Stumbled upon this little pub with a big heart whilst on a long canal walk. We arrived at opening time yet had to wait 15 minutes before it actually opened. We ordered cold drinks and crisps, choosing to sit in the beer garden at the rear of the pub to drink. There were full ashtrays on the tables and rubbish on the floor. It's a pity it hadn't been cleaned up ready for the new day. A large friendly dog made a beeline for us with his ball. We spent some time playing with the dog. I would've given 5* if the pub had opened on time and if the beer garden had been clean.

Came into the pub whilst visiting the area, came for a quick drink and ended up staying a while. They have a pool table and multiple darts boards. A great pub

Called in for a pint on a Saturday night. About four people in the place and a young lad stood behind the bar who had more interest in his phone. It's a funny thing, hospitality;- if you put nothing in, you get nothing out. The Star used to be a good laugh many years ago. It's utterly depressing these days. Something needs to change soon before it disappears like so many other pubs in Lymm.

I stopped off with family yesterday afternoon after a long bike ride. A pint of ale was very well earned! We decided to get food whilst there, heating that they’d started serving food over the weekend. Between my family and I we had the soft shell tacos, nachos, fish cakes, veggie spring rolls, loaded fries, halloumi fries (absolutely the best I’ve ever had anywhere!). Super impressed with the food, service and staff. Great pub, and if you’re on the Trans-pennine pass round Lymm, definitely stop by!

Four of us stopped off here whilst cycling on the Trans Pennine Trail. The owners took over 3 weeks ago, and only started serving food the day before we arrived. We had a very warm welcome and decided to order some lunch, in the beer garden, it is tapas style dishes and we ordered a total of 10 dishes, good sized portions and there was plenty of food to satisfy the 4 of us, and it was all well cooked and delicious. At the moment there is only one keg ale available, but 3 hand pumps in total, so not sure if they will be ordering more in, but plenty of larger and pressure pumps. There was a slight problem with the till charging different amounts than those printed on the menu , but as soon as we pointed it out they fixed it and apologised. It was a good positive response. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we cycle the trail again.

My Dad used to drink here in the Seventies when we lived in Lymm and I dropped in with an old school friend midweek. It's slightly modernised on the outside and the young chap behind the bar was friendly enough. There was rugby on TV so they do have Sky Sports. Warm again so we sat in the 'beer garden' at the back. Unfortunately it was a bit shabby. There was a dog wondering around and although he didn't bother us, there was mess and some bags which I can only presume was more of the same. It had filled up a bit when we left, not a bad little pub, but I'm not sure we'd favour it over the village pubs. There is a massive catchment area around the Star and it could do really well. I hope it does.

8 strollers and myself dropped into the start in today having come off the Transpennine Trail for a break along with brunch. We found the place staffed by a lone young man who had no one else in the pub. We somewhat swamped him as there was no chef on and he had been let with chilli ready to sell. We were offered toasties, sandwiches or chill. He made a very good effort with 7 toasted sandwiches & 2 bowls of chilli. Along with cold and hot drinks very nicely done on trays with a pot of tea or coffee with ethe cup underneath. It took a little longer than normal but went down well anyway. We would like to say Well Done that young man for coping so well alone. Thankyou

Stopped off for a quick cold beer here on a hot summers day. We've lived in Lymm for 5 years and only been to the Star 3 times since we've been here. This visit reminded us why! Only one member of staff on the bar but she was hardly rushed off her feet as the place was virtually empty and there was probably no more than half a dozen people outside. When my wife asked for a G&T the girl asked if she would like any ice in it to which my wife replied "yes please". The girl then asked if she wanted just one lump of ice or more? (Is there some sort of rationing on ice in Lymm at the moment?!) I joked to my wife that she should maybe have been more specific and asked for 4 chunks of ice perhaps.... After serving our drinks the girl said "That's £5.95" (no please) so I asked her again how much thinking that this might prompt a "please" - again "£5.95". Do they not teach young people manners any more? On our previous visits the pub has always looked half decorated. Today was no exception. There was a sign behind the bar apologising for the half completed work. Might I suggest that if customers were to receive a warmer reception on their visits they might get MORE customers and, if funds really are tight, more income to finish the decor!!! Such a shame as the pub is in a great spot for passing trade, right next to the canal and Trans-Penine trail. Must do better...

I stumbled on this place while cycling the Trans Pennine Trail. This pub is literally yards from the track and I called in to look for directions to a camp site. Nick the landlord could not have been more helpful taking time to provide detailed instructions. I ended up staying for a good meal and a very pleasant evening. The premises are pleasant and characterful with a beer garden and large barbecue area at the back. Food, tea and cake are also available making this a great stop for those on the Trans Pennine Trail.

Everything is provided for a calm and comfortable rest. ✅ Depending on weight, there are 3 washing machines available in the circular building, on the left next to the truck shop in the men's toilet, behind another door on the left are 10 shower cubicles with clean and hot water. Snap payment is possible. The police patrols the parking lot at night, but there is also a security service. ✅

On booking.com, the hotel said “breakfast included” but were told it was an error and got no compensation and instead just got very moody staff.

This was a meeting for myself and a friend from school, 40 years ago. She lives in Leeds and was on her way to Liverpool for a family event and I live in Bolton. I booked online as The Plough is close to M62. We both received a lovely welcome. The menu is excellent with plenty of choice. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. The prices are competitive. I would highly recommend.
