chicken curry was awful looked like it’s split and chicken soo dry… all good looked like it was in the boxes for a while and reheated… first and the last time ordered from happy wok 🤦‍♂️ Big mistake

Everytime we visit Oakham we get a Chinese. Happy Wok is always spot on! Friendly staff, good food and last visit we got free doing roles and prawn crackers. Great service.

Really delicious food. Frosty reception, over the phone when I placed my order and when I came to collect. No smile, no welcome, nothing endearing about the 2 girls at all. A real shame to the overall experience as I found the food top notch!

Strange little set up. Food is fantastic where as the staff come across quite paculier. Would recommend to any oriental food lover 👌

The only positive is that its open on Mondays when the other Chinese restaurants in Oakham aren't. Price is OK but quality is very poor. I won't be going back.

Started going here since lockdown as our regular Chinese was closed. Very good: addicted to the salt and chilli chips!

The woman behind the counter had foul smelling breath, because she kept on breathing out her mouth, it put me off my chow mein,

Our regular Chinese on Mill Street was closed so we thought we'd give this one a try. By far the worst takeaway ever and ended up in the bin. Covered in a thick greasy sauce...very disappointed. Having read other reviews saying how good the food is, it's clearly hit and miss as to who is cooking on a given day. If you want consistent quality, shop elsewhere.

Waited from order to pick up 2hours.

Should have reviewed this review much sooner. Their food is much better than it was in the past. It's gone from a rare to a regular place for me.

Chow mein was burnt, salty and oily, generic Iceland spring rolls and sweet and sour sauce that was like fruit cocktail juice. Won't use again although the staff were very friendly

Disappointing meal, food had very little flavour, salt & chilli chips fried in flour and again little flavour despite returning them to the restaurant, chef replacing. Will not order again ☹️

The plain roast pork is great, stay away from the chow mein specials they are OK not as good as the regular chow main dishes, the staff are friendly, I hope your bumped funny bone gets better

The food tasted very authentic and it was affordable. I would definitely go there again.
