Happy Valley in South Ribble

My go 2 Chinese and chippy every time.

I have been buying Chinese take aways and chips from Happy Valley on and off for the last 10 years. I can’t fault the Chinese food, as this has always been to my and my family’s liking. It’s our go to Chinese, local and fairly priced. The chips however are a different story: We bought some a few months ago and they were hard and chewy, I mean hurt your teeth and gums hard and chewy! We put this down to it being late on in the evening and perhaps they were the last of the chips that had been left out. Roll on a few months later and my partner bought some this week to have for our tea. I’d forgotten about our previous experience, but we were soon reminded as we tucked into them! They were truly awful. For £2.70 for a small portion, it’s a rip off. I don’t know if it’s how they’re cooked, the potatoes, the oil they’re cooked in, or if they’re re cooked from the previous day? They really are bad and only fit for the bin. I don’t know how a potato can be cooked to such imperfection! I am never going to buy chips from here again. It’ll be John Dory from now on! It’s now left me wondering whether it’s worth changing to a different takeaway for our Chinese meals too. Perhaps? It’s a shame as the food here used to be so good. The staff have always been pleasant and I’ve no problem with the service. But those chips………

Fresh, tasty Chinese dishes. Friendly staff, very reasonable prices, 5 star hygiene rating. First timers here and we're very pleased. Just as good as the old fulwood takeaway

No idea what's happening to this place. The chips are like warm up been in twice in the last two weeks and had to throw the chips away disgusting warm ups .chow mein noodles are lovely and always order then .going to give the place a miss from now on .sorry 😔

Dreadful. Rank texture and no flavour to the beef curry, chips and rice. Salt and pepper chicken pretty dire too. Won't be visiting again.

In a word: DISGUSTING. There was more vegetables than noodles and meat in the chow mein and the noodles were like hairs they were that thin. The ‘crispy’ shredded beef was anything but crispy and was covered in an oily brown water substance that was the opposite end of the scale when it comes to a sauce. The only thing that was edible was the chicken fried rice and the chips, the rest went in the bin and now we’re waiting for pizza. Avoid this place at all costs, you’ll only be as disappointed as I am and you’ll hate yourself for not listening to me.

This takeaway used to be the absolute best in Preston. It used to have perfect service and you had to wait for your order because the ottoman was so big. It was a pleasure to wait because you knew you were in for a treat. We have just had a simple meal from here smh while not being bad, it was far from good. I personally had a beef curry and fried rice. It's obviously made from a powdered mix. The only other ingredient was onion...... And one pea..... It was palatable but that's about it. Very little flavour, a complete lack of ingredients,. The rice was nice. The meal was not. My wife had a beef chow mein which suffered the same symptoms. My advice is to go to Gwok Hing. Unfortunately they weren't open. Sort it your stuff and get back to how you used to be.

Friendly staff but the food was awful. Our usual chinese is closed on a Tuesday so thought we'd try here. The battered chicken balls were inedible, rock hard chicken yet raw undercooked batter. Salt and pepper chips had no flavour and the satay sauce was tastless and nothing like any other satay sauces we've had. The sweet and sour chicken was ok although chicken texture wasn't the best.

Awful. Rock hard chicken balls. Greasey burnt prawn toast. Spring rolls awful & the chicken chow mein dry & should be called onion chow mein. Awful what a waste. The only edible thing was the curry sauce.

Awful food. Chicken balls were hard, chicken chow mein dry & tasted of cold fat. Prawn toast was revolting! Rang to complain we couldn't eat it, the lady said ok it was cooked fresh no problem?? No apology or refund. Waste of £30 odd quid

tonight I had salt and pepper chicken pieces with egg fried rice and curry sauce.. The chicken pieces were deep fried and in my opinion re- heated in a microwave so much so that the chicken was dried out, stringy and inedible. Absolutely awful ! It ended up in the bin and I won't be visiting again. Previously have enjoyed this takeaway under the previous owners but the new people need to seriously improve or their business will go downhill fast

Worse takeout meal we have has in years. Food wos tasteless poor quality beef was like rubber. Sweet sour chicken was rock hard . Rice wos like slime. Prawn toast over cooked chips tasted like they were reheated and cooked day before.

The worst takeout we have had in years. I even took the food back. Reply wos swear sour chicken balls are suppose to be crispy. My reply these are rock hard the dog cant even bite into em !! Everything tasted it had been warned up

Always very tasty and great portions. Once you've tried somewhere else, try Happy Valley, then you'll understand.

Really bad. Such a shame. Was my regular treat and always a fabulous meal. I knew locals who went several times a week. My recent meals have been really awful. Wont be goin back ! The reputation has gone.

the website shows that you are open until 1.15pm - I drove there today at 12.50 and the shop was closed.

