Manju's - Restaurant Brighton in Brighton and Hove

Amazing Indian vegetarian restaurant. I would recommend going as a group of 4 and then you can try one of everything on the menu, however you will be very full afterwards. They brought each dish us one by one and explained the food to us. All of it was very delicious. We were too full for dessert but it did look fantastic.

Delicious food and best ever service!

We've been wanting to eat here for a while and had high expectations. We weren't disappointed. The food is fabulous - full of complex flavors and textures. The service is exceptional - friendly with lots of information about the dishes and the history of the restaurant - which is quite remarkable (check out their website). It really is a family restaurant (three generations work there at the weekend) where you feel the 'love' of the family for each other and their food. A real privilege to be part of for an evening.

Hard to get a rez at Manju’s and it’s clear why. Brighton has a wide array of great Indian Restaurants but this has immediately become one of my favourites. We had a convo last night about how a good vegetarian restaurant barely needs to mention it’s vegetarian. It’s good regardless and this is such a case. Put it toe to toe with a meaty curry and it’s still probably coming out on top. The chutneys are the best I’ve ever had too, you NEED the papad.

I was treated to lunch at Manju’s for my birthday. What a fabulous experience. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is so relaxed and comfortable. Looking forward to my next visit

Had a delicious meal with friends last night. Every dish was delicate and flavoursome. I have been to Indian and Sri Lanka and the food really brought be back to these places. Very clean and service was efficient. Would definately recommend this place

Booked a table for 4 people last Saturday. I’ve been wanting to visit this restaurant for so long and finally did! When we arrived, the restaurant was full and everyone was seated with lots of smiling faces and laughter filled the place … Good start … It’s a small but not cramped restaurant the decor is warming. We were met and sat at our table the owner explained the menu and how much to order. We ordered wine and the food. All the dishes came out a few at a time so you are not overwhelmed. The flavours are so delicious… Some delicately done but still punchy at the same time. We all enjoyed the tasty food we ordered… Just amazing flavours. I’m not a vegetarian and I didn’t miss the meat at all. I would definitely visit again.

Very nice Indian food, in small plates. A good selection and perfect for vegetarians. The staff are friendly and give a bit of background for each dish served. Would definitely recommend.

Been meaning to come here for a while. I had very high expectations, based not only on the online reviews but also on what my friends had told me. I wasn't disappointed! The food is wonderful, absolutely delicious. I had a couple of favourite Indian restaurants in Brighton, but this one has now beaten the lot by miles!

So so good. I’d heard great things about Manjus but it still exceeded expectations. Service is exemplary - expert knowledge of the family recipes and how to order. And the food - flavours jump off the plate and dance around your mouth. There’s plenty of spice but also lots of delicate combinations across every dish. It’s beautifully presented and lovely to share with friends and family. I can’t recommend it enough. Really cosy dining room too❤️

Another visit to Manju's and yet again a wonderful evening. We tasted everything on the menu and each dish superb - exquisite and unique. I don't know how they do it! Although now with Manju's recipe book I hope to find some of the secrets! And to be greeted with such genuine warmth and friendliness is very special. The description of each dish showed the love and attention to detail that clearly goes into creating such superb food and so interesting to hear about the story behind Manju's and be able to chat with the owners about the approach and philosophy that makes the restaurant so unique. Thanks a lot for a really special evening.

I must say I normally eat meat but the the food was out of the world , we were very satisfied my partner and I were really surprise how good the food was.

This is my favourite restaurant (with outstanding food even better than I tried in India). A friendly family-run gem in Brighton where everyone needs to visit. The somosa chaat is on another level of good.

A wonderful place, with amazing food and great service. We had lots of dishes to share, and it cost less than a couple of veggie burgers in the pub. It's a real destination, looking forward to trying more of the menu on our next visit.

