Went for the Sunday roast. Certainly better than your average pub roast, with a good balance of vegetables to meat. Good quality proteins, well cooked. Great potatoes. Gravy could be better. There is a vegetarian option which was stuffed onion, which we didn't order. I found the per person pricing very confusing, and two different waitresses told us different things, confusing me even further. The pricing system makes no sense to me - it's not a buffet and we should be entitled to order 3 plates to share between 4.

We ate here for my husbands birthday this past Saturday, April 27th. We chose 5 tapas style plates, all of which were delicious, especially the cured trout. Standout for me was the mushroom plate which was subtly smoky and then bright with pickled enoki. My husband had the panna cotta with smoky strawberries which were so unusual and we both had a glass of dessert wine which paired really well with both of our desserts and wasn’t too sweet. We were the only ones in there for a while but the ambience was great and so were the staff. We’ll definitely return when we next visit Brighton - a gem of a place!

Came here for a late birthday Sunday roast treat for a friend of mine .. This place turned out to be so far up our street it could have been next door - We all have hundreds thousands of years of experience with wood fired food burned into our genes and the moment I walked in and saw the ( frankly incredible ) sharing plates of Sunday roast in front of the customers with the beautiful char on. It only the meat but the veg too I knew this was potentially special … It’s very easy for a wood fired place with an open kitchen to get smelly but even sat right by the bar running around the kitchen, it was just right - very soon my gentle rumble was turned into a growl … Luckily service is excellent ( and rather proud I noticed - always a great sign ) .. I never go for beef at an external roast as too often it’s either cheap meat, over cooked or kept warm till knackered but after watching a couple of plates go past, my chum ordered it and as everything comes as a sharing plate, this was the way .. Soon a stunning plate of Sunday Roast beef and veg was with us and what a great choice we made .. Every single part was cooked utterly perfectly - since owning a small Gozney pizza oven at home , I’ve been obsessed with fire-roasted veg and here the long, sweet carrots looked stunning against the broccoli, glass-crisp roasties and my absolute fave veg - that pointy cabbage , quartered and carefully grilled Then on the pass just above us, an extra plate arrived with two fluffed up yet crispy Yorkshire’s and a tall jug of thick, juicy gravy .., The plates we ate from ( moving the food from the huge eliptical serving platter ) were slightly smaller than normal , but this is actually a genius move ( no idea whether planned or not ) as what’s directly in front of you never gets out of hand , and you are always looking longingly at the main serving platter feeling you’ve done really well - best of both worlds mentally and never overwhelming, always pleasing At this point I suddenly realised I was looking at something in the kitchen I recognised so I asked - ‘is that a Gozney Dome Pizza Oven ? ‘ The attentive chef/ owner replied ‘YES! - it used to be in my garden - actually all these grills used to be in my garden - that’s how all this started actually ‘ I must go and find he back story - But I’m guessing that this brilliant cook was entertaining friends regularly with his amazing food, reached the height of his powers and then was finally persuaded to start a venture doing the thing he loved the most - cooking food for us lucky lot with Wood, Coal and a great big slab of love.. I came home and told my wife it was in the top 3 roasts I’d ever eaten in a restaurant and being 50 and loving English roasts since I was old enough to eat them , that’s quite a statement This week, the more I’ve thought about - I think it’s number 1 .., Please book - I heard the staff and owner discussing the numbers turned away on our visit - It’s not cheap, and nor should it be - Experiences that stay with you never are, but if you are in two minds, let me assure you - the smell of well cooked food mixed with primal love we all have of woodsmoke is just the beginning and I can’t remember a time I’ve paid a resultant bill so happily

This place was smokin! We went early on a Friday night to check it out. We ordered 6 small plates which was more than enough. Of them I think the trout crudo, charred cabbage and pork belly stood out. The place uses wood fire for cooking and it shows. I caught glimpse of the larger chicken dish and wish I'd ordered it. Oh well, next visit. Oh yes, and I was pleasantly surprised by the price.

Love, love, LOVE this place. It had popped up on recommendations a few times and finally managed to visit over easter weekend for their famous roast. And we all know how subjective a roast dinner is to the average brit... But genuinely it was all delicious. (I only wish I took more/better photos to demonstrate that) We had the sharing dish between 3 of us, and there was more than enough extras to take home after. Huge slices of beef and pork, lamb sausages and plenty of veg. Unexpected surprise was the clarified Bloody Mary. Hesitant at first but it was beautiful!

