This was my first time trying happy dough lucky pizza and it definitely won’t be my last. The pizza was so fresh and filling and had by far the best vegan cheese on a pizza I’ve tried in Nottingham. If you are a vegan you must make sure you come here as the pizza is incredible. The cheese is creamy and lacks the ‘stick to the top of your mouth’ texture that many other vegan pizzas have. It’s also great to see more exciting vegan toppings than just the normal margarita/vegetables. Can’t wait to try more soon! The team is also incredibly cheerful and welcoming!

Definitivamente no volveré aquí.

We had a brilliant evening for my daughters 3rd birthday. I contacted happy dough lucky on the friday after another restaurant wasnt able to accommodate our request, and they were able to help with our party of 13 for the next day.We arrived an hour early as our event we were attending finished early, happy dough lucky were great allowing us to have drinks and sit with our children in the rustic but modern warehouse type feel bar, the music was however a little loud for that time of day (6pm) but they were really great and turned it down when we asked politely. Now on to the amazing food, I actually think that this was the best pizza, doughballs and meatballs I've ever had, this was also echoed throughout the party, even my fussy 6 year old daughter ate every crumb... I mean who would have thought peas and pesto on a pizza base would be so amazing to taste!!!! Thank you again, we will definitely be back on our next trip to Nottingham. We wish you well and every success during this hard time the world is currently facing.

We waited over an hour for our food to be made. If we had been told at the start that the oven wasn't ready and there'd be a wait, we would have gone elsewhere. There was absolutely no haste in making the food, and the chef was quite happy chatting away to people whilst our pizzas laid bare on the counter. There was a photoshoot going on for some reason at the same time and place, clearly their priorities are there.Pizza for £12 wasn't bad, but it's similar to Franco Manca or other decent pizza places. Nothing amazing and certainly not worth the 1+ wait.Would not recommend.

After seeing the reviews I booked this restaurant for our family before heading to a show at the Motorpoint arena.Arrived to find they had no knowledge of our booking despite having it confirmed. This resulted in a 4 year old having sit on a bar stool for the entire meal, which is not ideal!! There was only two staff around, the chef and one person trying to serve at the bar and serve food, which resulted in s delay for everything despite both trying to do what they can. After a 45 minute wait the first pizza arrived but no sign of the rest of the food we ordered. Another 20 minutes and a gentle reminder we received the rest of our food. This is an absolute pet hate of mine and we were sharing the pizzas and side orders so meant we ate it in stages! We left 1.5 hours to eat, but by the time the food had arrived we had a grand total of ten minutes to eat to get to the show on time. For 3 pizzas, 5 side orders & 5 soft drinks was over £80. Happy to pay for good quality food but the side orders were over priced. The food was lovely and we did enjoy it but the service was so bad and delay just spoilt the whole meal. Will not be returning!

I chased the order up as we had a show to go to and they said it won’t be long the pizza only takes 4 min to cook. Why did we wait over an hour then when it wasn’t busy! when they did arrive there was very little cheese on them and the underside of the pizza’s were burnt. The food is very over priced for what you actually get with very poor service. Won’t be visiting again!

Excellent reviews on trip advisor so thought would try it out. For £12 pizza was expecting food as good as Oscar and Rosie’s or Franco manca in London. Pizza was tasteless, no where near as good as similar competitors and totally overpriced. After asking my friends many said they had visited off the back of trip advisor reviews but experienced the same thing. Was so disappointed and sadly £40 out of pocket after 2 pizzas 2 cokes and a hallumi fries - a bit of a joke!

We showed up on a Saturday afternoon after hearing great reviews. When we entered the waiter informed us it would be at least a 30 min wait for food, we sat down and he proceeded to take everyone else’s order which is understable as we were the last in. He then didn’t acknowledge us after trying to make eye contact and then started cooking everyone else’s food without even getting us a drink. Bit disappointing. All he had to do was crack a smile and get us a drink and we would have been happy to wait.

Out with my family and wanted to eat lunch somewhere which was new to us. Came across 'Happy Dough Lucky' down one of the smaller roads between Broadway and the Arena. It is in the Lacemarket building and so I was slightly unsure on the set up at first, but turns out it was a 'pop-up' restaurant which has kept going due to its popularity. It was a Saturday mid-day and it was quiet as they had just opened for lunchtime. Friendly welcome and good service. Nice to go somewhere with their own selection of pizzas and drinks, and appreciated the pizzas being explained and level of 'spiciness'. Waited for the pizza to be made from scratch. They tasted good and had good drinks. Certainly would go again if in that area. Can imagine it'll be busy in the evening. One to watch.

