Happy Family in Brighton and Hove

This place is so expensive compared to other Chinese shops in the area my order came to £30 Best place to order is Swallow house or kums Cheap, taste 100% and save around 13 pound

Order from here last night and everything was great. Would eat here again. 10/10

First time ordering from Happy Family, can confidently say this will be my new go to! Every other Chinese I've tried in Brighton is bland and boring. Food arrived piping hot, earlier than the scheduled delivery time.It is not oily and has great taste and spice levels. Singapore fried rice was perfect, flavorful and spicy but not too overpowering. The BEST thing was the Capital Spare Ribs, they're absolutely delicious and fall off the bone. Curry sauce is thick and the crunchy vegetable spring rolls are addictive. I got prawn crackers for free which is a lovely touch. Highly recommend!! My only fault is that they open late so I can't get something during my lunch break.

There's definitely two or three other Chinese takeaways that are closer to my house but they're just not good enough for several reasons. I totally recommend the house special noodles (soft not crispy and wet with gravy style) and the spicy Szechuan dishes - I like the pork and the chicken versions. Hot, filling, tasty, and excellent delivery service. I may not be nearby but I'll definitely be back. My search is over.

Been ordering from Happy Family for past couple of years.Suddenly food quality dropped in past few months and I stopped ordering.But today I decided to give a final go and I was surprised of portions and how good it tasted.Banging meal for me and my girlfriend.Keep it up please and I will be ordering again

I haven't been to happy family for a while,I ordered chicken chow mein,prawn crackers and pineapple fritters,I was quite disappointed with the chow mein,the chicken was dry,and the noodles and bean sprouts were,nt very good either, pineapple fritters the batter was soggy,the best part of the meal were the prawn crackers.its a shame because it used to be good.it was lovely when it was new china.

I've ordered from here before food is ok however service is really poor. I was trying to order tonight spoke to a lady who kept putting me on hold repeatedly to answer other calls re: for other orders I ended up speaking to three different members of staff who knew nothing about my order I had placed obviously I cancelled my order and they still called me back!!! I'll reiterate food is standard but ok ...this really upset me because there shop is only across the road..unfortunately I'm a very disabled...

Using the service for a long time . Everything is good, the food is much better than other takeaway.

Ordered £14.00 of food. Got message min order for delivery £16.00 so upped the order to £17.80. Then when checked out £1.80 delivery added + 50p online surcharge, whatever that is + 20p carrier bag surcharge. Made an.oder that was originally £14.00 in excess of £20.00. So decided to visit to avoid all tbe surcharges. Was meant with man on the phone who then disappeared out back, then reappeared, still on phone, and didn't even acknowledge my presence. So I left. I'm afraid I will never use the takeaway again, nor recommend it to my friends, especially locals.

Ordered my usual food at this place. Never had any problems Dished up the food for my two daughters then mine. Had about 3 mouthfuls until I found a cooked snail in my food. They are trying to say I put the snail in my own food to try to get a full refund / another load of the food for free. I am sickened to the thought of a snail being in my food, had to throw the whole thing away! Absolutely disgusting

Very average, beige tasting Chinese. Overall disappointing but the salt and chilli squid was nice out of the 7 dishes I had.

Had a few takeaways from here and always excellent .Loads of ingredients in the Currys and just the right flavours and spices .tried a few different Currys from here and all of them have been delicious .big thumbs up 👍

I was extremely disappointed with the meal I had today. The rice was lukewarm with cold parts, the duck was very fatty, the soup had an odd flavour, and whilst the prawn crackers were free, they were chewy and seemed stale. I would have recommended this place years ago, but I cannot now. The price keeps increasing, but the quality has greatly declined.

I must say the chicken portion sizes and all of it was the best I’ve ever seen in a very long ,great value for money I must say for this I rated at five star for portion size and the flavour was good too. 🌈👍🏻🤠🤠 excellent. I will be using these instead of my local Chinese now.

Ordered food for it to never arrive

An authentic Chinese takeaway away place which is quite reasonable and also can be ordered online. Quick service, the quantity of servings per order is really great per person or two. Polite owners are friendly to talk to. Special tries- chicken dishes and fried rice, sea food fried rice or noodles, and gravy dishes are good. For bachelors or family who wanna try Chinese takeaway is a great place.

Chose happy family for our New Years Eve feast and was not disappointed! Perfect chicken balls, delicious ious crispy beef, amazing lemon chicken... probably tye best Chinese takeaway I have ever had.