It's just okay. Ultimately this place should be all about delicous sharing platters cooked over fire. The platters weren't unattractive but the main elements, the protein, weren't good. Two sea bream fillets for 2 people is too little, particularly when they're limp - although quite tasty (credit to the bream). Just cook 2 whole bream and let diners tuck into the whole fish - bream is really good value at the moment. Potatoes were crispy and the vegetables felt well cooked although a few burnt items loitered. The lamb was thinly sliced and pallid - not great by any standard (again serve a big delicious cut on the bone please) and the rice pudding was fine. It all felt a bit tired and perhaps aimed at the weekend Brighton visitor rather than people that would go back. Felt quite flat.

Absolutely love Embers. Used to visit when we lived in London, now we've moved here (not just because of Embers!) and it's great it's a local for us. Im veggie and my wife isn't and it's one of those places that just has incredible, imaginative, tasty food that happens to cater to all - no 'veggie option' reluctantly put on the bottom of a menu (drives me mad) just healthy well sourced food, much of which actually happens to be veggie. Fab service, good drinks menu too - a real gem (I'm almost reluctant to be so glowing as it might get mobbed but Benjamin and the team totally deserve to be a full on success)

The food was absolutely amazing! Everything was delicious, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. We went to celebrate Mother’s Day and at the end of the meal the waiter gave me this little cake in a beautiful box as a total surprise. Such a lovely thoughtful touch. If you love veggies (and their broccoli is 10/10) I’d recommend asking for an additional portion as you get 1 tender-stem broccoli each and one carrot. Still so much food on the plate to share, you won’t leave hungry! I left a message on the booking to explain that we would be bringing a baby in a pram and also rang ahead to double check with was okay and they accommodated us on table seating rather than bar stool seating. Thanks for a great meal!

I've had the roast twice now and it just gets better and better! Prepare your taste buds for a culinary masterpiece at the town's best Sunday roast spot. From the moment the plate arrives, you're greeted with a symphony of aromas. The flavors are nothing short of extraordinary, with each bite revealing a harmonious blend of succulent meats and rich gravy that's practically a work of art. Thank you, Dave for this beautiful roast. The cauliflower puree is a creamy delight, while the charred broccoli adds a satisfying crunch. The carrots are cooked to perfection, offering a hint of sweetness that balances the savory goodness of the meal. And let's not forget the star of the show – the rosties, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, they're simply divine. Now, onto the pièce de résistance – the Three Beast Feast. Prepare to be wowed by the tender pork loin, the melt-in-your-mouth beef, and the flavorful lamb sausage. Each element brings its own unique character to the table, ensuring every palate is thoroughly satisfied. In conclusion, if you're in search of a Sunday roast experience that transcends the ordinary, look no further. Embers has mastered the art of the roast, delivering a meal that's nothing short of unforgettable.

