We stopped and had a Kim chi and cheese toastie and coffee for breakfast, it was amazingly good, really unusual but made with love. We then brought some veg rolls and spinach and ricotta pastries, these looked good too

Expensive for what they are. The 'Kimchee and cheese' sandwich was the most stomach upsetting food. Other salads and pastries are ok but way too expensive.

Warm welcome upon our arrival. Service was on point, very attentive. I had the chicken liver & brandy parfait as my starter which, was good. I had the pork fillet wrapped in pancetta, kale, broad beans, lentils, red wine jus infused with tarragon which was absolutely delicious 😋. For desert I ordered the poached white peach, ginger sponge with pistachio chantilly cream which I really enjoyed albeit that I usually do not like deserts. The organic red wine 🍷 was absolutely delicious

The store is full of lovely produce but I have given an average rating because today was the second time we have bought prepared salad pots that have a ‘use by’ date that have expired before the date of purchase. Today I bought one prepared salad that had a best before date of yesterday and one with an expiry date of 4 days time, so the salad pots can be prepared and sitting on the shelves for 4 days or longer before sale because food is being sold that has exceeded its best before date. As the best before date stickers are put on the bottom of the pots it is difficult to check the dates before purchase. This practice certainly detracts from what this store should be about and if they want to sell food that is past it’s best before date and charge full price it should be clearly shown so customers can decide if they want to pay full price for a salad that is past its best. Shame as otherwise I like the store and the staff.

The food here is genuinely excellent and for the money, no other place in Blackheath can touch this tiny eaterie. Practically everything else about this place is slightly difficult; dining here requires a degree of patience, communal consideration and above all, good timing. The cafe style of service means queuing up to order from a small counter pulpit, in a floor space which is frequently crowded with old ladies, pushchairs, small children and people with walking aids. Happily this means that no service is added to the bill. The decor seems to be aiming at 'shabby chic' but the layout of the upper floor (two small rooms which suggest that the building has been perfunctorily adapted from a former residence) and its standard of decor are poor; everything is the wrong size for the space, the acoustic quality of the rooms means that the sound of anyone speaking at normal volume completely dominates the room. Upstairs access is via a narrow and rather steep stairway (as you might find in small house). The best option is to sit outside at the four small pavement tables which in summer are pounced on as soon as one becomes vacant. Lunchtime service finishes at 3pm on the dottage. The hot menu is fresh and different each day, chalked up on a board and rubbed out as the two main courses sell out. Whichever I prefer is likely to be gone by about 2pm; as I said, timing is important. The salad bar runs down until about 5pm. Then there's little to be had until the evening dinner service starts at 6pm. Dinner is a table service, with a charge added to the bill. The food is consistently first class. Daytime at the weekend presents an all-day breakfast (no lunch), and dinner in the evening. Monday, the place is closed. Did I mention it was all about timing?

I've given this place 12 brunch tries as my wife loves it here but I have breakfast and she goes for lunch options at brunch. What I've had has either been 1) worse than a local CAF 2) so small hasn't filled me up portion wise 3) been very salty I couldn't eat it all 4) minor point but worth mentioning that it all seems a bit overpriced for what is a self serve/order cafe where they never check on your food and fail to bring out two brunch's at once. I want breakfast at a brunch cafe is that so hard to get? Why is the brunch list so small that I am forced to eat the same 4 average dishes each time hoping for better but being dissatisfied? Up your game at brunch or my wife will be eating here alone!!

Love this local independent restaurant. We are regulars; the quality and service never disappoints. Always delicious and the veggie option is often the outstanding choice - and we’re not vegetarians. Ate here tonight with my husband and friend from out of town. From start to finish the evening was lovely. The service was exceptional, friendly and attentive but not over the top. The offer of tap water the moment you arrived and the drinks ordered taken soon after was great. The food was 😋 yummy.. and the portion size was very generous given the price, the meat and fish options that my husband and mate enjoyed were I’m told delicious. The vegetarian main was so well thought out in terms of its big flavours and textures it was utterly delicious and it felt like some one had taken time to plan and care for a well balanced Vegi main (and not just put another risotto on the menu). The wine and beer selection was also very good. You do have to book as the restaurant is little and popular at the weekend, but staff are really accommodating.

