Wet, dirty fries. Not fried and the chicken tastes nothing. And the tables are very sticky. Nice interior and normal staff. Good reception but really not worth it!!

The BEST chips in London! Always welcomed with a smile and banter with Xenios! This is a great family business - highly recommended for traditional old school fish and chips. London has too many imitations but this place is the real deal!

When you walk in, you seat yourself. Spend your time deciding what you want from the menus at each place setting. After a little while, the owner will come from the kitchen and take your order. We were eating early, so only one other order was being prepared and it came hot from the fryer in 15-20 minutes. The fish was delicious - tender, creamy, and perfectly flaky. The tartar sauce was excellent. Do chips in the UK not come salted? Or maybe I'm used to the excessive North American salt level in fast food? The chips were still tasty. Service rates 4 stars just to set your expectations. The server is nice, friendly, and helpful, but not constantly attentive. He took our order, brought our food and then asked us to call him if we needed anything more.

A great discovery by a busy market area. Super fast service by a friendly family run establishment. You can get take away or sit inside in the restaurant. Super generous portions that keep your tummy happy and full for many hours. Not greasy, just genuine fish n' chips! Definitely recommended!

Another chippy, this time located East London near Liverpool Street so had to check it out. They were really nice to let me see the chips which were lovely and white but as I needed somewhere to sit I wasn't sure to get them that day or not. Left the place for a few seconds and decided to go back because their chips look good as they were fresh. Unfortunately, they gave me chips from the other drawer which were not the same batch so I was disappointed. It's not my first time eating fish and chips so chips don't change colour or shrivel up in a mere few seconds. Anyway, I was eating nearby so popped in again as I needed more salt and vinegar, to my anger I saw them dish out the fresh batch from the other drawer but they were nice to give the fresh ones which were indeed good. The fish itself was lovely and came with skin which gives it the flavour.

We were on the hunt for some great fish and chips that were decently priced. Most are £16-£20 a plate. We found this place on our Apple map and then googled the menu. The prices ranged from £10-12. We were sold. The walk there seemed a little strange. It definitely was in our minds but still as we walked around there is a lot of graffiti and trash and just not the nicest part of town. No offense. However!!!! It was the best place we ate the whole holiday. Not only was the price in our budget but the fish was PERFECT! The chips were amazing and the of course the mushy peas were the best part for my daughter and I. Even better, our server (I regret not getting his name) but he was such a delight. He was very kind and told stories about Jack the Ripper. I wish we found Happy Days when we first arrived. Our first stop upon arriving to London was Poppie’s and while the food was good. It was very expensive and the staff was ok. Happy Days is the spot to go. Do not let the surrounding area keep you from going. The area is very safe and people there are wonderful. Do not judge a book by its cover for sure. I wish I didn’t. I can’t wait for our next trip to London. Happy Days will be our go to spot for Fish and Chips. Cheers from Florida! Fabulous fish and chips. A must try when in London. Family business that has been around a long time. Xenios is a great host/cook. Don't forget to ask him nicely to tell you the connection between the restaurant and Jack the Ripper. Very interesting. Lots of interesting pictures on the wall. Highly recommended.

I wanted to try fish and chips as a tourist, and I was expecting the same mediocre version I find in the US. The fish at this shop is incredible! It's meaty and flavorful. So good, highly recommend!

Great fish n chips!!! I had plaice and my partner had steam sea bass, both fantastic

On a sign in the window it said chicken wrap £6 or with chips £7 so I had it with chips. I ordered Diet Coke expecting a can, It was in a glass from a machine £3 should have checked before. So when I went to pay the waitress said £14, I should have questioned her but Just tapped my card. Just checked there website, I have seen what has happened charged £7 for wrap, £4 for chips and £3 for drink, hence this review. Never will go there again hopefully this will stop people doing the same thing check before you order and don’t get overcharged and ripped off.

The staff here are so friendly. They were the friendliest I've been to the UK. I'm impressed!! And I ate the menu recommendation. There are almost no thorns and it is all lean meat!!! It’s soft and really delicious!!! This is a truly recommended local restaurant.

We had dinner at this place and happen to be the only table for the night. Our first fish & chips with mushy peas in London as this place. The servings was big. The server was very friendly and had a nice smile. The location of this restaurant happened to be at the Jack Ripper's walking tour area so you can see many groups of people crowding outside of the shop. It was interesting to know the shop was somehow involved too (I think).