I can only echo some of the bad experiences at this restaurant as it appears that we had exactly the same experience with I'm guessing exactly the same manager - We turned up for a 1.5 hr booking which sounds like a perfectly adequate amount of time to enjoy a meal. Didnt even think much more about it as we were on time and ordered the entire meal as soon as we got there - ordered the recommended amount by the waitress. 3 hungry men we did not hang about but the plates came out on their own time... As with others who have commented - it was almost impossible to catch the attention of the waitresses we were in a booth and it was clearly a blindspot for them, but moreover noone was scanning tables to look for anyone trying to catch their attention. With regards to the food I can only say the food was average - most dishes were let down by attempts to distinguish the dishes with inventive flavours which ultimately didnt work and some poor execution - a good example being the carrots which were perfectly cooked but had a cream cheese like sauce that evoked a carrot cake/icing sort of flavour which I thought was a great idea initially but ultimately didnt taste nice in the context of the meal. The wagyu was deplete of marbling and was not a nice cut and didnt have good enough sear to carry the very rare meat which without the marbling did not 'melt' as you would like it to The smokiness that this restaurants wants to be known for isnt finding its way onto the meat - The potato dish is just very bad mash potato ineffectively seasoned with fried potato peel on it mind boggling why this is on the menu - the lamb/sausage was very nice but had dry overcooked liver alongside - I like liver but this just left the worst taste - which was why I was eagerly anticipating dessert as the lingering flavour was the last bite I had as noone else at the table would eat any more of it. By the time the last dishes were collected it was 17 minutes before our time was up and we were eagerly looking for some desserts as the portions are very small, we were told before we even had a chance to ask that we no longer had time for dessert and asked if we would like the bill. We were stunned. we asked if we could even have coffees and were told no. The manager was brought over who was standoffish, & passive aggressive and made no attempts to apologise or offer any conciliation whatsoever. Not even a token attempt at 'sorry guys no time for full desserts but we could do some coffees or a scoop of ice cream but we need the table' - no empathy no conciliation, just clearly demonstrating that he thought he was entirely in the right and that we were to leave. A token gesture of sympathy could have completely de-escalated what turned into an entirely infuriating experience - instead we had a very passive aggressive 'would you like the bill?' knowing full-well this was not at all what we would have liked. Considering we had ordered the entire meal as soon as we got there, the only factor that led to this situation was the time the kitchen took to prepare the food and get it onto the table - so why are you offering 1.5hr slots if you know full well you cant complete a meal in this time. And why arent you warning people ahead of time? And why didnt your staff come around before the meal was finished and ask if there were any desserts required before it had become too late? This interaction ruined the entire evening out with friends and the experience I had in this restaurant was one of the worst I have ever had. I think without the awful interaction with the manager tainting the entire meal I probably would have still had a positive view of the place overlooking the other shortcomings. But as it stands I can only recommend you avoid this place as it appears to be pot luck as to whether you will have your night ruined. We were turfed out into the rain to wander the streets looking for somewhere to find a dessert. Thankfully Brighton isn't short of fantastic restaurants. This unfortunately isn't one of them.

We happened upon this place whilst aimlessly wandering round the lanes in Brighton. It said BBQ so it immediately got our attention. We managed to get a seat straight away at around 1700. It kinda reminds me of some of our favourite restaurants in Bruges, where they cook on an open fire. They have multiple open fires for different purposes where they cook all the food. As suggested, we ordered 3 small plates and one big one. It was a good amount of food and it really was delicious. I'd describe it as bbqed fine dining. We were given seats at the bar around the kitchen, initially we were a bit concerned to not have a table but actually sitting there was so much better. We got a great view and were able to watch all the dishes being prepared. Which was really fascinating. We were able to see just how hard they work, which they really do! Also of note were the mocktails, as they have a full bar with a dedicated cocktail guy who did an amazing job. Looking forward to going back.

Embers is a fine dining restaurant in Brighton with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The menu changes seasonally, but you can always expect to find “dishes that deliver punchy yet contrasting flavour combinations”: creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. One of the things that makes Embers unique is their use of fire. The kitchen has a grill, with a wood-fired oven that gives the food a smoky, charred flavor. You can taste this throughout the menu. The service at Embers is amazing. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, and they make you feel like you're in good hands. You can truly tell that everyone working there is passionate. Overall, Embers is a fantastic restaurant that offers a truly special dining experience. It's the perfect place to go for a special occasion or a romantic evening. Having been a chef for most of my previous life we eat out a fair amount in Brighton and some of the best renowned eateries do not challenge Embers for food quality and execution. Great ingredients combined in dishes that work with a focus on flavour. Excellent food, service and drinks. We had a table of 3 on a Sunday evening and ordered around 6 or 7 plates and one large centrepiece of a whole brill. All of the dishes were well cooked and presented modern tapas style and the whole Brill was grilled to perfection, cookery of the fish was spot on and perfectly boned and presented. Embers was a really special experience. We were sitting on the kitchen bar stools so we got all the sights and smells of the chefs as they prepared their sublime wood fired food. We had all vegan and gluten free options including the large mushroom dish which they edited so we were able to have it. It was all amazing. No weak links. Will absolutely come here again in the new year.

The roast is truly phenomenal…we’ve been twice now and have our third reservation already confirmed!! We always have the 3 beast feast roast to share, the meat quality is top notch, the flavour combinations, the wood fire taste, the veg and potatoes….just all amazing! Go as soon as you can

I was slightly worried that if everything was chargrilled the food might start to taste a bit same-y but was very pleasantly surprised; each dish had a very distinctive flavour combination and I'd go back in a second. The meat eaters were all very happy and the veggie food was not only delicious, but had actual protein in it which sometimes feels a bit rare in restaurants. The service was absolutely fantastic, the staff are all very knowledgeable about the food, put a lot of effort into making sure all the different food needs were catered for, and their suggested wine pairings were lovely.

