Alex is an amazing quiz master - we thoroughly enjoy her quizzes every tuesday. The whole team are so welcoming. Our favourite pub in Notts!

We booked our wedding reception here in the Poets Corner function space. Such a beautiful, memorable evening, very chill and such a lovely atmosphere. Staff were so accommodating, patient and graceful - and even supplied a knife and plates for our wedding cake. Thank you all so much!

The food is terrific and the place has a very good atmosphere.

Great place for a drink. Came in on Friday night… it wasn’t too busy and wasn’t too quiet. Great mix of students and locals. Somewhere I would definitely come again for a mellow pint. Pool table as well for a bit of fun. Good vibes in here, I recommend.

Amazingly cozy place for coffee, food and drinking. Staff are really lovely and welcoming, especially Tanya, Alex and Nathan who are all fantastic 😊😊

Been here a few times sometimes for quiz night which is brilliant, lots of fun and a great atmosphere, also like to go here with my son and grandchildren for food which is absolutely delicious!!! Cannot fault the staff and surroundings, they always make you feel welcome! lovely little find that is to be enjoyed by all walks of life, would definitely recommend a visit

Went to this quiz the other night hosted by Alex and it was probably the best quiz night I have ever been to (which is a lot). She was so funny, and the quiz was actually very interesting. We also came in and ate the other day, and she was there doing the food which was again, outstanding. What can she not do??? Definitely will be back for the quiz every week and cannot wait to eat here again!!

Went to this pub on a quiz night and found it very pleasant, not often you go into a pub the looks very hygienic and with polite staff behind the bar also makes the experience a lot nicer, we had some pizza and wings and they were extremely well flavoured and an absolute delight to eat, will definitely be returning.

The playwright quiz on a Tuesday was recommended to us and it was one of the best pub quizzes in notts! Alex is hilarious and a great host, the quiz is diverse and well worth the brain power when the prizes are great. Since we loved alex so much we returned to try some of her food which was delishhhh. We love you alex!

I highly recommend The Playwright for lunch. They have a new “pizza sando” (a type of pizza sandwich) lunch deal which comes with a drink. My favourite is the Korean-inspired pizza sando with jackfruit and kimchi. The food is delicious and the coffee absolutely hits the spot. Alex at the pizza oven and James at the bar are super friendly and welcoming. I’m sure to visit many more times.

BEST PUB IN NOTTS Such a class pub, lovely staff, cracking food and such a nice atmosphere. Highlight is the quiz every Tuesday with Alex as Quiz master - £75 bar tab if you win!!! Lovely staff, lovely food, proper reasonable drinks deals, especially with all the deals they have on. Food is fab and caters for all dietary requirements - if you’re a vegan try the pizzas 👌🏼 Great student deals too - been coming since I’ve been at Uni and been coming every week since. Can’t recommend this pub enough xxxx

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, we come every Tuesday and often come many other days because we absolutely love it here!! Student, professional, anyone - you will absolutely love it here! The staff are lovely, the food is delicious, the quiz on a Tuesday with ALEX is legendary! I could not recommend it enough!!!

I feel incredibly sorry for the hard working staff at this place. They live in fear of head office who do not give them the support they need in the pub. A real shame as this venue was once a shining star for this area. Respect your staff so they can better serve your customers otherwise the customers won’t come back and the staff will leave

Worst thing about this pub is the service, staff are incredibly rude and clearly weren’t taught any manners. I’ve gone to this pub plenty of times and haven't once seen a hint of a smile on their faces. don’t want to give them the satisfaction of ordering anything. HOWEVER, the prices are decent. (Not as good as other local places)

Great pub and very helpful staff with a special mention going to Alex who not only cooked us tasty pizzas but sorted out a fiddly room booking too. We'll definitely be back.

Popped in for a pint before attending a gig at the Level. Good atmosphere, good selection of beers....on the down side, the gents toilets smelt absolutely terrible!!!

There was beer but it was decidedly average. Brewpoint's offerings are quite dull.

I have been visiting the playwright pub on and off for the past few years. I just wanted to say I'm very happy with the service and the warm welcome. I will now definitely be visiting more often. A special thanks to James and Megan for the impeccable service and making me feel at home.

I came for the graduations and we all went to the playwright! What an amazing experience friendly staff with great knowledge and swift service! I would like to point out James and Thomas who I spoke too during my visit, they did seem to have a very busy shift however still made me and our guests feel welcome and engaged. Lovevely puvb and atmosphere! Much love from Germany!