We are never disappointed with the meal we choose. Always perfectly cooked and hot when we get it home back to lostock Hall. The curries are fantastic, the chow mein is to die for and the chips are yummy. 😋 you have got to definitely try the happy valley xx

Been going here for many years,, but with covid etc got used to staying at home... Son said lets go to Happy Valley,,not been for ages..Well i nad chicken and pineapple...well i think it was,, it looked like it,, but didnt taste of anything..the chicken was like a chunk of slippery chewey tasteless rubber. Overfilled with onions and pineapple that for some reason didnt taste of anything...so bland!,, Im afraid im not going to waste my money here,,,went in the bin........

Unfortunately this place appears to be on the decline - wasn't impressed with our last meal. It's gone from super fresh to salty as hell just like all the others in the area.

This was our favourite local Chinese. However our recent takeaway wasn't great, a bit disappointed with the quality of the food.

It used to be one of my favourite chinese's. I won't go there again, price increase of £1.55, the curry dishe's overloaded with onion to bulk it up. Apparently changed owner's and definitely not worth a visit, my order was ready within 2 minute's, on my past 2 visit's and only warm, not piping hot as normal.

Used to be my go to but definitely will not be returning. Ordered salt and pepper chicken had 2 bits and binned it. Chips was soggy aswell.

I have been visiting this place for years and have always loved the food. I have recommended happy valley to many people over the years and I have always had positive feedback about the quality of the food. I hadn’t been here for a couple of months and decided to go last night. I ordered all my usual favourites and when I got home with my food and was excited to dig in, unfortunately this is when it became apparent the food had changed for the worse. Some of the food was cold, the ribs where terrible and mostly fat and the overall flavour was not good. In all the years I have been going here this is the first time I’ve had a bad meal. I hear there are new owners. I hope they quickly realize the reason this place was always popular was because of the great food and make a change asap.

This Chinese as previously stated was amazing and the go out of your way to order from. However since change of hands a few months ago it has become awful. Food not the same, Portions, taste and the amount of vegetables that have replaced the staple of the item is outrageous. Gave it a couple of attempts since take over but sadly will not return.

This was the best Chinese for miles unfortunately it's recently changed hands and I really don't rate it anymore. It's run of the mill now. It used to have lots of different vegetables in the dishes but now fills up on onions. Shame.

Been coming here for the last 24 years and it's been the best Chinese in the area by far. Last 3 or 4 weeks the food has been not so good, what's happened feel disappointed. Will be giving it a break for a while for sure.

Always rated this place very highly but a couple of times I have had a chicken dish and the chicken is so rubbery and inedible. The last time I put it down to a bad experience but after tonight's meal I won't be going back. Salt and pepper ribs are amazing though. A friend said her chicken dish was aweful too. Such a shame as I thought happy valley was the best .

Worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had ... Ordered a Singapore fried rice ... Rice was just terrible and curry sauce was just a strange flavour ... Service was good but definitely will not be going back again 😔

Went to Preston and decided to go for a Chinese so was recommended here and I must say, the food was cooked to perfection and very quick too. The staff were so nice, especially the lovely woman who served us. Highly recommend without a doubt :)

I've been coming to happy valley for over 20years but moved away and hadn't been in a while. Oh how disappointed I was after receiving my order. Crispy shredded beef is more like wet, sloppy dog meat in some watery chilli sauce! It use to be so good but not any more. The salt and pepper chips were soft and mushy with the odd bit of chilli and onions! Tastless vegetable fried rice, have you forgot what seasoning is?! What a disappointment and what ruined meal!! The reign of happy Valley is definitely over

Good but the chips are warm ups. The fried rice let's it down too! Have to say the curry is amazing and other favourites as well.

We go here because my partner loves the salt and pepper dishes. However I got special fried rice and it was so bland I couldn't eat it. It tasted like boiled rice not egg fried rice like you'd expect. The OK sauce dishes are ok but really sour. Salt and pepper chips could be better too, they were soggy the last time I had them. Other than the food the service is quite poor, they give you a time to collect your food and you always end up waiting another 20 minutes until it comes out, I'm convinced they don't start cooking until you turn up. It's not bad but there are better Chinese takeaways.

I have used this Chinese Takeaway for many years now and have akways been haopy with the service. I especially enjoy the fish and chips.