Having a stay in Brighton for a couple nights a week during the lockdown decided to have a Chinese look some up online and thought I’d try them out. Only one criticism feel like it’s not the most friendliest place to go in or takeaway. But one thing I will say it was the food was gorgeous hot very quick. Iv used them twice now and I’ve not been disappointed .

I’ve been twice and both times I’ve received a lot of food. But the flavours were just ok. I won’t bother trying the place a 3rd time. Their side order of plain boiled rice is very overpriced (almost £4)!

They posted a vegetarian menu in my uni pigeonhole so I decided to try it out. The vegan ribs were so yummy and the blackbean tofu was really savoury and rich, I loved it. It would be nice if items were clearly marked vegan on the menu but most chinese sauces don't have egg or milk anyway.

Wow!! What can I say. 1st time trying the food here. And well worth the price. Lamb curry Singapore fry rice and salt and pepper chickens for 1. And I could easly severd two people. More for later yummy food. Thankyou Happy Family I shall return. Top draw grub.

I love this place. First ordered from them when they left leaflets at Sussex Uni and ordered again recently. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. The delivery drivers are always super friendly and the food arrived early both times. I love their spring rolls, super crispy and flavourful.

What happened? They must of changed The chefs. Salt and chilli wings was pure salt and cornflour. Way to salty

Good quality can vary, I got the Singapore vermicelli noodles last time, it was so bland did not taste good. Really disappointed

Delicious food, good portion size and reasonably priced. Collected our food and they cooked the squid fresh on my arrival to ensure quality. We have been a few times since it changed hands and it has got better and better. Would definitely recommend Happy Family to anyone.

Our favourite Chinese in Brighton. Wait time can vary a lot, however the food is always worth the wait. Good size portions and. Dry tasty. The spicy fried rice is a great dish with lots of chillies

BEST CHINESE AND BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I called them up and didn’t know what some of the menu items tasted like. The team explained the taste for me before I ordered. They even changed the item because I like battered chicken and the chef did it for me especially how I liked it. Very very friendly and good people. I have ordered many times from them and it is very very good food and service. Fast delivery also and Alot of vegetarian options aswell.

A group of 7 of us ordered for Valentine’s Day. The delivery was quick and food was nice and hot. Yummy! Would definitely recommend.

Used for the 1st time this evening, absolutely brilliant! Everything was delivered hot and fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes. Very good portion size and an extra bag of free prawn crackers included! Would definitely order again and highly recommend! Been using this takeaway for years now... went on Saturday not best pleased... prices gone up yet again, got takeaway home, literally live across the road and food was stone cold... ordered "Chinese chips" and got small, thin cheap frozen things that could hardly pass for a "Chinese chip"... anyone would think it was different people running it????

I AM SOOO ANNOYED TO BE DOING THIS BUT THIS IS THE WORST CHINESE RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER ORDERED FROM AND WILL NEVER ORDER AGAIN FROM HERE. THE PRICES ARE VERY EXTORTIONATE AND THEY ARE VERY RUDE WHEN YOU CALL FOR AN EXPLANATION. NEVER AGAIN. OTHER CHINESE RESTAURANTS HAVE BETTER PRICES THAN YOU AND YOUR FOOD ISN'T EVEN THE BEST. I literally was going to order from this place now but after hearing how they spoke to a mate on the phone right in front of me, friends and colleagues we all have decided not to place orders here as we were planning a theme food party. We shall be going to other Chinese restaurants. You lost yourselves a very large number of potential customers.

Brilliant! By chance a menu came through our door a couple of years back and we decided to try it. Never looked back!

Probably the worst sweet and sour chicken I've tried. Virtually no sauce with it, the chicken was hard, and cruncy, it's supposed to be soft and tender... clearly overcooked or using poor ingredients. Expensive also, £10 for a portion of sweet and sour chicken and plain boiled rice. Avoid!!

Just bought chicken fried rice and special fried rice, both meals was just boiled rice dumped in with rubbery meat, chips was burnt and frozen and paid £20 for this rubbish. Best thing you can do is avoid this place the food is vile

The food is fantastic. Just a shame that the service is utterly appalling. Ordered a takeaway on Christmas Eve at 17.25pm and its now 20:50 and we STILL don't have anything. Getting fobbed off is bever a good thing and thats all they did - "It'll be there by 20.30...." "We're just waiting on a dish so another 15 minutes...." If this was an isolated incident, I'd let it slide, but it isn't. Last time I ordered via their website, which crashed. So ordered again and paid online. When the order turned up, it was double what we ordered and on checking, they'd taken double the amount even though the amount I 'paid'was correct, otherwise I would have questioned it BEFORE paying. When I spoke to the manager he was less than helpful and tried to say that he'd only refund the chefs time, but not the ingredients as the food was delivered. When I explained the error, I was told "Well you can just eat it tomorrow....." As I said, great food let down by really poor customer service.

