Probably the best Sunday roast I've had. My partner and I had heard good things, but if anything those were understatements. Staff were chipper and service was friendly and attentive without being fussy or overbearing. The food was absolutely sublime; the meat was tender and delicious, but the veg and roast potatoes (so often what lets restaurant roasts down) were as good as I've ever had. Even had room for a cheeky rhubarb creme brulee, which was a delicious end to the meal. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Absolutely fantastic in every way. Great service, Ilka and Lyndon went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. Lovely atmosphere, our party ranged in age from 22 to 85 abd everyone had a good time. Fantastic food - couldn't fault anything, it was all delicious and cooked to perfection. Special mention for the cocktails - the Cadillac margarita in particular was the best I've ever had. Can't wait to go again!

Had an absolutely gorgeous meal for our anniversary. As a coeliac (who's also lactose intolerant & allergic to shellfish!) I don't have much luck with restaurants, there tends to be one dish I can eat on the menu (that's IF I'm lucky! There's plenty of places we just can't go to!). This was amazing - we had 7 dishes we could both share equally - with a couple of tweaks they were happy to make - even without that I'd have had a choice, which is almost unheard of! It's long annoyed me that I don't have access to the same choices as other when we eat out, just for the want of a couple of small substitutions on a menu which make little/no diff to flavour - the menu was well thought through & delicious, even though it's changed regularly! All the small plates were perfectly planned and executed - 'small plates' can sometimes be a bit of an incoherent mishmash but this was a succession of taste bombs one after the other. The lamb & bonito were outrageously good. We had an absolutely cracking meal - staff were attentive, cheery and careful with my food requests. Will definitely be back!

Wow!!! What a wonderful restaurant. Had the most delicious take on a vegan Caesar salad and the most delicious vegetarian Sunday roast. No nut roast here - a large oven roasted onion stuffed with mashed potato and leek with a fantastic array of oven roasted vegetables, Yorkshire pudding etc. Really tremendous cooking. Sat at the bar which I didn’t normally like but as the kitchen is behind the bar you watch everything you are about to eat being cooked in front of you.

We visited Brighton for the weekend and stumbled on reviews for the Sunday Roast at Embers, we are so glad we did! It's a lovely small restaurant with such a friendly welcome and service, and the food was incredible. We both commented that it's probably the best roast we've ever tried (both British, so lots of roast dinner experience!). The wood charred veggies were delicious, amazing gravy, crispiest potatoes, and excellent cuts of meat (we had the 3 beasts platter). The photo doesn't really do it justice, but generous portion sizes and very high quality ingredients, would highly recommend and we hope to come back soon!

Like so many highly rated Brighton restaurants, it’s not as good as it appears. The service was great - full credit due - and the restaurant is nicely styled. It did however suffer from that bizarre Brighton issue being unbelievably cold, remarkable given this place has an open grill but we left chilled to the bone. The food was also typically Brighton, good in parts but not consistent. It started well with some good cooking but then went sadly downhill. The mackerel dish was frankly poor, poorly prepared fish, undercooked and served with coconut cream - the Thai green curry completely absent - such that it really did not work. Ditto the venison dish. We’d not revisit and the positive reviews suggest other punters are choosing style over substance.

Embers is a favourite for me. I recently went back for the second time & have to say that their customer service is second to none. The previous customers at our table were just finishing up at our booked time, the staff gave us complimentary bubbles for the inconvenience. On Sunday, I had the pleasure of dining at Embers in Brighton, following the recommendation of a dear friend and fellow Chef. As a professional in the restaurant industry and the owner of an Italian restaurant in Lancing, I can confidently say that the experience was simply extraordinary. From the very first moment, the warm and impeccable welcome set the tone for the evening. The service was attentive, professional, and never intrusive. The staff demonstrated a deep knowledge of the menu, providing recommendations with passion and precision. And the food? Simply divine. Every dish was an explosion of flavors, prepared with fresh, top-quality ingredients. The attention to detail and the flawless execution of each recipe made every course an unforgettable experience. From the starters to the dessert, everything was perfectly balanced and harmonious, a testament to a kitchen run with passion and expertise. The restaurant’s atmosphere is warm, inviting, and refined—perfect for a special dinner or a memorable occasion. Embers is not just a restaurant; it’s a sensory journey that deserves to be experienced. Congratulations to the entire team for their outstanding excellence! I can’t wait to return. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended!