My first experience at Happy Dough Lucky set a new standard for pizza and dough based products. Upon entry I was warmly greeted and escorted to my table and where the menu was both demonstrated as well as broken down into how the restaurant operates only using the freshest ingredients.Spoilt for choice I asked the gentleman what he would recommend, not only did he explain the contents of each dish but how its made making it easy for me to choose. I picked a starter called 'Aracini Balls' which have now taken place as my all time favourite starter! Following that the pizza for the main was an experience of its own with the dough consisting of several different textures; thin in the centre where the toppings were based, expanding out to a thick crispy crust, with a gooey centre! To finish off I chose the chocolate doughnut which like the pizza the texture was perfect with opening up to a melted gooey chocolate filling with a side of ice cream. All things considered with 3 dough based products each were incredibly light and did not even remotely feel 'fattening'. The service was second to none and after our meal I continued to reside within the restaurant to enjoy a drink and chat to the owner about the history of the restaurant which was incredibly engaging. I could not recommend this place any more! its really refreshing to have a venue with a distinctive product. I will be returning soon.

We brought my partners 10 year old here for a special treat. Whilst I appreciate the fact the base of the pizza is really authentic and the restaurant is run by young hip people (It’s a pop-up Instagram and Facebook kind of place)and the service is friendly and attentive....The place is just too expensive. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening, very horrible weather, and we were told we were very lucky to get a table on a Saturday without booking, now whether or not the weather (!) had thrown them, and the lack of people meant they were having a break I’m not sure... but it really wasn’t great. We ordered 3 pizzas with chips and dough balls. The chips arrived way before everything else, then the dough balls, followed by the pizzas shortly afterwards. The bases were light, delicious and authentic. Very good. The toppings however were lacklustre and minimal and I’m sure mine didn’t have all of the toppings that the menu listed.3 pizzas, 1 chips, 1 dough balls, 3 soft drinks were £50. This is not a huge bill, but it really really did not seem worth it. So wanted to love it, but such a shame.I left feeling annoyed at the bill, as if I had just funded the next half year in Italy for the hipsters.

Happy Dough Lucky is a pop-pup pizza parlour situated in the Lacehouse opposite Annie’s Burger Shack in the Lace Market area of Nottingham. We arrived at about 12:30 on a Saturday and were the first customers closely followed by a couple of women and then later a couple of men. Considering how busy the city was that day (very, despite the cold weather) and how busy Annie’s was it was a disappointing turn out, but it’s no reflection on the food which was superior to my only real comparison – Peters pizza in Loughborough. The decor was typical Nottingham trendy to appeal to millennials and get them thinking about how cool it would be to travel around Italy eating local dishes. They had industrial styled toilets with rusty corrugated iron on the wall and a sink that conjured up images of a Victorian work house (I’m not sure why it just felt rather oppressive). The restaurant was very warm inside and smelt slightly of chip fat until our garlic dough balls started cooking and then we got the nice smell of fresh dough cooking. Rather in conflict with the Italian/travel themed decor was the music which was a mix of Motown, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and various old funk soul tracks. But we weren’t there for the music anyway. As Meghan Trainor might say, you know it’s all about the pizza base and at Happy Dough Lucky they are excellent – crispy on the edges and chewy and flavoursome toward the centre like a classic Neapolitan pizza should be. I am assuming they use the Caputo branded soft wheat flour for their dough since there were bags stacked near the kitchen area.I ordered the Lacehouse lager which was a nice light lager that went down smoothly during the meal. Siggy was driving so she stuck to Diet Coke especially when she tried to order a coffee and the quietly spoken chap serving us (and making the drinks, the food and working out the bill – a real ‘write the them tune, sing the the theme tune’ one man band) apologised that they didn’t have any milk. Or other staff apparently. We forgave him as the fresh smell of basil wafted through the air con and our dough balls arrived. These were covered in hot buttery goodness and very nice to eat.I was able to watch the chap make up our fresh pizza and the cooking time (in a standard industrial looking pizza oven rather than a wood burning oven – it’s a pop-up remember) was about ten minutes max. The tomato sauce on the base had a nice basil and deep tomato flavour and the spicy but sweet chilli jam complimented it well.If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll probably have already figured out what I ordered as dessert as I enjoyed my second pint of lager – it really was slipping down nicely despite my second pint tasting more hoppy than the first (my taste buds had woken up by then I guess). The tiramisu pot was an original twist on the classic tiramisu – all the constituent parts deconstructed leaving the finger biscuits half soft with coffee flavour and half crunchy. It was nice, but serving it in hipster jam jar frustrated rather than augmented the eating experience. All in all, I’m very glad we decided to give Happy Dough Lucky a go rather than opting for the path of least resistance (i.e. Annie’s). The pizza is very authentic and blessed with a fairly decent amount of topping, but I imagine Pizza Express regulars might be disappointed by the pop-up’s limited menu and non-chain alternative ambience.

Booked earlier in the week (book as it's not a large restaurant) popped into Nottm for shopping then finished off with a bite to eat at HDL Can't recommend the food enough.Chips soft centre with a crispy outside.Dough balls seemed huge.Pizzas..I had the vegetarian (I'm not a veggie though). I love goats cheese and caramelized onion.. with the apple purée was the deal clenched for me.... Highly recommend (it's pizza No.10)I shared 50/50 with my wife who had the No.8 pizza which was ham and spicy sausage paste!!All had delicious mozzarella on them.take note... Nothing on the pizza was greasy like some cheaper pizzas you can get!!I love the had made pizza bases that are allowed to 'stand' for 48hrs.Ended with the tiramisu which we shared .. two spoons ;)On the whole... a really great night . Deffo go again. It's a relaxing no frills bar/restaurant... great staff welcoming you and on hand to assist with menu choices. What's nice is it's not a huge menu so you're not overwhelmed.

