Called in for lunch today, the food was beautiful, cannot fault the quality. The staff were excellent really friendly and efficient, drinks were good, intact the Oracle was nectar in a glass. With it being Halloween the staff were dressed up with characters from the Addams family, if anyone from Bunning and Price HQ reads this please purchase a pin stripe suit for Gomez.

Not been to the Hand and Trumpet for quite a few years visited last weekend and were really impressed. Very friendly staff both waiting on and behind the bar. Food was was good, we all had different dishes and no complaints at all. Plenty of room and everywhere clean and tidy. It was dog friendly but it looked like the dogs had to stay in the bar area

First time visit. Was very busy for a Monday evening when we arrived but quieter later. Food served was good - large portions of fish and chips and the Chicken Supreme was the hottest meal i have ever been served!! Small portion though. More potatoes and veg needed!!. Desert was ok but expensive for the portion you get!

Sunday lunch - beef meant to be served ‘pink’ which was far from pink and more to well done. Mash had a whole potato in and was informed it’s not mash it’s a purée (witch should be smoother than mash) I was offered new meat or a new dinner to which I declined due to my partner nearly being finished.

Expensive Sunday Roast below average portions, 4 meals arrived cold with small amount of mashed potatoes, 2 roast potatoes clearly reheated. Beef tough, tasteless & hard to cut. We had to ask for the cutlery after the meals were served. It was exceptionally poor service & hard to get the attention of the waiting staff. Nobody came to ask if the food was ok! I told the waitress the beef was tough & poor quality, she said she would tell the chef but we heard nothing back.

Went to visit Betley for a walk round the Mere and visit Betley Court...booked in for lunch here. Beautiful pub with plenty of space. Only one vegan choice for main and no desserts except sorbet. Gnocchi was chosen...the food was delicious and very well presented. The waitress was fantastic, so friendly and courteous and nothing was too much trouble. She went to see what the kitchen could provide for a vegan dessert, it was a poached pear with a coulis...it was really lovely but we all wanted something like a crumble or a chocolatey dessert. Fingers crossed next time we visit there will be more choice? :)

I did reach out to the pub directly to try and discreetly discuss the disappointment we experienced. Sadly despite the fact that our message has quite clearly been read no one from management bothered to reply. So here is my honest review that was sent directly to them. Side note the staff were incredibly snooty and dismissive. The irony is I run a food blog and had come to write up what was an apparently fabulous pub! Very unwelcoming environment wouldn’t recommend. I came for dinner earlier this evening and just wanted to provide a little feedback. Myself and both my friends have previously worked in hospitality and we fully appreciate it can be a challenging role. However it wasn’t particularly busy when we arrived and the waiting on staff really didn’t do a great job of looking after us. Unfortunately the service we recieved this evening was really poor. Food service was a little slow but nothing that we were drastically concerned about as the food once arrived was good. Just basic service seemed to be missing from the staff for example the lady in the pinafore when she arrived with our drinks just plonked them at the end of the table and walked off which to be honest felt a little rude and dismissive. We were then left with dessert menus for over twenty minutes and couldn’t get the attention of the waiting on staff who were all having a chat by the coffee machine. So my friend popped up to the bar and placed and order for us. Once again when we had finished our desserts we sat with dirty plates whilst the waiting on staff had a chat. We couldn’t get their attention to ask for the bill, so again my friend went over and asked for it. Another twenty minutes passes and still no bill ,we then walk to the bar and wait to pay the bill. Again the lady in the pinafore came over to us and we got a slightly abrupt “how can I help you ?” Even though I’m almost certain she’s aware that we had asked for the bill. The top and bottom of it was just that we didn’t particularly feel that we were welcome. And I have to be honest that I wouldn’t be in a rush to come back. Hopefully the feedback in some capacity is helpful. Kind Regards, Sophia

Overpriced and greasy food. Inattentive staff. Very poor choice for vegetarians. I had a fish dish which came with chorizo - this was not mentioned on the menu. As a pescatarian and muslim this was unacceptable. When mentioned to the waiting staff there was no apology, just a muttered ‘well we don’t have to advertise it if it isn’t the main ingredient’…….we were all left feeling very disappointed. The Hand and Trumpet used to be somewhere lovely to go for lunch, sadly we’ll be finding a new place to frequent.