Went for Sunday Roast recently. Food was fine, although nothing was particularly remarkable unlike some of the other establishments doing open flame. Still unsure on the cauliflower cheese puree. That was perhaps the most interesting part of the food. Yorkshire felt it had better days and I’d have been aggrieved at paying for an extra one. The beef was decent. The service was remarkable though, and frankly extremely poor. On arrival unacknowledged until someone had finished faffing around and dealt with another party and it set the standard from there. It’s entirely disorganised, and we were served by 4 or 5 people. Only one of which was particularly attentive. Some of the staff seemed to think they’re doing you a favour getting condiments (even though some were still forgotten) and getting a drink. No one came to see if we’d like another drink after 45 minutes, no one came to check if the food was ok. Fortunately we didn’t opt for dessert but after waiting 50 minutes for food, we’d probably be pushing it time-wise with a two hour booking. Ultimately the food is let down by poor service.

Seated on the bar, my fiancée and I had a phenomenal view of the kitchen that left us totally engrossed and heavily anticipating our meal. With the aroma of woodsmoke and sizzling meats and vegetables, we would have ordered everything on the menu if we'd had room! Drinks were excellent, house cocktails are definitely worth sampling, but the real stars of the show are all of the carefully attended dishes cooked over open flame. The steak was phenomenal, but seeing whole plaice turned out of the oven, and perfectly pink racks of lamb being carved up right in front of us left us second guessing our order until the last moment! Don't skimp on the small plates either! Some of the best roasted carrots atop a gorgeous dahl. A really excellent night. Thank you, Embers!

We went to this restaurant for dinner on a Sunday with a reservation for 7 people, made more than a week in advance. Upon arrival, we were informed that all the food would be brought out together in the center of the table. One of the main issues was that most of our group wanted to order the pork belly, but we were only told it was unavailable when we were about to order—not when we were handed the menus. Given that our reservation had been made so far in advance, we expected better planning and enough stock, especially for a group booking. When the food arrived, the portions were quite disappointing. We had ordered 7 roasts, but the amount served was simply not enough, and most of us left feeling hungry. The beef was good, but the rest of the dish was underwhelming. For instance, the cauliflower purée that was supposed to accompany the meal barely amounted to two spoonfuls in total for seven people. Considering the price we paid, we expected a much better meal. There were also other details that affected our experience. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM and it felt like they were running out of food and just serving whatever they had left. However, considering how far in advance we had booked, they should have been much better organized. Recommendation: If you decide to visit, it might be best to go in a small group of two or three people to ensure the portions are enough. Also, consider dining earlier to avoid missing out on menu items.

The storm was blowing and the rain falling, we had not booked but as we expected the weather kept people away. What a find, Sunday Roast with a difference. We were given two seats at the bar, brilliant position being able to watch the barman work his magic and the chef’s cooking on open fires. Aperitif cocktails were excellent, full of flavour and well presented. Sunday roast is served on one sharing plate, a mountain of food, grilled veg, cauliflower cheese purée, roast potatoes to die for and of course the meat, plenty of choice. Wine is available by the glass, carafe or bottle. The plate was cleared every mouthful enjoyed to the end. Leave room for the desert, Bakewell tart with homemade raspberry sorbet. The staff are all friendly and helpful, it is a small restaurant so book to make sure you are not disappointed.