The service really let this place down for me. Whilst the food is good, the grumpy, unhelpful staff (except one guy) left a sour taste. Tables weren’t cleaned. We sat at an obviously dirty table (wads of blue roll) that was ignored by staff until we decided to move to another (less dirty) table that became available. If you aren’t going to serve with a smile, try another job.... it would also be helpful to make it obvious you’re to order at the till. Again, friendly staff usually ensure that.

Usted no será decepcionado. Reserve en línea o dejar un mensaje telefónico indicando sus requisitos preferido. Si no oír entonces la reserva es confirmada. A veces son demasiado ocupados para contestar el teléfono (mi única queja pero suave). Durante el día disfrute de la comida de la cafetería o comprar comida de buena calidad delicatessen para comer en casa. Muy buen café. Pd: No estoy seguro de por qué el título de la imagen unidos es medio oriental. When my plate arrived I was disappointed to see that my portion was half of what was presented to others, lots of greens and one little arancini ball. The other plates had at least 2 on. When I mentioned to the manager that I was expecting to see more on the plate he just smiled and walked away. The bill was presented and my main was billed at a full price of £14.5 for what basically was a plate of veg. It is good, honest homely environment with classy food and prompt service. We started with salted cod fritters and a poached egg and black pudding salad to start. Both were very good, even if the friendly staff brought the black pudding one minute after the rest of the salad. Somehow this just wasn't a problem when everyone was this friendly, honest, professional and the food so good. Then came the mains (monkfish and pea and broad bean arancini). Both very good. Finally we shared a lovely pannacotta. Wine is also reasonably priced and the overall meal was very good value for the quality. A great option for local eating in the heart of Blackheath.

A fab deli during the day but now open for dinner bookings. Been here a few times. Never full and I am not sure why as the food is really good, the service is always good and the wine is really good. There are lots of restaurants in Blackheath but not many have really good food - this does.

I'm a real coffee lover and Hand Made Food is in my top 3 in London. The staff are really friendly and the variety and quality of the home made organic food is srcond to none. Every time I visit there is a new dish to try and I've never been disappointed with my choice. Cooked breakfast or croissant on s lazy weekend morning is a must, you'll want to come back as often as you can. Give it a try and you'll understand why I took the time to write a review.

Nice little lunch spot - lots of different salad options to choose from and some lovely little pies and pastries. Introduced me to Homity Pie, which has become a firm favourite to make at home.

What strikes me most of all about Hand Made Foods is the quality of the food they make. I have been there many times and never tire of their humous or chicken dishes or the red cabbage slaw and the coffee is good too. In the evening they have a more elaborate menu which is equally fine. The sell a wise range of specially chosen wines and cheeses to take away. Their staff are relaxed and helpful and friendly. Great place.

In hindsight I was surprised at how empty it was as the food was good. I suspect it's because not many people even realize they served dinner as they have a thriving day time cafe and deli business. The decor is slightly odd downstairs as you are sitting in a deli surrounded by jars of Jam etc. Though it adds to the charm and certainly makes it unique, I hope it continues to be an open plan relaxed eatery and doesn't try to chase a star or become more formal. The service is very good and they are genuinely happy to see you and have a really relaxed atmosphere with the waiters very chatty and always have a smile, though the music needs to be turned up a little. There is a set menu which changes every week so you are guaranteed fresh and seasonal ingredients. The food was well made and presented well, though if I'm being very picky the food was slightly under seasoned. However the fish was perfectly done. From the two menus I saw there tends to be a chocolate dessert option so they can't really go wrong. However I would say it was a little overpriced, I understand why, as there are not many covers in the restaurant so to break even the prices must be higher. I think they could fit in a few more tales downstairs and try to fill it every night. Though for a three course set menu to be £29.50 they are pushing on the door and competing with central London Michelin star set menu prices, so I do think they need to bring it down slightly to make sure the restaurant is always full. The wine list is good and they only serve organic wines which are very good, though they say you can take them home too and have a separate price on the wine list for it. Each wine is £10 cheaper to take out, I reckon it's probably a good idea to take away that part as it simply shows your corkage fee which would annoy most people and I can't see that many people taking them up on the takeaway wine.Overall good and would return due to the good service and the seasonal food, though I think this kind of relaxed style dining in a unique setting would really suit a tapas style menu which friends can eat with a few glasses of wine.