If the only Indian people in there are the waiters , then you should know what kind of food you will get...really poor value for the money, we didn't drink anything, ordered pretty much everything on the menu, spent £30+ per person, I am not even half full… I am 160cm tall, 49kg… service was nice, they explained how they made the dish in a very calm tone, the food was looking good especially in photos …but this is the food made for the English who thinks they know and love Indian food.

The food was an exceptionally high standard. The look and feel authentically Gujarati. The dishes came one at a time with a space of 10 to 15 minutes each when I would have hoped to have them all in one go

An absolutely superb first ever visit ! 5 of us for my birthday treat. What a wonderful restaurant, excellent advice from Manjus son to literally have everything on the menu to share! Amazingly topped off with a complimentary birthday surprise complete with music and a candle! The best Indian vegetarian meal I have ever eaten!

We ordered almost the entire menu and to be honest there were 2 stand out dishes and the rest were avg. So don't let yourself be pressured into ordering the recommended 3 starters and 2 mains per person, it's simply too much food. The samoosa chaat and SESAME TIKKI were incredible, the chilli paneer was a big let down because the paneer wasn't crispy as was the spinach and onion bahji which were dense. The curries and courgette dish were avg. There was another dish with puffed rice which is the third dish I would order if ordering only 3 starters per person which I think is the right amount of food. Don't let this dissuade you, some of food at Manju's is out of this world and for that food I would definitely return.

Small Indian restaurant at the bottom of Trafalgar Street, not your average Indian restaurant by any means, and solely serves vegetarian food. A small but perfectly formed menu of dishes to share, we ordered a variety of dishes, lots that I had never come across before. The dishes were quite small so we were able to sample a lot of the menu between the four of us and everything was delicious, really well balanced in terms of sweet, sour, heat and spice, we ate everything. Lovely homemade Indian bread and pickles as well, if I had to criticise anything it would be that the aubergine was slightly undercooked in a dish we had. As this is a small restaurant you do need to book ahead to eat here, however you can get a cancellation sometimes if you ring up. As this is an older building, elderly or those with mobility issues here might have trouble if they need to use the toilet as it is down a steep flight of stairs. Overall a lovely restaurant really showcasing Indian food at it’s best would definitely come here again.

Incredible experience dining at Manju’s. The food was spectacular and we especially loved the sesame tikki! While London and Brighton have many good restaurants, dining at Manju’s was just unique as we got the feeling that we are a guest in their home rather a customer :) We will definitely try to visit everytime we travel to Brighton. Best Indian place I have ever been! Definitely, worth visiting. It is different to other Indian restaurants. Focused on vegetarian dishes from Gujarat. Dishes are light, colourful and packed with flavour. The restaurant is intimate and also has a great story behind it. I plan to go again!

Indian Tapas Good food, small portions (not cheap) with good flavours.

Delightful family run restaurant. Book ahead. Tapas style fixed set of dishes. Home cooked feel, and the family all pull together to keep the elderly Manju’s dream alive. Do go!

TL;DR: One of the best meals we've ever had and wish we were local as we would definitely be back regularly!! The full run down... We booked for a Friday night as we had come down to Brighton for a concert on the Thursday and were not leaving till Saturday. Right from the start the staff were friendly and welcoming. Upon reaching our table (near the bar which really made no difference at all to our enjoyment incidentally) there was a small personalised greeting on the table itself which was a lovely touch. The menu is short but that's one of the restaurant's strong points I feel. I often find the restaurants offering every dish under the sun rarely bring the quality to go with the selection. We chose 4 small plates and 2 curries (as per the suggested servings on the menu for 2 people) and found the quantity of food to be absolutely spot on. Each dish was brought to our table one at a time as they were cooked, and each one was explained in full by the attentive and obviously proud members of staff (who I believe were Manju's sons). The flavours were incredible. This is NOT your typical curry and beer night down the local Indian. Manju and her family have attempted to bring a taste of real Indian cuisine to our shores and quite frankly we couldn't get enough of it. We're both meat eaters but didn't miss it at all. The desserts were also fantastic and to be honest I don't think either of us has smiled quite so much throughout a meal before. At £84 for 2 people (6 courses + dessert + a beer each) I thought it was fairly reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. I've paid more and enjoyed it less that's for sure. Add to this the fact that Manju is 86 years old and what's not to find amazing about this place? I can say without a doubt that if or when we come back to Brighton in the future the first place we'll look to book a table is Manju's.