We were here for dinner at short notice. It was already relatively empty but a few more people came after us. We received our food quite quickly. The selection is quite large. The three of us had an onion flower as a starter, it shouldn't be underestimated, it's pretty good. We then had 3 different fish and chips. Everything tasted very good, but for me personally the items were all a bit too greasy compared to similar restaurants. Like everywhere else in the area, Jack the Ripper dominates the decoration. The waiter was very accommodating and nice. Would come again, just probably order less ;-)

The fish and chips were freshly fried and well served although we opted for takeaway. The portion was huge although we opted for regular size. The roasted chicken with aromatic tomato rice was just nice and huge portion as well. The staff was friendly and very polite when servicing. Overall I did not regret to choose here.

Fish and Chips for £8 is an unbelievably good deal. Also, it was delicious. The guy working there was awesome as well. We ordered take-away and they cooked in on the spot and we left happy as we walked and ate our dinner. Can't go wrong with a to-go meal from here. I think it's a bit more if you sit down and eat as it comes with some sides and what not.

Found this spot on Google maps a few days ago and just knew I had to try it, I can comfortably say it was worth the wait. The cod had a rather unique batter and crust which set it apart for me and given its location, the prices are also very reasonable. I only wish I was here longer to try other things on the menu, but I'll definitely be recommending this to any London travellers I know!

Very delicious food and excellent service

A quiet and cozy place, the portions are good and at an affordable price. It is not usually very crowded so you can be comfortable.

Hands down the BEST fish and chips we had while in London! The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and helped us make our selections (halibut vs cod vs haddock). We had a lovely conversation about the difference between pickles in US vs the UK.. we took the lovely waitress' advice and were pleasantly surprised. You can't make a wrong choice here as everything is fresh and tasty! The portions were huge, the fish was fresh, the chips were crisp and delicious.

If you are looking for an honest place in London, I recommend this restaurant. The meal was fresh and delicious, and the portions were generous. The waiter and the owner were very friendly and welcoming, and they made us feel at home. It was a great experience and I would definitely go back!

I was looking forward to stopping here and Happy Days didn't disappoint. As others have said, the portions are large (I was hungry so it worked out well). The food was great and the service was outstanding!

Tourist here. I’d go back to London specially to visit this restaurant. My kids and mom loved it as well. Very nice owners.

The food was great. Portions were huge. My wife could not finish all her fries. We split a cod and a haddock. I want to thank the waitress from yesterday. We had a walking tour starting from picadilly circus. As tourists we had no idea how to get there quickly in time for tour. Thanks to her advice we made it in time to join the tour (barely). Thanks. 👍

Friendly atmosphere, fair prices, chill decor.

Great spot for fish and chips, very fresh and non expensive. Fantastic people working and great customer service. Not only was the fish fresh but so was the chicken, highly recommend for people wanting to try authentic fish and chips.

Fresh flaky fish. Good sized servings. Chips are not as good to our taste. Traditional chippie for the diehards. The street outside had street food vendors and all the young people go there so the chippie is not as popular anymore. Walls decorated with Jack the Ripper motif.

Fabulous chippy with great service. Had the special which is great value and the cod is so fresh and the batter really crispy and light. Big pile of good chips and mushy peas and a buttered roll. With a glass of wine it was a great last minute decision for lunch. Lovely service and I chatted for ages with the lady who served me who said they had been there for 40 years and judging from the busy lunch time crowd they’ll be there for lots longer. We had a nice talk about how the area had changed since I had worked at the local school in 1970, no more market stalls down Wentworth and definitely upmarket now. Will definitely go back if I’m in the area again.

Friendly service and delicious food. Large portion is quite big for one person, so i recommend to order one f&c with another starter, and it will be perfect for two person. The service charge is not included, but i am satisfied with the overall service so i just round up the amount for small amount of tips.

Best Fish & Chips in London, by far. It's family run for over 40 years and not a chain! It's in an area of London which is great for a walk on a day out around Spitafields and Brick Lane and even has some Jack the Ripper history to it, just ask the team. The food and service was great, fresh fish and great hidden items like the Onion Flower (best onion ring you'll ever have). Great for a quick bite or a group meal.

Having worked around here for ages, I was so happy to find this place and now have the rest of the team hooked as the pricing is so good and portions so geneous. Great selection for everyone and you have to try the onion flower! It's off the beaten track but only a minute's walk from the very busy Spitalfields area! Fish is super fresh and flakey and the chicken is the best I've had for those that don't want fish. It's a family-run place for over 40 years, and it shows they know what they're doing!

If you have not been here, you are missing a lot. Food is excellent. Fish has a great base and plenty of chips to go along with the meal. The smashed peas taste out of this world. I loved this place. Also make sure you ask Michael about the Jack the Ripper story. We were on a visit to London and heard about this restaurant. Being from Ohio I wish we had this restaurant in my backyard because I would be at their once a week. I had fish and chips about 4 times while I was in London, but this was the best!