This was the second time I have been. The last time about a year ago was sadly the sadly but I wanted to give it a second chance as others had told me they thought it was good (although one person recently had the Wagu beef and was very disappointed), much like other reviews to be fair. To start with it was a freezing night but that doesn't mean I should have to sit at a freezing table, literally. Not only by the draft from the front door constantly opening but also from a cold draft from the wall. We were moved to a 'booth' at the back that while it had a radiator was equally cold. There was one server (not our main one) who ended up offering a blanket but frankly in an indoor restaurant that was not OK. When we stood up to leave the head height was indeed warm so it was clearly a draft from below which made sense given the radiator was at head height. The initial server, while very pleasant was incredibly slow. Our initial small plates / sides took over 30 mins to arrive and when they did came out in an order that meant they were eaten before the meat arrived. The plates were literally cold and when we served the food onto the plates it became cold on the outside. We had to ask twice when the meat (steak and pork) was arriving. When it did the steak was both tough and chewy (Sussex tenderloin) but pork fine. We didn't stay for desert as were genuinely cold and fed up with the speed of food and quality. One redeeming part was a male server who went above and beyond to try and rectify things. He was the one that actively moved us, actively went and got a blanket and actively kept checking on us. He was a credit to the service industry. Overall gave it two chances and thats enough. My rating is 3 for food as it was average, 2 for service and those stars were both for the male server and 2 for atmosphere because it was freezing. The ambience is great both times. Just an honest review, only the second I have made as I only do it when its great or poor.

Embers was the perfect meal to end the year on.The crispy sprouts were sublime and I would never normally choose them. The molasses cured pork collar was the best savoury dish of the night. The wagyu special, tenderstem and bonfire potato with burnt ends were a great main. For afters, the truffle cheese on toast accompanied the rolo dessert perfectly and the rolo dessert was one of my favourites of all time. A top quality meal in the cosy heart of the Brighton Lanes.

Somewhat cosy restaurant in the cold. Don’t sit by the door! We had the December early menu. And this is very good deal at 50% off as long as you order a full price drink. The food we chose was mackerel, sea bream, venison, pork shoulder and burnt bits potato. Overall the sea bream was excellent. The ceviche was done very nicely. The mackerel was very odd, under seasoned and with a slightly sweet cream mouse. It was not nice. The venison had so much salt in it and also with a salty teriyaki glaze it needed to be mixed with a vegetable dish really. Pork shoulder was delicately glazed and tender. The burnt bits mash potato was very balanced. So we were told by the rather causal female server that we would get all our dishes together as we order the sharing plates. This didn’t happen. So I was personally left with cold venison while I waited on the next dish to mix it with something less salty like the mash. It was too concentrated in flavour to eat by itself. I think it’s prudent to ask the server and confirm some order you want things in and make sure the server keeps to that. Having mackerel come out after super concentrated salty flavour venison. Was not ideal.

