Popped in for lunch on Friday. Sadly mobile phone dropped out of jacket pocket. The lovely Jane found it and kept it until we phoned, once we realised it was missing. A million thanks, Jane, for your kindness. The cafe is a real find. We've eaten here twice now, once when visiting to view the architecture and on returning the next day to collect the phone. The food is wholesome, tasty and really good value. Would definitely recommend.

I went with my daughter on her lunch break, her lunch was ok, but I chose a FRESH SCONE so called, it was hard on the outside and the waitress wanted to warm it. I said no thanks. The scone was like rock and had to cut into, it was completely dry inside, so I took it back. The waitress offered me another one. Which she said was fresh from the kitchen she brought it out warm, after me saying no. When I got it back to the table it was still hard and dry throughout, I didn't even try it you could see how dry it was, at first I was just going to leave it then I thought why should I. So I took it back and got a refund. I was very disappointed as they were advertising fresh scones They were not even a day old, more like 3. They warm them up so people don't notice. I will not return. Unfortunately didn't think to take photo.

What on earth has happened to this place? We had drinks and a scone, the scone went back as it was stale and changed for ginger cake which was no better so I got my money back. The kiddies meal at £4.95 was advertised as sandwich, drink, crisps and fruit. The sandwich was unappetizing, the fruit was 6 grapes and the crisps were kettle crisps not suitable for young children. The member of staff on the till was totally disinterested. Won’t be going back.

Really enjoyed our meal at this little hidden gem yesterday. Fab breakfast and lunch menu with plenty of daily specials. From liver and onions, chunky beef pie with mash , even mini cottage pies which I enjoyed. My Mammy and aunty had a three egg omelette with side salad . The lady serving had excellent customer service qualities and didn't get annoyed when we changed our mind about one of the meals. She was very understanding which can't be said for some places these days. Great value for money and look forward to visiting again for a lovely lunch.

It is some time since I have popped in to this cafe whilst shopping. It was around 2ish and I planned to get coffee and cake but hardly anything to choose from. Spotted a ploughmans for £5 so decided on that with a pot of tea. No one at the counter so after waiting a while I called excuse me through the kitchen hatch. Somene then came to serve me. Whilst waiting for the pot of tea I touched the small piece of bread roll on the ploughmans and found it was quite stale. Another bread roll was brought to me which was quite hot. Halfway through my meal this was quite hard so I could not eat it all. Seems as though it was less than fresh and put in a microwave! Won't rush back here.

My husband and I stumbled on this cafe as we walked through the town centre, determined to find a local cafe to eat breakfast. Located above a shop, we almost missed it. Their 7 item deal including tea or coffee for less than £5 was a bonus. I especially liked the fact that the ingredients was locally sourced. I opted for a full English and enjoyed every bit. The food was fresh, hot and freshly made. I don't usually drink tea, but my husband convinced me to try it. It came in a little pot which was cute. I would definitely eat there again.

Cleverly located upstairs and loads of great deals to be found downstairs this cafe is a must visit if you are in the area. Competitively priced and a great range of options in the centre of town. Great place to start the day. Park in shopping centre and walk short distance.

Visited this cafe today for the first time. It is on the first floor of a quirky shop that sells some unusual ladies goods at competitive prices. From shoes, slippers, handbags and jewellery to underwear, dresses, coats, jumpers and trousers. I have visited this shop on numerous occasions but never tried the upstairs cafe until today.First appearance, very clean, tables set out well, a five star food hygeine rating on the wall and a notice asking you to inform the staff about any food allergies.I ordered a toasted teacake and a cherry scone with a pot of tea from the lady at the till of the self service area. I took my pot of tea, milk, cup, sugar and scone with butter to my table and my teacake was brought to me when it was ready. The pot of tea did 2 cups and was a nice strong brew. The teacakes were large and spicy and the scone was full of cherries. They also did a wide range of food both hot or cold. You could also get a turkey dinner for £6.99 and there was cottage pie, steak and mushroom pie or quiche on display in the hot cabinet. The staff were very friendly. There are two toilets.I gave only 4 stars as I haven't sampled the hot food but a gentleman was raving at how good the steak and mushroom pie is. So don't judge the cafe on my rating as it might well deserve 5 stars.I would recommend trying it if you are in the area.

