Embers in Brighton and Hove

Really excellent food and atmosphere. Been a couple times for Sunday roast and they’ve always been insanely good. Really like the intimate atmosphere, feels really cosy. Also I really enjoy the playlists they’re superb

So, I've been to many high end restaurants around Europe and received excellent food and service, so I had high expectations for this place... Tried out this Restaurant for me and my partners 2nd Anniversary as we did some research for a new restaurant to try out. We booked an 8:15pm slot under occasion "anniversary" as the website gives you the option to specify upon booking... (means nothing) which I'll get on to... We arrived a few minutes before our allocated time of (8:15) only to arrive with our table not ready, I understand, Saturday, busy vibe, busy service... However, where our table was located behind the kitchen area there was tables which were unallocated. So, I beg the question why we had to remain standing a few minutes at the front. Staff reacted almost like "oh, you've booked with us?!" It felt very messy... not prepared at all. Once we were seated, we were greeted by one of the waiters who asked if we'd been here before, we stated "no, it's our first time in which we're celebrating our 2nd anniversary together" - upon saying this... the waiter seemed over joyed, very happy to hear that we came here to spend this special occasion. Upon reviewing the menu for several minutes before the waiter returned, we decided on the Olives, £51 Steak for two with TWO other plates, Potatoes & Carrots. He informed us in his words "6 dishes is ideal" - We ordered just the 3 dishes (excluding olives) because we didn't know the portion size so we considered sharing, neither was specified by the waiter, however we didn't ask him... though for our first time, which we specified, I feel it'd incredibly vital to make it clear to your customers what you're ordering with confidence, there's no harm in telling us for example, I recommend going for 6 dishes as our portions are on the smaller side, nearing à la carte size. To me, that would've been reassuring to us. Are they ashamed to tell customers they're portion sizes?! Really odd... The waiter took our order which was a bottle of wine and a passionfruit cocktail.... 15 minutes later drinks hadn't arrived, then another waiter attended to us and asked us what drinks we ordered. We stated again, what we ordered with the other waiter. So then additionally we waited another 5 minutes, that's 20 odd minutes just to receive drinks, completely disgusting service. Food came around 40 minutes later which is unacceptable, even for a busy Saturday evening, without an apology either. Thankfully the Food was incredibly good and had an amazing array of flavours which made up for the terrible service. Just when you things couldn't get worse... We asked for the bill to ANOTHER waiter, only to receive a bill of £150+ which shocked us. On further close inspection, we saw they charged us TWICE for the Bottle of Wine & Cocktail. The 3rd waiter who gave us our bill, said "is everything good with the bill guys?" We abruptly said No, absolutely not, there's been a mistake, and stated the obvious... upon conveying this to her, we recieved the oddest sarcastic response which I can't quite remember what was specified, perhaps her strong accent made it inaudible but it certainly wasn't an apology which is disgusting and she made it loud so other nearby customers could hear. So they almost charged us £50 more than what our bill was! - this was amended after we explained it. But I can't get my head around a high class restaurant like Embers, that they can't give a sincere apology or offer a complimentary service e.g (dessert) or remove an item from the bill, just to make your customers feel wanting to come back. We left bitterly disappointed with the service we received but enjoyed the food. Though saying that. These two things go hand in hand, you need good service and good food to make us want to come back. That won't be us unfortunately.

Over-rated and disappointing!! Not too much taste from the dishes, no care when serving and they seemed rushed. Cocktails were good. Better places in Brighton for small plates etc. I would not recommend or return.

Finally got to try this meat restaurant that I have heard so much about it since it opened! The location is great , tucked away in the lanes . We sat at the bar and were very well looked after , all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and was nice to see the banter between them behind the bar . Also great to see the meat being cooked on the coals . We shared a few dishes including the pork tomahawk and lamb loin chop , the meat was cooked to perfection and was so tender that pretty much melt in the mouth . The side dishes to go with the meat we found to be a let down , we had the potato salad and the charred broccoli and really nothing to shout about. We thought they could add more /better side dishes to go with the excellent meat as we thought the choice was a bit dull . Unfortunately we were too full for dessert but we saw the rolo dessert going past and thought it looked very decadent. The wine list we thought it was very pricey for what it was, we recognised a few names on the list that we have purchased before , particularly the English sparkling wine that happened to be the one we regularly buy and the mark up was very high , of course in a restaurant you ll always pay a lot more than in a wine cellar shop but I’m talking about 3/4 times the price tag . We had a fabulous evening and we look forward to go back to try their famous Sunday roasts.