What a shame, i used to love this pub, awful overpriced cold greasy food, i took my parents for a treat lunch out !!! I am so embarrassed and saddened. From the smell of wet dogs as we entered, i should have shooed my party back out the door because it didn’t improve, terrible staff, waiting time for drinks, no service, i had to keep going to the bar to ask for menus, more cutlery, wait of 40 mins for starters, 35 for main, the food was cold, portion sizes were beyond belief for the price they charged, the chips needed a hammer and chisel they were that hard to cut, the grease from the onion rings in the bottom of the bowl was a cm thick, salad ???? What salad a few leaves and half a red onion!!!! we gave up on dessert and went home, no one asked if everything was ok !!! Spent 10 mins trying to find someone to pay the bill so we could escape, over £120 !!!!!! Given money off voucher for a future visit !!! You are having a laugh, never again

Booked for Christmas Eve for family of six. We have been customers here for well over 10 years and have always found it to be one of our favourite places to eat. This was our first visit since the refurbishment. The pub was around 2/3 full and we waited a considerable time to be shown to our seats, despite a number of staff who were keeping the coffee machines company. Once seated we were not offered drinks and after around 20 minutes I went to the bar and ordered the drinks directly. After 30 mins someone arrived to take the order. We waited a further 25 mins for the starter to arrive and at no point were offered more drinks or a wine menu. The starters were ok and we settled in for the long, DRY wait for the main courses to arrive. When the main courses eventually arrived, we were not provided with cutlery as we had already used it for starters, I eventually had to wander over to the coffee machine where the majority of the staff were gathered and locate some cutlery. I once again asked to place a drinks order, nobody came over. We didn't attempt dessert, we had youngish children with us and I was worried we wouldn't make it back before Santa appeared! On the plus side I got to cancel the taxi as we had only had one drink during the whole experience. We would have complained but nobody asked what the food was like during our entire visit. It was also heart warming to see so many young people gathered together and chatting socially instead of being online, it's just a shame that they were supposed to be serving customers! We were not alone either, the other side of the family, a party of ten, were in before us and despite the pub being around a third full, had a similar experience. Imagine our joy when Santa had brought us a voucher for the Hand and Trumpet the next day!!

Food over priced for 50% of the food we had - kids pasta was ridiculously small for £7 compared with my others son’s kids meal of chicken goujons (he had a sandwich when we got home he was still so hungry - he’s only 6 years old). I have a steak burger and tasted like it had been in the freezer or fridge too long. We were not checked on during the meal other wise I would have raised the issues about the food with them. The plates were still in front of us 15 minutes after we had finished our food and still no one came. When I went to pay I told the guy behind the bar that the meal was not great and I had left my burger and only had the chips, let him know about the pasta and the survive - he apologised and said he would let the manager know later on! What a waste of £95 for 2 adults meals and 2 kids meals and some drinks!! I live local and will not be going back again - such a shame!!

I want to preface this that I have grown up coming to the hand and trumpet. I have spent Christmas day there as a child and enjoyed many family occasion, Sunday lunch and date night here. The atmosphere was, on this visit, fantastic, the carol singers were in and the place was deservedly packed. The manager was visible and present, making everyone feel welcome. The waiting staff were clearly run off their feet but doing an excellent job. The quality of the food was excellent as always... however...I ordered the light bite salad which was a mistake. I expected a plate of salad as it was priced similarly to their sandwiches and clearly just a less heavy option than their mains. I received six salad leaves on the corner of a plate with a smear of beetroot hummus (yum!) Four pieces of feta, two breadstick type things that were a big soggy and maybe ten edamame beans. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I mentioned to the manager my disappointment and I ordered a side of veg to pad it out. I was told it is meant to be just bigger than a starter but not a main...I think even as a starter this was optimistic - it was £10.95. the veg arrived swiftly and I was charged for the portion. I went home deflated and had some toast. I wanted to write this because there is clearly something wrong with the spec for making this particular meal. The price point missed the mark hugely and I say this with years of experience in hospitality management - in the hope the brunning and price revert back to form!