I have used this Chinese for many a year since living in Walton le dale. Not anymore as i worked with a mate today and his story was shocking!! He and his fiance ordered food only 3 weeks ago and it was the spring rolls in question?. He ate them with his fingers whilst his fiancee sliced them with a knife and fork. She saw 2 things crawling on her plate wich we can only assume where maggots! I said didnt you report it? He said no, hence my review. Never will i eat again from this place🤢🤢

Dry 'Peking style ribs, Pork and Duck special and chips. Perfect portion for two people, always freshly made and piping hot

Visited here last week and ordered the usual. Salt and pepper chicken, crispy seaweed and special fried rice x2. Salt and pepper chicken wasnt it's usuall standard but passable. Seaweed ok But the special fried rice had no taste whatsoever been coming here for the past 2 years. But has recently gone downhill big time. £13 wasted. Time to find another chinese.

We have used this Chinese for many years without disappointment, really good quality food, big portion sizes and good value. As stated by others, a delivery service would be great but it's worth the drive. I love the chicken in black bean, by far the best i've sampled. Here's to many more happy trips to happy valley.

I bought some chips, and returned to work, to find I'd bought the worse chips ever. They were half cooked, then reheated and barely warm! Not recommended, at all.

There chips are disgusting they are clearly warmed up from the night before,they will lose custom selling old chips,will be going else were next time

Had special fried rice salt and pepper chips spring rolls and prawn crackers shared with work mate while working in area all fantastically fresh and tasty.

The curry’s and the curry sauce is fantastic however the chips can sometimes be a bit hard

Always the same standard and the chips are cooked separately meaning they are suitable for coeliacs

This place is just incredible, the food is absolutely amazing, we come all the time, last time was back in April, the food was amazing, always is...staff very friendly and helpful and prices are really reasonable...I can't find any better quality Chinese food in the whole of Lancashire, this place is just amazing, thank you!

Love the ribs they are soooo meaty not keen on the sauce so ask for dry ribs and the meat just falls off the bone. Spring rolls,curry and sweet n sour are good,but the fried rice is tasteless no egg hardly! 😕

Disappointing. I ordered a curry special. The meat was not at all tender. From arriving and ordering i was waiting barely 5 minutes. Very disappointing perhaps more attention to preparing and presentation would solve all the problem.

This place does the greatest chow mien! The chips can be a bit hit and miss though. The place is always busy, so advised to ring through your order before collecting 😉

We stopped using this take away some time ago due to soggy chips made with cheap potatoes but tried again this evening to see if the quality of the food had improved. No! It hasn't, same again. Fish batter was soggy with a tiny bit of dried up fish inside and the chips were just awful, soggy and tasteless. Wont ever be going again.

This is a long established chinese chippy take away with a proper chip range in the front and a chinese kitchen out the back. The chips have always been nice enough though not the best in the area, I actually prefer the chips from the Contented Sole on Hennel Lane but Happy Valley is in walking distance, the Contented Sole isn't that much better that I would drive to it instead. The chip portions are big, a large chips does two adults easily, especially if you are having other things or have the chips as part of a chinese meal. The Chinese meals are similarly priced to others in the area and generally quite acceptable, the sweet and sour chicken is a bit of a disappointment if you like big juicy battered pieces of chicken and theirs is thin, breaded a bit chewy, otherwise I've not had any issues with their chinese menu. The staff are always polite and efficient and I've never knowingly been short changed or ended up with someone else's order.

I go here every week they are very friendly and always provide the best service food is of good quality and in my opinion isn't that expensive for what you get in terms of quality and quantity.

we always get disappointed with chinese meals from elsewhere - every time we go to Happy Valley - we are astounded by the quality - food is freshly cooked - not stored for later and delicious - Highly recommend - about time you got on to Just Eat! :)

Not tried the Fish and Chips, but the Chinese food is excellent. May be worth phoning ahead as I had to wait quite a while on a Saturday night - but that gave me reassurance my order was freshly cooked.

I find it hard to believe some of the reviews on here saying what wonderful food they serve here.We tried the other night fore the first time and were less than impressed. The chicken was a soggy mess and the noodle dish just tasted strange.Disappointing.

Have been coming here for 20 years or more and you cannot get a better Chinese in the area! Only wish they offered a delivery service - we would pay for the privilege although our waistlines wouldn't thank us for it haha

We've been visiting this chippy for the last 15 years, ever since a mate of mine recommend it. Said friend lives 5 miles from the chippy but it's so good he won't go anywhere else. Prompt service, friendly staff, great food.

You've got to try the food here, you're silly not to, it's top quality! Can only remember having two issues in years of visits and they were dealt with superbly. Pity they don't deliver, but u understand also!

BEST CHINESE /CHIPPY IN SOUTH RIBBLE,

One of my favourite Chineses on the weekend. however I would NOT recommend during the week ! It is blatantly obvious they cook and reheat there chips throughout the day because they have broken my teeth on 3 separate occasions now, really dreadful, no flavour.
