Went in for dinner with a friend, amazing atmosphere! The owner definitely has an eye for detail! Extremely friendly saff had great service. I had a flat iron steak and it was perfectly done with amazing flavor. Definitely will be returning! 😊😊😊

Had a fantastic Sunday roast dinner. I believe I'm a roast connoisseur and this roast was luxurious. The meat was perfect. I will definitely be returning again.

Booked a lunch for business colleagues, had confirmation email of booking from Catch and Grill. When arrived for the booking the place was empty, had to shout for a member of staff to come. He said there was definitely no bookings and wasn't serving lunch. Despite me saying I had an email of booking confirmation, he didn't ask to see it, just said no bookings and no lunches served today. Terrible customer service and none of us will return again.

My husband and I had the Grilled Gambas and Grilled Sardines and we loved how simple but tasty they are! Friendly staffs and romantic ambience. Love the restaurant's vibe so much plus they have good selection of drinks. Recommended for date nights!

Loved my Rib Eye as cooked perfectly and my wife’s Monk fish was delicious.

Was recommended the sea bass with a bottle of pino from the server, was a great choice

Appalling. We visited for a mother's day lunch. The restaurant was not very busy at the time. The menu is very limited..nothing like what is on their website. Only 2 starters to choose from and 2 fish mains and a choice of 3 roasts. One of the fish mains were not available. The wine we wanted- also unavailable. The starters were tasty however the mains were a disaster- the roast potatoes were soggy, the Yorkshire was chewing and the parsnips were as tough as boots(uncooked). Our sides were forgotten and then didnt turn up until we had finished. Then our wine was forgotten. The waiter did his best ..he was apologetic but the other 3 tables also had issues with raw chicken being served and another table waiting 45 mins with no food. Apparently the kitchen was messing up. Doubt they will be open much longer. Trust the reviews and don't waste your money

Went her for mother's day and was very disappointed. They didn't seem to have a record of our booking, despite it being confirmed via email and the menu was very limited. The starters were nice but it got progressively worse. Our roasts were cold and/ or not properly cooked. Our sides and drinks didn't come out until after our mains were finished. Virtually every other table around us complained about the service or the food, the most worrying being uncooked roast chicken. The waiter was very apologetic, but will deffos not be going back. Can't see this place lasting long unless they sort themselves out.

For place which is called 'catch' there was no fish/seafood on the menu! Service was appalling. Some food has not arrived. They had no draft beer so we ordered a bottled beer but could not get a second one as they have run out apparently. They didn't have some food on the menu which they only told us about after we've ordered and they were unable to work out our bill. Please avoid.

Booked a table in Catch and Grill online only to be told on arrival the air con wasn’t working so we should go into the sister restaurant next door. Items didn’t arrive but were still charged on the bill, after querying it the staff couldn’t use the till and the service was shocking, no training for the staff and very badly run restaurant. Avoid like the plague!

Great food, lovely staff,fantastic atmosphere

Went on a particularly tough day in the kitchen, most of the menus was unavailable. The wait staff was kind enough to prompt us before sitting down that the food wood take a while. While the food that was available took long to come most of it was really amazing to both taste and see. The biggest let down was the small cold portion of truffle fries. The care and consideration expressed by servers made the experience a positive one overall, and I'm excited to go back on a day where everything is in working order.