Visited the cafe with my mum, ordered and paid for food. Waitress brought the food to the table, half way through my meal I noticed a short black hair in my salad. I have long brown hair, my mums is short blonde! When we returned the food, they took it back into the kitchen. We felt we should have been refunded the amount of my meal, as I couldn’t eat it after finding a hair in it. When the waitress was clearing another table, we said we thought we should be offered a refund at least half of the amount. This is the point which the customer service was poor! The waitress said to us we don’t know how this happened we don’t have that coloured hair!! To which we replied neither do we! We were made to feel like we had done this. We are not in the habit of putting hair in food part way through to get it free. Eventually she agreed to refund us half the amount (which wasn’t really what this became about) it was more the lack of customer service and how we were made to feel. We visited this cafe to support local businesses rather than coffee shop chains. We certainly won’t be visiting again!

I visited the cafe for breakfast this morning, not having been for quite a few months. You should be so proud of keeping the shop and cafe going for the amount of time it has been there. Still trying to provide a cheap and good service, successfully I might add! It must be really difficult when everything around you is falling to pieces in the town I had a four item breakfast for £2.60, including coffee, it really doesn’t get better than that does it? Well done Hancock and Wood, I hope I speak for all of the town to say I am really proud of what you have done.

We popped in today after my daughters were singing outside the shop with her school to raise money for charity. We were really cold from standing outside watching them so decided to pop in for coffee. Father in law went to purchase some hot drinks and we ended up getting them on the house after having a friendly conversation with the lady who served him. It is so nice to see that there is somewhere that still provides top class customer service. It's very rarely seen now days. Although we didn't eat, all the other food that came out looked amazing. We eat regularly at Hancock and Wood's Cafe on One and most certainly can recommend a visit either for breakfast, brunch, lunch dinner or afternoon snacks, the sandwiches are freshly prepared, the soups are lovely and if you can't see what you require the staff will try their best to provide it for you, Dawn, the manager, and all the staff are very welcoming ......the food is homemade and delicious.....if you have fussy little eaters they always try to cater for them........it can get busy around dinner time but the service is quick and very efficient....it is also an excellent department store with lots of gifts ideas all year round and a variety of clothes, shoes and lots of fantastic handbags it gives a lot of the shops in the Golden Square a run for their money and on top of all that you get personal service throughout the shop....they have just had a mini makeover and it looks lovely and fresh and modern.....the only downside is if anyone has problems with stairs apart from that we would certainly recommend this cafe to anyone at any time of the year......

The sandwiches were okay, lots of salad garnish. The soup looked like it'd been poured out of a container, into my bowl then microwaved as it was a mound. Wasn't the best soup but was ok. I visit maybe once every 3-4 months, usually with a friend from work for lunch. The menu is varied and they are willing to alter fillings in the toasted sandwiches and jacket potatoes. They have daily specials - the cheese and onion quiche was delicious. The food is always fresh and looks appetising. The staff are friendly and have the power of conversation, which sadly is a bit of a novelty nowadays! The staff are quick to clear tables and the cafe is always clean and tidy. The decor is perhaps a little dated, but I think this adds to the charm of this cafe. It's the ideal spot for a quiet lunch with friends and conversation rather than garish decor, music blaring and chairs scraping on laminate.A place to rest and be refreshed!

Everything is provided for a calm and comfortable rest. ✅ Depending on weight, there are 3 washing machines available in the circular building, on the left next to the truck shop in the men's toilet, behind another door on the left are 10 shower cubicles with clean and hot water. Snap payment is possible. The police patrols the parking lot at night, but there is also a security service. ✅

Food was nice and home cooked chips but the service was absolutely shocking, we went in on Monday lunch time and it was quiet and it took an hour for our meals to come 2x meals and a kids meal. You get a dessert with a kids meal which we asked for After we finished eating which is just 2 scoops of ice cream, another 15 mins passed and it didn’t come so we actually just walked out, if the service is like this when it’s quiet I dread to think what it’s like when busy