This was my first time here and I absolutely loved this place! It’s a small place but very cosy. The staff are so sweet and polite. The food is all vegetarian and I love the fact that you have lots of small meals. There were 3 of us and we ordered 9 meals and that was plenty for us. Every dish was delicious and as an Indian I can honestly say the food was incredibly authentic and tasty. Lots of people came in looking for a table but they were all turned away as they were fully booked. We only got in due to a last minute cancellation. Book way in advance to get a table you won’t be disappointed. I will definitely be back when I’m back in Brighton in May. Meena

Manju's is in my top 3 favourite restaurants worldwide. This time we were a group of 4 and ordered the entire menu - who's bucket list is this not on? Everything, and I mean everything was a flavour explosion. Each dish was different and unique with multiple stand outs for everyones tastes whilst all being tasty I'm not sure how its even possible. This isn't even related to what us Brits call an Indian meal, this is on a whole higher level. I'm a big meat eater and never miss meat coming here. Such a great restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and a great story. I wish we lived closer so we could go every week! As I said we ordered the menu plus 2 drinks each split between 4 totalled £150 (37.50 each) and we were all STUFFED! The drink selections are mostly local beers and a varied wine list amongst cocktails. Something for everyone, all good quality. This is what every dining experience should be like - but only Manju's does it this good!

We came here for the special Christmas eve Roti service after hearing so many amazing things about the food and service. Although it was a set menu it didn't matter, it was a great snapshot of how amazing this place is. A real gem amongst the plethora of Indian restaurants in Brighton and Hove. The food was top notch, clearly so much attention to detail to each element of the dishes and all top quality ingredients used as well. The service was fantastic and a huge part of what makes eating here so special. We cannot wait to come back and sample the rest of the menu. Thank you Manju's for an incredible and tasty dining experience.

Incredible experience. Welcomed with extremely warm hospitality. The staff were wonderful, fun and went beyond to cater for a coeliac customer. When asking about gluten free desserts to be brought out as a birthday gift they were happy for me to bring my own in and present that for the birthday girl. Food was beautiful and came out fast. Another wonderful experience at Manju’s this evening. Exquisite street food, perfectly spiced, beautifully presented in a wonderful atmosphere. Outstanding. The food is amazing, so tasty. This isn't your usual Indian restaurant that serves sloppy "curry", this is the real deal. The staff know their food and explained every dish served. Every dish is vegetarian but don't let that put you off if you want meat, you won't miss the meat at all. It's a family run restaurant with several generations working at the same time. This is up there with some of the best food in Brighton.

Service and food both excellent. A fairly small sharing menu with 6 or 7 small plates of street style food and 4 Curries. We had 5 dishes and all were amazing and authentic. Well done to the whole team. We travelled from Southampton for the meal and will do so again.

The most truly authentic Indian meal I’ve ever had in a restaurant. A lovely touch on arrival at our table, a little blackboard personally welcoming us. The food looked amazing and the flavours were out of this world. The dishes were carefully explained and the service was very personal. My husband and I will definitely be returning.

Delicious and spicy with great Gujurati flavours. Exceptional service. My only very slight niggle is I would have liked slightly larger portions of rice and bread, but this niggle is too small to reduce the well deserved 5 star rating.