So, I've been to many high end restaurants around Europe and received excellent food and service, so I had high expectations for this place... Tried out this Restaurant for me and my partners 2nd Anniversary as we did some research for a new restaurant to try out. We booked an 8:15pm slot under occasion "anniversary" as the website gives you the option to specify upon booking... (means nothing) which I'll get on to... We arrived a few minutes before our allocated time of (8:15) only to arrive with our table not ready, I understand, Saturday, busy vibe, busy service... However, where our table was located behind the kitchen area there was tables which were unallocated. So, I beg the question why we had to remain standing a few minutes at the front. Staff reacted almost like "oh, you've booked with us?!" It felt very messy... not prepared at all. Once we were seated, we were greeted by one of the waiters who asked if we'd been here before, we stated "no, it's our first time in which we're celebrating our 2nd anniversary together" - upon saying this... the waiter seemed over joyed, very happy to hear that we came here to spend this special occasion. Upon reviewing the menu for several minutes before the waiter returned, we decided on the Olives, £51 Steak for two with TWO other plates, Potatoes & Carrots. He informed us in his words "6 dishes is ideal" - We ordered just the 3 dishes (excluding olives) because we didn't know the portion size so we considered sharing, neither was specified by the waiter, however we didn't ask him... though for our first time, which we specified, I feel it'd incredibly vital to make it clear to your customers what you're ordering with confidence, there's no harm in telling us for example, I recommend going for 6 dishes as our portions are on the smaller side, nearing à la carte size. To me, that would've been reassuring to us. Are they ashamed to tell customers they're portion sizes?! Really odd... The waiter took our order which was a bottle of wine and a passionfruit cocktail.... 15 minutes later drinks hadn't arrived, then another waiter attended to us and asked us what drinks we ordered. We stated again, what we ordered with the other waiter. So then additionally we waited another 5 minutes, that's 20 odd minutes just to receive drinks, completely disgusting service. Food came around 40 minutes later which is unacceptable, even for a busy Saturday evening, without an apology either. Thankfully the Food was incredibly good and had an amazing array of flavours which made up for the terrible service. Just when you things couldn't get worse... We asked for the bill to ANOTHER waiter, only to receive a bill of £150+ which shocked us. On further close inspection, we saw they charged us TWICE for the Bottle of Wine & Cocktail. The 3rd waiter who gave us our bill, said "is everything good with the bill guys?" We abruptly said No, absolutely not, there's been a mistake, and stated the obvious... upon conveying this to her, we recieved the oddest sarcastic response which I can't quite remember what was specified, perhaps her strong accent made it inaudible but it certainly wasn't an apology which is disgusting and she made it loud so other nearby customers could hear. So they almost charged us £50 more than what our bill was! - this was amended after we explained it. But I can't get my head around a high class restaurant like Embers, that they can't give a sincere apology or offer a complimentary service e.g (dessert) or remove an item from the bill, just to make your customers feel wanting to come back. We left bitterly disappointed with the service we received but enjoyed the food. Though saying that. These two things go hand in hand, you need good service and good food to make us want to come back. That won't be us unfortunately.

Over-rated and disappointing!! Not too much taste from the dishes, no care when serving and they seemed rushed. Cocktails were good. Better places in Brighton for small plates etc. I would not recommend or return.

Finally got to try this meat restaurant that I have heard so much about it since it opened! The location is great , tucked away in the lanes . We sat at the bar and were very well looked after , all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and was nice to see the banter between them behind the bar . Also great to see the meat being cooked on the coals . We shared a few dishes including the pork tomahawk and lamb loin chop , the meat was cooked to perfection and was so tender that pretty much melt in the mouth . The side dishes to go with the meat we found to be a let down , we had the potato salad and the charred broccoli and really nothing to shout about. We thought they could add more /better side dishes to go with the excellent meat as we thought the choice was a bit dull . Unfortunately we were too full for dessert but we saw the rolo dessert going past and thought it looked very decadent. The wine list we thought it was very pricey for what it was, we recognised a few names on the list that we have purchased before , particularly the English sparkling wine that happened to be the one we regularly buy and the mark up was very high , of course in a restaurant you ll always pay a lot more than in a wine cellar shop but I’m talking about 3/4 times the price tag . We had a fabulous evening and we look forward to go back to try their famous Sunday roasts.

Wow! Best Sunday roast ever. This place is a gem. The staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and you can instantly tell they are happy which always makes such a difference in the work place. Valerie was just instantly likeable and her service was top notch. Watching the chefs cook and plate up the food was just delightful and they all did it with a smile. I cannot wait to return and try the small plates.

Very cool restaurant with very efficient knowledgeable staff. I love ‘small plates’ especially when in a group as you get to try so many dishes. Every dish we had was exceptionally good. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Brighton.

Booked dinner for 2 on a Friday night, saw lots of good reviews so very excited but left a bit disappointed unfortunately. I understand it's a busy night and they might be understaffed or whatever and that we should expect a wait with the food but we didn't get our drinks until we had been sitting there for an hour already. And our first dishes not for another 45 minutes after that. We were compensated for this at the end but unfortunately the food fell short as well. The duck leg was tasty and full of flavour but was dry and a bit tough. The veal was underwhelming and lacked flavour. The best dish by far was the short rib however which was delicious and melted in your mouth. Furthermore when booking they ask if it's for a special occasion, which it was, but nothing extra was done in the end, so we were wondering why bother asking when taking reservations? The ambience was good however and the service itself was friendly. Perhaps on a different night things would've been smoother.