Wow! Best Sunday roast ever. This place is a gem. The staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and you can instantly tell they are happy which always makes such a difference in the work place. Valerie was just instantly likeable and her service was top notch. Watching the chefs cook and plate up the food was just delightful and they all did it with a smile. I cannot wait to return and try the small plates.

Very cool restaurant with very efficient knowledgeable staff. I love ‘small plates’ especially when in a group as you get to try so many dishes. Every dish we had was exceptionally good. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Brighton.

Booked dinner for 2 on a Friday night, saw lots of good reviews so very excited but left a bit disappointed unfortunately. I understand it's a busy night and they might be understaffed or whatever and that we should expect a wait with the food but we didn't get our drinks until we had been sitting there for an hour already. And our first dishes not for another 45 minutes after that. We were compensated for this at the end but unfortunately the food fell short as well. The duck leg was tasty and full of flavour but was dry and a bit tough. The veal was underwhelming and lacked flavour. The best dish by far was the short rib however which was delicious and melted in your mouth. Furthermore when booking they ask if it's for a special occasion, which it was, but nothing extra was done in the end, so we were wondering why bother asking when taking reservations? The ambience was good however and the service itself was friendly. Perhaps on a different night things would've been smoother.

We had such a lovely time- the service was great, and so was the food and cocktails. The staff were so lovely with our little girl and dog too.

We rarely go out for a meal so it was important for us to pick something that's great. Embers has mostly great reviews and we really liked the menu and the concept behind Embers. We really wanted to like Embers, but I'm afraid the name felt a bit misleading - as unfortunately a lot of the food (especially the meats) we had were cold. The staff kindly discounted our bill to meet us halfway but I have to say it's overall a disappointing experience especially for a restaurant in this price range. Good news is - this is something that the restaurant can easily fix (with heated plates for example), I'll happily give the place a second try if they address this.

We had dinner here last week and it was absolutely unbelievable! The food, the atmosphere and the staff were amazing. Every dish was so good and it’s so amazing to be able to see the chefs make them in front of you! We will be back again soon x

The best roast dinner we’ve ever had! Lovely little restaurant, service was great and the food was delicious. After listing all the best roasts we’ve had this sat firmly at top!

We hand a really wonderful time here. It is the perfect spot to treat yourself with lovely dinner. My bf loved the pork tomahawk, while my favorite was the 1/4 roasted chicken. The cocktails were also lovely. The staff was very attentive and professional.

Unreal roast and the service was great.

Arrived 4 min late and we were told that we would not be served. Did phone in 1h prior to inform that our concert was running late. They said be there 9:45-10:00 and you are good, arrived 10:04. That's almost fair but a tad red tapist. The main concern was the Gentleman chef who informed us in a very uncharming and unfriendly way when we arrived, even though we were very apologetic and friendly towards all staff. Looks like a cool place, hope they take our review constructive, as it is ment. Kind wishes Henrik

We celebrated my partner’s birthday here and it was absolutely spectacular. Everything we ordered was delicious, and we would definitely return to try the rest of the menu.

What a gem of a place! Tucked away in the Lanes, Embers offers up small plates with everything being cooked over coals. The food is absolutely delicious. Our stand-outs were an amazing wagyu steak that was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and just melted in our mouths, and the mackerel fillet that came with a fiery vindaloo sauce and a tangy gooseberry compote. This flavour combination was superb! Service was faultless too. Our waitress was really friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the food on offer. Oh, and don't forget to check out the cheeky little cocktail menu too... I'd definitely recommend eating here!

Great menu of diverse flavours with a strong emphasis on woodfired, charcoal, and grilled. Standout was the tomatoes (so crisp and delicious) and the ox tongue tacos.