OK inner-city pub if you're desperate or interested in the "birthplace" of a soccer team. As there were no real beers on when I went & the menu was geared at poor students, I'd suggest it's one better left to the target clientele.

Good pub with great pizzas. Be careful if you are booking for 12 or more people, as the deposit they ask for is not returned afterwards.

Friendly staff & lots of choice on tap.

If you want to buy beer, don't expect them to be welcoming. You will be treated like a criminal.

Visited Playwright last Saturday with my partner . Good selection of beers on tap got served quickly which was impressive given how busy the place was . We have ordered the special pizza , top quality and definitely great value compared to other establishments near by. Would definitely recommend!! Keep up the good work guys

This pub we stumbled upon. 😘pizza 2 for 1 on Monday and they were absolutely gorgeous, we took the rest back to the hotel with us ( pizza box provided) lively atmosphere, the staff were mega friendly , fully inclusive .we ll definitely be back .👋

The Playwight hosted our 60th Birthday party for my partner. The back rooms were lovely, they let us bring our music. The food we ordered was great and they brought it to us at the time we asked for, such a lot of food for them to produce for us. They took care to let us know which was the food for the people with food sensitivities. Service was great. We and our guests had a great time. Thank you so much for hosting us.

Great management very friendly made me fell welcome. Perfect place for family's or groups nice layout, the food is great especially the pizza's excellent customer service well recommended here

Really nice pub. Never too loud and rarely too crowded. The decor is cosy and warm, menu is varied and all dishes are very tasty including vegan options, and service is also excellent.

Skip the massaman curry. it’s just bits of veg with rice and barely any peanut-based sauce; what there was, i certainly wouldn’t call a sauce. A waste of money. Stick to the pizza menu, though even the one my friend had looked poor compared to how they used to be.

Had a good few pints and watched sky sports. Really good food and dog friendly. Nice way to spend a Sunday

Searching for a place for a family meal on Sunday, I found a review: probably the best pizza in Nottingham, so I chose this pub. I don't know if there is any better pizza in Nottingham, but the one we had here was excellent. My 5-year-old son finished his completely! Very friendly service and a pleasant, spacious, atmospheric interior where you can relax.

Love love love it here. Me and my partner always pop in for a drink and sometimes a bite to eat. Staff are always a pleasure to see and food and drinks are lovely. The staff have such a passion for this place and you will see why when you go. I put 20 to 30 pound per person that’s if you having food and a nice cocktail etc. but you could come in here for one or two it would be cheaper as well. Highly recommend!

Bit of a sports bar. Service pretty sad (staff seemed bothered to get customers), pizzas were decent but they didn't get the whole order right - amateurs. Beer selection poor. Won't go again.

Some of the best pizza I've had. The new chef clearly knows his za! Will definitely be back here.

It sells a lot of alcoholic beverages that may make you tipsy. Blessed are the cheesemakers

Come here for a great pub quiz on Tuesdays! Mostly general knowledge with a round of a random topic, questions aren’t too easy nor too hard, great vibe and well priced drinks! Alex does a great job with the quiz

We hired one of the back rooms at the Playwright on the 22nd February for a small informal networking event. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, range of drinks/food and hospitality provided. The Playwright will be our go to location for future events - We highly recommend it.

Busy pub with the university crowd. A good selection of beers and a hand position for the theatre and city.

Called in because of the pizza oven. Ordered a margarita, tater tots and chicken wings with BBQ sauce. All of it was absolutely delicious and good value for money at £24. Fed two of us quite well for lunch. Was quiet when we walked in but soon got busy. Recommend if you’re up that end of town.

A lovely atmosphere and decent drinks. Food portions are tiny for how much they charge... The nice atmosphere makes up for it though.

First time in Nottingham, and I visited this amazing pub. I should say it should be in everyone's bucket list if you ever visit Nottingham. Friendly staff and swift service. They have a beer, Gatden, and a private area for special occasions.

Only had a quick drink here but lovely staff and booths to drink them in. Can imagine in the evening it gets busy and very fun

Best Pub in town! Has the best quiz I've ever been to thanks to Alex the quizmaster and also came in today to my suprise to find she also does the food! The pizza was lovely Alex is a top chef! Great service all around, Tanya was really nice and gave me some great suggestions for drinks. Will be back!