We rarely go out for a meal so it was important for us to pick something that's great. Embers has mostly great reviews and we really liked the menu and the concept behind Embers. We really wanted to like Embers, but I'm afraid the name felt a bit misleading - as unfortunately a lot of the food (especially the meats) we had were cold. The staff kindly discounted our bill to meet us halfway but I have to say it's overall a disappointing experience especially for a restaurant in this price range. Good news is - this is something that the restaurant can easily fix (with heated plates for example), I'll happily give the place a second try if they address this.

We hand a really wonderful time here. It is the perfect spot to treat yourself with lovely dinner. My bf loved the pork tomahawk, while my favorite was the 1/4 roasted chicken. The cocktails were also lovely. The staff was very attentive and professional.

Arrived 4 min late and we were told that we would not be served. Did phone in 1h prior to inform that our concert was running late. They said be there 9:45-10:00 and you are good, arrived 10:04. That's almost fair but a tad red tapist. The main concern was the Gentleman chef who informed us in a very uncharming and unfriendly way when we arrived, even though we were very apologetic and friendly towards all staff. Looks like a cool place, hope they take our review constructive, as it is ment. Kind wishes Henrik

What a gem of a place! Tucked away in the Lanes, Embers offers up small plates with everything being cooked over coals. The food is absolutely delicious. Our stand-outs were an amazing wagyu steak that was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and just melted in our mouths, and the mackerel fillet that came with a fiery vindaloo sauce and a tangy gooseberry compote. This flavour combination was superb! Service was faultless too. Our waitress was really friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the food on offer. Oh, and don't forget to check out the cheeky little cocktail menu too... I'd definitely recommend eating here!

Great menu of diverse flavours with a strong emphasis on woodfired, charcoal, and grilled. Standout was the tomatoes (so crisp and delicious) and the ox tongue tacos.

Shared plates but the restaurant struggled with consistency & timing and we were ultimately left dissatisfied. We had a fantastic tomato salad, but the sea trout had too little flavour while a cold potato salad, tasting strongly of smoke/räksallad, had too much, overwhelming a more delicate cut of waygu x sussex beef when the two inexplicably turned up together. At the end, we ordered bread because we were still hungry, which was a disappointing way to fill up. The wine was meh. We went elsewhere for dessert: by this point they were really slowing down. I saw the hard work Embers put in; we really wanted to like it, but the consistency simply wasn’t there. Frankly, I was surprised by their inclusion in the Michelin guide.

Great restaurant that offer small plates and "showpiece" dishes. Welcoming and attentive staff who explain the concept and told us exactly how much we should order and their recommendation was spot on. All the food was delicious with the charcoal flavours at the heart of everything. Only one criticism...my corn Taco was a bit tough/stale so it collapsed as soon as I picked up my Taco. But other than that small blip, all the dishes were absolutely mouthwatering. Our fav was the caramelised pork belly and the vindaloo Mackrell! Not to forget the Cocktails which are clearly well thought out and made with a bit of passion (and fire)!! We shall most certainly be back.

A lovely experience for me and the wife on our first date night after having a baby. A very chilled and relaxed atmosphere with rustic, industrial type decor. We were given a cosy table, ‘The Snug’, which was perfect. The cocktails were great and we loved the style of the menu. All the food we had was delicious with my favourite being the pork tomahawk, it was cooked to perfection! The Lamb was delicious too, and the Rolo dessert was to die for! So rich and indulgent. The service was great, everyone was lovely and accommodating and we’ll definitely return and try another seasons menu. Unfortunately didn’t get any photos of the food as we were too excited to try everything!

Me and a group of friends had been walking around for ages trying to find a somewhere to eat and stumbled upon this and so glad we did ! Great coffee ( my husband is a little bit of a coffee snob so it’s a great complement) and the breakfast menu was lovely such variety and great flavour! Staff were lovely and chatty ! Small and good. No seating inside but they have three small tables outside. Many just take the boxes along to seat somewhere else.