I would highly recommend it for a lovely Sunday lunch. Lots of choices on the menu, very helpful with allergies and adapting dishes and it is a lovely accessible venue. As a wheelchair user, there was plenty of space to manoeuver and no overcrowding of tables meant you could enjoy your meal and chat without other tables being too close by.

Hand & Trumpet Problems at Wrinehill (Staffs). Oh Dear oh dear, some lessons in how to RUIN this perfect country pub restaurant complete with lovely garden, pond with moorhens and tall trees surround. First: Fire all the former staff and then replace with young non experienced waiters and management staff. Second: Do give the least value and maximum price for poor quality. Third: Offer a boring menu with just four choices for deserts for example –stop any imagination for dishes the pub previously had. My critique above is because although we have only visited this eatery of some 150 covers once every four months over several years – So, I should have known better –arriving at this pub on Thursday at 3pm to find a deserted restaurant- yes NOT even one diner. This tells you things have changed. The bar was unstaffed, a couple of waitresses were chatting and we waited a short time until they noticed we were standing in the centre of the room. The young waitress offered to show us to a table but I joked that we would find it easy to find our own choice from the 45 odd empty tables! Given a menu –we chatted in front of the waitress as my wife only wanted to have small meals and said that she would have two starters with one as a main. It never occurred to her or myself that this young lady would bring both starters at the same time! My wife did not like the goat dish because whilst one of the three portions was excellent the other two were dry and bitter. I ordered from the menu “Chicken coq au vin pie, colcannon mash, wild mushroom and smoked bacon sauce “ cost was £17. We both asked the waitress to describe “Colcannon”. This we were told consisted of two types of cabbage in a mash which we concluded were both together and then fried. In fact the meal was a prebaked hard shell of a pie the pastry being so hard it could not be broken and I used my knife to poke a hole in the side from which oozed a dark gravy which also contained four tiny square shade pieces of chicken. The rest of the plate contained a huge dollop of potato mash, and one inch strips of savoy white cabbage and one small piece of kale! The mushrooms were hard to find. The manager in due course arrived- a young woman of around 25/27 years and told me in no uncertain manner that I would have to pay for the meal because I eaten some. Not quite true- the pie remained intact, the mash was not touched and the cabbage was under cooked. In the argument I reminded this bolshe lady that in hospitality (in which I have 40 years’ experience) you do not argue with a client. Especially when this manager was claiming because I had attempted to taste the meal- I should pay. What! In the end we did not pay except for the drinks-we left angry that a lovely establishment desperately needs the attention to the basics of serving good food and service, especially management. Take a hint and stay away as their previous customers have……………. End/

The restaurant is very beautiful and in a nice location, having looked at the menu online it seemed like a great choice for a date. I am vegetarian so I knew my options were limited but the Vegan shepherd's pie sounded fantastic so this didn't bother me. Upon arrival, we were greeted politely and shown to our table in under five minutes, given we were early I do find this impressive. Unfortunately, the pork and the vegan shepherd's pie weren't as good as you'd expect for the price point. Both dishes had clearly been sat on the pass for some time before being served, as the sauce for one dish had formed a skin. The pork was unseasoned and 'distinctly average', and the veg was also unseasoned. The shepherd's pie was overly sweet, the veg was - again -unseasoned and the sauce did nothing to balance out any of the flavor of the pie, which made it feel almost more desert-like than a main. While the wait staff were lovely no one came over during the meal to check how our food was or ask if we would like more drinks. If this was sitting at a lower price point perhaps I'd feel different about it, but a bill of almost £70 for two, you'd expect better.

We always enjoy a meal here and once again had a lovely early evening. We sat in “the Hut” (as it appears to be referred to), which was great on an exceptionally hot day. Our only criticism would be that all of the tables were...

Food excellent as usual, and service lacking like normal. We come for the food and convenience, not the service, as this is definitely lacking. I like the way you can collect the little vouchers from the bruningham group.

Been here twice. This time the mens toilets were unclean and 'wet' due to the fact that the urinals are awkwardly situated. The waiter/man behind the bar was lovely. Waitresses could have been more attentive though as none of them came midway through our meal...