What a gem! Had a delicious lunch here - everything was expertly prepared. The sesame tikka and bhel puri were particular favourites. If visiting on the weekend would strongly recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

Wonderful family owned restaurant where every member of the family is involved and they do it with so much love . The food is authentic and delicious, the atmosphere is buzzy , the service is impeccable. You won’t find a better restaurant in the whole of brighton. And the star of the restaurant of course is mummy manju !

Highly recommend this wonderful, family run Indian restaurant. From start to finish the service, atmosphere and attention to detail was fantastic. It really felt like a home away from home experience. With wonderfully authentic, different and homely food there is no doubt that love and thought goes into every dish. If you’re a lover of mango chutney this is the place for you with a 13 spice infused chutney being our favourite. For me, I rate a restaurant on three main aspects: taste, atmosphere and value. Manju’s gets a 10/10 for all three. Thank you to the family and team for a great evening!

Have been waiting to dine here after seeing various posts in a Vegan dining group. It is a small cosy place with a great decor. It feels like you're just visiting friends for a meal. The service was superb and felt very natural. Food was absolutely amazing with so many layers of flavours. They have got a great approach to their business and it is obviously working based on the reviews and a packed restaurant. I for one will definitely be coming back here. Thanks for a great meal and thanks for making us feel so welcome. 10/10

Comfortably the best Indian food I have ever had in this country. The first time we went was two weeks before I went to India in 2019 and I didn't experience anything superior in Delhi, Agra, Jaipur or Mumbai! The family running Manju's are a delight and make everyone feel very welcome. A real gem.

One sadness during the past two years has been the closed shutters at Manju's. We were very excited to see the restaurant reopen this month, just ahead of a family celebration. Like old times, the atmosphere, food and service are excellent, creating a wonderful and intimate experience of Gujarati magic. Outstanding home style authentic Indian food by Manju herself in Brighton just 5 minutes walk down the hill from the train station on trafalgar Street. . Nothing like I’ve tasted before in England. The flavours are so unique and individual to Manju, . Luckily I live round the corner so I can pop in any time but it’s worth coming a little way to experience this delight in Indian food. Make sure you book a table as the restaurant seats about 25 people. As a result you don’t wait very long for the food and when it arrives you will be blown away by the colour, presentation & layers of flavour. Manju is open for an evening meal Tuesday to Saturday.

Great vibe but food is average compare to london restaurants. Service is I must highlight is amazing. All veg and lovely drinks. Always booked so book well in advance.

We frequently travel to London from New York, and when we do we always are sure to take the train to Brighton for the sea air, the 99 Flake and the best Indian dining experience we have ever had. The food is flavourful, fresh and delicious. The staff is patient, friendly and happy to explain the menu.

I finally got to have my first Manju's meal for my birthday lunch in February 2020 (after trying to book on many previous occasions and it always being fully booked) and wasn't disappointed. What a fabulous family run restaurant, so welcoming and friendly and a great ethos - no d********! Please don't ever change that.......... The food is AMAZING. It's not just a meal out, it's a whole food experience. I cannot recommend Manju's highly enough, I even got my own happy birthday song played, a birthday dessert and the best present of all, Manju coming up from the kitchen to say hello. Thank you for a wonderful birthday lunch - I will be back and hopefully with the T-shirt we talked about :-)

I think the best Indian food I've ever tasted. Freshly prepared exquisite dishes carefully presented and described in detail. Very friendly owners with extensive knowledge of the food and how best to eat it. Just make sure to book will in advance for evening sittings. It's possible to just turn up for the lunch serving but no guarantee of space! Please visit this wonderful place. It is amazing.

I have been meaning to eat at Manju's for a long while! And so glad I finally did! Manju came up to say hello. What a wonderful lady. She's so lovely and amazed that she is still cooking at 83! Her sons Naimesh and Jamie are great too. One of the most authentic family restaurants and great little gems in Brighton. An absolute must experience!

Felt so at home here. The food tasted like it was cooked with love. Very attentive and friendly service - had a good chat with the waiter/part owner, who gave us the history of the restaurant and his legend mum.