We had date night here after reading the amazing reviews on here. Pizza dough is out of this world - like naan bread texture and really good quality toppings. The decor is also really cool and quirky and takes influence from the owner’s travels. The garlic dough balls are also out of this world, and the chilli chips were beaut but a little too hot for us :) We were the only couple in on a Tues eve as they had a party of 30 in doing a food crawl. We will be back!!!

Visited with the kids, really frustrating experience. They had no pizza available, this in itself is fine however it took a good five minutes to tell me this, when we entered they asked if we wanted pizza, fetched a highchair, gave us menus took our drinks orders then told us that food is unavailable. Apologetic enough but very frustrating none the less. Also they do not provide baby changing facilities.

After looking on trip advisor we decided to try here for a quick tea before the cinema due to its many excellent reviews. We were disappointed to say the least and can’t believe it’s rated so highly. We ordered a pizza to share with two sides; chicken strips and chips. The pizza was very average and the sides were very over priced. If the price point was cheaper we wouldn’t have been so disappointed. We felt the atmosphere itself is definitely more geared towards a night out. I could not recommend as there prices reflect a premium pizza/experience which it sadly wasn’t.

Decided to try out based on tripadvisor reviews. Nice atmosphere and friendly waiters (and owner?). We ordered the garlic butter balls mainly off the strength of reviews - they weren’t as garlicky as expected but perhaps our expectations were too high because of reviews... The courgette pizza and chicken pizza were both very good, with an authentic ‘wet’ or soggy centre the way we found pizza was in Naples. However the star of the show was certainly the ricotta and Nutella doughnut. Not a classical doughnut, I think this was made of pizza dough and stuffed with ricotta and Nutella served with soft serve ice cream (salted caramel, the night we went - I understand the flavour changes regularly). THIS. DESSERT. WAS. AWESOME!!!!!! The warm gooey doughnut was perfectly complemented by the ice cream. Bill came to £42 for 1 starter, 2 pizzas, 1 dessert and 1 pint - not exactly cheap but overall worth it. If returning I would probably stick to mains and that amazing doughnut

I visited on a Thursday evening, 7pm with two friends. It took approx 1 week of messaging and chasing up responses on Instagram dms to get a table booked, I tried to ring and the answer phone message asked me to use their WhatsApp to book. I decided to contact them through FB and to their credit, got a response very quickly to say my table was confirmed. If you don't want me to book through Instagram, don't try and do it - just tell me how else to.We arrived a couple of minutes after 7 due to traffic and had to wait about 5 mins for a table, despite it not being busy - they just didn't seem to have cleared any of the empty tables, but they have have had a rush just before we arrived, I don't know.We got seated and the host and waiter were both very nice, we had a good chat with the host over the course of the evening and everyone seemed very friendly. We ordered chilli fries, sweet potato fries, a Margherita, nduja sausage and a prosciutto & egg pizza. The fries came out first for some reason, we didn't order them as a starter but maybe that's just the protocol there. Can't comment on the chilli fries as I didn't try them but the sweet potato ones were crispy and sweet as they should be. The pizzas came out together and we shared them between the three of us. The crust was good, it tasted a little like popcorn, but that could have been the semolina. Good char on the base and the crust was thick, but the amount of cheese let it down - too thickly distributed so it created pools of oil that softened the base, making it floppy and difficult to eat. It also led to the dreaded situation where you take a bite and all the cheese comes off in one go, leaving you with a mouth full of mozzarella and a cheeseless pizza. The sauce let them down too, bland and thin in my opinion. The nduja was nice though, as was the egg which set nicely allowing us to share it between the slices. We also had dessert, a bowl of homemade Coco pops ice-cream each which came from a whippy machine. They didn't have enough for 3 bowls in one go though, so 15 minutes after watching my friends eat their, I got my bowl (admittedly they did provide the last of what was left in the machine to have whilst I waited). I liked the ice-cream, but it could have done with a few pops on top for crunch and got a little samey after a while. Overall I didn't dislike the food, I just wasn't enamoured with is, and as it's the 2nd best restaurant in notts on TripAdvisor, I was expecting much much more.We paid £69 for the three of us. 2x fries, 3x pizzas, 1 medium wine (£7.50!), 1 beer (£4.50) and three bowls of ice-cream (£4.50 each). Too much in my opinion, especially for what we got.

Would defiantly recommend if you are looking to have good pizza in town. Positive: pizzas are too filling (70kg medium built)Negatives: pizzas are too filling so I couldn’t have what looked and smelled like a great doughnut

I’ll be honest, we decided to go to Happy Dough Lucky because we love bad puns - but the chili fries were something else, and all of our individual dietary needs were catered for: we had a gluten-free pizza, a vegetarian pizza without cheese, one without mushrooms...
