Went Boxing Day. Staff were great but frustrating that every time we put in an order you came back saying you had run out of that food offered on the menu…even down to cream! Disappointing experience during a peak time when you’d think you’d be fully stocked up over the festive period!

This was our annual Christmas Eve meal out, and the only time we get together as a family over the holiday. We pre-booked the 'Celebration Menu'. We enjoyed ourselves because we were together as a family. However. I had a few questions in advance, including re the kids pre-orders (I could not find a menu for them online). I left messages by phone, emailed and messaged via our booking portal but no one replied to me, so in the end I had to travel to HM on Christmas Eve morning to speak to someone in person. I was told then that the kids could order when we arrived later, from the normal menu. On arrival there were no crackers, hats, Christmassy napkins or anything 'celebratory' on the table - this has always been a nice touch at other places we have eaten on Christmas Eve in the past. We waited nearly 40 mins before going to find someone to ask if we could order drinks. I then asked if we could order the kids' food, we were told the adult starters were ready to be served, so the kids food would have to come out later. There were no starters available to the kids anyway. Most of the kids' main courses from the normal menu were sold out. They were not made to feel part of the Christmas dinner experience at all, as they have been elsewhere on previous years. The adult food we had pre-ordered was literally awful. In particular the Christmas turkey roast - the turkey was inedible (reminded me of processed school dinner turkey), two small and very dry potatoes, one shrivelled parsnip, two tiny shrivelled black carrots (looked like a hairpin on my plate), a very small portion of peas with cabbage, a small dried up yorkshire pudding. Watery gravy. No trimmings (stuffing, pigs in blankets etc) and no sauces (bread sauce, cranberry sauce etc). The presentation of all the food was awful, all just slapped on the plate or dumped in bowls. The main course portion sizes were smaller than the kids' meals. The hot food was all served cold. We all left hungry. No one wanted to ruin our family Christmas get together by complaining, or to cause problems for our young servers (who were all very sweet and doing their best), we all laughed and got on with it and paid our way at the end, and left our servers a nice Christmas tip. It was pretty gutting though, especially for me as the organiser. The food would have been an embarrassment on any day, let alone for a special Christmas meal. The only saving grace for this experience were the young kids serving us, who smiled and helped and did everything as well as they could (whilst rushed off their feet). So sad that this once-lovely place has gone so far down hill.

Visited Christmas Day to enjoy a Christmas dinner with my family. There was a lovely atmosphere. The staff where amazing, friendly, cheerful and very attentive. Unfortunately the food really wasn’t that great. The Yorkshire and potatoes where very over cooked, the carrots where hard and the gravy was very watery. When my pudding arrived the ice cream had already completely melted. With it being Christmas Day I didn’t want to say anything as was very grateful that we had the opportunity to dine out, but for the amount it cost I was disappointed.

Sept 2024 • solo I have multiple sclerosis and am blind, I was with my dog. A manager came up to me, told me I was INTOXICATED?? And told me several times I am intoxicated!!!!! When I said I wasn't This man kept repeating himself, and I will not be served. I was NOT drunk I am disabled and blind!!! I am going to raise this matter further. Absolutely disgusted with this place. Have been really upset for last 48 hours over the situation. I just walked straight out with my dog. And the manager was right up against my face, really close, like he was going to head butt me!!!! And the manager is called "REECE", confirmed by an area manager.

Just popped in (04/12/2024) for a couple of lemonades and a sandwich. Due to my debit card being cloned I’ve had to cancel mine. I don’t carry a credit card any longer. The establishment wouldn’t accept Amex and I repeatedly offered to bank transfer / PAYM as I have the money in my account just not a card. I am a delivery driver and clearly not a regular. I’m a working man who makes a habit of popping into places like this as passing trade. Not today; really disappointed in the attitude of this place and I certainly won’t have anything nice to say about Hove. Shame on you, I’ll live albeit hungry but I’ll live. You will always be not very welcoming to strangers / passing trade.