Mano and team served up a marvellous birthday meal for me last night. We all enjoyed fabulous food, wine and a great atmosphere. The room was perfect, quaint and quirky. Our party was large enough to allow us to try the whole menu and everybody was extremely complementary - in particular the rump steak, the cheese and the bread and butter pudding got rave reviews from my guests. Thank you to everyone for making it a very special evening.

Having tasted their deli offering, we decided to visit the recently opened upstairs restaurant. It was a cold November evening, and equally as cold sitting upstairs. The very friendly waitress took our order immediately, and then began an extremely long wait.It took 40 minutes for our main courses to be served, which resulted in my wife's fish being so overcooked that she returned it. It was now too late to wait for a substitution - the manager advised another 40 minute wait!!!!! My wife now cold and hungry was not amused to be called "Darling" twice by the manager. Our Red Wine was served much too cold, the manager's explanation was that it had come straight from the cellar, and frankly, given the temperature of the room it was unlikely to warm up!. We were hugely disappointed and very unimpressed by the lack of professionalism. We will not return.

Had dinner there recently and we enjoyed our evening very much. Atmospheric lighting, friendly service, wonderful bread and a good choice of dishes for a set menu. Only downside was the medium to rare steak was definitely really rare, but that was a minor point and one which I'm sure we could have addressed at the time if we'd have wanted to. Very nice wine selection and a bang-on dessert options left me in no doubt of giving it 5 stars.

