We had heard good reports, not via TA, so with a big birthday looming booked in for dinner. Our table was for 8:30pm so we were perhaps the last to order after some delay.

Our local friends fortunately were able to arrange our dinner together at this lovely venue. The decor is classic, the service throughout spot on and the food even better. The mini “onion soup” amuse bouche was the essence of onion soup you wanted to eat the porcelain in which it was served. The raw scallop 1st course along with fois gras terrine great. The sea bass with perfect crispy skin and wild mushrooms, sublime. The duck breast with sautéed fois gras, mmm! Their bakery produces fantastic breads as well and their cheese trolley is well composed. The Montagny and Côte Rôties selected accompanied the food perfectly. Though they rightfully are proud of their 1 Michelin star, having visited many star rated restaurants, I believe that a 2 star rating would be more appropriate. Well done chef, turning out such great food in the English countryside.

Lake Isle Restaurant

01/12/2018: Lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff, as soon as we entered the lobby there was someone to attend to us. The menu has a wide range of choice, whatever time of the day you're eating, some of the starters at lunch ( when we ate here) could be increased in size and chosen for main meals. Definitely recommend a visit to this place, you certainly wont be disappointed !
10/12/2018: We came here after searching the Michelin guide for a recommended restaurant in the area and were not disappointed. Nice ambience and decor, attentive service and lovely food. My favourite was the salmon duo starter. I would definitely recommend the restaurant and will come back when in the area again.

Olive Branch

18/03/2019: Visited today for lunch and as always warmly greeted and shown to table and given drinks menu and food menu and the daily specials. We opted for the home brewed rhubarb gin which was lovely while we browsed the lovely food menus. We decided to have the chicken livers parfait and the sea bream risotto and have the house white wine to accompany from the specials menu.We were not disappointed with any of the food or drinks and the service was superb.
15/04/2019: This place is very, very good and is certainly one I would go back to for a number of reasons. We stayed for two nights in the low season on a package deal which gave the room at half price. It is a pub with rooms but its service philosophy would put a number of 5 star hotels to shame. Requests for non feather pillows were accommodated and pointed out when we were shown the room and some minor dietary requirements had been carefully noted and suitable alternatives provided. They made it look easy but if it was that easy why do so many larger establishments fail pretty badly on these small touches.