I’m not quite sure what’s been happening recently but this place USED to be lovely and is now shockingly bad. The last time I went there with 3 family members for some lunch and a few soft drinks. We asked if they had a gluten free meal and a very rude manager said “I don’t know, google if sandwiches have gluten in” and charged us far too much for our drinks. They proceeded to bring out food in drips and drabs to the rest of the people at the table, while I had to go and buy my own sandwich elsewhere!!! When I came back, there was a cat on the table which clearly had a flea problem and was annoying everyone at the bar area. When I finally got rid of the cat (which I was allergic to), a bar maid picked it up, and put it back onto the neighbouring table and started to introduce it back to the bar guests, before serving another person a drink!! We were disgusted and hungry!! Not going here again until there is another manager.

Hangleton Manor is a hidden gem in Brighton and Hove, offering a blend of rich history and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The building itself is stunning, with its Tudor architecture and preserved stone walls, giving an authentic sense of stepping back in time. The standout for us, though, was the exceptional service from our server, Terry. Terry was attentive without hovering, making great recommendations, and genuinely making us feel at home. Her friendly demeanor added a lot to the overall experience, making it memorable and enjoyable. If you’re in the area and appreciate good food, a historical setting, and fantastic service, Hangleton Manor is worth a visit.

Since moving to a house in a road a half mile or so away 7 years ago, we have visited several times. Today (Sat 2nd Nov 2024) was probably our favourite. We arrived approx 5:30, easy to park and were welcomed almost straight away. We sat at a table in the corner of the restaurant area which was clean and tidy. We were served pretty quickly. We had 3 courses. The range on offer on the menu was terrific. Everything we ate was delicious. The staff who waited on us were excellent in terms of politeness and attention in terms of ensuring what we ordered was what we were given. We were told that the menu has only been available in its current form for 3 weeks or so. It's a far cry from some we have seen before. The beer and wine we chose was excellent too. We also thought that the pricing throughout the menu was very competitive and the total we paid vindicative of our experience.

Gave it another try after a disappointing experience last time. Won't be rushing back to eat. Service initially good and food arrived very promptly. After finishing we sat there unattended for a good 20 minutes before getting up and paying at the till and taking childrens ice cream home. Even that took another 10 minutes. Food itself disappointing, childrens burgers dry, roast beef tough and roast potatoes rough to cut with the blunt small knives given and very dry in the middle. Plus no horseradish sauce, this happened last time so I wonder if they ever have any? Customers should be told this when they order not when the food is placed in front of them. I for one would have ordered something else. The pub cat was also seen on a vacated table licking sauce out of a bowl, not surprisingly it had been left uncleared as appears to be the norm. I hope they thoroughly wash the dishes as this has serious health and safety implications.

Terrible experience last weekend. Food took over 2 hours to come out, which when it finally did, the chips were freezing cold, potatoes and vegatables in the roasts were were half cooked and my partners salad completely forgotten. No appologies or explanations until after we raised a compliant. Icing on the cake was when they 'forgot' we had paid a £50 deposit despite being unable to book without paying this and didn't take it off the bill, whilst at the same time bringing out a seperate bill for the salad they never sent out. Wonder how many times they try the deposit trick to see if people forget. It should be a default action.

