Happy Gathering in Cheltenham

Worst takeaway, ordered slat and pepper prawn but you can see the batter which was really thick and undercooked. Plain chowmein was under cooked as well and both of them lack of flavour. Literally had to put prawn in airfry to get fully cooked.

Almost inedible. Flavourless, with a weird chemical tang and off-putting smell.

We have used this takeaway several times in the past. Yesterday's meal was a real disappointment. New cook??? Really lacking flavour and in the chow mean virtually no veg or chicken just dry flavourless noodles.

Happy Gathering is soooo yummy delight.

A very clean takeaway and friendly staff. The food though was on the whole pretty good but in my opinion it was a little bland tasting. Also the crispy beef was anything but crispy, it was of a more gelatinous texture. The sweet and sour chicken balls were also not very crispy but tasted lovely. Also the chicken chow mein could have done with being more tasty very plain tasting it was. The curry sauce and the pineapple and mixed meat fried rice was to die for absolutely gorgeous. And the chips were very crispy too. The complimentary prawn crackers were appreciated.

Chicken with pineapple and cashews. Loved it yum yum. We also had chicken balls which were top draw.

During my stay in Cheltenham I looked for a nearby Chinese takeaway and came across the Happy Gathering. I wasn’t disappointed with this food at all and found it to be of good quality and tasty. I would definitely visit again if staying in the area. I had the Young Chow fried rice, chicken curry and the portion of chips came with it, lovely.

Well, the best l have had from them today, super cooked, good clean fresh food, big potions, great service.

Lovely friendly service, food is hot and tasty. Good traditional Chinese food takeaway. Call in advance and the food is ready when you get there. It is cash only though.

Had the chicken chow mien and egg fried rice, absolutely no flavour what so ever. I also found a long hair in my food whilst eating. Absolutely disgusting. They also only took cash, terrible place.

Best Chicken Wings in Cheltenham :)

Awful service received from Happy Gathering. Ordered duck pancakes and they forgot to give the pancakes. Refused any offering of good Will gesture (I suggested part refund for the duck). Only option was to drive back and collect them with no compensation at all for the inconvenience and the fact that our food was going cold in the meantime. Will not use again or recommend.

I had a chicken chow mein dish and sweet and sour. Both were very poor quality with very little flavour in the chow mein. I will not be revisiting

Really poor. So disappointing. I asked which chow mien and was recommended the house. When we opened it it was like brown sludge. Little flavour, over cooked and very glutinous. Then opened the king prawn and cashew and exactly same brown sludge tasteless sauce. Found bits of celery which was a bit unexpected and which looked like it had been cooking for several days. an experience to repeat.

I have tried many Chinese takeaways around Gloucester and Cheltenham and Stroud. This is the best. I always have the same dish from all the establishments and here the ingredients have colour and are fresh. Nearly all the other's food appears grey and limp. Ok, the cooking and service isn't always the quickest, but for flavour I return once a week.

We have had hundreds of meals from this place over the years and 99% have been chicken curry and rice with crackers. We visited over the Easter period and everything was as usual first class. Lovely Curry, piping hot and plenty of it - also served bang on time

Really nice takeaway food if you are prepared to wait. Saturday evening we had to wait in the shop for over one hour. It wasn't really that busy just painfully slow service. When the food eventually arrived it was very nice. Just very slow.

Great food...but 40 mins wait....so order and go for a swift half!

Had a crispy chilli beef, very nice sauce and good quality meat

Super greasy, spring rolls were dripping with cooking fat, chicken balls tased odd, the sauce with it had a layer of grease, the egg noodles were over cooked and and contained mainly peppers, also had odd tastes in it. Sorry but really no care.

A respectable place to eat, nice menu and good quality food.

Been using this place for a long time but last night had to wait nearly an hour for a tiny order. If there is a long delay should be told on ordering and given the choice. China House delivers quicker!

Just been waiting in the takeaway for 40 minutes for sweet and sour pork, chicken and mushrooms and egg fried rice. Still not ready! And no apology - Appalling! And there was only one customer before me.

We have used Happy Gathering for many years but something has gone terribly wrong in the last few months. I ordered over the phone and arrived at the time they said it would be ready. Continued to wait another 45 minutes or more. It took one and a half hours to be ready from ordering. They said they had a new chef. I could accept this, but what made me angry and disappointed was the complete lack of customer care in response to such poor service. No offer of a discount, or even a free drink or something while waiting. You've lost a customer Happy Gathering.

Ordered in advance over then phone then arrived at the agreed time. 40 minutes later still waiting. Staff do not appear to have any sense and regard dissatisfaction with the delivery time as amusing. "It will be ready when it's ready".

My husband and I popped in after a few drinks at the local pub yesterday. We ordered Chicken Chow Mein, Happy Gathering Fried Rice, Prawn Crackers and Cantonese Chicken. We were five. A random porky gravy dish instead of the Cantonese Chicken but didn’t ring to complain as it was so much faff and it tasted ok, but we certainly wouldn’t have that dish again. The Chow Mein and Rice were alright but they weren’t bursting with flavour. We have certainly has better Chinese’s but this is good for a local and the price was reasonable. There is room for improvement however...

They always cook the prawns to perfection, fresh tasty flavours. Their chicken balls are perfect, not too much batter. Very friendly and clean takeaway. Lucky to have them on our door step for a cheeky takeaway when we can't be bothered cooking.

We had a takeaway. Starter was nice but small, I cannot fault the BBQ spare ribs however the duck came with very little sauce. Main course: -Beef with green pepper and black bean sauce was nice, so was the rice and the house special chow mein wasn't bad. However, we ordered a king prawn foo young and the prawns were half grey and the ends were slightly pink, this was worrying to look at and then they tasted nothing like a cooked prawn, this was disappointing and meant this dish had to be binned. A final compliment would be that the service was quick, however I wouldn't have mind waiting an extra 5 minutes so that I could have cooked prawns.

We tack the kids to there every Saturday they love it the staffs really nice I would recommend it to people

Quality chinese take out foods. An excellent selection.

I'm pretty old so have had many Chinese Takeaways. This was probably the classiest and most delicious ... but I really would have found it handy to see a menu online and then be able to pay with a debit card. But it's cash or cheque only and nothing online yet. Though DON'T BE PUT OFF BY THE PAYMENT / T'INTETRNET stuff!

Been trying to find a decent Chinese Takeaway for ages. Found this one on Trip advisor and decided to give it a go. Only been once, but the House Special Curry I had was top notch.

We have returned again and again. Great food at a decent price. Very friendly staff, a good selection on the menu and all freshly cooked.