Myself and 6 friends (group of 7) visited Third avenue for our annual Christmas meal, the table was booked over a month in advance with a follow up confirmation sent a couple of days before. We arrived to the restaurant at 19:30 where we were seated at the rear of the restaurant, it took staff 30 minutes just to take our drinks order, we were then given 3 different menus which we pressumed we could choose off of, after a further 20 minutes only half the group received their drinks so we had to go to the bar and ask for the rest of them and to order food. Upon ordering food we were told we couldn't order off some of the menus and they had been given to us in error, however there wasn't enough of the actual menus because the printer didn't work. At approximately 20:00hrs loud booming music began playing from a club underneath the restaurant which we wasn't made aware of when booking which made a great atmosphere for a restaurant. Food took approximately 40 minutes to be served and we had dishs that didn't arrive and some wrong dishs turn up, we also had to ask for cutlery as not enough was on the table even though we booked in advance. After dinner we ordered more drinks which again took 30 minutes to arrive and we had to ask again for them, when they did arrive the wrong drinks turned up, I ordered a flat white coffee and had to go to the bar after 30 minutes of waiting to ask for it only to find it sat on the bar, when I requested a fresh one I was told by a female bar staff that it wasn't cold and she stuck her finger in the coffee to test it and then said " no it's not cold" expecting me to take it, I asked for a fresh one and received a very rude look, the coffee then tool a further 15 minutes to arrive. Whilst still eating desserts we were brought over the bill and a card machine, upon checking the bill we had items added to it that we didn't ask for so. Throughout the meal the male waiter continuously played with a light switch close to our table dimmg and brightening the lights for no need. Another group of 4 females were put on a table next to pur who continously screamed and swore and were not told to quieten down even though we were eating. After paying the bill a male waiter came up to our table and apologised for the terrible service and said he was short staffed ( we had 6 different servers throughout the meal for a medium size restaurant) the rest of the restaurant was fairly empty and it was not busy at all so they wernt visibly rushed, we were offered a tequila rose shot as compensation even though half of us wernt drinking. Overall the food was lovely, can't fault the food at all and the chef is great, the rest of the staff however have no clue what is going on or how to work in a restaurant, they were so unprofessional, the restaurant is a joke and not what you expect for the price of their food and drinks. The bar/restaurant is a weird vibe with a club underneath which can be heard whilst you eat and the manager clearly has no idea what's going on.

The food was great. I enjoyed the monkfish and flatbread well. And my partner enjoyed the Seabass. The whole atmosphere of the evening was great. Would defo recommend!!

As a regular in the Third Avenue, I have got to say when they open the catch and grill and seeing the menu it was amazing, the food was exceptional and always has been. They have a great tequila selection, especially the dirty tequila! Would highly recommend as the service and bar staff are so friendly too.

Came to dinner on a Saturday night with my partner and honestly couldn’t get enough of this place! Loved the atmosphere, the music, the food was FANTASTIC!

I came here for dinner with my family for my daughters birthday last weekend. the servers were lovely and friendly. the food was spectacular. I had the monkfish and my husband had the gambas as our mains and they were both cooked and seasoned to perfection. will definitely be coming again and cannot recommend enough!

This was such a disappointment - I invited friends from out of town to a birthday meal and nothing went to plan- slow service, food really not great - not up to the description on the menu and not up to the price. Won’t go back.

Dined here back in April and STILL waiting for a refund... It was my first time trying C&G and expectations were high. The pictures online presented what appeared to be a great first date spot and I was excited to try out the menu. On arrival, admittedly 7 minutes late due to traffic, I was told that the venue had no idea about my booking. It later transpired that the table we were initially booked onto had been given away - to whom I do not know as the venue was practically empty and remained this way all evening. We were seated in between a birthday party who spent the most part of their evening walking round eating and shouting. Due to the poor service and food they received, said party left the venue explicitly without paying. This was a conversation we heard in much detail. We were told much of the menu was off on the evening - it eventually became a fish restaurant with little option of sea food dishes to choose from. No squid or cod etc, all staples of the menu. Had we not already had drinks on the table, and it being a first date, I too would have left. I wish we had... The food was atrocious - a whole plaice drenched in a salty milky sauce was sent back as was an ice cold plate of seabass. We expressed our opinions on this when doing so but nothing was done about it. The only redeeming factor from the food was the homemade black pudding which I must admit was lovely. Sadly this didn't come close to making up for such a poor dinner. If the food and ambience was bad, the service was even worse and this appears to have been a recurring them post-evening in an attempt to claim a refund. On the night we were continually rushed when eating and drinking to the point I informed the waiter serving us that I would tell him when the plates were ready to send back. After the night I debated whether I should complain and ultimately felt I needed to. After a week the General Manager, Alice, responded to my email saying we could have 50% off our next meal with C&G. She also detailed a number of reasons why the evening was so poor and to be honest it seems as though things have been like this for a while. I responded with several emails chasing my refund over the course of several weeks. I also called but was frequently met with rude and unhelpful staff who kept trying to get me off the phone. FINALLY I spoke with Alice via the phone and she agreed to refund me for the evening. I was told she would call me back that evening and process the refund. There was no call... I then called 48 hours later to ask if all was okay - I was then told that the refund was not happening due to the owner saying no. No call to confirm this, again me chasing. I would avoid this place like the plague. The lure of its fancy decor and seemingly extensive menu was tainted by a myriad of issues, most of which seem to be common. Having read recent reviews, it seems C&G is a place firmly on the decline. I have never experienced service or food like it in other seafood restaurants in Brighton & Hove and I would strongly recommend trying R&F, English's or Salt Room. £140 down the drain!