Shared plates but the restaurant struggled with consistency & timing and we were ultimately left dissatisfied. We had a fantastic tomato salad, but the sea trout had too little flavour while a cold potato salad, tasting strongly of smoke/räksallad, had too much, overwhelming a more delicate cut of waygu x sussex beef when the two inexplicably turned up together. At the end, we ordered bread because we were still hungry, which was a disappointing way to fill up. The wine was meh. We went elsewhere for dessert: by this point they were really slowing down. I saw the hard work Embers put in; we really wanted to like it, but the consistency simply wasn’t there. Frankly, I was surprised by their inclusion in the Michelin guide.

This place is a slapper (in the best way) 👏🏻. Tons of flavor and really well executed. Get y’self in there and eat some grilled meat and/or vegetables, fool!

Thank you! Sunday evening, shared chicken, have not had better in the last decade. Service spot on. Cocktails prompt and excellent. Ask for more bread sauce.. There can never be enough of that. Remember to book.

Sunday roast was delicious, and the bread with dripping butter, wow. Would come back just for that! Cocktails were gorge. We'll be back for all of it.

Really delicious food cooked over open fires, especially the lemon sole. Would 100% recommend. Can't wait to go again!

Great restaurant that offer small plates and "showpiece" dishes. Welcoming and attentive staff who explain the concept and told us exactly how much we should order and their recommendation was spot on. All the food was delicious with the charcoal flavours at the heart of everything. Only one criticism...my corn Taco was a bit tough/stale so it collapsed as soon as I picked up my Taco. But other than that small blip, all the dishes were absolutely mouthwatering. Our fav was the caramelised pork belly and the vindaloo Mackrell! Not to forget the Cocktails which are clearly well thought out and made with a bit of passion (and fire)!! We shall most certainly be back.

A lovely experience for me and the wife on our first date night after having a baby. A very chilled and relaxed atmosphere with rustic, industrial type decor. We were given a cosy table, ‘The Snug’, which was perfect. The cocktails were great and we loved the style of the menu. All the food we had was delicious with my favourite being the pork tomahawk, it was cooked to perfection! The Lamb was delicious too, and the Rolo dessert was to die for! So rich and indulgent. The service was great, everyone was lovely and accommodating and we’ll definitely return and try another seasons menu. Unfortunately didn’t get any photos of the food as we were too excited to try everything!

We adored Embers. The food was amazing, the staff was super friendly, and it has a great atmosphere overall. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the food, I guess we couldn't wait digging in as each plate arrived. Next time we are in Brighton, we will be back.

Great food, super service! The presentation of dishes was expertly curated. We had 5 plates, and was presented them very quickly. The cocktails are amazing too! The only slight downside was that it was my girlfriends birthday, and I specifically mentioned this prior to booking our table, however it was never acknowledged during our time there.

Excellent service, very accommodating staff. I was served the best Bloody Mary twist in my life, made by Lyndon who is an excellent and lovely bartender. The food is splendid, with their Sunday Roast being the best I've had in Brighton

We had an amazing meal at Embers on Saturday night. We were seated at the bar and got to watch our food being cooked over the open fire. All dishes tasted amazing and the service was excellent. Will definitely be returning for more.

The concept of this shop it's more about getting different dishes rather than main dish in front of you. The "kitchen" is open to view from the tables, not always visible to clearly see what the cooks are doing but it adds a lot to the aesthetic of the restaurant. The standard of service is beyond any UK experience so far and was great. Now in terms of food, it was absolutely great! Full of flavour, perfectly cooked, no flavours were lost but everything was enriched and excellent presentations in the plates. These guys are above and beyond!