I’m sorry to say that the food is over described but underwhelming. As an example, bonfire potato Is actually a bowl of mediocre mash. It’s served as a small plate but who wants that? The pork rib was ok but we couldn’t find any wow factor. The burnt leak stood out in our first 3 dishes. It was tasty but that’s about it. The chicken drumstick was very good. Cooked perfectly, very juicy but again it’s a chicken leg. The lambs liver was good too. Prawns were ok, one was under cooked and our cheese on toast dish was stone cold so we had to get another one. In fact, it was only the chicken leg and the lamb that were actually hot when we got them. So, why am I writing this? It’s because we were excited to try this new stylish restaurant with enticingly described food on a rare Friday night out but we came away disappointed and we both agreed that we wouldn’t head back. Very expensive for the food we had. Excellent tequila cocktail Very nice Red wine too. So, to the owners, management and chefs at embers, do a little better with the food and you might be onto a winner. It’s a tough industry and the details are so important but the food is why people will come. Make that the best it can be.

The lamb ribs are delicious we always have a portion each and I sometimes take a portion home with me! Honestly you’re gonna want to try every dish on the menu. Seriously good grilled food. Oh and the rolo dessert is insanely good too make sure to leave room. The service and cocktails are pretty amazing too. Highly recommend you try them. UPDATE DEC 2023 went for a roast AND…. STOP✋🛑what you’re doing. This is one of those moments when you stare at the screen trying to figure out what’s on the plate. It’s a 4 meat beast, that’s what it is: Pork with crackling, beef, turkey, lamb + mint sausages. Honestly there’s nothing else that’s come close to this, in my opinion, the quality and care that’s gone into the meat is second to none. Every element was so well executed even down to the big jug of gravy which was unbelievable, layers upon layers of meat juices. There’s a creamy cauli cheese puree too tucked under the veggies. I’ve only ever given one place a 10/10 in 23 years of living in Brighton and this blows it out the water. Genius. So much attention to detail on flavour. Highly recommend you give it a go. We’re definitely going back asap. There’s magical crack dust on the potatoes too. Thanks Embers, 👏 quality!

Fabulous three beast roast meat feast with the best roast potatoes ever. Lovely atmosphere with all the meat and veg being cooked in an open kitchen over an open flame. Attentive staff, nice wine and beer selection. Highly recommended if you’re a meat eater. Didn’t test at the veg options but they looked and sounded almost as good as the meat.

This was my second time at Embers (18/11/23), this time on a date for my girlfriend’s birthday (first time with a group of friends) and I’ll definitely be back in the future. The food is excellent, the ambience lovely and the servers enthusiastic and welcoming. All in all another great experience, thanks for making it a lovely evening for us both!

An absolute triumph of a restaurant. Cleverly balanced plates with bold punchy flavours with wood fires and smoke being used in some imaginative ways. Sit at the counter to see how the experts prepare your meal and be warned about food envy - we had to order the skillet potatoes with our dessert after being seated near that section! Service was thoughtful and attentive and even on a cold mid November Friday evening the place was buzzing. A must go if you're in Brighton!

The wine list is also refreshingly different from the norm. Top work and well done to all involved, now stop reading this and make a booking!

Really didn't want to leave a five star review for Ember as I want to keep this place secret. We had Sunday lunch today. We chose the roast pork shoulder which was wonderful. The front of house team were great and it was fun to watch the team cook our lunch from the chef's counter which was amazing....along with the Rolo desert. Definitely recommended. We have booked for a larger group next month.

Have been meaning to go for a while. Took my wife as a 6 month married surprise. Great bar seat where we could watch cooking and chat to the lovely cocktail maker. Everything was perfect and surpassed expectations. Food, service, atmosphere. We will certainly be back and take our old London friends when they come down and visit.

Incredible first time experience at Embers. Cannot fault the service, and ambience. The food was so delicious, the veg just as special as the meat dishes over fire. The bartender was particularly impressive also, and everyone was very friendly. Cannot wait to come back for the Sunday roast and to bring friends!

Just had the pleasure of the sharing roast at Embers, the three beast feast and what a great dining experience! The food was excellent, portion size was perfect. Service is friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was chilled and very pleasant. Had a mini vegetarian with us and they were catered for brilliantly. Drinks and cocktails were also top notch. Highly recommended booking a table here.