With just over 2 weeks notice I emailed Handmade Foods to ask if there was any possibility that they could host an intimate dinner party for 20 guests to celebrate my brother's wedding. Luckily for us Doug & Joey's wedding was on a Tuesday and the restaurant part of the business was only open Wed-Sun evenings.Sam replied saying that they would love to look after our celebration and from then on it seemed to me that nothing was too much trouble. My husband and I have eaten in the restaurant here once before and we've bought from the cafe. We love the quirky feel to the place. The upstairs comprises of 2 quite small rooms with unvarnished farmhouse type tables and boho decor. I'm a small business person and what I really like about this place is that 'small business' feel which is so much friendlier than the corporate feel of a chain restaurant.I met with Sam just 6 days before the wedding to decide on the menu...we had 1 coeliac guest, 1 vegan, 1 vegetarian, 1 who only eats fish and one who doesn't eat fish in our party of 20. I mentioned a few things that I thought would be nice and Sam said he'd meet with the chef the next day and come up with some suggestions by email. The suggested menu was imaginative and carefully chosen. There were a few ingredients that I wanted omitted/changed and the chef came back with alternative suggestions that were spot on.The final menu was:Starter:Peperonata (roasted peppers, tomato and red onion) with burrata and foccacia crostini - this will be served without burrata for vegan and without crostini for coeliacMains:Slow roast shoulder of lamb with chickpea and saffron puree, cavolo nero and redcurrants.Monkfish with an olive oil mash, samphire, leeks and a bay velouteVegan: Chestnut, artichoke and parsnip ragout Pudding:Almond panna cotta with blackberries and a shortbread crumb Vegan/Veggie/Gluten Free: Poached pear with pistachio pralineOn the night:I'd dropped off the wedding cake, table decorations, place settings and the 24 bottles of wine & champagne (the restaurant would have happily provided the organic wines that they serve but they kindly agreed to allow us to bring our own for a very reasonable corkage of £10 per bottle opened. My husband is interested in wine and keen to choose our own non-organic! lol).I wanted plenty of time for everyone to mingle and chat before our meal so asked for the first small room to be the reception area. From 7.30pm for an hour guests arrived and were offered champagne and canapes by the lovely James.Mano was the manager looking after us for the evening. Sam (who I'd had contact with up to the night) sensitively said that 'Mano would be there to make sure that we get all of "Handmade Food's love and care". It was intuitive of him to speak like this and showed his professionalism and understanding of his clients! He immediately put me at ease. And he was quite right, Mano was lovely and seamlessly took over from Sam.They had a bluetooth speaker for me to play our wedding playlist through for the pre & post dinner mingle time and had displayed the cake and flowers beautifully with fresh candles (I hadn't asked for them and was delighted). They had even written a sweet message on their quirky brown paper roll hung on the reception wall (see pic)!Canapes:Orange and beetroot cured salmon on crostini - in baby gem for gluten freeSweet potato fritter with chilli and coriander - this is vegan and made with gram flour so also gluten free. Then we moved into the front room for the meal. The food was really really good. I read a press review that said it's like really good homecooked food and that's spot on (well it was for my - my husband is an excellent cook!)The bread was very nice, sour dough I think. The butter was interesting and nice - it was clarified and had a flavour that I can't put my finger on. The roast pepper salad was lovely and everyone seemed to think so - at anyrate it was all eaten!I had lamb for my main and it was really really good. Better/more interesting than I expected actually. It was slow cooked with moroccan type spices and the chickpea puree was yum. They had suggested a hot mint sauce but I thought redcurrants would be nicer and they were just right. I was delighted to hear guests on the table behind using words like 'delicious'.I tried a bit of my brother's monkfish which was also lovely.Pudding was perfectly light (we still had cake to come!) and just right. Crumbled shortbread with blackcurrants and almond panna cotta. I didn't try the pear dessert but it looked pretty. Overall it was a wonderful celebration and a big big part of that is down to Sam, Mano, James and the chefs (whose names I don't know) at Handmade Foods. The price was basically the price for the 3 course meals - so £29.95 per head plus the corkage and around £4 per head for the 2 canapes each. No charge for room hire or the extra touches and 'love' that the business gave us. I couldn't be happier and neither could the Groom & Groom. I'm wondering when I can next have a dinner party at Handmade Foods and we will certainly be eating there often.

The place is cosy and casual, felt very nice and relaxing to sit downstairs.the staff were all very friendly and smiley, looks like a place where everyone is happy to work. The lady that served was very welcoming and cheerful, 10 out of 10 for her.Unfortunalty some of the food was not as great as the service. We ordered lamb special and roast gammon with a selection of salads. The lamb.... which was not the greatest dish, mince lamb sauted with onions and cumin, served in some flat bread, the dish felt a bit grainy, maybe the cumin spices wasnt cooked out properly and was oilly, just felt like it was an unfinished dish. Maybe with a bit of tatziki or hummus or even a light tomato sauce to cut through the oil.The gamon and salad... salads looked, tasted and felt fresh, could have done with a bit of seasoning. gammon was cooked perfect, tasty and not dry.

Tangy real mint sauce.Flourless chocolate and almond cake perfectly flavoured though a tad dry. Creme fraiche and a good icing made an well balanced accompaniement.Eton Mess was delicate. I have been coming here since they opened in the old format, now refreshed and a new offer I have enjoyed the food for a very long time BUT TODAY>>>>> LOVELY FRESH INGREDIENTS - beautifully cooked and prepared, BUT dealing with an order for 3 of us was chaotic! Having placed an order there were numerous rechecks and price corrections. I had explained my wheat, oats, barley gluten etc allergy in great detail! I also explained how ill these allergens made me! The food then arrived mixed up with 2 of my items touching wheat products! One drink was not confirmed on the order and so did not arrive, despite me asking for it at the time of placing the order! Wine was absolutely delicious, I would have liked to order more sparking water, but as the first order had proved so difficult we decided not to bother! Went elsewhere for desert! Fennel salad was exceptionally good, but when you are tired after a hard week at work, relaxation is essential for a Saturday lunch! Also felt it was rather expensive for the quantity and dwell time for the meal. QUALITY however is superb!