Visited here for the first time this weekend and will defiantly not be back. For starters there was no one in the pub which is never a good start on New Year’s Eve. We had booked a table for food to be told when we arrived one of the chefs had called in sick and we had only 10 mins to order, we were not informed of this prior to arriving. Then when we did order we were told no to most items that would have taken any time and could only order a simple pizza off the menu, no startersbrisket etc. The service was terrible with all our meals coming out at different times over the space of 45 minutes. The majority of the staff were rude and had no manners. Edit: Thomas reached out to us an apologised for the service we received he was very understanding and as compensation was able to provide a round of drinks and a complimentary meal, the chef and a waiter was not present on the night came over and made us feel welcome and apologised. We understood that businesses don’t always get it right but a lot can be said for companies that make things right. It has given us a full u turn on our view of the restaurant and Thomas has gained two customers.

My favourite pub in Notts, lovely atmosphere, excellent food, and the staff are incredible! Big shout out to Alex the best quiz master and head chef in the midlands and Tanya and Lucy on the bar as well! We come every week on Tuesday just for the quiz which is so thoughtfully put together and literally free to take part in, always great prizes on offer and guaranteed to be a good time.

Please ignore the food as we didn’t eat but we attended the pub quiz and my word it was painful. The quizmaster was shouty, .read the questions far too fast and this quiz went on for an ETERNITY- don’t get me wrong, I love a good quiz and it’s the reason why we went but over 120 Qs and the picture round images were blurred making it ridiculous to even make out anything. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was a little echoey. I loved that there were donations for food banks. Just avoid the quiz - truly an awful experience

I come here a few times so I decided I will bring my date here, we had a great time, pub decorations are really cool and the staff are the nicest of anywhere I’ve been, very helpful, I was served my drinks by Tanya and she was so lovely, had a great chat, our food was delicious too we had pizza and chicken wings and the chef Alex even came out herself to ask if we enjoyed it, which we did a lot! I think the best pizza in Notts, hopefully I will get a second date and bring her back here

What a gem! There are a few decent pubs in the centre but this is my new favourite! Staff very friendly and helpful, especially for new year's eve.... Good selection of gluten-free options for food too. Will be back!

Very nice drinks and friendly staff

The pub had a laid-back vibe, but the experience was tarnished by dirty tables, prompting us to clean them ourselves. The staff seemed preoccupied chatting, leaving us to serve our own plates. Despite these drawbacks, the redeeming factor was the delicious pizza, which ultimately salvaged the evening.

Very chilled and relaxing boozer , good pizza, really nice cloudy IPA and good service. Nice to see the history of this pub and Nottingham Forest FC . Will visit again when in the City. We all enjoyed our time here .

It would be hard to find a pub / bar in Nottingham with a worse choice of beer!! No bitter, no stout, no Guinness.. one cider, some IPA’s and crafty stuff. Not surprisingly due to location, very studenty. I’ve not eaten here so 4 stars for food & atmosphere.. just, pleeeease, get some proper beer in!!

Surprised you don't have any bitter. It's 6.20 6th December. Person behind bar told me 2 bitters had run out and the 2 to replace them hadn't been set up. Not good for a pub!

An end of week drinks with work...linked to a relaxed Christmas party. Great space for a group to chat and a varied enough menu for us all. Enjoyed the beer and staff were very accommodating. Had the 3 for £15 tapas deal...great Dolcelatte salad, good replacement of kimchi cakes to retro tater-tots. Less keen on the tacos...a bit chewy but taste was fine. Fitted well what we needed for good chats and Christmas fun.

Gone here a few times and it's always a friendly vibe regardless of age. Got served by someone called Alex and they were so friendly. I will definitely be coming back here in the near future. (Should definitely give Alex a pay rise!)

lovely atmosphere and a great quiz night, however, being charged more than £4 for a large glass of lemonade is a bit ridiculous ngl. also, i initially asked for another drink but the staff member didn’t even realise that they offer it on the menu so i had to go for the alternative

We hosted a private charity event here and they were so accommodating and helpful. Josh and the team (Tanya and Lucy) were so lovely and the space felt so warm with a fantastic atmosphere. It's great to have different areas to work with. Huge bonus with it being wheelchair accessible. Fantastic place to host our Louisey Rider Cup after party. I hope it's here again next year!

I attended a private event here this weekend and the venue was perfect for having these separate space for hanging out, conversations, seating areas, and dancing, it flowed really well. Also the staff were so great about accomodating our requests for items for the party and also serving drinks so fast. Thanks to Lucy and Tanya that went above and beyond to make our event such a fun time

Average pub really. Nicely decorated.

Ordered 3 of the bar bites, and whilst the mushroom tacos were ok, the salad leaves on both salads were simply inedible. They were clearly out of date and would have been dangerous to eat. Furthermore, the burger grill was out of operation, and apparently the chef burnt our pizza. Pretty awful all round.
