Semola in Brighton and Hove

Refused to serve us, as we needed a table for 7, In spite of having empty tables. They told us kitchen was closing even though it was only 1/2 an hour after opening!!?? We live in Hove and like to try new places, but this won't be one of them.

Spontaneously went here on a little date night and we will definitely come back. Amazing and delicious food (especially the tiramisu as a dessert) and great selection of wines. Loved the staff/service and very reasonable prices as well. Can only recommend!

We’ve been completely blown away by this restaurant tonight… Out of any restaurant we have EVER been to, this has made us feel the most uplifted, overjoyed and pleasantly surprised, we didn’t realise it would be this good. The service was very welcoming and warm, but the food… it was on another level. If you love proper Italian food this beats anywhere in Brighton and Hove, easily. We even believe it was better than our recent trip to Rome and any of the restaurants we went to there - truly fantastic. Thank you very much to the staff, the love and energy you put into making the food is very clear, it’s rare to find such passion at a restaurant. It reminded me of when my Grandma (who was an Italian chef) would cook us beautiful food. Bravo!

So cosy and a lovely atmosphere (doesn’t look much like the pictures above anymore haha)! All the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had meat eaters and vegans in the group and both had plenty of options. Can I just say that was the BEST vegan pasta sauce I’ve had in a long time, would absolutely recommend!

We were told an hour wait, but the waiter at the door told us if we returned in 45minutes he’d have a table for us. We went for a drink and returned but I couldn’t recommend anything better. Really good food, it is defo worth booking and if it wasn’t our last night I’d come again. Book in advance

Nothing to fault. Pasta is undeniably authentic. My advice is to make a reservation as Semola gets full quickly due to limited tables.

Had been several time before and ordered the same starter as always the burrata di bufala always came with flatbread but now served without so ordered some plain pizza at a cost of £7 very disappointing

Great restaurant, only a few tables. Got recommended by a client at work. Had the courgette and salmon sauce pasta special and it was superb. We got seated straight away even though we hadn't booked. Both members of staff we spoke to were very friendly. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. Prices were also excellent.

Superb, from the moment my friend and l entered. Charming owners welcome (and cook) for you, from an extensive menu and excellent wine list. We had a different chef's special each, swapped halfway to see if we enjoyed them each. We did! Salmon with spaghetti, sliced cooked cucumber and cheese, and stunningly tasty rounds of beef in a rich butter and herb sauce, with neatly sliced warm focaccia. A simple, lovely decor, linen cloths and napkins - very light background music. We had complimentary olives and, after a bottle of rosé and dessert, also complimentary Limoncello. A lovely experience, and we'll be regular visitors from now on.

Everything about this small restaurant is absolutely spot on: the decor, the staff, the food and the wine list - it’s all just as you would wish. We started with two antipasto platters which were easily enough for the six of us. We followed with Fusilli Arrabbiata, seafood risotto and one of the evening specials - braised beef ravioli, all of which got rave reviews. The house wine was terrific, both red and white wines went down well and are reasonably priced. The service provided by all members of staff was expert and attentive and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Booking is essential and I’d recommend a visit as soon as possible. This place is a must visit! The chef himself came out to tell us about the specials, which absolutely did not disappoint. The fresh pasta was perfect and the sauces where out of this world 🍝

Been wanting to come here for a while as had heard great things, and it didn’t disappoint!!! Super lovely staff, delicious fresh and delicious pasta. We had squid ink linguine, creamy mushroom fusilli and focaccia bread to share. Really generous portions and reasonable prices. Lovely in the restaurant and very clean toilets. Can’t fault it and will be back for sure!

Wow an incredible meal with people who care about their food and service! Their pasta home made is exactly like being in Italy there chocolate fondant is one of the best I’ve ever tried. What a find! Suggested by our host, we had a fabulous meal. Amazing flavours, excellent pasta and fabulous orange sorbet. An evening to remember. Highly recommend.

Lovely food, friendly staff, cosy setting

It doesn't happen often that we return to Brighton but every time the occasion leads us to visit the British town it is a pleasure to return to Semola to rediscover the courtesy, friendliness and professionalism with which we are welcomed and served every time. We recommend everyone to try Luca's specialties at least once or taste the wonderful Italian desserts

My girlfriend & I visited Semola on a cold Monday evening (having booked) & it was very busy. We had a lovely table by the window (table 2) & the 2 servers/managers were both very friendly & happily explained the specials & made sure we were happy throughout the meal. I had Linguine Meatballs (see the pic) & my girlfriend Risotto Contadina. Both were lovely tasting with quality ingredients. I had the Napolitean Baba (Rum Baba) for dessert & it was better than I was expecting, having never had it before. I've NEVER had a bad meal here in the 6 times I've eaten here with various people, so consistency is good. The Aubergine & Bacon pasta in white wine sauce that I've had several times previously here is off the chart (for reference!!)

