Absolutely fabulous experience today. Had to book as it’s always very busy. Seated immediately and given the Sunday menu which had loads of choice. I opted for the prawns and beef, the other half had garlic mushrooms and lamb. The service was excellent. Food was piping hot and delicious. Beautifully presented and very quick. My new favourite place for Sunday lunch! Will definitely return.

I used to visit this pub fairly regularly in times gone by. However I’ve probably not been there in the past 8 or 9 years until today. (21/07/24). Five family members visited today for Sunday lunch. The food, staff and service were fantastic. I will definitely be visiting on a more regular basis in the future. I highly recommend this pub to anyone visiting the Preston area.

Wow! What can i say if you are thinking of visiting then do!!! From. the moment you enter if it is a cold day it wil be warm as soon as you go in! The atmosphere the staff is just perfect! We went for my Brother In Laws birthday and food out of this world! but the crowning achievement has to be The jovial landlord Martin! As in Les Miserables “Ever Loves a Landlotd !” if you don’t you will you will after this visit! Well done sir for all you have done and all you will do! A pleasure and the passion about your food and product is refreshing in this world of well it is what it is! PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL it’s worth it!

Not been for a while popped in for lunch. Good beer, excellent food and service. Great location plenty of room for parking. Great on a nice day to sit out or a walk down the canal just over the road.

We arrived impromptu to quite obviously a very busy time with a complete expectancy of being told there were no tables available , however from our first ask the bar staff and restaurant staff made a great effort to fit us in , we didn't have to wait for excellence service nor for our quality food..10 out 10 in everyway ..however then ( and if you read previous reviews ) MARTIN appeared ...I feel the only way to describe him , showing my age here is a thin Bernard Mannings , loud, opinionated , in your face type of guy ...but ...it ups my rating from a 10 to a 12 ..he and his fantastic staff made our experience one of the great nights out ..please dont take all the negative things said about Martin as true its just the way he his in my opinion .. it was our first time meeting him and the crew tonight and both of us will be back in a heartbeat ...thank you all for a funny night and good scram xx

Wonderful friendly relaxed atmosphere . Absolute top quality food. The lady who served us was very pleasant,food to die for home cooked great price.

After a good walk along the canal and a spot of geocaching we visited the Hand and Dagger for lunch. The fish, chips and mushy peas was very good. Although not a very big piece of fish it was tasty with a thin crispy batter. The staff were excellent, very polite and helpful. Definitely well worth a visit and we will return in the future.

Having had the Hand & Dagger recommended,we went for lunch. I ordered a steak burger, it came with lovely crisp fries & coleslaw, delicious. My husband ordered baby ribs, he enjoyed them & said they were first class. No complaints from us & we will go again. Only complaint was it was quite cold, had to keep coats on.

Found this pub after looking on Google for a dog friendly pub , and have to say it is fantastic super super dog friendly our Rosie got a nice bowl of water and some tripe and was fussed over by the extremely friendly staff, the food is delicious I had the steak burger and a side of onion some onion rings Karen and her mum had gammon chips and egg which also came with salad portions are massive and all of our food was quite simply outstanding, Karen is ceiliac so normally limited on the desert front not here fantastic choice I had new York cheesecake cake Karen's mum had sticky toffee pudding and Karen had chocolate cake with ice cream all delicious, I can't recommend this little gem of a pub highly enough great staff great food lovely atmosphere highly recommended 10/10

A mid-week evening meal with my dad. Martin and his team couldn't have been more welcoming and the food was excellent. We had fish and chips - both were perfectly cooked, the fish great quality and the chips properly home cooked. Very much recommend.

Had Sunday lunch here, limited menu as it was a Sunday. Some of the items would cost less on any other day but in this case every main course was £17 I had the beef dinner. Over sized Yorkshire pudding which made the plate look full. The beef was tough. Veg sparse. Carrot and swede mash was the size of a desert spoon. Two roast potatoes. Everything was over salty so I couldn't eat it all. Very disappointed as the food is usually good. However, I have seen a few bad reviews lately about this place. It's really gone down hill in my opinion. Think they've got too big for their boots! I won't be going again.