The food was nice, but on the expensive side. For 50£ a person I would expect something more high end. Atmosphere was noisy and the seating was a bit uncomfortable. It was ok, but not something I would recommend to friends…

I’d had my eye on embers for a little while as it seems to have been winning accolades and praise over the last year. And I was lucky to get taken here for my birthday this weekend. First off, it took us a little work to find it; Google maps were not our friends! We kept going round in circles in the lanes. But when we did we were warmly welcomed and sat quickly. We decided on the beef sharing platter and couldn’t land on a wine out of two. We were kindly given a taste of each to help us to decide. The wine is question is pictured here and was delicious. Just right with the meal. The beef dinner was like the poshest but coolest Sunday roast. Simple pleasures like well cooked beef, yorkshires and potatoes with horseradish and gravy were perfectly combined and the joy of sharing was great fun. The pudding of strawberries and panna cotta was a great finishing off. We were the last to leave what had been a buzzy busy place but didn’t feel rushed off or guilty for taking our time. Proper knowledgable staff and a friendly atmosphere. Nothing pretentious, hearty but cool.

Wow! We had the most amazing food so delicious can't wait to come back and eat again! The staff were really friendly and the experience was really mellow and calm.

Firstly the restaurant is a nice spot, off the busy lanes and nicely decorated. However that is probably the only highlight of this restaurant. Not only did we ask for water 3 times before it was received but the food was underwhelming. We had the roast for 4, the calufoir puree you wouldn’t even know it was there. Along with the lamb. The pork belly was nice but crackling was soggy. The potato’s were small and appeared to have been batch cooked a day ago. We waited a long time for an off plan meal and was very excited but this was total let down. Not to mention the cherry on the cake. When done and having a lovely conversation with friend the waiter then came over and asked if we would like any thing else. We said we were good for now. He then ask “so just the bill then” and we all looked at each other like well sure. Rather then going to print to receipt after asking he present it from behind his back. So rude, so pushy and even if they wanted the table back there is a way of asking and that is not it, Would never go back, Would never recommend.

Just back from a lovely 'tapas' style lunch at Embers. Absolutely wonderful food , mouthwatering smoky combinations and loved the small sharing plates. We shared the scallops, beef heart, broccoli and trout . Highly recommended.

All out of 10, let those who say that England doesn't eat well come here, they will change their minds. Recommended in every way.

One of the best steak I've had, and best meal I had in Brighton.

We went on Saturday evening it was very busy . Our table was right out the back under the the extractor fan outlet. I think the tables were just put there as it was busy . All we could hear was the fan . When it came to the food the portions were so small but very expensive. They tasted good but for the price I think they could give more . The most disappointing food was the scallop that was the size of a ten pence piece yes just one of them !!.They say that they are sustainable. I think they should be left in the sea to grow more . I live by the sea in Dorset and know what a nice scallop should be like . So I'm sorry to say that I found my experience very disappointing.

We loved our lunch at Embers. We sat at the counter and watched our food being cooked whilst chatting to the chef. The food is all cooked over fire and it all looks so good, we wanted to eat every dish on the menu. Brighton isn't far from us, so this will be one of our regulars from now on.

Not many options for non-meat eaters obviously, however the stuffed onion was very good.

I cannot compliment this restaurant enough! We stumbled upon this place - on arrival we were welcomed and seated at the bar in front of the chefs which completely added to the experience. The menu is great - we ordered the wagyu special which was unbelievable, highly recommend while they have! Great service throughout, everyone was super friendly. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Watching the chefs cook over open flame was fascinating. Amazing dining experience overall, would love to go back next time we are in Brighton!

Embers is a fine dining restaurant in Brighton with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes seasonally, but you can always expect to find “dishes that deliver punchy yet contrasting flavour combinations”: creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. One of the things that makes Embers unique is their use of fire. The kitchen has a grill, with a wood-fired oven that gives the food a smoky, charred flavor. You can taste this throughout the menu. The service at Embers is amazing. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, and they make you feel like you're in good hands. You can truly tell that everyone working there is passionate. Overall, Embers is a fantastic restaurant that offers a truly special dining experience. It's the perfect place to go for a special occasion or a romantic evening.

A great all round experience. I had the beef heart skewers, asparagus and beef rump. Washed down with their smoked old fashioned and a Spanish red. I was on my own so ate at the bar. It was worth it just to watch the chefs working the grills, but thankfully the food more than matched the entertainment. The service was terrific and the guys on grills were super friendly. The rump was one of the best steaks I've ever had, properly beefy flavour, cooked to perfection rare, the quality of the meat and the cooking really shone. It's worth planning a trip to Brighton just to come here.

