a one of a kind, last of a dying breed type pub - super friendly locals and staff, excellent own brewed beer as well as a good and changing selection of guest beers. Live traditional Irish folk band performances, live jazz band performances, fun an informal non trashy DJ nights, games of toad (a traditional local game that involves throwing a thing into a thing). No pressure to participate in any of this if all you want is a quiet pint.

My mate was disappointed in it. Designer tiredness in Kemptown.

Good beer and vibes, odd and kooky but in an unthreatening way There is not a lot of space: you may end up on the pavement, which I don't love However, this is my pal Watto's favourite pub, and he's a five star guy, so this place gets 5*

Wonderful, cosy and perfectly authentic pub. Even has a perfectly slight out of tune piano. Many of the regulars bring their dogs, which is an obvious plus.

In many other places this is the sort of pub that would be the highlight of a pub crawl. Here it's just another excellent pub close to other excellent pubs in a city seemingly full of them , if I lived here I would have problems! This is a small cozy slightly dark, heavenly non macro beer range, and friendly everyone. Hard to leave...

All beers on tap are brewed in-house and often in situ (and they’re all impeccable. They’ve been doing this a while). Bar staff, regulars, and atmosphere are all delightful. Best pub in Brighton hands down.

This pub is very pub. Proper British pub and I absolutely loved it. My Mrs and her father have been visiting this place for years and they said I should visit and they were so right! The beer is mostly their own and is excellent! There's an old pub game called Toad or Toad in the hole, there's love music every Sunday, the locals are very friendly and the staff are super lovely. I can't wait to go back....it's well worth the 400 mile commute!

A very peculiar place, full of details and signs of time passing by. Carefully crafted beers, a wide range of profiles with a depth of flavour. The staff greet you with a smile and is completely attentive even when they are busy. There is a sense of family, neighbourhood, joy, and community. I'll come back whenever I get a chance.

Easily the best pub in Kemptown, and quite possibly in all of Brighton. Home brewed decent ales, lovely atmosphere and a great bunch of people to boot. 100% recommended. Honestly, visiting Brighton you'd do yourself a disservice not visiting this place

A really lovely pint of Bird butter from a barman who was proud to serve it having just cleaned the lines and changed the barrel. Served perfectly in a sparkling glass. Under £4 which is good for Brighton. Friendly service and a great bunch of characterful locals. A brilliant Kemptown boozer.

Nothing but love for this little haven.

A great small bar that is fantastic for beer lovers as they serve a large range of beers most of which they need themselves. We went a week before Christmas, and the bar man was being very strict on covid measures which worked for me, and we chatted happily about the beers.

Me, my husband, my parents and my dogo where there yesterday eve (between 4 and 6.30ish) and had 2 nasty encounters with i presume a loca who said he was going to kick my dog and when i replied “i don’t think you want to hurt my dog” he said “i will hUrt you too”. A member or staff heard these comments and difuse the situation but did nothing more. A few moments later, my husband went outside for a moment and this man said to him “shut the door you cunt”. Later on, the staff rang the bell and got us all to sing happy birthday to this man (i think he is a regular) and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable as not only nothing happened to him for verbally abusing us but we then had to sit next to him for the rest of our time and appraise him for his birthday. I didn’t have the chance to say anything at the time as my parents are visiting from Spain and didn’t want to generate an uncomfortable situation but we do come here often and love this place and the fact that all this happened was incredibly disappointing for me. Can i assume this was just some kind of one off? Or is this regular client done this previously? It’s a small coZy pub so hard to ignore someone who went for ua twice in the space of 20 mins. I would appreciate any kind of response.

Been in this pub a couple of times before and always had a good experience. Until last weekend. Walked in for a casual pint with my brother and his friend (late 30’s, early 40’s) telling them how nice it was, bar person asked what we wanted, then manager whispered in bar person’s ear, we were then told they had reached capacity. Ok fair enough. Walking out passed two people coming in the door. We watched through the window as they were served. Obviously always up to their discretion who they serve but three sober adults, couldn’t see a plausible reason unless the wale of our corduroy wasn’t correct perhaps.

Great little pub, very interesting and unique. A great place to meet with friends and chat. Their own brewed beers are amazing and a great selection. Amazing staff happy to help and recommend a beer for all tastes. Met the owners too who were warm friendly and very welcoming especially as our group weren't local. Attended the jazz night which was brilliant. Will definitely be drinking here again when I next visit.