I was told about this place by a friend/colleague and looked it up, the reviews were pretty good. So, we were planning a trip to Lytham and thought we’d call on the way home. The table was ready for us when we arrived and the service was speedy, pleasant and efficient. I liked that the landlord was meandering through the restaurant and bar area keeping a watchful eye on things and checking that staff were on top of things - direction from the boss is a must in my book! The food was spot on - fish & chips (chips to die for), butter chicken tikka, king prawn curry and sticky toffee pudding. Pub grub at its best - well done 👩‍🍳 It’s good to see a local place doing things well, it was packed and rightly so 👏👏👏

Just had haddock and chips and Teley real ale. Superb! And the food wasn't half bad either! I jest of course! The food and the ale were brilliant. The haddock was firm & flakey with crisp tasty batter. The chips were real (not frozen) and to die for. Cheese cake looked good and tasted mww! All in all a very pleasant experience. I would say this is the the best pub for food and ale in Lancashire. None of this ' chain pub ' frozen, microwaved rubbish here.

Popped in for dinner last night and had the always marvellous steak pie, a huge portion of melt in the mouth steak topped with the lightest of pastry and first rate chips and fresh vegetable selection. Finished with cheesecake and ice cream topped with toffee sauce. Naughty but very nice. The waiting staff were attentive and polite and Martin was as ever the perfect host. We're so lucky having this gem of a pub on our doorstep.

Was very poor and no feed back after complaining to waitress. Horrible chips and steak pie was like a stew with a pastry thrown on top and served in a dish! Waste of £48 for 3 pie n chips!!

Really poor my wife had the chicken that came with a rosti and the potato was black inside, I had the hotpot of the special board and that must have been out of the freezer as it was all dried out and not edible, needless to say we abandoned the food and had a glass of wine instead.

A great friendly pub! Although when we arrived they didnt have our reservation we were seated quickly and given menus by the friendly hostess. We all opted for the beef Sunday lunch which we all loved! One suggestion is to make people aware that they can also order off of the specials board on a Sunday and are not fixed just to the Sunday lunch menu! Will definitely return when in the area again! :)

Called in at the Hand and Dagger today with my mum. Luckily there was a table free on arrival, we hadn't booked, but usually it's advisable to book a table in advance, as this is a busy, popular pub. Martin the owner and a young lady worked the bar and the table service efficiently between them throughout our visit - and offered service with a smile. They worked well together and also had time to share a bit of banter with many customers, as well as keeping everyone happy. Our food soon arrived, was hot and tasty and enjoyed by both me and mum. Looking forward to our next visit already. Thanks to the Hand and Dagger - highly recommended.

Came here at the weekend with the family, the food was exceptional as was the guest ales. Martin the landlord made us all feel very welcome and was a very attentive host. We will be coming back here again very soon.

Just had a fantastic meal here. I had the yellow Thai curry half and half of course. Mum in law had the steak and Stilton pie which she really enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this pub. The food is top notch.

My wife and I booked a table for lunch on Monday of this week. We had studied the menu on line so we ordered as we went in. I wanted Fish & Chips, my wife wanted Steak Pie, I ordered our drinks at the same time which were delivered quickly by the bar-man. The food was delivered quite quickly and as before was excellent in terms of taste. The bill for two mains as above and 1 pint of bitter and 1 pint of lager & lime was £38.00 which struck me as a bit on the expensive side.

Had the misfortune, as it happens, to visit this venue for the first time in years. We called in for lunch on the back of the great reviews on TripAdvisor. However, the food was ok, certainly not up to the majority of reviews that we read but just ok. The downside of the whole experience was the guy behind the bar!! Martin I think his name is. I can honestly say, I’ve never seen a more obnoxious, self centred man in the catering industry!! All we could hear was this guy, barking orders to his staff, having a hissy fit when it didn’t suit and pretty much loving the sound of his own voice, to the detriment of the customers. The sooner he is not front of house the better because I for one would never step foot in there again. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.Such a shame!!

Me and my wife have been coming to the Hand and Dagger the last 5 years and even walk down the canal to get there in the summer.We love the place. Home cooked, great food at the right price with well looked after beer. The staff are friendly even when busy. My favourite place is by the open fire in the winter.We've brought friends from the USA, Italy and the UK here when people have visited and all have loved it.We are leaving to live in the USA next week and wish we could take it with us but we will come back to visit and when we do we'll be coming to eat here again.

Quick lunchtime lunch we thought, only to find we got the last table so full it was with a wonderful eclectic bunch of diners! Half of the menu is now fully Vegan with a wonderful selection of varied dishes. I’m not Vegan but could easily be with food like this. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

Family celebration with a wide range of ages and tastes. The owner provides 'something for everyone' at a reasonable price. A local for those living nearby who call in for a pint and a socialise.

We passed at lunch time and called in unplanned. The landlord was very obliging but explained they were fully booked but he went away and came back a few minutes later having found us a table for two. The pub was full, yet food was with us very quickly and to an excellent standard. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. The staff were great.