Well what can I say ! We arranged to go for lunch with my family Saturday 15th June to celebrate my husband's birthday and father's day 8 adults 5 children. We were shown to a large table out the back of the restaurant looks like were they put large groups. Almost immediately they wanted to take our food order . We ask for time only 5 mins we hadn't even sat down yet 🫣. We were not given children's menus when clearly had children age 5 to newborn. Once we had ordered I looked around 🫣 big mistake the place was obviously dirty all the panels on the walls had thick dirt/dust tables sticky and uncleaned properly chairs grubby all around the table legs base ect . Pot holding a bit of cutlery dirty clearly not cleaned for a prolonged period . My granddaughter needed the restroom and omgoodness it smelt like a stable. Painted toilet seats that have seen better days peeling and chipping and everything grubby. Food arrived in prolonged stages half had finished before the last meal (the birthday boy) which he couldn't eat as it was a chicken pie ice cold in the centre. Eggs on ham eggs not cooked so snotty on top and cold. Children's meals contain bigger portions than the adults . I had barley 10 chips. 3 members of staff 1 male 2 females wandering about but only 1 working by the looks of it (the male ) nobody checked our table to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything. So no drinks were had . We sat with plates of uneaten food for over 40 mins . Then my son had to approach the bar to ask about pudding were he was sent back with 3 types of ice-cream for the childrens meal (no adults were offered pudding) were he then had to go back to the bar with his ice-cream choice which he had to wait for and came back with 3 ice creams and spoons . I don't expect the Ritz we just wanted normal food and normal service. It seems such a waste of what could be a lovely venue.

The cat jumped on a chair on top of a handbag that was there, grabbed my son’s stuffed toy and dug it’s claws into it playing with it, and jumped on top of the table to grab some of the food when a group picture was being taken. Starter food portion was laughable it was so small for the mixed sharer for the price. Most staff was in inexperienced and not responsive enough although they were trying their best. Cauliflower bites were small and tasteless. Loaded chilli fries were a small portion but actually incredibly tasty.

The whole place needs a really thorough deep clean, the toilets smelled bad and the floors were filthy. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. It was particularly frustrating to find no prices on the drinks menus making the choice of wine a difficult process necessitating the bar staff individually researching the price for each bottle. Theyd run out of some wines, the var was packed, loads of olates and mess EVERYWHERE, again, this shows how very popular tgis place is, a lovely building, big airy rooms, though the bar was probably too small to cope with the volume of people who turned up that day, 20 mins wait for a drink, i think they were totally overwhelmed, very young staff, not a problem, just again were overwhelmed. The roast dinners seemed a massive winner, i will go back when its quieter and eat. A lovely building and outdoor space, go and investigate for yourself, worth going. Sorry but... food poor quality, need to up your game, everyone in our party had something different, all commented on disappointing quality. Service was not great, had to wait 15 mins at the bar for our bill. Need more staff it would appear.

We all really enjoyed both courses and found the service to be spot on, attentive without over bearing. The ambience was great too, music at just the right level to be enjoyed without interfering with conversation.

Spent most of our time waiting for and trying to get attention of waiting staff. Tables left to cleared, even dirty glasses mounting up by the till next to where we sat. You gave one waiting staff holding the whole place together. Didn’t get her name but whatever you’re paying her, double it. The others seem to wander around in a daze with zero sense of urgency and no customer service skills.

Friendly staff and a beautiful Manor house. The vegan nut roast was pretty good, and they had a number of other vegan options. Various items from the menu were not available, and they did not have tomato juice, but overall a good experience. Would definitely recommend.

My friend’s fish and chips were one of the best he’s ever had. I had the fish pie which was disappointing. Our wives both had the sweet potato curry which they thoroughly enjoyed.

The restaurant is filthy, dust and cobwebs around the windows haven’t been cleaned for months. I had the fish pie and it didn’t compare favourably to our local Mitchell’s and Butler

In the summer we ordered their lovely chunky chips with homemade coleslaw. But just before Christmas we went for same ,it consisted of 7 chips and no coleslaw, but same price.

Brilliant service and afforded the privacy for a wake/celebration of a life. All in all it felt like a celebration. There was plenty of parking for everyone and if there had been over spill there was plenty of parking on the road. The facilities were clean and the staff attention was quick, friendly, efficient & non-intrusive. There was plenty of food, it catered for both carnivores and herbivores and I'm told they had gone above and beyond what was expected. I was too full to have any of the delicious cake that was brought out.