We had dinner on the 11th of January .We started with a mix of Italian salumi for two ,all of them were sliced at the moment and believe me the quality was outstanding. We then continued with Ink squid Linguine and risotto alla Milanese,they both were delicious. For dessert we had tiramisu and cannolo siciliano,again we could not found any faults with them. The manager then offered us a delicious limoncello when we asked for the bill and It was the perfect ending to a perfect evening. We definitely recommend this restaurant and we can’t wait to be back again soon. Ps we love the fact that the chef go around and explain the menu to the patrons, is a very nice touch. 👍

Visited here whilst down for a short break and liked the reviews I read. The maitre d was very obliging with accommodating food allergies and our fish main courses were lovely. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Whilst it costs marginally more to eat here compared to Otello it's definitely worth it!

Kept meaning to go here and finally did, took friends along for a festive meet up as we all love Italian food. We were not disappointed. Lovely fresh pastas and some decent wines too. Tiramisu to die for, great coffee to round off. This little restaurant is so far removed from the soulless Italian chains with its authentic dishes and the service was great, attentive and friendly. We will come back, grazie !

Hadn't been here before but will return. Efficient and helpful service. Excellent food and wine. Not cheap but good quality.

My partner and I have been coming to Semola for over a year now (on a very regular basis!) and it is our firm favourite Brighton/Hove restaurant. We always look forward to seeing Luca and Roberto, who always deliver the best Italian food and exceptional service. We have taken all of our friends and family to Semola, and they all express how fantastic the atmosphere is! If you love pasta and an authentic Italian dining experience, you seriously can’t go wrong with this place. We are sadly moving away from Hove and will miss this place terribly! Very tasty food but have a starter or bread as well, I needed a bigger meal. Good prices for Brighton and cooked fresh in your sight.

Family dinner, we brought our dog as well, and everything was amaizing! Food was great and staff were super attentive and helpful. Had the veggie lasagna and it was so tasty! Will definitely be back!

Best lasagne I've ever!! Had!!!!

Beautiful little restaurant. Service was friendly. There was at least a 30 minute wait between appetizers and main course, which was unfortunate. My meal was okay but my partner 's main was exceedingly spicy, inedible. When asked for a side of ricotta they did not offer it. They offered to make another main but we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for him to receive a meal. They comped his meal.

First time I have been to this restaurant and will certainly return . Could not fault it even on a Monday evening. Very attentive service and an extremely varied menu, five of us chose different things and were not disappointed.

Lovely ambience and good service. They make their own pasta and the pasta dishes are delicious. However, best to give the desserts a miss as they weren't great and weren't home made.

The best Italian food in Brighton

I want to try this restaurant because it has been told me that the pasta dishes there, are amazing. Well, I have to say that it's true but when I tried also the fish dishes, I was very pleased surprised. Freshness and test of an high category restaurant. Next time I will try meet dishes!

Best pasta I can remember having outside of Italy!

Great homemade pasta. I would recommend booking in advance if going for dinner. Would recommend tge squid-ink pasta, and don't forget some tiramissu for desert.

Just delightful … from the welcome to starter … main course and sweet! We took all the recommended dishes and wine and couldn’t be happier with the results. It’s a real gem in Hove.

What a wonderful and authentic restaurant. As an Italian host of an Italian meetup, I highly recommend this place! One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to! My partner and I visited Semola to celebrate my passing my PhD viva and it did not disappoint. From the excellent customer service from both front of house and kitchen staff to the incredible food we LOVED it! It was also extremely well priced. I had a special which was pesto and potato lasagne, whilst my partner had the seafood linguine. We also started with one of the sharing platters which I couldn’t recommend more! My only regret is that I was too full to try their desserts. I recommend booking as it’s extremely popular! Can’t wait to visit again!

It is good that the containment barrier is still in place. Handmade pasta is very chewy and delicious, whether it's pasta with tomato and seafood or pasta with cream of mushroom. It's a big portion. The owner was very friendly. The environment is nice and quiet.

The best Italian I've ever had. I came in from the US for a visit with my girlfriend and we happened on this place while we were wandering for something to eat. The atmosphere is perfect for a nice intimate dinner. And the food did not let down either. I don't remember the name exactly but we had the Fusilli with Piccante e Salsiccia and when I say that the portions were huge and the flavor extraordinary it doesn't do it justice. Its definitely the top of our date night list. Desserts and wine selection are amazing as well!

The food was excellent, the staff were delightful, and above all else the experience as a whole was second to none. The menu could do with some visual work, as there's spelling errors and looks a little dated, which would be the cherry on the cake. But the moment you walk through the door you're delivered a premium experience.

I became a regular customer since I discovered this amazing restaurant really close to Palmeira Square. Nice atmosphere, authentic italian food, excellent customer service. LUCA and  team are AMAZING!!! As italian, as a ​starter I would recommend: - "antipasto all'italiana" which is  homemade focaccia bread  with italian cold cuts,(such as "mortadella" 🤩) and different type of cheese; -"Homemade Pasta amatriciana" made with "guanciale" as the real recipe requires🔝🔝🔝🔝; -"Torta della nonna" as dessert. Just  try it  to believe!  Pretty sure  you will fall in love ! Bravi ragazzi, see you really soon ❤
