Chop Suey House in Cheltenham

I live locally and have started using this takeaway, the first couple of times the food was good,then it started to go downhill, I had ordered a dish which I liked so I ordered a large portion along with chips,after querying the price,which seemed wrong I took my food home, even though I only live five minutes away the meal was lukewarm, and a bland taste, the chips,ok they were hot , looked like though they had been standing for a long time,dry was not the word, the meal ,got thrown away, again dry, will be asking, questions.

Best takeaway I have had for a long time.Fresh hot delicious,house special chow mein was first class.Staff very friendly and food cook fresh when ordered.highly recommended.

We have just had our first meal from Chop Suey House, it was delicious, the spare ribs were the best we have had. I think the meal was good value for money and was well cooked and tasty. The staff were helpful , as I have an allergy. We will certainly be ordering again.

So sorry, but this is truely the worst Chinese I have had in years. Food is totally tasteless. Two totally different dishes, look and taste (less) exactly the same. 27 pounds totally wasted. Couldn’t find one piece of egg, in egg fried rice .

A lot of hype said about this place and very disappointed very bland with very little meat in the dishes we had as for the duck and vegetable spring rolls ???? They were exactly the same with 2 small pieces of duck and a very thick chewy roll and couldn't eat them either !!!! Sorry not a good experience 😕

Staying in the area, arrived late all hungry. Absolutely vile. Made quite a big order, asked for sweet corn soup and got given chicken and sweet corn which mean the vegan couldn’t eat it, chips were undercooked, asked for crispy beef and got given crispy seaweed, small portion of sweet and sour sauce which was extremely watery and tasted like dishwater, non of the dishes we ordered had any flavour, vegetables undercooked and vegetable dish tasted like wet dog, found hair in two of the dishes. 15 minutes after trying to eat two of us experienced extreme bout of squits which I am hoping doesn’t last all night and continue into tomorrow as we have a funeral to attended which we have flown a long way to do so. Returned all food as they agreed to refund over the phone but then was unable to do refund on his machine..apparently. Soo disappointed I have absolutely no idea how they have gotten good reviews. The only thing that was consumable was the cans of drinks and fruit shoot that we purchased.

Came here after work as I'm new to the area and wasn't sure where to go. We had rice chips and curry sauce and it was amazing 🤤😍 We had it in a tray and it was piping hot so much so we had to wait for it to cool down. The curry sauce was so sweet and smooth , the chips were in my opinion cooked to perfection and the rice well it was the best bit large chucks of egg sweet brown rice perfect 😍 The service was super friendly, we even had a chat and before we knew it our food was ready. Will be returning for a bigger order

This place should not be allowed to trade advertising itself as a Chinese takeaway. The principal does not understand the difference between flat rice noodles and vermicelli. The hot and sour soup gives a clue - vegetables in a cornflour loaded white stock. This place caters for British people who know absolutely nothing of the cuisine of China or Asia. If you want Chinese or Aian food go eslewhere. If you want an interpretation for food ignorant people, it's still horrid. The food is vile.

Have used this takeaway regularly for 26 years. Lovely family, great service and meals are aiways of the highest quality.

Payed for a large they gave me a small the sweet & sour sauce is revolting rice was greasy chips was not cooked properly avoid if you can

The worse Chinese food I ever tasted. AVOID! I thrown the food in the bin and generally I am easy with food. Trust me 🤮

Understand the culture and you understand the conversations!!! Great owner understands what you want and great memory for customers. Been twice now on work trip and will be back whenever I can. Food is great with plenty of meat and very tasty. You grumpy locals should get out of town more then you would appreciate what you have on your doorstep!!!!

If you value your stomach lining you'd do best to avoid. Whilst the service was friendly enough, the meat spring roll gave me apocalyptic, acute food poisoning 4-5 hrs after eating and I wouldn't say I have a weak consistution. I hope they will review their hygiene practices. Food poisoning can be fatal and needs to be taken seriously.

Went in and was met with a very rude man who has absolutely no idea of what customer service might be. I paced a food order which came to £25. This was then followed by 10 minutes of very load and quite aggressive shouting in Chinese between the man and a woman in the kitchen. It was actually quite conical at first but very rapidly became tiresome and really quite annoying. The man then came to me saying 'that will be £25.50' when I told him that the price before was £25 he said 'yes but you ask for some chilli in your foo young' He was aggressive in his manner. I thought it was ridiculous that I was expected to pay an extra 50p for a bit of chilli put in some of my food when I was spending £25 and was really quite fed up with his attitude by this time so I decided to leave. I went to a place just a couple of hundred yards up the road and was met with a completely different experience, very friendly and welcoming. The place was called Golden mountain and the food was good. AVOID THIS PLACE!

I’ve been to this Chinese a few times now, but the quality of my most recent visit was shocking. Mixed the curry & rice together in the same container, the rice didn’t even resemble rice. No egg in the rice, even though I had ordered egg fried rice and the chicken in the curry tasted disgusting, over cooked, dry and tasteless. Shall not be returning. Very disappointing, considering most of the Chinese takeaways in Cheltenham have been unsatisfactory, I really thought this one was better but clearly standards have dropped!

Fancied a Chinese Takeaway and was passing by. I wish I had carried on to somewhere else. Elderly gentleman serving was quite abrupt, and zero flexibility. Wanted to change pork to chicken on set menu, No. Could I have Cantonese Sweet and Sour instead of regular, No. So many other more friendly places in town, will steer clear of this one.

Best and oldest Chinese take away doing lots of special dishes e.g. with Ho fun noodles.

If you hanker for an 80's Chineese then this is it. Bland meals, MSG laden, frozen offerings. If you want nice food, this is Cheltenham - there are probably 500 better places, for me this is bottom of the list. Chop Suey- Chop off the list. Terrible.

Best place to get a Chinese in Cheltenham

It's overpriced, and the staff were trying to push spring rolls on me. Also the fried rice was overdone and not worth the £7.something I paid for it.

This is a cash only shop which does not deliver. We ring our order in and just collect it. You park on the road out front which makes it very convenient. The meals are hot and excellent tasting. It is worth the effort to pick it up yourself. The staff are very friendly and are great to deal with. Everything is perfect for this little gem on Prestbury road opposite Pittville Gates.

Food quality was generally poor and noticed when we got home some of it was missing. The online menu is very wrong as many of the items on it apparently ‘don’t exist’ and prices are more in the store. Also ordered banana fritters which were meant to have come with a maple syrup - what we got tasted and smelt very alcoholic just like some sort of liquor which was strange. Customer service was friendly however, shame the food and order issues ruined the experience. 4/10 Stars - Incorrect Order - Outdated/Incorrect Online Menu - Mis-stated Menu + Friendly Staff

Staying nearby called in one Tuesday evening, steady stream of other customers. I enjoyed a Special Chop Suey - smaller size. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the duck spring roll. On this experience I would recommend it.

Awful food - really do not know how they get good reviews!!! No prawns and as for a curry - so powdery and who batters there chicken balls with chip shop batter and puts salt and vinegar on them??!!! When I called to complain about small portions and not great food manager hung up!!! How rude. Avoid like the plague!!!

This is my local for Chinese dining. The family than run it are amazing. We have a chat talk about everything. Even knows my orders off by heart Sonu had to change it up every now and then! Highly highly recommend this amazing place.

the best Chinese in the country been coming here since I was a kid will never go anywhere else for Chinese the food is cooked to order not like other Chineses where they warm it up in horrible plastic tubs. 10/10