Decided to try a new Chinese for takeaway and came across this place. With it's great reviews and as someone with a nut allergy, it was encouraging to see the menu labelled the dishes that had nuts in and also mentioned to telephone to discuss any allergies further. Upon ringing the person answering asked for my post code to which I told them I hadn't actually ordered yet and just wanted some allergy information. I was then told that none of the dishes contain nuts, so I said I could clearly see a few things on the menu that did such as satay. I was told again 'no nuts, just cashew' so I said I couldn't eat cashew or nuts. He then proceeded to hand me over to someone else and shout in the background 'nut person on the phone' which seemed a bit insensitive. I went through my order with the second person and they asked me why I hadn't ordered yet to which I said I needed to know if there was nuts in before placing an order, as it doesn't seem logical to order without knowing the food was safe. He then told me there was no nuts but I didn't feel very convinced. I was then asked if I would going to order. I needed time to think about it, so I told them I may ring back. A few minutes later they rang back but I didn't answer as this felt quite pushy and then I got a call from an unknown mobile number which my partner answered. It was the second person from the takeaway, he once again questioned why we hadn't ordered and my partner told them that we hadn't felt confident enough to order with them to which he replied 'well you are talking to me now'. My partner told them 'no thank you, goodbye'. This felt a bit creepy and harassing. It sounds like your staff need better training in allergies and to work on your customer service.

I’ve ordered from here a few times and been ok. However Made and paid for my order over the phone. Never advised me of a time frame for delivery. After 1 hour I called to find our where my order was ??they couldn’t find it. I did say If they hadn’t even started order I would just get refund. He then put manager on phone the Manager told me he would call back on 1 min as he needed to find my order again said to him if not started then just refund me. I called back after 5 mins as the manager hadn’t called me, he told me it was being cooked and be with me in 5 mins !! Food arrived and it was the worst Chinese I’ve eaten.. the rice was pappy and had no taste to it , the curry was very powdery and the noodle dish ok ish. only ate a couple of spoonfuls and put the whole lot in the bin. Won’t be ordering from here again -

Unfortunately this restaurant cannot be trusted with providing true vegetarian/vegan dishes. I once gave them the benefit of the doubt when ordering their Sea Spicy Aubergine Vegetarian which I got with pieces of pork in. The second time the same thing happened. I suspect that they mix the leftovers or don't separate out the vegetarian and meat portions, or worse still, that they use the same frying pan without cleaning. The pieces of meat were very crispy like they had been fried a few times. Truly disgusting. Do not trust this place with your vegetarian food

I cannot talk highly enough of this place. The food was fantastic. My in laws stated it was the best Chinese food they had ever eaten anywhere. We had 7 different dishes and all were brilliant. Duck and chicken dishes were so full of tender meat. The large spring roll starters are the size of a log and a meal on their own. Satay bean under dish was massive and great as well. Massive menu including Thai food as well.

Chicken balls are the best chicken balls in town. Just tried their roast pork buns too, they are amazing. Never felt sick from here either as I do with some other Chinese takeaways. Reccomend.

I've always liked this place, but after waiting 2 hours for my delivery tonight, and rock solid chicken balls. And my chow mein and sweet and sour chicken tastes burnt think I'll give it a miss next time.

Lovely ...real chicken served here not the rubbery stuff,so much has improved since new management, it is so popular now. i used to avoid but now i just love our local Chinese....try it out will not be disappointed ..

I've been shielding, and this has been the first time in ages that I've been out to get a takeaway. As I'd heard good things about Happy Family I decided to give them a try, and I wasn't disappointed. The Kung Po beef tastes delicious without being overly spicy, the meat is nice and tender and the vegetables have just the right amount of crispiness. When I just went to pick up my meal they were extremely busy, and I'm glad that this doesn't mean that they cut any corners. I'll definitely be trying some of their other dishes in the future!

Reasonable price and quality&tasty foods. Mapo tofu and Kung po pork(sweet and chilli pork) are great!

This Chinese Takeaway used to be called Dumplings, Its New owners and Staff are really friendly and will do your food how You like it ,ie Sate Chicken without skewers or vegetables! I honestly didn't think any Takeaway could beat Dumplings on Quality, Quantity or price, I was proven wrong! Happy Family have done all of that with a Smile, If the Customer is Happy then so is Happy Family! You couldn't ask for Better.

Amazing Chinese food, especially loved the garlic Pak Choi! Came to the door earlier than expected as well, just lovely! Will be ordering again