How horrendous. Went there with high hopes for a birthday meal on Saturday 1st July. The food as per the menu did not match the food received - by a long way. We weren’t told of any problems until we asked questions after the food had arrived!!! It was only at that point we were told the restaurant had problems with suppliers and didn’t have all the food as per the menu! In one case the crab rosti was replaced with a frozen triangle shaped hash brown. Terrible. How are you able to do that ?! If there are supply chain issues raise it at the start so you make your decision based on the available menu. However to find that every single items (including the wine) is different to what ordered is fairly poor show. I would not return here and certainly would not recommend anyone else visits. Very disappointing - what a poor poor experience.

A truly terrible experience. Instead of a crab rosti my friend got a frozen hash brown. Our starters came with half the elements missing and my medium rare steak came well done. The service was slow, complaints were dealt with badly. And no one really cared that we were served so poorly. Avoid at all costs.

Okay, so I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and it’s hit and miss that’s all I can say. Sometimes it’s good but when it’s bad it’s diabolical. My last visit I always have the same thing monkfish skewers.jeez they were dry..bits of charred pitta bread ripped up..dry fish..no sauce and a load of pomegranate seeds on top! ( should be roti not pitta ) Dry and desperate ..appalling . My friend hates to complain. But she can’t cook so is easily pleased and recites the same old mantra “ooh it’s so nice” So depending on the chef is dependent on how the dish is served up.. WRONG. There has to be consistency or else how can you offer the same dish dressed in very different ways? It’s imbecilic. Now let’s get onto the service. My friend who is rich ordered a bottle of champagne the waiter was chatty.. seen him before. But I could not believe this he actually asked us if we wanted champagne glasses? Obviously we were ordering champagne? Imagine that kind of thing happening in London? It just wouldn’t. Then I felt so passionately about the lacklustre experience that I had that I actually called the restaurant and I was told that if I left my email the manager would get back to me. Of course he didn’t get back to me. Lazy lazy, lazy ..THATS what screams out at me. Like so many of the restaurants in Brighton & Hove..all fur coat and no k……s! Amateurish and rubbish

The food is excellent, the waiter forgot one starter, and we had to ask for napkins, Price was quite high, and the service charge is a bit much, but I would return.

Lovely restaurant, really friendly chilled out staff. Loved the Seabass, fries and squid, but the prawn dish and scallops were really quite over cooked, so for that reason would probably not revisit for the price. But, it’s a new place, so maybe with some time they’ll settle in and get better. Thanks for the food and hopefully this isn’t too harsh for a review.

The staff were very friendly and professional. Overall the experience was very pleasant. There were a number of things lacking such as items not being on the menu. It wasn't particularly busy so it did feel like standards had dropped a little due the fact it wasn't busy. The prices don't really reflect the venue. At the prices given, I'd say that 3 stars are fair. I've worked a lot in hospitality it's a very difficult business perhaps we came on an off day. Overall we enjoyed the experience ☺️

Stay away. First 2 wines ordered unavailable, entree served with no wine, staff inexperienced (but pleasant), food SO ordinary, no specials, blocked toilet, filthy hand drier, fire alarm due to flood. Otherwise fine. All true.

We went on a Wednesday night. we were the only people in here the whole time, which is fine but made the atmosphere a bit dead. It was good for drinks and my wife’s Tandoori Monkfish was okay. (Hence the 2 stars). My Plaice wasn’t cooked through. Looked like it was boiled, rather than grilled? So one side was cooked, the other side wasn’t. When the waitress came over to ask, I was eating the side that was so didn’t notice. Anyway, I ate it and then stopped as it was raw, uncooked fish. I flipped it and then stopped. A part of me thought they see that and notice. Anyway, got home and the next day had a really bad stomach which resulted in the obvious D word! It was all out within the day. But, to be paying £120+ bill and have average-undercooked food is not worth it. Would I go back? Yes, but for drinks and bar nibbles at “Third Avenue” who are the same but the bar part. I wouldn’t go back for food that is expensive and clearly not being cooked by anyone who understands how to cook.
