The Bear Inn in Brighton and Hove

I like this pub. No IPAs, unfortunately, but tremendous service from the person behind the jump. Beer garden to the rear with covered area.

Great pub! All the staff are super friendly and seem to enjoy working there! A lot of regular customers you can tell but they were all enjoying them self and were polite to myself as a new customer! Super polite brown haired girl working behind the bar who was super chatty and told us about the newly decorated beer garden which looks great! The pub itself is clean and staff are always grabbing glasses and wiping everything down. Ladies toilets were clean and tidy! After spending time in the beer garden we came inside and watched some students come in and sit down and watch the TV- after 10 minutes the staff went over and politely told them about the signs and they needed to purchase a drink even if it was just a soft drink so I can gather from previous reviews are from students that wanted to take advantage of the pub and not follow basic rules as the staff were polite!!! Amazing job, will definitely be returning to experiences the events they hold :)

Employess were very rude. There was one ugly woman, she was very annoying.

Within 10 mins of being there I was approached by 3 different members of staff rudely demanding I buy a drink in order to stay in the pub. I had every intention of buying a drink but I was deciding what to have. My 3 friends had all bought drinks and spent over £20 so I didn’t see an issue that I didn’t buy a drink within the first 10 minutes. The attitudes of the staff were disgusting, catty and extremely unprofessional. I am aware there are signs around the pub that state you must get a drink however I didn’t realise I was also on a timer. We quickly left the establishment and went to an neighbouring pub (where I had a lovely refreshing beverage in my own time and with a warm welcome). We will not be returning x

Good beer pool and a garden for dogs

Car park great.Staff at desk friendly.Clean rooms.Didnt eat here as menu is lacking.My only complaint is the soft close door bracket to bedrooms needs reviewing on first floor as the amount of doors slamming is ridiculous.I understand customers could closed the door softly if they had anything about aswell but what are the chances of that!

Went in with friends who had already bought drinks and were rudely asked to get a drink within 2 mins or we would be kicked out, so we left

The food is shocking! Don’t get it. A staff member agreed when she came to collect it but no offer for a refund at all. Waited 40 minutes for it too. It was around £10 a dish too which for the size and quality was shocking. I couldn’t finish it and neither could my friends. The drinks were good and it was friendly. Bar staff and kitchen clearly didn’t get on though. The outside area has the potential to be nice but needs so outside heaters. See also the picture of the edging in bathroom, clearly could do with some TLC. We won’t be returning

The waitress was soo rude im pretty sure it was racism. Very hostile environment and made us feel uncomfortable! I won’t go back and really don’t recommend

Just to pre warn you the new food guy does not care about customers only money he’s just been sacked from the Ruby Brighton for not paying his rent owing thousands plus the health inspectors found him laughing at a phone video showing a rat eating the rolls whilst he stop there laughing, very hygienic I must say ! Long time since I've been in the Bear . It has had a refurb since my last visit , much better as the dart area is bigger now ,(reason for visit ,) not busy on a Wednesday night so can't really comment on the atmosphere, not a place to be driving to as parking isn't easy, but when you travel from Peacehaven to Lewes road you need to drive. Very pleasant lady behind the bar .

Pool is only 1.20 but the pints are a little bit pricey

Did you know this pub comes with its own car park? I didn't, realise that the a double yellow curb on corner can be used to park on and block all its usage by those with prams and families. Well done management for allowing your patrons to take advantage of the free parking!

Gd Halloween party disco for kids

Pub who doesn't care about a community they are in. There are cars, (either employee or customer) parked on pavement/double yellow + corner every single weekend as well as during the week. Not only illegal but also disgraceful to families who are trying to walk past and it is hardly managable as little space is left. Owner should care a bit more what's around rather than his pub.

Went in today for a bite of lunch, they had some problems with the kitchen but the owner knocked us up some tasty burgers, nice selection of lagers, would def visit again

I’ve loved having a beer with friends before a night out in the bear it’s located on the Lewis road so it’s easy to get to the clubs or restaurants at a quick pace. Friendly service and happy smiles, you can find this pub ironically at the bottom of bear road. The proof is in the pudding and this pub has been around for decades watching other pubs fall by the wayside so it must be doing something right.

The Bear Inn Brighton, has recently had a major refurb, still has the same warm welcome from Paula & the rest of her team. Still very much a local pub, but with a totally new look, the bar & seating have improved dramatically. The side bar now contains a Pooltable, Darts & Sky tv & the Gents are a revelation. The beer garden & menu top it all off.

Very expensive and a bit of a dry atmosphere. We were there for the pub quiz and no one seemed overly interested but the group I was with.

Went to watch the champions league since they advertise that they play live sports. When I entered only one game was on, I asked if the game I wanted to watch could be put on one of the multiple TVs they had and the person behind was very nice and said they would ask their boss. I can only guess the boss said no because my game was never put on. I'm sure it's a lovely pub to have a pint and I may return just for that, but whenever I want to watch football I'll go elsewhere.

Came in to watch the FA Cup final. Was quickly reminded to sanitise my hands. Normally would be offended but during the current times make me you assured they have put measures in place. Tables we’re well spaced and service was superb.

Un pub fantástico. Tienen una selección estupenda de cervezas y sidras. La comida está muy bien y a muy buen precio. El local está limpio y ordenado, y tienen un beer garden detrás. Los baños están bien, y la música del local también. Muy recomendable.

Love it there, a childhood of many memories to cherish with my mum and dad. Also fab fun times with friends, oh and almost forgot ooooppppssss...... , drinks, food, staff, and the refurb are of high standards aswell. 👍 😊

Is it possible to give zero stars? Went reluctantly as there are always fights and shock horror, yet another one!! Just don't go.

Terrible pub with the worst food and staff ever !! The Bear Pub in Brighton has always had a bad reputation since being taken over by the current Landlady whom I believe is called Paula. It's had a recent refurb so my friends and I deceided to give it another chance. Unfortunately it's still under the same management and this turned out to be an absolutely awful experience. We were being stared at by this ugly faced Landlady the moment we walked in as if we were not welcome here. We were ignored by staff when waiting to be served whilst they chatted to a group of scruffy builders hanging around the bar. When we did actually get served it was with a bad and blunt attitude but worst of all the food took over 45 mins and arrived cold and under cooked. We decided just to finish our drinks and leave the food without complaining but we'll never return. This pub should be avoided until the brewery change the bad management.

Awful staff...I went in for my meal break wich was 50 mins...before I placed my food order I asked how long it will take to get my food ready , they said 20 mins....after 45 mins no one knows what happened with my food. So back to work hungry thanks to them👇👇👇👇👇👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿

Paula the landlady is very welcoming and her staff are also very pleasant. The pub has a good atmosphere and you can get a nice pint, what more do you need.

This pub used to be great! Now not so much!! Put a negative review on their Facebook page and was messaged by staff with abuse both publicly and privately. Kind of saids it all particularly as they barred me because of my review. So if you have an opinion I'd avoid it.

A Great pub, one of the best in Brighton! Friendly staff and cheap drinks with a great atmosphere. They have a pool table and darts board, couches and great seating. A good range of drinks and good range of events which they host, including a darts team and all the locals students favourite! Pub Quiz on a Sunday! And they have 2 skyboxes and always have the game on, a pub you can rely on! The only drawback they have is that they don't sell a wide range of food, but being a students pub we don't wanna buy food when we can buy it across the road at Sainsbury's we want to come down for some drinks and fun! AND That's Exactly what the Bear is! Great Pub!