We had a wonderful dinner at Embers last night, part of my hubbie’s birthday celebrations. We sat at the kitchen counter and watched the delicious food being prepared with exceptional dedication and focus. Our favourite was the scallops! Almost every dish was gluten free which was a big bonus. Every member of staff was delightful and made the evening really special. Would 100% recommend.

A really enjoyable experience for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. We arrived on time and were promptly seated by a friendly manager (Arthur I believe). The menu was explained really well by our main waitress (Iike?) who was amazing and incredibly helpful. Despite not being on the menu, the staff accommodated our request for Irish Coffee to start, which was very kind and appreciated. The food was all amazing, with different, interesting flavours. We ordered desserts, and promptly the manager came over to tell us the chef wasn't satisfied with the quality of the apple crumble, but was happy to provide an alternative dessert free of charge, which was incredibly professional and appreciated. When trying the desserts all we could say was "wow". Overall, I was blown away by everything at embers, and am excited to come back another time to explore the rest of their menu.

Had an absolutely gorgeous meal for our wedding anniversary. As a coeliac (who's also lactose intolerant & allergic to shellfish!) I don't have much luck with restaurants, there tends to be one dish I can eat on the menu (that's IF I'm lucky! There's plenty of places we just can't go to!). This was amazing - we had 6 dishes we could both share equally - a couple of these were only fine because I'd brought lactase pills, but even without that I'd have had a choice, which is almost unheard of! It's long annoyed me that I don't have access to the same choices as other when we eat out, just for the want of a couple of small substitutions on a menu which make little/no diff to flavour - this menu was well thought through & delicious! All the small plates were perfectly planned and executed - 'small plates' can sometimes be a bit of an incoherent mishmash but this was a succession of taste bombs one after the other. The cured trout & pork carnitas were outrageously good. We had an absolutely cracking meal and are already planning to come back in a couple of weeks. Staff were attentive, cheery and careful with my food requests, and with 2 beers the price was under £50 each.

Food and service both excellent. All the dishes we had were had were fabulous, great cocktail list and friendly and knowledgable service. Good choice of gluten- and meat-free dishes. I would recommend and will come again!

And if you are going for a dessert go for The Rolo. It's incredible. Best dessert I've ever had! Planning to get back ASAP.

Staff were so lovely and it is a friendly, relaxed and comfortable restaurant. Cocktails and wine were amazing. slightly disappointed with the food unfortunately. Most of it was delicious but the pork carnitas were burnt and some dishes were way too salty for our taste. Also underwhelmed by the asparagus dish unfortunately. We did have a really lovely time though and might try again on a Sunday!

Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, offering recommendations and ensuring that our experience was perfect. They were friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcomed and valued as guests. But the true star of the show was the food. Every dish we ordered was delicious, bursting with flavours and wonderfully plated. The portion sizes were generous, and the presentation was beautiful. Overall, our experience at Embers was fantastic. The combination of outstanding food, impeccable service, and a warm, inviting ambiance made for a memorable birthday celebration. We left feeling thoroughly satisfied and already planning our next visit. Embers is a gem in Brighton's culinary scene, and we highly recommend it for any special occasion or a night out.

Unique dining experience! We loved the 'exploding' cocktails - and especially enjoyed the range of taste sensations the small plates delivered. The Rolo dessert was amazing as well. Will return .....

Took my girlfriend here for a belated birthday meal and couldn’t have been happier with our meal. The food was superb, both in taste and appearance. The pork carnitas were my personal favourite as well as the cauliflower centre piece that we went for. It came out intermittently as we were eating which worked perfectly where we had a new dish coming as we had finished another. The cocktails were really tasty and pretty good value. The service we received was exceptional with all staff going above and beyond. Special mention to Valerie who was not only kind and helpful to us but all surrounding tables. Loved all areas of my evening with food service and ambience.

We visited Embers on a Sunday for my partners birthday. He is a huge foodie (a chef and barbecue fanatic). The Sunday roasts were outstanding. Desserts to die for and the service and atmosphere exceptional. With both myself and my partner working in the hospitality industry both front and back of house we know how hard the team are working to make this happen. We'll done all. A must visit if your in Brighton. We can't wait to return to try the week day menu.

Absolutely amazing time at this restaurant! The hostess and waitress began by greeting us as ‘beautiful people,’ making us feel so welcomed straight away. I came here for my birthday dinner on a Sunday and wasn’t sure about having only roasts on the menu, but I had absolutely nothing to worry about, as the meal was exceptional! The food was so packed with flavour and delivered a wood-fired twist on the classic roast elements. I also got the clarified Bloody Mary upon the waitress’ suggestion and it was extremely delicious! Not like anything I’ve had before. Definitely would recommend a trip to Embers and I hope myself to be back!

Don't tell my mum, but this was the best roast I've ever had, by far! The waitress let us know at the start that it would be like a regular roast, but with a twist - and she was totally right. It was a fabulous mix of familiar and unfamiliar flavours, and the level of service was just right. Shout-out to the cocktail list as well. It is super creative at the same time as being accessible, so there is going to be something for everyone. My favourite was the Mezcal Margarita with the California Reaper chilli. The waitress (I didn't catch her name) did a great job of connecting with every single table around us in a different way and making them feel special. All round 5 star service, food, and atmosphere, and I can't wait to be back!

We visited as a large group and not one of us could fault it. The food was delicious, we enjoyed every plate of the group menu, and the staff were welcoming, attentive and took special care to us with allergies.

One of the best restaurants I’ve eaten at. Exceptional service, exceptional food. Lots of recommendations on how to work through the menu. The beetroot salad & Carnitas were top tier elite

My partner ended up in Embers for some drinks a few months ago when he was in Brighton and he commented on how good the food looked. We were in Brighton at the weekend and went to try their Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! The food was outstanding and the cocktails out of this world! We had a wonderful evening and the staff were a joy.

You can smell the food as you’re entering the lane the restaurant is located in. The food was brilliant. We tried the three beast feast which was beef, pork belly and lamb sausages. It was cooked to perfection. Alongside it, the cocktails were amazing as well! Special shoutout to the cheese and truffle sandwich on the dessert menu.

A fabulous treat, we were in on Friday evening pre theatre. Very much Brighton laid back vibe with amazing food and service. We had the lamb which was superb, the chicken also very very good! Looking forward to coming back with a new seasonal menu.

I’d been wanting to go here for a while and overall yes it’s a great restaurant, lovely drinks, decent food - the lamb was the stand out, some other dishes were nice but didn’t make me go ‘wow’, apart from the rolo pudding!! Very friendly staff. Experience let down somewhat by a slightly shabby interior which for the price you are paying I’d expect a little more comfort and attention to detail.

Been here a few times now and highly recommend. The drinks are prefect and super drinkable. It is also reasonable price for the quality of food so worth visiting!

Not a cheap place to eat, but the food is excellent and worth every penny.

Went for the Sunday roast. Certainly better than your average pub roast, with a good balance of vegetables to meat. Good quality proteins, well cooked. Great potatoes. Gravy could be better. There is a vegetarian option which was stuffed onion, which we didn't order. I found the per person pricing very confusing, and two different waitresses told us different things, confusing me even further. The pricing system makes no sense to me - it's not a buffet and we should be entitled to order 3 plates to share between 4.

If you are looking for delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and a great drink menu then look no further! We visited on a rare child free day and couldn’t recommend this more! The lamb was so tasty!! Thanks for a great dinner!

We ate here for my husbands birthday this past Saturday, April 27th. We chose 5 tapas style plates, all of which were delicious, especially the cured trout. Standout for me was the mushroom plate which was subtly smoky and then bright with pickled enoki. My husband had the panna cotta with smoky strawberries which were so unusual and we both had a glass of dessert wine which paired really well with both of our desserts and wasn’t too sweet. We were the only ones in there for a while but the ambience was great and so were the staff. We’ll definitely return when we next visit Brighton - a gem of a place!

Phenomenal restaurant. The food, atmosphere and service were outstanding. We ordered the chicken, lamb and wagyu and they were all seasoned and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is decorated really nicely, with great attention to detail from the wall art to the crockery.

Best meal in Brighton…and we’ve tried everywhere.
